Geometry
What is a
Geometry?
Geometry means earth
measure. It was derived from
the Greek words “GEO” and
“METRON” which means
Earth Measurement
Basic Geometric
concepts
Points
- A point is represented by a small dot and
named by capital letter.
Lines
- A line is a series of points that extends
continuously in opposite directions.
A
Q R
Plane
- A plane consists of infinite set of points and
extends continuously in every direction.
KINDS OF LINES
KINDS OF LINES
STRAIGHT LINE
- A straight line is a line that does not curve.
- A line extends in both directions without end
(infinitely)
RAY
- A ray is the part of line consisting of
one endpoint and all the points of the line
one side of the endpoint.
Line Segment
- A segment is the part of line consisting
of two endpoints and all points between
them.
PARALLEL LINES
- Two lines are parallel if they never meet.
They are always the same distance apart
INTERSECTING LINES
- The intersecting lines (two or more)
meet only at one point always.
PERPENDICULAR LINES
- If the lines make 2 or 4 right angles (90º) when
they meet in a point, then they are perpendiculars.
