Sherlock Holmes Is The Best Detective Ever
?Elementary, my dear Watson?, these are words that will live in fame being said by the great
Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes has paved the way for more things then you think like with
detective shows you watch and with detective story?s. ?You see, but you do not observe. The
distinction is clear ? Sherlock Holmes. Perhaps Sherlock Holmes is the best detective ever.
Sherlock Holmes has created the investigative techniques used in the real world. We never would
have thought to dust for finger prints. Or look in to foot prints to know the size of a person. Or
would we have been able to discover smallest of details in a case. Sherlock Holmes has created
the forensic science that all people use to solve case today. If it wasn?t for him we would not have
the resources and medical examiner that we have today. Sherlock Holmes has made the modern

A cipher is any method to decoding a secret message in any form. Most people consider Sherlock
Holmes to be the king of all ciphers. Conan Doyle wrote many books about how to figure out
ciphers. Most of the books he wrote were about how to decode written messages. Conan Doyle was
influenced by many but the main persons who influenced him was Edgar Allan Poe, and ?mile
Gaboriau. If it was not for these fames writers Sherlock Holmes would never have been made.
He decided to write his story?s in criminal investigations because he felt the good should win
sometimes. He felt that his stories would influence the way the detective story would be written.
Many people in the writing industry have adapted to Sherlock?s Holmes?s detective style. Being
influenced by Conan Doyle people become inspired to write stories like his. Everyone knows that
Conan Doyle had a very strategic way of writing which made people enjoy his writing even more.

The Manifestation of Pride in The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis
The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis suggests that choices made on earth have a consequential effect
towards our acceptance into heaven or our plummet into hell. In this book pride manifests itself in a
hundred subtle ways as souls whine about perceived injustices or irrational motives. Thankfully, a
few tourists do humble themselves, become transformed into marvelously real beings, and remain
in heaven. But most don t, about which the great Scottish author George MacDonald, Lewis
heavenly guide, says, They may not be rejecting the truth of heaven now. They may be reenacting
the rejection they made while on earth . George MacDonald the narrator/teacher, from whom Lewis

Adoption has brought me through the hands of my birth mother to a mother who has now raised
me for 16 years. Conversations with my birth mother result in dramatic feelings for her and for
me, tyranny of the past (p.102). But, Lewis suggests in the book that the past is all she (the
ghost) chose to have and that it was the wrong way to deal with sorrow . My birth mother could
very well be the ghost as I was even an accident . As her memory of me is deceiving and still
consuming her thoughts. This maternal or instinctual love is preventing my mother from moving
on in her own life.
A material mind set is a reality of many entrepreneurs and is well represented in this book
through the man with the bowler hat, Ikey. This mans thoughts revolve around providing
necessity, But if I can come back with some real commodities...why, at once you d get a demand
down in our town (p.13). For a real world entrepreneur, such as Ikey, it would be simple for
thoughts to be consumed by opportunism. If thoughts are consumed by need, it leaves less time
to reflect on choices and can cause Acedia (restlessness or despair). Lewis makes this point later
in chapter six while referring to Ikey, ...still availing himself of every scrap of cover, he set out on
his Via dolorosa to the bus, carrying his torture (p.49). Ikey s refusal to rest denies him an
opportunity, which any entrepreneur would never give up, but in this instance his

The Adaptive Immune System
The immune system is split into two groups, innate and adaptive.
Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that, during exposure of an antigen, act
at once or within a few hours . Physical barriers like skin, chemicals in the blood, and cells in the
immune system that attack foreign cells are examples of defense mechanisms. An antigen s chemical
make up is what triggers the innate immune to respond.
Adaptive immunity however, is antigen specific, has immunologic memory and consists of
responses of both T and B cells. It is more complex than the innate immunity, as processing and
recognizing the antigen must first be done before immune cells can be created by the adaptive
immune system to attack it.
The innate and acquired

Government Should Be Best For Cambodia
Throughout time citizens of different countries have been ruled by different types of governments.
Some governments have been strong and some have been weak in ruling their people. It has been
shown throughout history that countries thrived under stronger governments. This is evidenced by
such governments as the colonial rule of Great Britain, the Roman Empire, the Chinese Dynasties
and the Egyptian civilization. All of these governments had a different way of ruling but the
common thread they all shared was that they had a strong central government that ruled to enhance
and serve the lives of its citizens. The aim of this paper is not to prove that any one particular
mode of government will be best for Cambodiabut whether a Communist backed government is
benefiting or crippling Cambodia and it s citizens as a whole. Today the Cambodian people are at a
crossroad and currently trying to decide on the best form of government for their country moving
forward. There are two major parties trying to prove that their type of government is correct and the
best one for the Cambodian people. The ruling party at this time is one known as the Constitutional
Monarchy. The Constitutional Monarchy...
The other major party, the Khmer Rouge, essentially favors Communism.
First, one must examine further how Cambodia evolved into its current state of governance.

Crimes And Misdemeanors Analysis
In the movie Crimes and Misdemeanors, written and directed by Woody Allen, human morality
and the possible existence of a God and the connection humans may have to this God are
discussed. The main plot has a few stories to follow, all with intersecting characters. The main
character of the film if Judah Rosenthal, and Judah is having an affair on his wife Miriam with a
woman named Dolores for about two years. Judah wants to end the affair, but Dolores is
strongly against it and threatens to ruin Judah s marriage by spilling the news to his wife if he
doesn t continue to be with her, and later she demands he leaves his family for her. Judah is an
eye doctor, and one of his patients is a rabbi named Ben. Ben is obviously very religious, and...

Levy is shown in some scenes through Cliff s movie. Prof. Levy basically explains that life is a
great thing, and it s naturally neutral, but humans inflict their feelings onto life, and humans can
live life through making their own decisions and trying to be happy. Prof. Levy says that life is
good, morality is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite
these positive ideas, the professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out
the window . This is an incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook
and ideology a person has on life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself
because he understood how simple life was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and
that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we
create bad and good, we create God, we accept God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we
are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make life difficult and complex, and I think
Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew this, and so he ended his life
because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His suicide note is simple
and straightforward; the way death is. No matter what a person s belief, no matter how simple or
complex life can be, death is always straightforward. This whole movie discusses a few lives and

This research paper is intended for everyone expected to lead, manage and implement change. It
covers every aspect of managing change, including essential principles, managing stakeholders,
dealing with resisters, building effective change teams and more.
Introduction
Significant organizational change occurs, for example, when an organization changes its overall
strategy for success, adds or removes a major section or practice, and/or wants to change the very
nature by which it operates. It also occurs when an organization evolves through various life cycles,
just like people must successfully evolve through life cycles. For organizations to develop, they
often must undergo significant change at various points in their development. That s why the topic
of organizational change and development has become widespread in communications about
business, organizations, leadership and management.
Leaders and managers continually make efforts to accomplish successful and significant change it s
inherent in their jobs. Some are very good at this effort (probably more than we realize), while
others continually struggle and fail. That s often the difference between people who thrive in their
roles and those that get shuttled around from job to job, ultimately settling into a role where they re
frustrated and ineffective.
There are many schools with educational programs about organizations, business, leadership and
management. Unfortunately, there still are not

The Role Of The Habsburg Monarchy
(1) Introduction
Modern Europe is a peaceful co existence of sovereign countries, of which most of them are part of
the European Union. Until this stage many centuries of state and nation formation have passed.
Those centuries were shaped by fragmentation in the form of republics and foreign intervention. In
all of these aspects the Habsburg Monarchy played a crucial role. To understand the particular
process of state and nation building throughout the history of Europe, more specifically, in the
Habsburg Empire the terms nation and state in the modern notion have to be defined.
First, Roberts provides a definition of state that claims to be:
presence of a supreme authority, ruling over a defined territory, who is recognized as having the...

the different realms for the future was remarkable.
Born on May 13, 1717 she was the oldest daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. The
death of his only son prompted Charles to promulgate the Pragmatic Sanction, an agreement, that
was recognized by most European powers by which a female was entitled to succeed the Habsburg
Empire.
Although the Pragmatic Sanction became the legal basis for a unified Habsburg State, Maria
Theresa immediately saw herself under attack. Bavaria, the Saxons and a part of the Bohemian
nobility protested against the succession to the throne and demanded parts of the Habsburg
Dynasty. As a result, Frederick II of Prussia invaded the rich province of Silesia, belonging to the
kingdom of Bohemia, a satellite kingdom of the Habsburg Empire (Palmer et al., 2014, p. 295).
As a young queen, she confronted the Hungarian assembled nobles to show her absolute power
for the first time, asking for their support in war. Following this, the war ended in 1748 with
Maria Theresa loosing Silesia to Prussia whereupon she was recognized by all former adversaries
as the Monarch of the remaining Habsburg realms (Heimann, 2001,

The History Of Scientology
Scientology is a religious system based on the seeking of self knowledge and spiritual fulfillment
through graded courses of study and training ( Scientology ). Scientology was founded in 1954,
by Lafayette Ronald Hubbard. A man who wrote and published Dianetics, which is the equivalent
of the Bible in Christianity. The church s beliefs and practices are based off of Dianetics, and the
teachings of Hubbard. Scientologists say they believe that through religious training such as
auditing and spending time at the church they will reach a state of clear, as well as recall past

From celebrities to average, everyday citizens a good percentage of ex Scientologist report one
or another form of abuse. Firstly, there is the physical abuse which ranges all the way from
accounts of Miscavige abuse to other members of the church being forced to attack each other
(Childs et al.). Secondly, there is the form of emotional abuse, which consists of being yelled at
about sexuality, and being forced to feel like a prisoner or a mental health patient. The
Emotional abuse in the church often happens when Miscavige forces staffers to routine checks
in which they are forced to spill all their secrets, and if Miscavige hears anything he doesn t like
then the people confessing are punished (Childs et al.). The staff members are also prohibited
from leaving the church. They work in buildings with individual security guards that follow the
person, and there are fences everywhere, as well as cameras (Childs et al.). Eventually, it gives
the staffer a feeling that they are a prisoner, like they can t leave, they are trapped. Even after
leaving the church an Ex Scientologist said that when she and her husband were testifying against
their contract, discrediting the couple s argument, making it seem invalid. In addition to
emotional abuse, physical abuse is very present in the church as well. The workers are being
worked seven days a week, sixteen hours a day, and for $17 a week

Home Network Or Home Area Network
Home Area Network A home network or home area network (HAN) is a type of local area
network that grows from the need to facilitate communication. Devices are capable of joining in
this network smart devices such as network printers and handheld mobile computers. Home area
network only works in a single building, a building of offices and in a home that means within a
short specific area. Communication plays a very important role in our daily life it has become a
most compulsory thing to have at least a communication device per each person. It is now very
significant to communicate with other people to finish work without travelling from one place
to the other which takes a lot of time and money. Therefore, the appearance of fast and reliable
communication is being inclined day by day. To perform these preferred levels of
communication we need a network which can doing as a media between the communicators on
either side. These networks from its beginning as a straight type with low reliability and speed,
now after many involvements and creations of man developed as a communication network with
no time delay and high reliability. All the PCs, laptops and communication devices of a network

of the most important astrophysicists and astronomers from the 20th century. She has had an
amazing life, with revolutionary work. It is appropriate for her to be retired now. Dame Jocelyn

Future of the Juvenile Justice System
Future of the Juvenile Justice System
The future of the juvenile justice system is uncertain. There is a struggle to try a find a way to
serve the needs of the juvenile delinquents and issue them a punishment for violating the law. In
order to improve the direction of the juvenile justice system, recommendations are needed regarding
community involvement, law enforcement, courts, corrections, and the private sector. These
recommendations address issues that the system is currently facing and offers solutions for the

Justification and Funding for the Juvenile Justice System
The juvenile justice system was founded on the belief that children are different from adults;
therefore, the justice system and corrections sanctions for juveniles should acknowledge the
differences. Rising juvenile crime rates during the 1970s and 1980s spurred state legislatures across
the country to exclude or transfer a significant share of offenders under the age of eighteen to the
jurisdiction of the criminal court (Fagan, 2008). The acknowledgement of these differences should
be the bases for a proper juvenile justice system. The examination of the juvenile justice s systems
history, trends, and causation theories will provide an insight into the future of the juvenile justice
system.
History
The juvenile justice system is a system that evolves with society focusing on the welfare of the
child, and the protection to the community. The history of the modern juvenile justice system began
with the English common law. The common law specified an age limit on when a child could begin
to be held accountable for criminal acts, which placed the age limit at seven (Champion, 2010).
Although an age limit was placed on offenders, during the 1700s criminal offenders were treated in
the same manner, which could include banishment, whippings, and other corporal punishments for
offenders over the

Partition Is The Gateway For Mass Hatred Between Hindus...
Partition itself was the gateway for mass hatred between Hindus and Muslims. Following partition
as majority of Hindus, Sikh, and Muslim relocated into India and Pakistan based on their
respective religions, the Hindu majority being represented by India and the Muslim majority
represented by Pakistan. Several people did go to their respective sides following the partition,
feeling as though the two religious groups truly were separate people, however not every one took
part in this migration, some Muslims and Hindus chose not to relocate despite their religious

their homeland and the large implications religious politics have on their social, familial and
ancestral relationships in South Asia. Partition led to the unraveling of several investments that
Muslims had to support their lives in India before partition. The film Garahm Hawa (1975)

Juvenile Crime Violence And Violence
In today s society juvenile crime is an increasing issue in the United States. When speaking on
juvenile violence there are many different types of violence like youth violence, school violence,
dating violence, gang violence. The problem is clear, the solution not so much. What can we do to
prevent and or minimize the amount of juvenile violence and crime? Each topic selected compares
to one another for example, gangviolence leads into school violence, which leads into dating
violence, which all wraps up under youth violence. Each of these topics is also different from
one another because, they all focus on a different type of violence. Each type of violence can take
a life. Whether that life is taken by any weapon of choice or a life taken by the judicial system
meaning incarceration.
GANG VIOLENCE
Gang violence statistics indicate that are down slightly from previous years, but continue to rise
since the early part of the decade. According to gang violence statistics, about 60,000 gang related
arrests have been made throughout the past ten years. Gang violence statistics reveal that gang
violence among teens and adults is still a growing problem with about 7,184 gang related arrests
being made in 2010 alone followed by about 3,176 convictions throughout the United States. The

How Women s Roles in History are Different of Those Today In the last three decades women s
roles in society have changed. We are now seen as more than just a pretty face that can cook, clean,
and take care of our children. Throughout history, we have seen more and more of these gender
roles, and also viewed differently in the past. Women played a major role in prehistory to 1500
CE. So, what roles did women play in society at that time? Were they treated or viewed differently

But still at this time men were viewed differently than women were viewed. In the Era of
Confucius, 80 CE, women didn t matter that much at all. However as I read in the article, Lessons
for a woman, a women took it upon herself to create how she feels her and her daughters should
be taught and what their customs are. The rules that she expects women to follow are somewhat
practical. She states that women should be respectful and Put others before herself. A women
should go to bed late but rise early to get her chores and daily duties done. It also states on how
married men and women should act. It also states that a woman should have four qualifications,
womanly virtue, womanly words, womanly bearing, and womanly work. It was important back
then for a woman to be seen and not heard. Again women still had the rough life and were only
viewed as mothers and house wives back in this time period. In the Mayan Empire women
varied according to class. The wealthy women had slaves and other servants who met their
every need. Poor women like farmer s wives had to cook, care for their children weave or sew
and help their husbands grow crops. The wealthier women did not have any political power. Also
these women could be used as pawns in marriage to secure better diplomatic relations between

Okonkwo s Manliness In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
In the book Okonkwo s main prerogative was to keep his manliness the only personality he had.
However, his manliness wasn t led by his crave for success, but rather his anger toward his dad.
Even as a little boy he had resented his father s failure and weakness, and even now he still
remembered how he suffered when a playmate had told him that his father was agbala... And so
Okonkwo was ruled by one passion to hate everything that his father Unoka had loved (Achebe,
13). His peer calling his dad an agbala was one of the main roots that fueled his anger. Even
though, the memories are a prominent part, the words also show his emotional state. For example,
resented is used to describe how much he hated his dad. In time, his resentment as a child grew
into pure hatred. To show how much his anger overruled his life, the shield is covered in the color

The Gamble, John Sides And Lynn Vavreck
Political campaigning is now the full fledged live version of chess, with pawns, queens and
kings, but is all this parading and strategizing actually important? What is even the purpose
behind political campaigns; is it to inform the public about a candidate or through clever means to
win an election at all costs? The truth of the matter is that campaigns do actually serve an
important purpose in the political world of America. Its purpose is to help inform voters about
candidates and to improve the number of voters at the polling place. In order for these goals to be
achieved there needs to be a clear platform upon which the campaign is built. In the book The
Gamble, John Sides and Lynn Vavreck write that a successful campaign takes advantage of the
fundamentals, national conditions that set the stage for the campaign, (2). These fundamentals are
conditions that the candidate has no control over, like the economy, their opponent, obstacles or
opportunities, and how the candidate reacts to them affect their ability to be elected (Sides and
Vavreck 2). It is upon these fundamentals that a campaign is built. They inform political stances and

2. Chapter 3: Briefly summarize the major eras of Mexico U.S. migration. Why does Massey argue
that these trends contradict the neoclassical economic view of migratory decision making? Do you
agree?

The major eras of Mexico to U.S. migration include the Era of Enganche, the
Era of Deportation, the Bracero Era, the Era of Undocumented Migration, and the
Great Divide. The Era of Enganche spanned from 1900 to 1929. The opening of the Mexican
Central Railroad connected a part of the U.S. to Mexico, promoting new markets and industries with
new, fertile valleys and natural resources now connected with railroads (27). During this time,
immigration from Asia was becoming more restrictive. This promoted U.S. ... Show more content

I agree with Massey because unlike the neoclassical economic view, migration relies on interrelated
people. Fewer migrants are acting individually, and more work together to expand capital gain.
3. Chapter 4: Briefly summarize the seven major steps of the migration cycle and their parameters ?
Why does Massey argue that together these processes constituted a stable, mutually beneficial
migration system for the
U.S. and Mexico? Do you agree? Why or why not?

The first major step in the migration cycle is leaving. Leaving is described as the initial trip to the
United States. The probability of Mexicans entering the United
States between 1965 and 1985 grew at a steady rate, solely for undocumented males. The
probability collapsed in 1983, due to the Mexican oil boom, but later grew again because of an
economic collapse. The next step is crossing.
Undocumented migrants usually paid coyotes to be smuggled across the border. The use of
coyotes increased with the rise of Border Patrol linewatch hours. The third step is arriving.
Because Texas shares the largest border with Mexico, Texas became the prime point of entry.
However, the bracero program shifted migrants

Human Interrupt Water Transduction Essay Essay
Human interrupt water pathways in two ways
1. Withdrawals:
We take water out of the system to irrigate crops, to provide us with drinking water and to carry out
many of our industrial processes.
2. Discharges:
We add substances to the water intentionally or not. As precipitation falls on the ground and moves
into rivers and creeks, it picks up a whole range of pollutants. In rural areas these pollutants may
include farm pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers as well as wastes from faulty septic systems and
improperly handled manure. In urban areas, the pollutants may include gas, oil, pet waste,
fertilizers, pesticides, salt and treated human waste from sewage treatment plants.
What we do to this system affects everything within it. For example, what happens if rain that falls
from the sky or the water that flows through our streams is contaminated? These contaminants may
infect plant or animal life including human beings, or reduce their ability to grow and reproduce.
What happens if large quantities of water are diverted or taken out of the system? The reduced
flow will likely affect the local water supply but it may eventually change the local environment
and alter the plant and animal species that are found here. As we place different stresses on this
system, we run the risk of altering or overloading it and causing serious harm.
The Credit River is an important part of the watershed and the water cycle in this area. What we do
here affects us locally and

space on either side between two other paintings. The painting is on canvas, and is framed in a
thick, gold frame with no glass. The media is oil paints, and the lighting in the gallery is such that
there are no reflections in the paint when viewing from different angles. The subject matter of the

I also chose the first piece because of the almost off putting gaze of the woman in the audience
towards the viewer I wanted to describe the expression she had, and the expression of the
performer looking down at her. I chose the second piece, Fog over San Quentin State Prison, San
Quentin, California by artist Sandow Birk, because of the use of light in the painting, and because
of the subject matter the beautiful scenery of the Bay, with a highly populated prison almost just
out of sight behind the fog. I felt that this was a good example of atmospheric perspective and
wanted to expand my understanding of it by studying it. The pieces both relied on light
techniques to make up the composition; Shinn s work heavily utilized chiaroscuro, and Birk s
artwork relied on atmospheric perspective. In contrast with my last formal analysis, liked both
paintings I decided to write about I did this intentionally because I wanted to expand my formal
analysis skills by writing about pieces I felt an emotional connection to, to see if I could ignore my
feelings and concentrate on just the content. This time around, I felt like I had taken enough notes,

Comparison among Payback, ARR and NPV
D J ltd is currently aware of only pay back method of project appraisal and has set a payback
period of 2 years for accepting project. Payback method refers to the span of time within which
the investment made for the project will be recovered by the net return of the project. D J s
payback period option is 2 years, which means within these 2 years the initial investment will be
recovered by means of the net returns to the selected project. The good thing about payback
method is that it is easy to compute and it helps to prevent cash flow problems since money will
be recovered as early as possible. Hence, there are shortcomings of payback period method which
needs to be taken under consideration before sticking with payback method only to choose
project. п‚· One shortcoming of this method is that it overlooks the net income made available by
the project after the payback period. In terms of same payback period, it can result to prefer a lower
profit project.

Technology And Technology In The Illustrated Man By Ray...
Science fiction helps us explore new ways of thinking. It gives us a better perspective on humanity
by helping us see into our past, present and future. The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury is a
collection of science fiction short stories. The author uses stories set in the future that show human
life in the future. He gives examples of innovative technology in every story, but also shows the
reader that technology can be helpful or harmful. From creating a children s playroom to making a
humanlike puppet without strings, the author shows how technology can be used for both good and
evil. For example, in The Veldt and The Marionettes the main characters used it to deceive others.

Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get

The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Mental Illness
Today, a colossal four hundred and fifty million (and growing) people in the world suffer from
some form of mental illness in the world, however, only around one third of them seek any form
of help (who.int World Health Report). This number was probably much lower in 1904, when
this story was written, but I imagine it was also much more shameful and frightening to admit
that you had a problem and needed help with all of the closer knit neighborhoods and insane
asylums that have closed down over the last hundred years. While I read Paul s case, I thought
of a number of things, history of physical abuse or trauma that might have made him shy away
from physical contact, drug use (even one prescribed for a chronic illness or disease,) and that
even a terminal illness had made him misanthropic. Nevertheless, I always came back to mental
illness. The few sentences that solidified my belief were: I don t really believe that smile of his

sixty women were in a Hook Up relationship. The Hook Up defined as a person or persons to have

the same, however, with the turn of a new decade, the names change, but the concept stands as the

Comparing Puck And Bottom In A Midsummer Night s Dream
There are many comedic characters in Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream. A

the play for comedic effects, but both could not be more different. This paper will go through
how they are different and similar, and how they are like the groups they represent. Although Puck

that they are both in the play as comedic characters. You can tell Bottom is a comedic character

how he pulls these pranks to cheer up Oberon. Bottom, on the other hand, is not being funny on
purpose. An example of this is Bottom s idea of having someone play the wall. Bottom states
Some man or other must present Wall. And let him have some plaster, or some loam, or some

Stereotypes By Naomi Wolf
Ever since the past, there had always been gender stereotypes. For an example, during the wars
in America, men who always the one who fought and women would do the clerical and nursing
jobs. But it was also women who filled in the jobs when men were at war. Women are always
judged and taught to look a certain way when they are more than just that. In Naomi Wolf s
essay, she quotes The contemporary ravages of the beauty backlash are destroying women
physically and depleting us psychologically. If we are to free ourselves from the dead weight that
has been made of our femaleness. it is not ballots or lobbyist or placards that women will need first;
it is a new way to see. I agree with her up to a certain point. I believe we need a new way... Show

It is about gender equality and that women should have the same rights and opportunities as
men. Emma Watson s speech mentioned the different gender stereotypes. For an example, there
is the stereotype that men have to be aggressive and strong and that women are weak. Who set
this standard? Men are just as unequal as women are but everyone deserves to be equal. Both
men and women should feel free to be sensitive... strong... Gender is something that is innate and
is out of our control, so why are we judged by something we can t change. Part of seeing in a new
way is to accept people for the way they are. Everyone should go by the saying they learned in

The Uplifting Tale of Today Will Be a Quiet Day Essay...
The Uplifting Tale of Today Will Be a Quiet Day
Some readers see death, but when I read the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day by Amy Hempel, I
find it to be a light hearted, first hand account of people coping with transition. Even its location in
the table of contents under the heading Childhood and Adolescent (Barnet), implies that the story is
not about death at all. A newly defined family, one man, a boy and a girl, is faced with the aftermath
of divorce and explore among themselves the intricacies of life. The story gives us sublime but keen
insight into the transition and adjustments these three people make in this story.
The children s transition is marked by a rivalry, one that surfaces early on in the story and ... Show

There are many inferences to what it is like stepping into the life of a parent you don t live with but
once or twice a month.
This new family is only new in the sense of the father s having questions and doubts. Whether he
doubts his ability to read his children or has been absent too long is not indicated, but clearly this
family seems to be redefining their old relationship. The children handle it a bit differently by
speaking of topics that are old news (such as the boy s friend s suicide), telling jokes, and in the
case of the older sister, showing independence and maturity in deciding to drive her brother and
father home.
Sylvan Barnet comments that the father may be feeling that he may not know his children (1206).
As the story progresses the father gets his answers as many parents would in real life. The father is
an active listener and interrupts, defends or morbidly participates in the fun of his children s
conversation. At times he is reminded of how well he knows his children when he again looses his
appetite watching them eat fast. And once more when he quips, Who would adopt you? This means
that he is stuck with these wonderful children and they are stuck with him.
One of the more poignant moments in the story is when the daughter comes to realize her
gullibility in believing the family dog had escaped death to live a long happy life on a farm
(Barnet 1205). It is important to realize that this new little family is taking care of

How Successfully Did the National Government Deal with the...
How successfully did the National Government deal with the economic problems of the 1930s? In
dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain
was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to
say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a
peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot
the economy and lessen the impact on the people. The National Government were successful in
some aspects of softening the blow in Britain. Faced with a steep decline in international trade the;

In the most direct (and somewhat vague) policy The Special Areas Act of 1934, money was to be
applied to the worst affected areas, but this was dependent on their income and the result was many
of the poorest people did not apply. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only ВЈ2 million.
These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course
of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to
gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain
now found itself in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales
where 33% of men now found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton,
iron, steel and shipbuilding, known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The
coal pits of north Wales were finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near
Newcastle were so bad that the men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It
accomplished very little but to show just how bad the north of England had been hit. The south
meanwhile suffered heavily from cyclical unemployment, wherein the employee would latch onto
short term work, finish the contract and become unemployed and then find something else. But
even then, the unemployment level for the South east never fell below 15% during the 1930s, in

Liver Homeostasis
The liver is an important organ which operates the bodys energy metabolism. It acts as a centre
point to various tissues like skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. Food is therefore digested in the
gastrointestinal tract, and so the glucose, fatty acids and the amino acids are absorbed within the
blood stream. Then these are transported to the livervia the portal vein. The liver is controlled by
insulin and other metabolic hormones. Glucoseis therefore metabolised in to pyruvate through the
process of glycolosis. The pyruvate is then completely oxidised to generate ATP through the TCA
cycle and therefore oxidative phosphorylation happens in the mitochondria.

The pyruvate is then imported in to the mitochondria and then it is metabolized by PDC to make
acetyl CoA. The acetyl CoA is combined with oxaloacetate by citrate synthase to generate citrate.
Then the citrate is exported in the cytoplasm and then it is split in to acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate
by ATP citrate lyase. Oxaloacetate would be reduced to malate which is then converted in to
pyruvate by the malic enzyme which relases NADPH. The pyruvate is then recycled back in to the
mitochondria and it is carboxylated by pyruvate carboxylase to make oxaloacetate and this would

Los Angeles Lakers Case Study
What teams are set to have a big offseason? Los Angeles Lakers The Lakers have let be known,
through their horrendous roster and by vocally stating, they will be extremely active in free

a player to a max deal. Who might that player be? Well, in every team s dream that would be
Marc Gasol but it looks like he s staying put, at least that s the overwhelming feeling. Regardless,
the Lakers are likely to go after a big with a big name. On their list (as well on the list of many
others) are LaMarcus Aldridge, DeAndre Jordan, Kevin Love, and Greg Monroe. Out of all these

After trading Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to Cleveland midseason and shipping of Tim
Hardaway Jr. for Jerian Grant, the Knicks will look to add a guard with both shooting and
perimeter defensive abilities. Phil Jackson and co. will be looking to sign the likes of Arron
Afflalo, Danny Green, and Wesley Matthews. If New York can secure one of these guys and a
big man for the right money, it ll be a successful offseason. Bucks The Bucks are looking to make
a splash at the center position, rightfully so. After losing Larry Sanders to life (in all fairness,
props to Larry Sanders http://www.theplayerstribune.com/larry sanders exclusive interview/) and
their next best big man being Zaza Pechulia, the Bucks will like to add a starter to balance their
roster. Their main target being DeAndre Jordan (but, really, Jordan isn t leaving Hollywood for
Wisconsin) followed by every big man in free agency. They ll be willing to spend big money on
players like Brook Lopez, Tyson Chandler, and Greg Monroe, whereas other teams are less likely
to do so. Which mean the Bucks could make the big splash that they hope to.

Mrs. Wright As A Woman s Culture Of Social Isolation Essay
Mrs. Wright in Trifles, Emily in A Rose for Emily, and Mildred in The Hairy Ape exemplified a
woman s culture of social isolation. Condemned in a house alone to worry only about her wifely
duties, Mrs. Wright s husband isolated her from the community and past self. Pressured by her
father, lover, and her own fear of abandonment, Emily lived a life of isolation from love and her
community. Caused by her many years living in the higher class, Mildred felt isolated from the
rest of society and the lower class. Mrs. Wright, Miss Emily, and Mildred have all been pushed
into seclusion away from general society, in turn causing all three of women to take drastic
measures to break their isolation. The three females in Triffles, A Rose for Emily, and The Hairy
Ape demonstrated the negative effect of social isolation.
Mrs. Wright suffered from social isolation caused by her husband. When Mr. Hale suggested the
family go in with me on a party telephone, Mr. Wright defended himself by saying he only wanted
peace and quiet and seemed to not care what his wife wanted. Even when Mr. Hale explained to
Mrs. Wright the reason behind his visit was to ask about the telephone, she laughed, but then
looked scared. As if she had been conditioned to suppress her true wishes and desires, unless she
wished for grief. Without the agency and ability to reach out to the other women, Mr. Wright
isolated Mrs. Wright from potential hobbies, social groups, and activities. Before she became

Upon completion of traffic school your points will be dismissed and your ticket is considered
resolved. Often times traffic school can even be done online. There is a fee for the driving
school and it is typically the same amount as the fine. Unfortunately you cannot be considered
for traffic school if your violation is a misdemeanor, if it is because of traffic tickets, if it
involved any alcohol or drugs, if you must appear in court, if you were driving a commercial
vehicle, and if you have a commercial driver s license. Types of infractions include parking
where you aren t supposed including red zones and handicapped space, running a red light,
turning illegally, not stopping at a stop sign, changing lanes with no signal, using the carpool
lane with no passengers, no headlights when driving at night, and hitting another vehicle. You
can attend traffic school if you hold a valid driver s license and if you are eligible by the courts
to attend driving school you will receive a notice in the mail with the details. If you ve been have
a traffic ticket that is causing your points to go up, causing your insurance company to potentially
drop you or causing your license to go suspended you should hire a traffic ticket attorney as soon as
possible. As an experienced and knowledgeable traffic ticket attorney, we will help you understand

and participant C is the interrogator (can be a man or woman). In the Imitation Game, participant C
is placed in a different room from participant A and B (they are represented as X and Y). The

tracing back to child slavery how it was created to perpetuate plantation Capitalism. The ideology

Essay On Should Athletes Get Paid Too Much
To be successful in today s society, there is one word that comes to mind, money. Money
controls people, motivates people, and is essentially the drive for many of the decisions a person
makes in their life. The American government does what they can to make success possible for
the majority of citizens, yet over 46 million Americans are living in poverty. How can it be that
the wealthiest nation in the world has so many people living in poverty? What is all of our money
being put towards? While there are many good answers for this question, one is in the corrupt
world of professional athlete salaries. The amount of money put into professional athletics is
unbelievably too much. We have so many hardworking, underpaid Americans who deserve... Show

So it would make sense that these people deserve salaries that put them above everybody on the
wealth scale. These people are required to spend a large amount of money and time to get where
they are, so why do they make just a fraction of what athletes make? To be more specific, an
average doctor has to work everyday for 76 years to make what professional boxer Floyd
Mayweather makes in a single fight, even if he loses. A backup quarterback may never play a
single snap in a game but he still will make three times as much as surgeon on average. If that isn t
enough, how about the fact that in one week the Brooklyn Nets starting five players make just
slightly less than all nine supreme court justices make in a year. There is no doubt that athletes do
spend just as much time and money, if not more, as those who have professional occupations, but it
all comes down to what each occupation group really does for the country. Our country simply
could not function without people like Doctors, Surgeons, Engineers, and government officials, and
while we may think we could not function without sports, we could. So why should a occupation
that does nothing but entertain people make much more than the people that keep the country

The Issue Of Human Rights
Human rights are perhaps the only concept which has remained the focus of many debates in the
modern world. The mere thought that all humans across the world irrespective of their culture,
religion and race are equal and deserve equality is perhaps the reason why it holds such
significance among people. There is something deeply attractive in the idea that every person
anywhere in the world, irrespective of citizenship or territorial legislation, has some basic rights,
which others should respect. (Sen, 2004) It allows each human being the dignity and respect to live
and feel as much important in the world as any other. Similarly to authenticate the respect and
dignity of every individual Universal Declaration of Human Rightsimmediately after its preamble
declares All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights... (U.N) The charter was
drafted keeping in mind the atrocities that occurred during the second world war. It was a solemn
vow that all the nations in the world will ensure such a catastrophe may never occur and that all
shall work together to ensure world peace. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights hoped it
will carry the idea of human rights in to every corner of the world.(Johnson, 2010) Universal
Declaration of Human rights served as the building block on which the frame work for future
human rights was to be built upon. With time other international conventions or treaties were
formulated. This was done to provide a more solid basis to

The supply chain for this family owned business differs from the general wine supply chain

Lewis suggests that choices made on earth have a consequential effect towards our acceptance into heaven or our plummet into hell. In this book pride manifests itself in a hundred subtle ways as souls whine about perceived injustices or irrational motives. Thankfully, a few tourists do humble themselves, become transformed into marvelously real beings, and remain in heaven. But most don t, about which the great Scottish author George MacDonald, Lewis heavenly guide, says, They may not be rejecting the truth of heaven now. They may be reenacting the rejection they made while on earth . George MacDonald the narrator/teacher, from whom Lewis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adoption has brought me through the hands of my birth mother to a mother who has now raised me for 16 years. Conversations with my birth mother result in dramatic feelings for her and for me, tyranny of the past (p.102). But, Lewis suggests in the book that the past is all she (the ghost) chose to have and that it was the wrong way to deal with sorrow . My birth mother could very well be the ghost as I was even an accident . As her memory of me is deceiving and still consuming her thoughts. This maternal or instinctual love is preventing my mother from moving on in her own life. A material mind set is a reality of many entrepreneurs and is well represented in this book through the man with the bowler hat, Ikey. This mans thoughts revolve around providing necessity, But if I can come back with some real commodities...why, at once you d get a demand down in our town (p.13). For a real world entrepreneur, such as Ikey, it would be simple for thoughts to be consumed by opportunism. If thoughts are consumed by need, it leaves less time to reflect on choices and can cause Acedia (restlessness or despair). Lewis makes this point later in chapter six while referring to Ikey, ...still availing himself of every scrap of cover, he set out on his Via dolorosa to the bus, carrying his torture (p.49). Ikey s refusal to rest denies him an opportunity, which any entrepreneur would never give up, but in this instance his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Adaptive Immune System The immune system is split into two groups, innate and adaptive. Innate immunity refers to nonspecific defense mechanisms that, during exposure of an antigen, act at once or within a few hours . Physical barriers like skin, chemicals in the blood, and cells in the immune system that attack foreign cells are examples of defense mechanisms. An antigen s chemical make up is what triggers the innate immune to respond. Adaptive immunity however, is antigen specific, has immunologic memory and consists of responses of both T and B cells. It is more complex than the innate immunity, as processing and recognizing the antigen must first be done before immune cells can be created by the adaptive immune system to attack it. Some governments have been strong and some have been weak in ruling their people. It has been shown throughout history that countries thrived under stronger governments. This is evidenced by such governments as the colonial rule of Great Britain, the Roman Empire, the Chinese Dynasties and the Egyptian civilization. All of these governments had a different way of ruling but the common thread they all shared was that they had a strong central government that ruled to enhance and serve the lives of its citizens. The aim of this paper is not to prove that any one particular mode of government will be best for Cambodiabut whether a Communist backed government is benefiting or crippling Cambodia and it s citizens as a whole. Today the Cambodian people are at a crossroad and currently trying to decide on the best form of government for their country moving forward. There are two major parties trying to prove that their type of government is correct and the best one for the Cambodian people. The ruling party at this time is one known as the Constitutional Monarchy. The Constitutional Monarchy... The other major party, the Khmer Rouge, essentially favors Communism. Levy is shown in some scenes through Cliff s movie. Prof. Levy basically explains that life is a great thing, and it s naturally neutral, but humans inflict their feelings onto life, and humans can live life through making their own decisions and trying to be happy. Prof. Levy says that life is good, morality is man s creation, and that people should strive to be happy. However, despite these positive ideas, the professor ends up killing himself, leaving a note saying I ve gone out the window . This is an incredible moment in the movie, showing that no matter what outlook and ideology a person has on life, sometimes it can be too much. Prof. Levy killed himself because he understood how simple life was. You are born, you survive, you live, you die, and that s it. Humans are not simple, we are born and we survive, yet we seek love and affection, we create bad and good, we create God, we accept God, we accept morality, we betray morality, we are no longer happy, and then we die. Humans make life difficult and complex, and I think Woody Allen uses the professor to show this. Prof. Levy knew this, and so he ended his life because it was the only way to avoid the complexity humans created. His suicide note is simple and straightforward; the way death is. No matter what a person s belief, no matter how simple or complex life can be, death is always straightforward. This whole movie discusses a few lives and the choices they ... This research paper is intended for everyone expected to lead, manage and implement change. It covers every aspect of managing change, including essential principles, managing stakeholders, dealing with resisters, building effective change teams and more. Introduction Significant organizational change occurs, for example, when an organization changes its overall strategy for success, adds or removes a major section or practice, and/or wants to change the very nature by which it operates. It also occurs when an organization evolves through various life cycles, just like people must successfully evolve through life cycles. For organizations to develop, they often must undergo significant change at various points in their development. That s why the topic of organizational change and development has become widespread in communications about business, organizations, leadership and management. Leaders and managers continually make efforts to accomplish successful and significant change it s inherent in their jobs. Some are very good at this effort (probably more than we realize), while others continually struggle and fail. That s often the difference between people who thrive in their roles and those that get shuttled around from job to job, ultimately settling into a role where they re frustrated and ineffective. Until this stage many centuries of state and nation formation have passed. Those centuries were shaped by fragmentation in the form of republics and foreign intervention. In all of these aspects the Habsburg Monarchy played a crucial role. To understand the particular process of state and nation building throughout the history of Europe, more specifically, in the Habsburg Empire the terms nation and state in the modern notion have to be defined. Born on May 13, 1717 she was the oldest daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI. The death of his only son prompted Charles to promulgate the Pragmatic Sanction, an agreement, that was recognized by most European powers by which a female was entitled to succeed the Habsburg Empire. Although the Pragmatic Sanction became the legal basis for a unified Habsburg State, Maria Theresa immediately saw herself under attack. Bavaria, the Saxons and a part of the Bohemian nobility protested against the succession to the throne and demanded parts of the Habsburg Dynasty. As a result, Frederick II of Prussia invaded the rich province of Silesia, belonging to the kingdom of Bohemia, a satellite kingdom of the Habsburg Empire (Palmer et al., 2014, p. 295). As a young queen, she confronted the Hungarian assembled nobles to show her absolute power for the first time, asking for their support in war. Following this, the war ended in 1748 with Maria Theresa loosing Silesia to Prussia whereupon she was recognized by all former adversaries as the Monarch of the remaining Habsburg realms (Heimann, 2001, ... From celebrities to average, everyday citizens a good percentage of ex Scientologist report one or another form of abuse. Firstly, there is the physical abuse which ranges all the way from accounts of Miscavige abuse to other members of the church being forced to attack each other (Childs et al.). Secondly, there is the form of emotional abuse, which consists of being yelled at about sexuality, and being forced to feel like a prisoner or a mental health patient. The Emotional abuse in the church often happens when Miscavige forces staffers to routine checks in which they are forced to spill all their secrets, and if Miscavige hears anything he doesn t like then the people confessing are punished (Childs et al.). The staff members are also prohibited from leaving the church. They work in buildings with individual security guards that follow the person, and there are fences everywhere, as well as cameras (Childs et al.). The Gamble, John Sides And Lynn Vavreck Political campaigning is now the full fledged live version of chess, with pawns, queens and kings, but is all this parading and strategizing actually important? What is even the purpose behind political campaigns; is it to inform the public about a candidate or through clever means to win an election at all costs? The truth of the matter is that campaigns do actually serve an important purpose in the political world of America. Its purpose is to help inform voters about candidates and to improve the number of voters at the polling place. In order for these goals to be achieved there needs to be a clear platform upon which the campaign is built. In the book The Gamble, John Sides and Lynn Vavreck write that a successful campaign takes advantage of the fundamentals, national conditions that set the stage for the campaign, (2). These fundamentals are conditions that the candidate has no control over, like the economy, their opponent, obstacles or opportunities, and how the candidate reacts to them affect their ability to be elected (Sides and Vavreck 2). It is upon these fundamentals that a campaign is built. They inform political stances and future decisions of the campaign, which makes them an important foundation. Though these fundamentals are key to the survival of a campaign, equally if not more so, as Professor David Parker has stated, unless the candidate has name recognition the campaign is a lost cause (Parker, 2016). Withdrawals: We take water out of the system to irrigate crops, to provide us with drinking water and to carry out many of our industrial processes. 2. Discharges: We add substances to the water intentionally or not. As precipitation falls on the ground and moves into rivers and creeks, it picks up a whole range of pollutants. In rural areas these pollutants may include farm pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers as well as wastes from faulty septic systems and improperly handled manure. In urban areas, the pollutants may include gas, oil, pet waste, fertilizers, pesticides, salt and treated human waste from sewage treatment plants. What we do to this system affects everything within it. For example, what happens if rain that falls from the sky or the water that flows through our streams is contaminated? These contaminants may infect plant or animal life including human beings, or reduce their ability to grow and reproduce. What happens if large quantities of water are diverted or taken out of the system? The reduced flow will likely affect the local water supply but it may eventually change the local environment and alter the plant and animal species that are found here. As we place different stresses on this system, we run the risk of altering or overloading it and causing serious harm. The Effects Of Physical Abuse On Mental Illness Today, a colossal four hundred and fifty million (and growing) people in the world suffer from some form of mental illness in the world, however, only around one third of them seek any form of help (who.int World Health Report). This number was probably much lower in 1904, when this story was written, but I imagine it was also much more shameful and frightening to admit that you had a problem and needed help with all of the closer knit neighborhoods and insane asylums that have closed down over the last hundred years. While I read Paul s case, I thought of a number of things, history of physical abuse or trauma that might have made him shy away from physical contact, drug use (even one prescribed for a chronic illness or disease,) and that even a terminal illness had made him misanthropic. Nevertheless, I always came back to mental illness. The few sentences that solidified my belief were: I don t really believe that smile of his comes altogether from insolence; there s something sort of haunted about it. The boy is not strong for one Thing. There is something wrong with the fellow (Paul s Case, Willa Cather). Paul had dramatic changes in mood from one place to another, anywhere art related or the finer things in life created an intoxicating, manic state; the unremarkable had the opposite effect, he became disdainful and lethargic. The challenges these young ladies encounters of attempting to discover and maintain an equilibrium of partaking in an enjoyable sex life while concentrating on their scholastic and professional objectives. Over an entire school year, interviewed by Taylor, sixty women were in a Hook Up relationship. The Hook Up defined as a person or persons to have sex with very little emotional ties if any, or a one night stand. The women that were interviewed attended The University of Pennsylvania, and Princeton University. Hooking Up or previously entitled in the 80 s, 90 s and 2000 s as Just Kicking It , Buddy or Booty Call , the concept remains the same, however, with the turn of a new decade, the names change, but the concept stands as the same, on the other hand with a feminist twist. Men for decades have taken advantage of the Hook Up , conversely over the last decade or so, there have been numerous professional women who have taken control of their sexuality and have been initiating the Hook Up . Despite there being multiple comedic characters, the two who stand out the most are Puck and Bottom. Both characters are in the play for comedic effects, but both could not be more different. This paper will go through how they are different and similar, and how they are like the groups they represent. Although Puck and Bottom are different characters, they have a lot of similarities. The Uplifting Tale of Today Will Be a Quiet Day Some readers see death, but when I read the story Today Will Be a Quiet Day by Amy Hempel, I find it to be a light hearted, first hand account of people coping with transition. Even its location in the table of contents under the heading Childhood and Adolescent (Barnet), implies that the story is not about death at all. A newly defined family, one man, a boy and a girl, is faced with the aftermath of divorce and explore among themselves the intricacies of life. There are many inferences to what it is like stepping into the life of a parent you don t live with but once or twice a month. This new family is only new in the sense of the father s having questions and doubts. Whether he doubts his ability to read his children or has been absent too long is not indicated, but clearly this family seems to be redefining their old relationship. The children handle it a bit differently by speaking of topics that are old news (such as the boy s friend s suicide), telling jokes, and in the case of the older sister, showing independence and maturity in deciding to drive her brother and father home. Sylvan Barnet comments that the father may be feeling that he may not know his children (1206). As the story progresses the father gets his answers as many parents would in real life. The father is an active listener and interrupts, defends or morbidly participates in the fun of his children s conversation. At times he is reminded of how well he knows his children when he again looses his appetite watching them eat fast. And once more when he quips, Who would adopt you? This means that he is stuck with these wonderful children and they are stuck with him. In dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the economy and lessen the impact on the people. These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton, iron, steel and shipbuilding, known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The coal pits of north Wales were finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near Newcastle were so bad that the men announced a march to London, taking several weeks.
