Compare And Contrast The Kodaly And Orff Methods Of Music...
The Kodaly and Orff methods of music education have stood the test of time, popular for effectively
engaging and teaching children crucial skills. While both share similarities in their approach
particularly the belief that all children should receive music education the Kodaly method is better
suited for teaching students in Victorian government primary schools, most of which are not resourced
with musical instruments and specialist music teachers. The Kodaly approach focuses more on singing
as the foundation for music skills rather than learning instruments and has a very ordered, sequential
process. This makes it easier for teachers to present music concepts to students at different
developmental stages. This process also allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being taught solfege, the hand movements helped me learn how to pitch notes when singing.
Clapping and dancing allowed me to feel the pulse and rhythm of the music within my body. To
prevent ourselves from rushing and singing ahead of the beat, we would have to stomp our feet by
walking in our spot. This helped us manage our pace and sing in time.
Research shows that benefits from the Kodaly methodology include literacy and numeracy skills,
spatial temporal reasoning, intelligence and social emotional development.
In 21st century Australia, music educators who use either the Orff or Kodály method to teach Primary
School students need to consider the difference in cultural backgrounds compared to that of Hungary
or Germany over a century ago. Now teachers must alter the curriculum to choose songs that are not
only age appropriate, but multicultural and diverse. The music repertoire taught under the Kodály
method.
But there are many aspects of music education that can be improved to better integrate other 21st
century skills. The creative skills of improvisation and composition are not yet integral parts of the
music curriculum, primarily due to music teachers lack of adequate training in these skills (Fowler
1996; Madura Ward Steinman 2007).

Palm Oil Case Study
When talking about the external stakeholders of the company, it is important to highlight a case where
P G s unethical practices seem to be more prevalent and well known. That is the palm oil case of
Sumatra, Indonesia. Palm oil is a substance found in beauty and household care products of P G s. P G
bought the majority of their palm oil from a company called BW Plantation which operates in
Kalimatan, Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia. However, BW Plantation is regarded among
the top companies in the world notorious for their unethical exercises of deforestation in the business
world. Between 2010 and 2014, BW Plantation converted over 7,000 hectares of land to palm oil
plantation and destroyed over 6,000 hectares of forests. Their unethical practice of deforestation in the
Sumatra Jungle have also caused endangered species such as the Sumatran Orangutan, Rhino and
Tiger be on the verge of extinction. In 2014, an environmental friendly organization, GreenPeace,
reported that, The palm oil sector is currently the greatest single driver of deforestation in Indonesia,
accounting for about a quarter of all forest loss. The report also stated that as few as 400 Sumatran
Tigers and 7,500 Sumatran Orangutans are thought to remain in the jungle.
P G not only has unethical relations with their internal stakeholders, but also with their external
relationships. When looking at P G s relationship with their customers, suppliers and partners,

Dbq Missouri Compromise
At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when
Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to
a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated
crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights
almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the
nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri
Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could
separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln,
during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that
the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows
him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law
forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between
the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off
because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him
out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New
Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased
population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of
1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known
as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the
Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession
territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise.
After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In
1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise
(McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve
statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it
should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas.

Relationship Between Belief And Knowledge
Firstly, The Shining provides a pessimistic outlook of the dichotomous relationship between belief and
knowledge in relation to deontology. As Malory Nye details, Robert Tonkinson observes a clear divide
between religiosity and belief. What an external observer may classify as a belief may be
commonsensical to a religious follower (Nye 2008, 122). As a result, religious belief can become an
explanation in itself (Nye 2008, 117). In The Shining, Jack and Wendy represent opposing points of
view on the issue. Furthermore, Wendy does not understand Jack s beliefs, but Jack considers them a
form of knowledge; Wendy s inability to agree with him causes significant conflict between the two.
Wendy merely sees Jack going mad because of what she thinks are his beliefs about the hotel. Wendy
even outright proclaims her confusion when Jack asks her why she wants to go back to her room in the
midst of a debate. However, to Jack, the occurrences in the hotel are facts. They predicate the actions
which drive Jack to the violence he commits throughout the film, and are thus a basis for his
deontology. Thus, the religious commonsensical knowledge Jack possesses works in tandem with his
deontological views to make him a violent threat to everyone that does not share his abilities. This
provides a clear display of the way The Shining negatively portrays the effect extreme religious values
and deontology have on a human s psychology.
Furthermore, Kubrick incorporates theories about

Pennsylvania Dutch Research Paper
As language develops over the years languages some suffer the times and become a thing of the past.
There are approximately six thousand spoken languages that are facing extinction (Kravitz). I question
the importance of preserving ancient languages especially because I grew up in a family who speak
Pennsylvania Dutch. Pennsylvania Dutch, a dialect of German, is known as the wandering Dutchman
language and is spoken exclusively in northeastern Pennsylvania by mostly Amish and Lutheran
Reformists. As my Great Grandmother and Grandparents are some of the last to speak exclusively
Pennsylvania Dutch I am lucky enough to be able to hold a conversation in the dying language. My
question is should these languages including folk languages be preserved ... Show more content on

The simple answer is yes, a particular quote that grabs your attention is from an article by Guy
Gugliotta he states Language is not one thing. It has cultural and community context . If one has
experienced any sort of move or connection with one s heritage you will understand the importance of
remembering. I had the incredible opportunity to speaking with my great grandmother Ivy Mest (who
will be turning one hundred this year) she simply said that Pennsylvania Dutch was the only
connection she had left to Germany after her great grandparents passed away. Preservation of dying
languages means preserving diversity, culture and a sense of community. Imagine how devastating it
would be to lose Hispanic culture or an Asian culture. I think that it is a part of human nature to be
different and also identify with certain groups it is what sets us apart. The fact that globally we are a
melting pot is not a bad thing. It allows groups to interact with others while maintaining their own
culture and forming new. However a melting pot can leave out minorities. The Pennsylvania Dutch

When you are born with certain characteristics, leadership can sometimes come easy. Like Dr. Brian
Hemphill said in the video, age does shape natural born qualities on leadership. A person at 10 years
old that is born with leadership qualities will think differently of those qualities at 40, 50, or 60 years
old. In order to gain a following, it is however important to posses these qualities. Courage is a quality
I have difficulty with. I have had this issue since I was a little girl and still struggle with it in my day
to day activities. I find is scary to step out of my comfort zone, especially if I am taking a big risk on
something. It is hard for me to have courage because I don t like rejection or failure. I have leaded by
watching this video that leaders don t become leaders in a shell. It is necessary to acquire courage and
perfect that quality. I could start practicing courage by giving myself courageous task weekly. An
example of this would be gaining enough courage to cast myself on the ballot for different employee

Portrayal Of The Jim Crow
The term Jim Crow originated from actor Thomas Rice, who dressed in blackface while pretending to
be a beggar. While acting he often imitated many of the mannerisms ascribed to African Americans.
Rice also created a song called Jump Jim Crow from a routine he saw performed by an elderly stable
man who was owned by Mr. Crow. Rice s portrayal of African American life became very popular
among individuals in the North and the South. The term Jim Crow soon became a common phrase in
American Language. Jim Crow laws became a way for Whites to keep free African Americans in their
place . Signs were placed in many public venues in order to keep African Americans and Whites
facilities separate.

Mary doesn t recall the negative effects that Jim Crow had on African Americans. Mary believed that
African Americans made the choice to endure some of the oppressions that they faced. For example,
Mary believed that African Americans chose to sit on the back of the bus. Additionally, Mary was
raised by an African American caretaker and she was surrounded by African American tenants on her
family s plantation. She also believed that the African Americans that worked on her families
plantation were poor but happy. Lastly, Mary believed that nothing bothered African Americans.
Mary s statement reflects a form of covert racism. This quote tends to depict the hardships of African
Americans as merely inconvenient aspects of everyday life. Instead of viewing Jim Crow laws as
inhumane, many Whites neglect to comprehend the damage that these laws had on Black families.
This quote also embodies the notion of the veil that Dubois described. African Americans had to hide
their true intentions behind a smile when in the presence of Whites. As a result, some Whites believe
that African Americans were accepting of the systematic racism that they

Impulsivity And Its Effects On The Negative Consequences
Impulsivity is a multifaceted construct that refers to a predisposition toward rapid, unplanned
reactions, with diminished regard to the negative consequences (Moeller et al.,2001; Brewer
Potenza,2008). Aspects of impulsivity are suggested to be governed by the executive function of
behavioural inhibition, that regulates self control (Miyake Friedman,2012). This encompasses a
continuum from high self control to impulsivity. However, as there are multiple other constructs of
impulsivity, there lacks a consensus on a concrete definition, and a number of impulsivity measures
are subsequently used in research. The two most commonly documented processes are inhibitory
control (IC), the ability to suppress pre activated motor responses and cognitions (Miyake et al.,2000),
and impulsive choice, the tendency for distant outcomes to have less value than immediate outcomes
(Odum,2011). IC is measured using computer tasks, such as stop signal and go/no go tasks, which
require participants to inhibit a dominant motor response. Impulsive choice is assessed using delay
discounting (DD), involving choices between smaller immediate rewards, and larger rewards after a
delay (Dougherty et al.,2005). Impulsivity is frequently observed in addictive behaviours, particularly
in drug abuse (Perry Carroll,2008), and research shows that drug users are more impulsive than non
drug users (Brady et al.,1998). Alcoholics value more immediate rewards in delay discounting tasks
(Petry, 2001), as

The Classical Cultures Of China Vs. China
India vs China The classical civilizations of China and India were two of the most important and
extant civilizations with major political development. The advanced technology like the ox drawn
plows, paper, silk roads, etc shaped China s development. India was manifested by artistry, trade, and
exceptional advances in mathematics. There were three main dynasties in classical China known as
the Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynasty while India was founded by three empires: the Mauryan, Kushan,
and Gupta empires. Even though these civilizations evolved around the same time, there are crucial
differences and similarities. Religion, beliefs, hierarchical and patriarchal systems, and government
reveal the distinction between the two civilizations. Confucianism and Daoism were the major belief
systems in classical China that shaped their society. These belief systems were not exactly
religions;they were created to teach individuals how to live life. Confucianism was introduced by
Confucius, also known as Kung Fuzi, around 570 BCE. It focused on reverence for elders, self
humility, and respect for rulers and the people being ruled. During the reign of Wu Ti, he emphasized
values of Confucian philosophy and recorded the Confucian doctrine in a book called The Analects.
The problems Confucius set out to rectify, notably political disorder, were approached through an
emphasis on individual virtuous behavior (World Civilizations The Global Experience). When the Han
Dynasty was first founded, it was heavily influenced by Shi Huangdi, a brutal and strict leader of the
Qin Dynasty who ruled people under many rules and regulations. Confucius wanted to terminate that
method of ruling and knock some sense into people on how to live life without brutality. Instead of
living under hundreds of regulations/laws, Confucius developed a sense of shame that changed the
society as a whole. People began to understand morals and values which formulated peace and
prosperity. As a result, the Mandate of Heaven was passed which stated that the ruler is blessed by
Gods and once the ruler becomes too corrupt, the dynasty would collapse. Contrary to Confucianism,
legalism indicated that only rules and regulations would create order in a

The Iran Contra scandal had a big effect on the United States but it had a huge effect on Nicaragua.
Through out 1985 86, the Reagan administration was selling weapons to Iran illegally in order to
encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Reagan administration wanted to
support the Contras in Nicaragua, a rebel group fighting to overthrow the Sandinista government. The
administration decided to use the money made from selling arms to Iran, and had it sent to the Contras
without passing through the United States. (Walsh, p2.) In this paper, I am going to provide the
background of the situation. I will explain how the money from the missile sales was used to support

In 1984, the CIA sowed mines in a major port in Nicaragua causing a severe amount of damage. The
Contras took credit for this. But a few weeks later the press exposed the CIA involvement. In
response, Congress passed a second Boland Amendment, which said that neither the CIA nor the
Defense Department could fund the Contras, either directly or indirectly. From then on the
administration worked through the National Security Council, and NSC staff member Oliver North.
NSC William Clark established Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean
(housed in State Department but reported to the NSC), Oliver North attended the meetings:
responsible for all Contra affairs. Because the CIA was prohibited from operating inside the United
States, Director William Casey had senior propaganda specialist Walter Raymond transferred to the
NSC. As Raymond declared, his job was to concentrate on gluing black hats on Sandinistas and white
hats on Contras. (Kornbluh, p.5) All this time, CIA intelligence analysts were saying that the Contras
couldn t win, even with American support. Robert Owen, Oliver North s personal intermediary with
the Contras is quoted as saying they were simply profiteers. 1 Meanwhile, during 1985 86, as

The Psychology of Religion
In terms of the psychology of religion, many thinkers have commented about the origins of religious
belief. Some of these support these religious beliefs, some don t. However it is first appropriate to
establish whether or not they are actually making a valid comment on the subject of religion or not.
Georg Hegel (1770 1831) was the initial scholar to step foot into this field. He redefined God by
creating a character he often named Spirit . He attempted to make God sound theistic by giving God a
mind. In some passages, this mind was made to resemble the transcendent mind of Christianity s
theistic God, although some interpreters recognised that Spirit s mind was actually nothing but the
collective psyche of man. For this reason, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
William James pragmatism hypothesis stems from religion s efficacy. If an individual believes in and
performs religious activities, and those actions happen to work, then that practice appears the proper
choice for said individual. However, if no, there is no rationality to continue with the action. It is
possible that James was influenced but Epicurus two sovereign masters .
In terms of critiques of w. James, he does not attempt to prove or disprove that God exiles, so his work
is ambiguous and leaves his working assumptions unexplored. Also, his work focused solely on
mystical experiences and avoided the kind of public religious experiences Swinburne would later
consider. And, is pragmatism a good basis for religion? It ignores the religious teaching of the efficacy
of suffering to transform the character of the believer. For religion suffering is not the issue but sin.
James never defines what he means by God and this casts doubt on the significance of describing
mystical experiences.
Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) was a psychologist who continued this area of study and had, in the

Impact Of Technology On Business Techniques
1. Introduction The analyzation of data or the observation of information has never been an
uncommon occurrence; these analyses have grown exponentially since the rise of technology in the
21st century. The results produced through big data analysis have the potential to be paradigm
altering; the implications run much deeper than simply connecting x to y. Although its foundations
have been interwoven into society, big data has only recently become a commonly known term. Still,
very few are well versed in the subject. What exactly is big data? Danah Boyd and Kate Crawford put
it in the simplest terms when they define it as, very large data sets and the tools and procedures used to
manipulate and analyze them (Boyd and Crawford). This manipulation is vital to many large
corporations as they attempt to harness the data in order to personalize the consumer experience in
their business techniques. Since its inception, big data has warranted a moral investigation: ethicists
have been scrambling to determine how this alien method of marketing should be dealt with. There
have been the supporters of big data use, while there have also been those who disapprove, vehemently
denouncing even the idea of such a thing. In this paper, big data will be described exactly, including
the way it is projected to affect the marketing world, and how utilitarianism should be applied to the
moral dilemma in order to reach a satisfactory resolution on the topic.

Runway Description Of Runway Lighting
Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific
colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or
operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide
positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the
runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing
the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of
the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or
low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or
2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights
are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate
the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white
lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of
the centerline of the runway. Taxiway Turnoff Lights are installed on some precision runways, they
consist of flush lights which emit a steady green color, and designate where taxiways intersect the
runway ( Airport Operations, n.d.). Taxiway lighting. As with

Family Relationships In The Castle, Good Will Hunting And...
Family relationships are an important part of humanity. Many children grow up with or without a
family thus resulting the way they behave. Having a good relationship with your family is the key to a
healthy living. We need to trust one another and learn to gain respect for a happy future. This is an
important part of the process to a healthy relationship because it plays a crucial role in instilling values
and teaching responsibilities. For example if there are parents who fought a lot, the child would be
insecure towards other people. Another, point is that it helps solve misunderstandings in the family,
thus creating a stable unity.
Back to text, family relationships was the main theme in the four texts that I have read/watched:
Secrets and Lies, The Castle, Good Will Hunting and Not without my Daughter. This has influenced a
number of authors and directors to direct to create films that relate to a certain topic of family. This is
because it focuses on the family itself, which can have an impact on the audience who may be
experiencing this kind of problem in the text. This is shown in the four texts that I have studied:
Secrets and Lies, The Castle, Good Will Hunting and Not Without my Daughter. These texts were
influenced by family problems and secrets within our daily lives.
In the film, The Castle we are able to see what a good family relationship is. Daryl Kerrigan is trying

In 2009, we lost one of the greatest entertainers in music history, however his music still lives on,
inspiring and touching people s heart. I have always been a fan of Michael Jackson, and the reason
why I picked this song is because it presents a strong message. Not only did
Jackson make a powerful statement with his lyrics, he also made one with his choice of rhythm and

The second verse talks about making the right choice to just go away instead of shedding blood, and
trying to be a tough guy. The third verse simply describes that even if one chooses to walk away, it is
better to be alive than to risk it. The fourth verse in my opinion talks about the consequences of
fighting and that if one chooses to be violent, chances are that they will get hurt.
As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although No One wants To Be
Defeated. It is better to go because in the end It Doesn t Matter Who is Wrong Or Right.
Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead of
proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts).
As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize the
meaning of the song. I heard a police siren which could symbolize that if you get involved with gangs
and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing sounds. The
breathing sounds could represent the sound of someone running away and catching a breath. I could
detect sounds as if someone was getting punched and sounds of blades which could represent a fight.
While searching for different meanings of the song I came across an interesting

River Padma Personal Statement Of Purpose
River Padma, the biggest and most turbulent river of Bangladesh, is around twenty kilometers from

these accidents which take place for several times in each year. Crossing river Padma is must for the
people of South Bangladesh as it is the only way to reach to the capital city, Dhaka. In my childhood I

Youth crime in Canada is an interesting and diverse topic regarding criminology and sociology. Youth
crime comes in many forms and includes various reasoning behind the crimes committed. The Young
Offenders Act is the previous act set forth regarding laws about youth crime in Canada. The Youth
Criminal Justice Act is the current act enforcing laws regarding youth crime in Canada today. The
articles I have chosen all relate back to the Young Offenders Act and the Criminal Justice Act
regarding different areas of youth crime in Canada. The first article researched looks at and evaluates
the Young Offenders Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the much needed provisions made to
ensure proper and fair dealings with youth crime. The next article ... Show more content on

The article also researches which act the judges tend to be fairer in giving probation sentences. These
articles all fall into the context of both criminal justice youth acts in Canada but research different
areas of youth crime in Canada. The Young Offenders Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act are both
very important when looking at youth crime in Canada today. The Youth Criminal Justice Act has
taken over the Young Offenders Act for various reasons. The Young Offenders Act posed many issues
regarding youth crime in Canada. According to Bala, Carrington Roberts (2009), The Young
Offenders Act, which came into force in 1984, was a highly controversial statute. While conservative
politicians criticized the law for being soft on youth crime, there were also concerns that, under the
YOA, use of courts and custody had risen, and by the early years of the millennium, Canada had one
of the lowest rates of youth diversion and one of the highest rates of youth custody in the world (p.
132) Due to these issues and many others, the Youth Criminal Justice Act was formed, in hopes of

Essay On Dna Testing
DNA is the future for choosing the right bull for your needs, but is it economically reasonable for the
regular cattleman to afford this new technology and still make a profit. The information outlined in
this study should impact farmers decisions of whether or not they should consider getting their bulls
DNA tested for greater genetic gains that will improve their herd along with increasing their profit
margins. The study was developed to estimate the economic value for using DNA information from
hypothetical DNA tests associated with known proportions of selection trait genetic variation to
increase the accuracy of beef bull selection in a seedstock breeding program CITE THIS SOURCE.

A seedstock herd structure and breeding scheme was set up for this particular study. A seedstock herd
was trying to figure out the costs of finding a better way to choose their bulls. Each young untested
bull was valued based upon its own performance records, their sire, dam, and 20 parental half siblings.
Each bull was used for three years and mated 30 females and produced on average 32.5 yearling bull
calves over their lifetime Cite. Eight bulls were kept for stud sires while the other 125 were sold for
commercial bull use. These bulls were used as the genetically superior bulls for the rest of this study.
The values that were derived for this study from selecting a genetically superior bull were calculated
through mathematical equations that accounted for variation in time it took for the gene to pass on to
the offspring and eventually the entire herd. The study used the gene flow method of Hill (1973),
which helped them track the gene flow that had overlapping generations. They used this information
to calculate the cumulative discounted expressions derived from both a superior yearling commercial
sire and a genetically superior yearling stud sire Cite. They used this information to help describe how
the genes were passed down throughout the breeding and production population based on their
biological parameters and the 20 year planning horizon CITE. With the access to this information the
study then went on to assessing the value associated with choosing a

Camille Cosby: Standing By Her Husband, Bill Cosby According to the New York Post, Camille
Cosby is standing by her man, Bill Cosby. Although, she knows about his philandering and cheating
ways, she believes that the women accusing Cosby of drugging them in order to have sex, were
willing participants. Even after hearing parts of the deposition that came out with him admitting to
purchasing Quaaludes to slip to the women in order to bed them, she is still standing firm in her

Kello V. City Of New London Summary
Marco Hinojosa
PAD 3013.901
Professor Sorensen
Little Pink House Assignment Eminent domain is the right of a government to seize and control
private property in return for compensation if it s specific purpose is for the greater good of the
community as a whole. The Little Pink House is a book that gives an example of a major court case
related to eminent domain from a journalistic account. The case of Kelo v. City of New London is the
most famous case of condemnation in the history of the nation. The book tells the inspirational true
story of Susette Kelo and her battle with the city of New London. Susette Kelo is woman who had

The project was unable to obtain investments and its plans were abandoned in the end. The promises
of new jobs and an increased tax revenue were all forsaken. Today, the property that was once a

was meant to serve. American s view of eminent domain, because of the Susette Kelo case, have
changed dramatically since seeing the results from the economic project in New London. More
Americans believe that eminent domain should only be exercised in the case of benefiting the public

The Truth about Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen
that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King
Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of
ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French
Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she
became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her
infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the
famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly
participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the
Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and
the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became
queen. The French Revolution was a time of political and social disruption, and the change of their
absolute monarchy. Marie Antoinette was part of the monarchy, so she was disliked, but she was not
the cause of The French Revolution. Her husband, King Louis XVI, made known

Essay about How to Solve the Foreclosure Crisis
Foreclosed homes have become a menacing commonality in nearly every neighborhood in the United
States. These foreclosed properties problems range from unkempt yards, broken doors and windows,
as well as becoming dangerous havens for drugs and violent acts of vandalism. In addition, empty
foreclosed homes drive down property values of surrounding homes and neighborhoods.
Many of these homes became foreclosures because the buyers could not afford the payments. This
inadvertently ruins not only their credit scores, but also ruins the chance of owning a home in the
future. This results in crushing families hopes of achieving the American dream of home ownership.
The flip side of this crisis is the affect that these foreclosures are ... Show more content on

This essay will describe these components in detail to show how they can be the key to solving the
foreclosure crisis in America.
Component One
The first component of the solution is addressing the banks toxic assets that were created by the
mortgage banks lending on overvalued property and lending to consumers that could not afford the
payments. Underwriters should have prevented more of this; however that was not the case. In the
future, banks and lenders will need to be more effective in the approval process that qualifies home
buyers. The banks will have the option to participate in this program or not. They will also have the
chance to pick and choose which properties will be included, if any.
As a result, the banks will need to take a marginal loss initially so they can recover most of the
invested capital. All toxic assets will need to be reappraised at the bank s expense so that the true
value of the property can be reestablished. Once they have been reappraised these properties are
unloaded by the banks for seventy percent of their current value which will recoup an acceptable
amount of capital return to the banks. Taking advantage of this program would allow the banks to
recapitalize themselves rather than receiving Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) loans that need
to be repaid. (H.R. 1424, 2008) This also frees them of the toxic assets and improves their overall
profitability and bottom line. Once these assets

Guided Meditation Research
Commonly, most people associate mediation with a super relaxed state, however meditation as
discipline requires great practice skill. This intensity could cause a physiological response opposite to
what most expect from meditation (Lumma, Kok, Singer). However, some studies showed that
meditation combined with breathing techniques, similar to those we used during our guided
meditation, decreased the heart rate, systolic, and diastolic pressure of patients with hypertension
(Angermann et al). If a person participates in guided meditation, then they will temporarily experience
lower heart rate and blood pressure because the subject consciously focuses on their body instead of

Methods:
While we measured our data, we needed to continue to measure until the participant s data returned to
close to level they were at for the basal readings. This ensured that we had all of the data necessary to
draw a conclusion about how guided meditation could affect blood pressure and heart rate. A
sphygmomanometer, phone with an app for meditation, and a stopwatch were used during the
experiment. The control group was expected to just talk during the five minute exposure and the

My Favorite Places On Earth Essay
One of my most favorite places on earth is Albany, Wyoming. In my mind it is one of the beautiful
places to be on earth. Albany is truly a beautiful place to be. It is beautiful seeing all the snow covered
mountains during the winter. If you ever get a chance to travel there I would highly recommend it. The
way the land changes so fast is truly a sight to see.
The first time I experienced Albany was in the winter of 2015. It was my first time out west during the
winter. It was very weird on our way out there. There wasn t any snow the entire way there but once
we got there I was truly amazed how much snow they had on the mountains and how one moment I
was seeing nothing but flat fields and the next I was heading up the mountain.
The drive to Wyoming was the worst part of the trip for me. Nebraska is the worst part of the trip.
There is nothing to see in Nebraska except flat endless fields. Every once and awhile you ll see some
wildlife or a tumbleweed roll across the road. Once I got to Wyoming the drive seemed to fly by
because there was a lot more to scenery to look at.
Once I got up the mountains there was hardly any wildlife because of how deep the snow is during the
winter. Even without the wildlife around the trees and landscape draws you in. The way the landscape
changes so fast is truly amazing. One moment I would be in dense forest and the next i would be on
top of a mountain without any trees around. The beauty of the way the landscape changes just draws
me in. I

How Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) And Associated Dementias
Contemporary Issues Formative Essay Introduction For the purpose of this essay I will be comparing
how Alzheimer s Disease (AD) and associated dementias are recognised in the United Kingdom (UK)
and responded to, when compared to Italy. I have chosen this subject as there are indications from
both countries that dementia sufferers will increase dramatically over the next twenty years. It is
estimated that there are 800,000 people in the UK with AD and dementia, this number is expected to
double by 2040. At present the cost to the economy is £23 billion, by 2040 the costs are likely to
treble(Gov.UK). REFERENCE NEEDED. In Italy there are approximately 1 million people living
with dementia. (Alzheimer s, 2016) It has been suggested by 2020, it is estimated that 584,000 new
cases of dementia will occur in the country (Choices, 2016). This this will inevitably put a high
demand not only on both National Health Services (NHS) in the UK and in Italy, but also on support
services within the care sector, such as carers, voluntary organisations and also families of AD and
dementia sufferers. This will also increase the workload on social workers as more assessment of need
will have to be carried out to maintain the levels of support needed to sustain an expected quality of
life. I will be addressing legislation and policy s adopted by both countries historically and modern
day. I will also be discussing diagnosis of AD and dementia, funding, ethical and cultural issues,

Homosociality is the unacknowledged entity that exists between the intestacies of solid masculinity
(Dellamora Masculine Desire, 2). Jean Lipman Blumen defines homosociality as:
Enjoyment and/or preference for the company of the same sex...it does not necessarily involve...an
explicitly erotic sexual interaction between members of the same sex (16). Lipman Blumen s
definition introduces this explicitly erotic sexual interaction to signify homoeroticism. Homoeroticism
is erotic emotions centred on a person of the same sex (Flood, 307). Flood omits any reference to
homosexuality in his term (unlike Lipman Blumen s definition) but implies that homoeroticism may

Innovation In Child Care Essay
This research expects to identify a process of innovation suitable for individuals in a community
context. In this process, this study will examine various psychological and social issues having
profound influences on people to be innovative. However, an issue related to the understanding of the
meaning of innovation won t be overlooked, which remains vague and ambiguous. The latter will help
to gain philosophical insights of the concept, and will contribute to developing a generalized definition
of innovation. The former will enhance individuals dexterity in the process of achieving innovation.
The concept of innovation originates in Greece during the fifth century BC with a pejorative meaning

However, the process of innovation is closely linked to the understanding of innovation whether it is
an act of bringing changes or consequence of an action which represents changes. It is easily

the concept for proposing a generalized process of innovation.
The contextual focus of this study will contribute to bringing innovation in child care services by
assisting child care workers to be innovative, which will reduce the gap between the services offered
by child care workers and the services expected by other stakeholder groups.

three to five. From my placement I gained many skills such as patience, a good sense of humour and
enthusiasm. I feel that patience is necessary as working with young children can be challenging, and
also because all children have their own learning pace. For example, the children aged four and five
had written their name starting from right to left. On the other hand the children below this age group
included the correct letters that appeared in the name, but all in the incorrect order. Teachers need to
be aware of each child s individual needs and work to help them reach full potential within their
capabilities. Patience is also necessary as children are not always going to be familiar with what is
being taught to them, I believe that teachers always need to be willing to see things from other people
s perspectives too.
The difficulties I experienced with learning as a young child have given me empathy for others when
they go through similar issues. A teacher that only recently understood something remembers

Disability Issues In I Am Sam
I am Sam is a great movie to watch in diversity class. It focuses on a diversity issue that is overlooked
in society today. The main issue of the movie was that the main character Sam has an Intellectual
disability and he is struggling to take care of his daughter. Intellectual disability is a disability that
interferes with a person s cognitive abilities and the functions they use in everyday life. This includes
everything from their social skills to the way they behave (Chadwick, Wesson, Fullwood, 2013).
Society tends to forget that everyone has equal rights in America. In the movie they are basically
trying to take Sam s rights away as a parent because of his disability. They believe that he is not able
to properly care for his child being that his mental capacity is that of a seven year old. Instead of the
justice system trying to provide him with the resources he needs, they rather just take the child out of
her home. This is unfair treatment and a form of discrimination in my opinion. Another diversity issue
in this movie is his socioeconomic status. Sam is classified as having low socioeconomic status. Due
to his disability he can only work at fast food types of jobs which don t pay well. With him having a
child to take care of on his own it limits his finances even more. There are not a lot of places that hire
people with disabilities. If they do find a job the pay is low making it extremely difficult for them to
live on their own, and take care of their family.

Book Report #2
How the Other Half Lives
Introduction
The book How the Other Half lives, is one of those books that definitely affects you as soon as you
read it. Jacob Riis the author of the book, wrote it exactly for the purpose, to affect people and get
them to realize how bad the conditions were back then in New York City. He goes into full depth, of
what the living conditions were like, who lived in them, and how they were affected by them. Mostly
how each ethnic group lived in the tenements, and what the city did to improve them.
Genesis of the Tenement In thirty five years the city of New York went from less then a hundred
thousand people to at least harbor a half a million souls, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The city was packed out to 290,000 people in the square mile.
The Mixed Crowd When once I asked the agent of a notorious Forth Ward alley how many people
might be living in it I was told: One hundred and forty families, one hundred Irish, thirty eight Italians,
and two the spoke the German tongue(How the Other Half Lives,p.3). There was not one native born
american in the court, or in any of the tenements. The irish were the true cosmopolitan immigrant. All
pervadin, he shares his lodging with perfect impartiality with the Italian, the Greek, and the
Dutchman, yielding on to sheer for of numbers, and objects equally to them all. The city maps were
colorized for each nationality, if you were to look at a map at that time, Irish were mostly on the West
Side and the Germans were mostly on the East Side. Mixed in where Italian, who pushed there way
up, where Little Italy came to be. The less aggressive, the Russian and Polish Jew, are filling the
tenements of the old Seventh Ward to the river front, while disputing with the Italians, over every foot
of avaibility on Mulberry St. The italian and the poor Jew rise only by compulsion. The Chinaman
does not rise at all; here, as at home, he simply remains stationary. The Irishman s genius runs to
public affairs rather than domestic life; wherever he is mustered in force the saloon is the gorgeous
centre of political activity(How the Other half lives,p.25). The germans

Explain Why It Is Important To Have A Maximum Attendance...
The purpose of a meeting is to inform team members of ideas as well as problems that may arise.
During meetings, attendees will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and views whilst listening
to others points of views. The attendees of a meeting should be people who have got a purpose and
opinion towards the agenda of the meeting. Also, a meeting should include a minute taker to record
important notes and also a chair. A chair s main responsibility is to lead the meeting by beginning the
conversation of all the topics and also to open and close the meeting.
Q Explain why it is important to have a minimum number of attendees for a meeting. (1.2)

Within this meeting, there will be representatives from Quantity Surveyors, Engineers to Architects. If
there are no engineers at this meeting, then there should be serious doubt to whether the meeting goes
ahead. The important to having the right amount of attendees is so no one can miss out on anything
important and also so no decisions are made without their opinion.
Q Explain ways to achieve maximum attendance at meetings. (1.3)
A One way of achieving maximum attendance at a meeting is by sending out an invitation email
which gives the recipient the chance to accept, decline or hold the invitation to the meeting. This way,
it automatically updates their calendar if they accept the invitation and allows you to know who is
attending. Another way to achieve maximum attendance is arranging a time and location that
accommodates everyone that you want to be at the meeting. Choosing a time and place when someone
is busy will ultimately mean that one person already can t make it.
Q Explain the access, health, safety and security requirements relating to meetings.

Iran Between Iran And Pakistan Essay
Iran s nuclear program is very debatable and has been even more debatable ever since they started
enriching their uranium that can be possibly become a nuclear weapon. This gives the west and Israel
a reason to be more worried about the issue. However in all of this there is an admission lately
because Iran and the P 5 +1 have reach a nuclear deal in order to loosen the harsh sanctions they have
received resulting in billions of dollars back to the Iranians in return for shutting down the program for
half a year. However if this politeness and skill with people fails then it is time for crime prevention
method to go into play here and possible military action. There are other nations that have nuclear
weapons like India and Pakistan without a permission slip. So all in all it seems to be unfair that Iran
is being discriminated in all of this but there are clear differences between Iran and Pakistan or even
India. Now some political scientists believe that Iran independent power is being violated if they have
to sign a permission slip to make legal their nuclear program according the IAEA. This would have
been a good argument if Iran didn t accept the deal. But Iran did and they agree to the UN that when
the parts deal demands the Iranians to reduce their purity on their uranium to a lower percentage
where it is suited for nuclear power only to prevent a nuclear armed Iran. So in terms of a nuclear
program the Iranians already accepted to do this directly or indirectly even

Resistance Of Movement Of The Cell
If a cell is to perform its functions it must maintain a steady state in the midst of an ever changing
environment. This steadiness is maintained by the regulation of movement of materials into and out of
the cell. To achieve this control, cells are bounded by a delicate membrane that differentiates between
different substances, slowing down the movement of some while allowing others to pass through. The
membrane is said to be differentially permeable since not all substances penetrate equally well.
Selective permeability is a characteristic of healthy, intact cells. When a cell is seriously damaged, the
membrane becomes permeable to virtually to everything and substances can move freely in and out of
the cell. (Marieb 2013) Movement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Marieb 2013) Osmosis, is a special kind of diffusion, is defined as the diffusion of water through a
semi permeable membrane from a higher concentration to that of a lower concentration. The
concentration of water is inversely related to the concentration of solutes. If the water can diffuse
across the membrane, both water and solutes will move down their concentration gradients through
the membrane. (Marieb 2012) There are three terms used to describe the concentrations of solute
particles of different solutions: Hypotonic When compared to another solution of different
concentration, the solution contains the lower concentration of solute particles. Water moves across a
semi permeable membrane out of a hypotonic solution. Hypertonic When compared to another
solution of different concentration, the solution that contains the higher concentration of solute
particles. Water moves across a semi permeable membrane into a hypertonic solution. Isotonic Having
the same concentration of solute particles as another solution. There is no net flow of water across the
membrane. In animal cells, the movement of water is affected by the relative solute concentration of
the plasma membrane. As water moves out of the cell, the cell shrink and if water moves into the cell,
the cell swells and may even burst.

Mont Blanc Is An Example Of American Romanticism
For many centuries people have assumed that Romantic poets and authors are adverse or merely
incompatible with the natural sciences. This normative view has persisted though the ages and has
transformed the way readers interpret and react to Romantic era poetry. Not only has this assumption
disillusioned readers, but also it has led many to cripple their perspective and limit their judgment of
such poets. A prominent example of the adverse of this assumption is Percy Bysshe Shelley. Shelley,
within his ode Mont Blanc: Lines Written in the Vale of Chamouni, proves that romantic era poets are
capable of blending romantic ideas with natural sciences enlightenment era thought. In fact, Desmond
George King Hele, a prominent British physicist and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mostly attributed to the new geological sciences that were just beginning to show the truth of
the evolution of Earth. Instead of the Earth only being a few thousand years old, as expressed in the
Bible, now it was widely speculated that it was hundreds of millions of years old. For Shelley, this
new information rejects and challenges the classic human ideal of being the supreme beings of the
universe (Wainwright). It is very clear that within Mont Blanc, he perceives the mountain to be far
superior to humankind in every way. This change of thinking, from mechanistic to organic, is said to
highlight Shelley s belief that physical otherness is profoundly inaccessible to, and different from,
consciousness , as noted by poet J.A.

The Georgia Straight, By Adrian Mack And Miranda Nelson s...
The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience,
while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a
robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and
Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the
riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack
the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to
appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due
to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece,
the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor.
Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver
(Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with
the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is
dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more
expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the
very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and
politicians are at fault

the people will be glad they can t have their insurance canceled when they get sick, that their children

enacting the Medicare Drug Program for seniors in 2003, they were not interested in improving the
plight of people without health insurance and completely ignored the steadily mounting numbers of
people without health insurance, at least 48,000,000. They said they preferred

Short Story Short Essay
The sun beamed through the open window, embracing me in the warmth and comfort. My plane had
just arrived in Paris, France. It was a peaceful walk to baggage claim when some random girl
interrupted my daydream. Dixie, Dixie Lloyd is that you? some dark haired girl said to me. I looked at
her confused as she laughed. Ah, yes I did remember her. My, my she was the most annoying girl I
have ever met.
She kept trying to talk to me asking me all these questions and following me wherever I went. Luckily
I lost her in a crowd of people just as I was about to leave the airport. Ok, so here s a little back story
for you, so long story short...
It was a year ago I visited here and met Clement Perez. I was new and had nowhere to live, she
offered a place and I took it. Long story short she ended up going to a mental hospital for being
exceedingly crazy and trying to hurt many people including myself.
I stepped outside and let the sun soak up inside me. Looking around I saw my friend, Andre Lefevre,
waiting for me leaned up beside his car
How I know him is to long of a story to tell so let s just say I met him the day I almost died.
We said our hellos as he brought me to my hotel which I would staying at for the next two weeks. The
bellhop brought my bags to my room and Andre bid me a farewell. It was around nine o clock pm
when I got settled. Even though it was only around three o clock in the afternoon I didn t want to be

  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Kodaly And Orff Methods Of Music... The Kodaly and Orff methods of music education have stood the test of time, popular for effectively engaging and teaching children crucial skills. While both share similarities in their approach particularly the belief that all children should receive music education the Kodaly method is better suited for teaching students in Victorian government primary schools, most of which are not resourced with musical instruments and specialist music teachers. The Kodaly approach focuses more on singing as the foundation for music skills rather than learning instruments and has a very ordered, sequential process. This makes it easier for teachers to present music concepts to students at different developmental stages. This process also allows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being taught solfege, the hand movements helped me learn how to pitch notes when singing. Clapping and dancing allowed me to feel the pulse and rhythm of the music within my body. To prevent ourselves from rushing and singing ahead of the beat, we would have to stomp our feet by walking in our spot. This helped us manage our pace and sing in time. Research shows that benefits from the Kodaly methodology include literacy and numeracy skills, spatial temporal reasoning, intelligence and social emotional development. In 21st century Australia, music educators who use either the Orff or Kodály method to teach Primary School students need to consider the difference in cultural backgrounds compared to that of Hungary or Germany over a century ago. Now teachers must alter the curriculum to choose songs that are not only age appropriate, but multicultural and diverse. The music repertoire taught under the Kodály method. But there are many aspects of music education that can be improved to better integrate other 21st century skills. The creative skills of improvisation and composition are not yet integral parts of the music curriculum, primarily due to music teachers lack of adequate training in these skills (Fowler 1996; Madura Ward Steinman 2007). ... • 3. Palm Oil Case Study When talking about the external stakeholders of the company, it is important to highlight a case where P G s unethical practices seem to be more prevalent and well known. That is the palm oil case of Sumatra, Indonesia. Palm oil is a substance found in beauty and household care products of P G s. P G bought the majority of their palm oil from a company called BW Plantation which operates in Kalimatan, Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia. However, BW Plantation is regarded among the top companies in the world notorious for their unethical exercises of deforestation in the business world. Between 2010 and 2014, BW Plantation converted over 7,000 hectares of land to palm oil plantation and destroyed over 6,000 hectares of forests. Their unethical practice of deforestation in the Sumatra Jungle have also caused endangered species such as the Sumatran Orangutan, Rhino and Tiger be on the verge of extinction. In 2014, an environmental friendly organization, GreenPeace, reported that, The palm oil sector is currently the greatest single driver of deforestation in Indonesia, accounting for about a quarter of all forest loss. The report also stated that as few as 400 Sumatran Tigers and 7,500 Sumatran Orangutans are thought to remain in the jungle. • 4. Dbq Missouri Compromise At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln, during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of 1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise. After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In 1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise (McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas. Northern anti slavery settlers ... • 5. Relationship Between Belief And Knowledge Firstly, The Shining provides a pessimistic outlook of the dichotomous relationship between belief and knowledge in relation to deontology. As Malory Nye details, Robert Tonkinson observes a clear divide between religiosity and belief. What an external observer may classify as a belief may be commonsensical to a religious follower (Nye 2008, 122). As a result, religious belief can become an explanation in itself (Nye 2008, 117). In The Shining, Jack and Wendy represent opposing points of view on the issue. Furthermore, Wendy does not understand Jack s beliefs, but Jack considers them a form of knowledge; Wendy s inability to agree with him causes significant conflict between the two. Wendy merely sees Jack going mad because of what she thinks are his beliefs about the hotel. Wendy even outright proclaims her confusion when Jack asks her why she wants to go back to her room in the midst of a debate. However, to Jack, the occurrences in the hotel are facts. They predicate the actions which drive Jack to the violence he commits throughout the film, and are thus a basis for his deontology. Thus, the religious commonsensical knowledge Jack possesses works in tandem with his deontological views to make him a violent threat to everyone that does not share his abilities. This provides a clear display of the way The Shining negatively portrays the effect extreme religious values and deontology have on a human s psychology. Furthermore, Kubrick incorporates theories about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are approximately six thousand spoken languages that are facing extinction (Kravitz). I question the importance of preserving ancient languages especially because I grew up in a family who speak Pennsylvania Dutch. Pennsylvania Dutch, a dialect of German, is known as the wandering Dutchman language and is spoken exclusively in northeastern Pennsylvania by mostly Amish and Lutheran Reformists. As my Great Grandmother and Grandparents are some of the last to speak exclusively Pennsylvania Dutch I am lucky enough to be able to hold a conversation in the dying language. The simple answer is yes, a particular quote that grabs your attention is from an article by Guy Gugliotta he states Language is not one thing. It has cultural and community context . I had the incredible opportunity to speaking with my great grandmother Ivy Mest (who will be turning one hundred this year) she simply said that Pennsylvania Dutch was the only connection she had left to Germany after her great grandparents passed away. Preservation of dying languages means preserving diversity, culture and a sense of community. Imagine how devastating it would be to lose Hispanic culture or an Asian culture. I think that it is a part of human nature to be different and also identify with certain groups it is what sets us apart. The fact that globally we are a melting pot is not a bad thing. Rice s portrayal of African American life became very popular among individuals in the North and the South. The term Jim Crow soon became a common phrase in American Language. She also believed that the African Americans that worked on her families plantation were poor but happy. Lastly, Mary believed that nothing bothered African Americans. Mary s statement reflects a form of covert racism. This quote tends to depict the hardships of African Americans as merely inconvenient aspects of everyday life. Instead of viewing Jim Crow laws as inhumane, many Whites neglect to comprehend the damage that these laws had on Black families. • 9. Impulsivity And Its Effects On The Negative Consequences Impulsivity is a multifaceted construct that refers to a predisposition toward rapid, unplanned reactions, with diminished regard to the negative consequences (Moeller et al.,2001; Brewer Potenza,2008). Aspects of impulsivity are suggested to be governed by the executive function of behavioural inhibition, that regulates self control (Miyake Friedman,2012). This encompasses a continuum from high self control to impulsivity. However, as there are multiple other constructs of impulsivity, there lacks a consensus on a concrete definition, and a number of impulsivity measures are subsequently used in research. The two most commonly documented processes are inhibitory control (IC), the ability to suppress pre activated motor responses and cognitions (Miyake et al.,2000), and impulsive choice, the tendency for distant outcomes to have less value than immediate outcomes (Odum,2011). IC is measured using computer tasks, such as stop signal and go/no go tasks, which require participants to inhibit a dominant motor response. Impulsive choice is assessed using delay discounting (DD), involving choices between smaller immediate rewards, and larger rewards after a delay (Dougherty et al.,2005). Impulsivity is frequently observed in addictive behaviours, particularly in drug abuse (Perry Carroll,2008), and research shows that drug users are more impulsive than non drug users (Brady et al.,1998). Alcoholics value more immediate rewards in delay discounting tasks (Petry, 2001), as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Classical Cultures Of China Vs. China India vs China The classical civilizations of China and India were two of the most important and extant civilizations with major political development. The advanced technology like the ox drawn plows, paper, silk roads, etc shaped China s development. India was manifested by artistry, trade, and exceptional advances in mathematics. There were three main dynasties in classical China known as the Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynasty while India was founded by three empires: the Mauryan, Kushan, and Gupta empires. Even though these civilizations evolved around the same time, there are crucial differences and similarities. Religion, beliefs, hierarchical and patriarchal systems, and government reveal the distinction between the two civilizations. Confucianism and Daoism were the major belief systems in classical China that shaped their society. These belief systems were not exactly religions;they were created to teach individuals how to live life. Confucianism was introduced by Confucius, also known as Kung Fuzi, around 570 BCE. It focused on reverence for elders, self humility, and respect for rulers and the people being ruled. During the reign of Wu Ti, he emphasized values of Confucian philosophy and recorded the Confucian doctrine in a book called The Analects. The problems Confucius set out to rectify, notably political disorder, were approached through an emphasis on individual virtuous behavior (World Civilizations The Global Experience). When the Han Dynasty was first founded, it was heavily influenced by Shi Huangdi, a brutal and strict leader of the Qin Dynasty who ruled people under many rules and regulations. Confucius wanted to terminate that method of ruling and knock some sense into people on how to live life without brutality. Instead of living under hundreds of regulations/laws, Confucius developed a sense of shame that changed the society as a whole. People began to understand morals and values which formulated peace and prosperity. As a result, the Mandate of Heaven was passed which stated that the ruler is blessed by Gods and once the ruler becomes too corrupt, the dynasty would collapse. Contrary to Confucianism, legalism indicated that only rules and regulations would create order in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Meanwhile, the Reagan administration wanted to support the Contras in Nicaragua, a rebel group fighting to overthrow the Sandinista government. From then on the administration worked through the National Security Council, and NSC staff member Oliver North. NSC William Clark established Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean (housed in State Department but reported to the NSC), Oliver North attended the meetings: responsible for all Contra affairs. Because the CIA was prohibited from operating inside the United States, Director William Casey had senior propaganda specialist Walter Raymond transferred to the NSC. Some of these support these religious beliefs, some don t. However it is first appropriate to establish whether or not they are actually making a valid comment on the subject of religion or not. Georg Hegel (1770 1831) was the initial scholar to step foot into this field. He redefined God by creating a character he often named Spirit . He attempted to make God sound theistic by giving God a mind. In some passages, this mind was made to resemble the transcendent mind of Christianity s theistic God, although some interpreters recognised that Spirit s mind was actually nothing but the collective psyche of man. • 13. Impact Of Technology On Business Techniques 1. Introduction The analyzation of data or the observation of information has never been an uncommon occurrence; these analyses have grown exponentially since the rise of technology in the 21st century. The results produced through big data analysis have the potential to be paradigm altering; the implications run much deeper than simply connecting x to y. Although its foundations have been interwoven into society, big data has only recently become a commonly known term. Still, very few are well versed in the subject. What exactly is big data? Danah Boyd and Kate Crawford put it in the simplest terms when they define it as, very large data sets and the tools and procedures used to manipulate and analyze them (Boyd and Crawford). This manipulation is vital to many large corporations as they attempt to harness the data in order to personalize the consumer experience in their business techniques. Since its inception, big data has warranted a moral investigation: ethicists have been scrambling to determine how this alien method of marketing should be dealt with. There have been the supporters of big data use, while there have also been those who disapprove, vehemently denouncing even the idea of such a thing. In this paper, big data will be described exactly, including the way it is projected to affect the marketing world, and how utilitarianism should be applied to the moral dilemma in order to reach a satisfactory resolution on the topic. 2. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or 2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of the centerline of the runway. Many children grow up with or without a family thus resulting the way they behave. Having a good relationship with your family is the key to a healthy living. We need to trust one another and learn to gain respect for a happy future. This is an important part of the process to a healthy relationship because it plays a crucial role in instilling values and teaching responsibilities. For example if there are parents who fought a lot, the child would be insecure towards other people. Another, point is that it helps solve misunderstandings in the family, thus creating a stable unity. Back to text, family relationships was the main theme in the four texts that I have read/watched: Secrets and Lies, The Castle, Good Will Hunting and Not without my Daughter. This has influenced a number of authors and directors to direct to create films that relate to a certain topic of family. This is because it focuses on the family itself, which can have an impact on the audience who may be experiencing this kind of problem in the text. This is shown in the four texts that I have studied: Secrets and Lies, The Castle, Good Will Hunting and Not Without my Daughter. As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although No One wants To Be Defeated. It is better to go because in the end It Doesn t Matter Who is Wrong Or Right. Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts). Today, these immigrants and primarily Mexicans have been attacked by the comments President Trump made during his campaign. He called Mexicans, bad hombres and rapist and murderers. Now that he is President there has been a series of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids that have caused paranoia for all the Hispanic community. The deportation of illegal immigrants has been present since the Bush administration and even the Obama administration, but none have stirred the pot as much as Trump s. In an article by Vox that spoke about the raids, one ICE official from Las Angeles said that of the 151 arrests they made, all but 5 would ve been people we would ve prioritized for enforcement previously. Trump has set up a decrease in guidelines of what warrants an individual from being deported. Before, there was a set guidelines where they prioritize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Bala, Carrington Roberts (2009), The Young Offenders Act, which came into force in 1984, was a highly controversial statute. While conservative politicians criticized the law for being soft on youth crime, there were also concerns that, under the YOA, use of courts and custody had risen, and by the early years of the millennium, Canada had one of the lowest rates of youth diversion and one of the highest rates of youth custody in the world (p. 132) Due to these issues and many others, the Youth Criminal Justice Act was formed, in hopes of ... Marie Antoinette was a queen that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became queen. These foreclosed properties problems range from unkempt yards, broken doors and windows, as well as becoming dangerous havens for drugs and violent acts of vandalism. In addition, empty foreclosed homes drive down property values of surrounding homes and neighborhoods. Many of these homes became foreclosures because the buyers could not afford the payments. Component One The first component of the solution is addressing the banks toxic assets that were created by the mortgage banks lending on overvalued property and lending to consumers that could not afford the payments. Underwriters should have prevented more of this; however that was not the case. In the future, banks and lenders will need to be more effective in the approval process that qualifies home buyers. The banks will have the option to participate in this program or not. They will also have the chance to pick and choose which properties will be included, if any. As a result, the banks will need to take a marginal loss initially so they can recover most of the invested capital. All toxic assets will need to be reappraised at the bank s expense so that the true value of the property can be reestablished. Once they have been reappraised these properties are unloaded by the banks for seventy percent of their current value which will recoup an acceptable amount of capital return to the banks. Taking advantage of this program would allow the banks to recapitalize themselves rather than receiving Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) loans that need to be repaid. (H.R. 1424, 2008) This also frees them of the toxic assets and improves their overall profitability and bottom line. Once these assets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Alzheimer s Disease ( Ad ) And Associated Dementias Contemporary Issues Formative Essay Introduction For the purpose of this essay I will be comparing how Alzheimer s Disease (AD) and associated dementias are recognised in the United Kingdom (UK) and responded to, when compared to Italy. I have chosen this subject as there are indications from both countries that dementia sufferers will increase dramatically over the next twenty years. It is estimated that there are 800,000 people in the UK with AD and dementia, this number is expected to double by 2040. At present the cost to the economy is £23 billion, by 2040 the costs are likely to treble(Gov.UK). REFERENCE NEEDED. In Italy there are approximately 1 million people living with dementia. This campaign was a Facebook campaign that got users to vote to save their favorite Monopoly token (pieces) would retire and which ones would replace them. Not only was the campaign on Facebook, but they also created YouTube videos regarding each token, and over 20 companies partnered up to support their favorite token. This cleaver campaign increased the sales of Monopoly board games substantially, and also allowed users to change the game forever. A majority of VaynerMedia s services are online social platforms and they have only recently reached out to television ads. Because of their largely social media campaigns they are focused with real life engagement with their target audience with increased followers, response back and people who post supporting their campaign. With strategic social media analytics the company is able to see how the brand and campaign is performing with engagement, followers, people it reached and expanding stories beyond their social media posts. Its obvious to see that Vayner Media is taking over the new age marketing with social media campaigns that allows is followers to actively engage in the campaigns and with the companies that are associated with them. Now with their expansion into television and large partners such as GE, Anheuser Busch, and the New York Jets, it seems to me that Vayner Media will be a power house marketing agency for a long ... My Childhood and Youth Studies at Coventry University I am currently studying my first year of Childhood and Youth Studies at Coventry University, and hope to progress and study a PGCE to qualify to become a primary school teacher. I enjoy working with children and watching them improve over time; it gives me a great feeling knowing that I helped them improve. I have previously undertaken a placement at Coundon Court Early Years nursery, with children aged from six months to five years, I worked with the children aged three to five. From my placement I gained many skills such as patience, a good sense of humour and enthusiasm. I feel that patience is necessary as working with young children can be challenging, and also because all children have their own learning pace. For example, the children aged four and five had written their name starting from right to left. On the other hand the children below this age group included the correct letters that appeared in the name, but all in the incorrect order. Teachers need to be aware of each child s individual needs and work to help them reach full potential within their capabilities. Patience is also necessary as children are not always going to be familiar with what is being taught to them, I believe that teachers always need to be willing to see things from other people s perspectives too. The difficulties I experienced with learning as a young child have given me empathy for others when they go through similar issues. A teacher that only recently understood something remembers ... • 41. Disability Issues In I Am Sam I am Sam is a great movie to watch in diversity class. It focuses on a diversity issue that is overlooked in society today. The main issue of the movie was that the main character Sam has an Intellectual disability and he is struggling to take care of his daughter. Intellectual disability is a disability that interferes with a person s cognitive abilities and the functions they use in everyday life. This includes everything from their social skills to the way they behave (Chadwick, Wesson, Fullwood, 2013). Society tends to forget that everyone has equal rights in America. In the movie they are basically trying to take Sam s rights away as a parent because of his disability. They believe that he is not able to properly care for his child being that his mental capacity is that of a seven year old. Instead of the justice system trying to provide him with the resources he needs, they rather just take the child out of her home. This is unfair treatment and a form of discrimination in my opinion. Another diversity issue in this movie is his socioeconomic status. Sam is classified as having low socioeconomic status. Due to his disability he can only work at fast food types of jobs which don t pay well. With him having a child to take care of on his own it limits his finances even more. There are not a lot of places that hire people with disabilities. If they do find a job the pay is low making it extremely difficult for them to live on their own, and take care of their family. ... • 44. Iran Between Iran And Pakistan Essay Iran s nuclear program is very debatable and has been even more debatable ever since they started enriching their uranium that can be possibly become a nuclear weapon. This gives the west and Israel a reason to be more worried about the issue. However in all of this there is an admission lately because Iran and the P 5 +1 have reach a nuclear deal in order to loosen the harsh sanctions they have received resulting in billions of dollars back to the Iranians in return for shutting down the program for half a year. However if this politeness and skill with people fails then it is time for crime prevention method to go into play here and possible military action. There are other nations that have nuclear weapons like India and Pakistan without a permission slip. So all in all it seems to be unfair that Iran is being discriminated in all of this but there are clear differences between Iran and Pakistan or even India. Now some political scientists believe that Iran independent power is being violated if they have to sign a permission slip to make legal their nuclear program according the IAEA. This would have been a good argument if Iran didn t accept the deal. But Iran did and they agree to the UN that when the parts deal demands the Iranians to reduce their purity on their uranium to a lower percentage where it is suited for nuclear power only to prevent a nuclear armed Iran. So in terms of a nuclear program the Iranians already accepted to do this directly or indirectly even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Resistance Of Movement Of The Cell If a cell is to perform its functions it must maintain a steady state in the midst of an ever changing environment. This steadiness is maintained by the regulation of movement of materials into and out of the cell. To achieve this control, cells are bounded by a delicate membrane that differentiates between different substances, slowing down the movement of some while allowing others to pass through. The membrane is said to be differentially permeable since not all substances penetrate equally well. Selective permeability is a characteristic of healthy, intact cells. When a cell is seriously damaged, the membrane becomes permeable to virtually to everything and substances can move freely in and out of the cell. (Marieb 2013) Movement of ... (Marieb 2013) Osmosis, is a special kind of diffusion, is defined as the diffusion of water through a semi permeable membrane from a higher concentration to that of a lower concentration. The concentration of water is inversely related to the concentration of solutes. If the water can diffuse across the membrane, both water and solutes will move down their concentration gradients through the membrane. (Marieb 2012) There are three terms used to describe the concentrations of solute particles of different solutions: Hypotonic When compared to another solution of different concentration, the solution contains the lower concentration of solute particles. Water moves across a semi permeable membrane out of a hypotonic solution. Hypertonic When compared to another solution of different concentration, the solution that contains the higher concentration of solute particles. Water moves across a semi permeable membrane into a hypertonic solution. Isotonic Having the same concentration of solute particles as another solution. There is no net flow of water across the membrane. In animal cells, the movement of water is affected by the relative solute concentration of the plasma membrane. As water moves out of the cell, the cell shrink and if water moves into the cell, the cell swells and may even burst. PURPOSE: The objective of this experiment is to ... • 46. Mont Blanc Is An Example Of American Romanticism For many centuries people have assumed that Romantic poets and authors are adverse or merely incompatible with the natural sciences. This normative view has persisted though the ages and has transformed the way readers interpret and react to Romantic era poetry. Not only has this assumption disillusioned readers, but also it has led many to cripple their perspective and limit their judgment of such poets. A prominent example of the adverse of this assumption is Percy Bysshe Shelley. Shelley, within his ode Mont Blanc: Lines Written in the Vale of Chamouni, proves that romantic era poets are capable of blending romantic ideas with natural sciences enlightenment era thought. It is very clear that within Mont Blanc, he perceives the mountain to be far superior to humankind in every way. • 48. The Georgia Straight, By Adrian Mack And Miranda Nelson s... The choices of words, research, and exceptional organization in an essay will amaze an audience, while a poorly written one will make a very strong argument ineffective. This failure of possessing a robust argument and being unable to effectively deliver it is expressed through Adrian Mack and Miranda Nelson s Vancouver Hockey Riot Is a Symptom of a Larger Problem . The authors view the riot of June 15th, 2011 in a much broader perspective and intend to use the event as a means to attack the government. Published in the youth oriented magazine, The Georgia Straight, the essay focuses to appeal to the youth of Vancouver and does this adequately through its aggressive tone. However, due to the lack of crucial evidence to support their claims and along with the hypocrisy within the piece, the effectiveness of the essay to express the argument is poor. Mack and Nelson begin their essay by taking a look at the borderline psychotic society of Vancouver (Mack and Nelson 209). The essay discusses the alienated community the city has become along with the foolishness of the youth. This information soon becomes misleading as the blame from the riot is dismissed from the city and is placed elsewhere. The outlook of the frenzy is taken from a much more expansive approach and this is evident in the statement: It s a problem that, as always, starts from the very top (210). Mack and Nelson note that rather than the rioter s being the problem, the economy and politicians are at fault ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
