Aim: to understand how to create a beauty image shoot using advanced lighting techniques
 Use three point lighting techniques to light models
 Recognise the creative opportunities available in using gels
 Make creative decisions in working with hard light/soft light.

2. Generally speaking Soft lighting is used in beauty imagery or a combination of soft and hard
light. The soft light is most usually used as the key light. The You-Tube video used a Beauty
dish. Which is a soft light source especially when fitted with a diffuser.
If you are interested in Beauty imagery, you should as part of your research look for images
which are shot with hard and sift light sources for example see below

3. Task.
Imagine you are assisting these Photographers. What type of equipment would you
use to light the Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shoots above and the Solve Sundsbo
Shoots.
Show your understanding of beauty imagery by researching the characteristics of
(1) Bowens Max light reflector
(2) Bowens Soft box
(3) Snoot
(4) Why are reflectors (boards) important in studio and location lighting….
You should make the exercise visual by showing example pictures of portraits obtained
with the different types of light.
