The document discusses effective differentiation strategies for able students. It provides 10 ways to think about differentiation, including task, resource, assessment, pace, support, extension, research, dialogue, grouping, and self-direction. Some key points discussed are using open-ended tasks, conceptual teaching, varied questioning, flexible grouping, and allowing choice and independence. The document cautions against unhelpful approaches like over-scaffolding and not providing enough challenge.

STEM Process and Project-Based LearningTodd_Stanley
The STEM design process involves asking, imagining, planning, creating, and revising. This cycle fits nicely into the model of project-based learning where students are creating an authentic product to show what they have learned. This shows you how you can incorporate the STEM design process into your projects to ensure maximize learning can take place. Part of this is creating a safe classroom environment where students are permitted to take risks. By doing this, you are giving students permission to fail, which is where the most learning takes place.

Intelligent Adaptive Learning: A Powerful Element for 21st Century Learning &...DreamBox Learning
In this webinar, Dr. Tim Hudson shares insights about leveraging technology to improve student learning. At a time when schools are exploring “flipped” and “blended” learning models, it’s important to deeply understand how to design effective learning experiences, curriculum, and differentiation approaches. The quality of students’ digital learning experiences is just as important as the quality of their educational experiences inside the classroom. Having worked for over 10 years in public education as a teacher and administrator, Dr. Hudson has worked with students, parents, and teachers to improve learning outcomes for all students. As Curriculum Director at DreamBox Learning, he provides an overview of Intelligent Adaptive Learning, a next generation technology available to schools that uses sound pedagogy to tailor learning to each student’s unique needs. This webinar focuses on how administrators and teachers can make true differentiation a reality by focusing on learning goals and strategic use of technology.

High challenge, low threshold learning High challenge High threshold Low threshold A C B D Low challenge What makes for a high access threshold? e.g. prior learning, individual barriers, teacher capacity or confidence How can we lower access thresholds or barriers? e.g. differentiation, thinking, questioning, cognitive skills What does high challenge learning look like? e.g. self-direction and choice, risk-taking, cognitive conflict, ambiguity, unintended outcomes When does low demand learning make sense? e.g. consolidating knowledge, relaxing
