When analysed, most of my respondents were situated between the age of 15-18, this immediately
alerts me that my magazine should be aimed at people within this age range. In contrast to the other
age ranges, which amounted to the age of 21+ the age range of 15-18
dominated the chart. This tells me that UK Hip-Hop culture mainly
consists of this age range, however as it is difficult to generalise for
the whole population, I will conclude that this age range only domin
-ates my sample population.

The most large based ethnicity to complete the questionnaire were
black, therefore based on this information I could suggest that the hip-
hop music culture has not racially moved from its origins, amongst my
sample population. Also the fact that the second most were other shows
that there is diversity within the interest of this genre. Additionally to that
point, the fact that less that half of the sample population were black
shows an consistency throughout e genre, being more universal.
The majority of my respondents were male, this could suggest an
emphasis on hip-hop stereotypical culture, as most are seen to be male.
Connoting the stereotypical qualities such as: aggression and
rebelliousness. This could mean that most of my answers may conform to
these stereotypes.

Do you read magazines, if
“yes” how often?
Daily
Weekly
Monthly
 Out of my sample, 20% agreed that they read magazines daily, meaning that there are not a lot of
willing subscribers within my target age range. This could be due to high cost, or mainly due to the
accessibility of the internet, which means people are able to access certain magazines for free
without payment.
 Following the daily information, a further 34% of my sample respondents admitted to reading
magazines weekly; this could be for many reasons however I feel that it is mainly due to the common
‘weekly issue’ of many magazines, this may be something to take into consideration when making my
magazine.
 When it came to the respondents reading monthly, 13% of them said that they do. This low
percentage number allows me to acknowledge that majority of my target market are common
readers and take interest in magazines similar to what mine shall be.
 I additionally put ‘Only if they are free’ to assess whether money or expenditure had an effect on the
amount of dedicated subscribers. As expected effects were shown from the results as 33% of my
sample respondents stated they read magazines only if they are free. This in turn may have an effect
on whether I will want to put a price on my magazine or not.
 From this piece of information I have gathered that hip-hop is a mildly popular amongst my sample
population staking out 30% when in comparison to other genres such as ‘Pop’ and ‘Dubstep’. This
could relate to other factors such as ethnicity and gender, having an impact on the outcome
however I feel that it exhibits a diversity in general culture, and tells me that I may have to reference
other genres, if I want to reach a wide audience. I could possibly do this through cross-linking two
genres that may fit one artist. For example, the well-known artist Rianna could be seen within many
genres, such as Pop, Trap music and Bashment. This will in turn allow me to broaden my target
audience.

 When I asked my respondents what hip-hop magazines they were aware of, it was clear two major
magazines dominated the responses. ‘XXL’ magazine and ‘VIBE’ magazine both came back from
more than 70% of the respondents. These two magazines are both well-known and I have decided to
conducted a case study on one, this is to gain information and influence on what/how to make a
successful hip-hop magazine.
 When posed with the question of willingness to pay as
expected a vast majority returned answering ‘Nothing’, this
vast majority being half the sample size exactly. However, to
follow this a further 40% stated they would pay £3.99 or
under, this is also they price i initially took into consideration.
How much are you willing to
pay for a music magazine?
£3.99 or

£5 or under
 The respondents for this question gave an open array of answers. Many stated some that were
expected, or already thought of, such as: album reviews, interviews and competitions. However, some
put forward idea’s that I had not acknowledged, for example: upcoming artists, sheet music/tabs and
non-music aspects. I shall take into consideration all of these suggestions and conclude whether i shall
use them or not when designing.
 The respondents for gave answers such as: Pop music, Reggae and even Gospel. It is clear through all these
genres that there is a possible link to hip-hop, and that maybe i shall provide references to these genres to reach
these type of music lovers.
 I asked the respondents to give three words they felt related to hip-hop, i had various responses. Such of:
‘gangsta’, ‘jam’ and ‘beat’. I will take into consideration all these suggestions as i want my magazine name to
relate to hip-hop, and also make sure that the audience feels the title does.
