1) Infectious bronchitis virus causes respiratory disease in chickens, resulting in coughing, sneezing, and difficulty breathing within 24 hours of infection. 2) Young chicks may also experience eye and nasal discharge in addition to respiratory signs. Mortality is usually low but secondary bacterial infections can increase death rates. 3) In layers, egg production may drop by 50% and eggs may become soft-shelled and misshapen due to viral replication in the reproductive tract.
