Using Windows Azure for Solving Identity Management Challenges (Visual Studio...Michael Collier
Identity management for cloud deployed applications can be a challenge. Often users will want to leverage an existing social network or corporate identity. Now we have to worry about dealing with multiple APIs, any updates to those APIs, or the addition of new identity providers. Windows Azure Access Control Services offers a better way! ACS allows for federated user authentication via popular social networks and Active Directory. In this session we’ll provide a crash course in claims as they relate to identity management. We’ll discuss why claims are important and how to add additional claims beyond what is provided by the identity providers. We'll also take a look at Windows Azure Active Directory and see how to manage corporate identities in the cloud.

Batch processing systems are regularly used to integrate data from multiple applications, usually developed and supported by different suppliers, and/or hosted on different software and hardware environments. JSR 352 (batch processing for the Java platform), which is part of the Java EE 7 platform, defines a programming model for batch applications and an execution environment on which to run and manage these batch processes. This presentation will show you how to create a batch processing system using the Java EE batch API. Topics covered will include batch processing architecture, developing Java EE batch jobs, the lifecycle of jobs, integration with message queues, and scalability and strength.
Mobile devices are so useful because they can get on the net with their built-in wi-fi or cellular data radios. But how does this work? In iOS, we have a slew of networking APIs, each appropriate in different situations. From decades-old BSD sockets to the new-in-iOS-5 iCloud, there are a wide range of networking calls available to your app, and an equally wide range of semantics in how to use them. In this talk, we'll start with high-level abstractions like iCloud and other objects that can either load from or save to a URL, then progress down through the stack, grabbing arbitrary content from URLs, self-networking with Bonjour and Game Kit, and finally accessing the socket layer with CFNetwork and BSD sockets.

Building Cloud-Native Applications with Microsoft Windows AzureBill Wilder
Cloud computing is here to stay, and it is never too soon to begin understanding the impact it will have on application architecture. In this talk we will discuss the two most significant architectural mind-shifts, discussing the key patterns changes generally and seeing how these new cloud patterns map naturally into specific programming practices in Windows Azure. Specifically this relates to (a) Azure Roles and Queues and how to combine them using cloud-friendly design
patterns, and (b) the combination of relational data and non-relational data, how to decide among them, and how to combine them. The goal is for mere mortals to build highly reliable applications that scale economically. The concepts discussed in this talk are relevant for developers and architects building systems for the cloud today, or who want to be prepared to move to the cloud in the future.
This talk was delivered by Bill Wilder at the Vermont Code Camp 2 on 11-Sept-2010.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

• Some similarities
• Table storage lacks backup procedure, while
CosmosDB has it
• Table storage has storage-based pricing, while
CosmosDB has throughput-based
• Table storage is aimed at high capacity on a single
region, while CosmosDB aims at global distribution,
high throughput
• Choosing which depends on different scenarios
54. Mobile apps
• A good choice for mobile apps
• But Azure Easy Tables is better
- An app service
- Backed by Azure SQL and geared towards
mobile apps
57. The way forward
• Azure Table storage lives on (we hope!)
• A need to get further support and new
functionality
• Lack of basic database operations is a problem
• Ease of setup and use is a definite plus, that’s
where Table storage shines
