Many common electronic devices rely on antennas to communicate
wirelessly. Antennas are transducers that convert electromagnetic waves
to electric current or vice versa. Antennas can be used in outer space,
underwater, rock, or soil. Most common applications use air as the typical
propagation medium.
While it takes many years to become an expert antenna designer, several
basic antenna specifications are described to enable a starting point for
antenna selection. Standard antenna solutions are also presented for several
common applications.
This guide simplifies application design and accelerates time-to-market by defining basic, system-level Interconnect, Passive and Electromechanical (IP&E)building blocks. In addition, the guide provides a “who’s who” of IP&E technology manufacturers and demonstrates how Avnet can meet a full breadth of product requirements and, in the process, add exceptional value to our customers.
Avnet's free, supply chain diagnostic tool enables customers to model the true cost savings they will experience by adding Avnet as their supply chain partner.

Today’s shoppers expect retailers to have the same or better information available whenever they interact with the brand — online, in-store or via a mobile device. In addition to product information, retailers are wise to have all relevant cross-channel customer information available and accessible. The truth is that 40% to 70% of shoppers already have researched their desired products online before going to the store. And, of the consumers who enter the store knowing what they want to buy, 50% leave empty-handed because they can’t find what they are looking for.
But when store associates are armed with mobile devices, they can personalize their interaction with customers by suggesting upsells and cross-sells; accessing product ratings and reviews; providing comparisons with other products, looking up inventory; and finally completing the transaction on-the-spot using mobile payment or processing a return.
Industry-leading retailers realize the importance of implementing mobile commerce. Starmount’s Mobile Selling Assistant, called Engage, currently is deployed in all Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People stores; and the device is also being piloted by several other nationally recognized retailers.
This webinar will provide answers to key questions on retailers’ minds as they plan to integrate mobile commerce in-store. A selection of those questions include:
How will mobile commerce affect store operations?
What infrastructure must be in place?
Will the mobile commerce system be secure?
What is the best way to communicate with customers going forward?

Companies preparing to migrate their systems over to Windows 7 – or even just considering a migration – can benefit from learning from the IT teams who have been there and done that. Symantec conducted a survey of more than 1,300 IT managers across the globe to help to determine best, and worst, practices that will help make future Windows 7 migrations successful. For example, the survey found that a sound migration plan and an integrated, automated solution are key ingredients of a successful migration to Windows 7.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:

Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
