The author conducted audience research through a questionnaire to determine the target audience and appropriate themes for a short film about rape/sexual abuse among teenagers. Most responses were from 16-21 year olds, but also older family members to avoid bias. The research found that the film should be distributed online and focus on the aftermath of abuse to make audiences more comfortable. Most respondents felt the target age should be 22-30, in line with statistics showing most victims are under 30. The research also highlighted that rape/abuse issues are not represented enough in media and raised questions about how the antagonist should be portrayed.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2. Audience Research The first step in my audience research was finding out who my target audience would be! To do this I created a questionnaire that included questions about the themes and issues of my film alongside some more general questions about social realism and short film in general.
3. Questionnaire As the theme of my film is rape/sexual abuse amongst mature teenagers, it seemed extremely appropriate to aim my film towards those aged between 16 and 21. Therefore I sent out the majority of my questionnaires to those of that age. However, I also sent my questionnaire to older family members to make my research fair and unbiased and to give me an insight into their views on my film and it’s themes and issues.
5. Viewing Platforms In my questionnaire I asked the question “How do you usually watch short films?” This question had the options TV, DVD, Online or Other. The answers I received for this question informed me that I should distribute my film via online video sites such as YouTube or Vimeo.
6. Themes & Issues In my audience research I asked the question “How do you feel about the issue in my film (rape/sexual abuse) and how do you think it should be represented?” This question gave responses such as it is a sensitive issue and one that should be dealt with carefully. Those asked also said that they may feel uncomfortable watching a scene where someone is abused in that way, therefore causing me to change my initial idea and focus my film on the aftermath of rape. This was successful in building my characters and making my audience feel more comfortable.
7. Target Audience I also included the question “What age group do you think a film centred around rape should be aimed at?” to help determine who my target audience would be. For this question 75% chose the option 22-30, four people chose 13-21 and one person 31-40. The answers I received for this question along with the research I did on rape and sexual abuse victims, with 80% of victims being under 30 has informed me that the under 30’s would be the best audience for my film as they are the most likely to be affected by it and so the film would raise their awareness.
8. What I also learned… I also learned that rape and sexual abuse isn’t being highlighted enough in the media and so the awareness isn’t there. Issues regarding the antagonist of my film and whether he should be seen as a criminal were also brought to mind with only a third of my audience saying he shouldn’t be seen as a criminal, their reason for this being that he hadn’t been convicted of the crime yet and so shouldn’t be seen as one.
