This document discusses the vulnerabilities of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) to security threats and proposes the Wireless Extensible Authentication Protocol (WEAP) as a solution. WEAP enhances security through username/password-based authentication and various key management mechanisms, but it is limited by its reliance on a single base station, which may become a target for attacks. The paper suggests improvements to the WEAP protocol by considering multiple base stations to enhance network robustness and security against compromised nodes and base stations.
