This document discusses barriers to effective communication at three levels: intrapersonal, interpersonal, and organizational. At the intrapersonal level, barriers arise from individual differences in background, perceptions, assumptions and thinking. Interpersonal barriers occur due to issues with language skills, nonverbal cues not matching verbal messages, emotional outbursts, cultural differences, poor listening, and noise. Organizational barriers include long communication chains that distort messages, fear of superiors, inappropriate media use, and information overload. Overcoming these barriers through understanding their causes is important for smooth communication.
