Audience Research
   My target audience are males and females aged 16
    to 34.
   They are members of the “Emo” or “Goth”
    stereotyped social group. Who enjoy the Post-
    hardcore Music genre.
   They are my target audience because they will most
    enjoy, and be most likely to watch my product.
   From common stereoptypes, I have learnt that these
    members of the social group tend to enjoy watching
    Horror movies, and dark/sad content that can easily
    be turned into hateful things. This would be
    appropriate to my music video, as the song I am
    covering contains a lot of sad factors.
I interviewed a member of my target audience. It
was a female aged 17 who's favourite music genre
is Post-hardcore.
    Q1. Who is your favourite artist?
A: Mayday Parade

    Q2. How do you know when a new album is being released?
A: Usually the internet, such as forums and by word of mouth.

    Q3. What factors make you decide whether to buy it or not?
A: Because I like the songs, and I like to support the band.

    Q4. When do you buy it?
A: As soon as it gets released.

   Q5. How do you learn of new artists?
A: The Internet, for example, Pandora and Youtube.

    Q6. How do you decide to buy their material or not?
A: If the first song I listen to is good, I will listen to them more, and if like
     them all, I’ll start to buy their content.
Codes and Conventions
Genre:
Post-Hardcore
Codes and Conventions:
Typically the codes and conventions of Post-hardcore music
   videos would be that the video would be based on a sad,
   depressive narrative storyline, with big heavy band
   performances that portray anger sadness and often
   regret.
You would often see angry faces, “Screaming” the lyrics to
   the song, sometimes you would see blood or violent acts
   within the video to demonstrate anger.
However, you would also see a small softer side to the
   subjects of the video, showing that they can also cry and
   have feelings of depression. That is typically what most
   songs of this genre are about.
Regulatory constraints
   Is it legal or considered offensive?
Most videos of this music genre will be often a
  violent and/or depressive nature and could
  cause distress to anyone easily hurt or mislead.
  This means that some videos will have to be
  regulated to stop vulnerable people (Such as
  small children) watching and copying these
  things within the video).
The videos will be regulated in order to stop
  promotion within the video. (I.e, promoting a new
  guitar make or amp make).

Audience Profile and Research

  • 2. Audience Research  My target audience are males and females aged 16 to 34.  They are members of the “Emo” or “Goth” stereotyped social group. Who enjoy the Post- hardcore Music genre.  They are my target audience because they will most enjoy, and be most likely to watch my product.  From common stereoptypes, I have learnt that these members of the social group tend to enjoy watching Horror movies, and dark/sad content that can easily be turned into hateful things. This would be appropriate to my music video, as the song I am covering contains a lot of sad factors.
  • 3. I interviewed a member of my target audience. It was a female aged 17 who's favourite music genre is Post-hardcore.  Q1. Who is your favourite artist? A: Mayday Parade  Q2. How do you know when a new album is being released? A: Usually the internet, such as forums and by word of mouth.  Q3. What factors make you decide whether to buy it or not? A: Because I like the songs, and I like to support the band.  Q4. When do you buy it? A: As soon as it gets released.  Q5. How do you learn of new artists? A: The Internet, for example, Pandora and Youtube.  Q6. How do you decide to buy their material or not? A: If the first song I listen to is good, I will listen to them more, and if like them all, I’ll start to buy their content.
  • 4. Codes and Conventions Genre: Post-Hardcore Codes and Conventions: Typically the codes and conventions of Post-hardcore music videos would be that the video would be based on a sad, depressive narrative storyline, with big heavy band performances that portray anger sadness and often regret. You would often see angry faces, “Screaming” the lyrics to the song, sometimes you would see blood or violent acts within the video to demonstrate anger. However, you would also see a small softer side to the subjects of the video, showing that they can also cry and have feelings of depression. That is typically what most songs of this genre are about.
  • 5. Regulatory constraints  Is it legal or considered offensive? Most videos of this music genre will be often a violent and/or depressive nature and could cause distress to anyone easily hurt or mislead. This means that some videos will have to be regulated to stop vulnerable people (Such as small children) watching and copying these things within the video). The videos will be regulated in order to stop promotion within the video. (I.e, promoting a new guitar make or amp make).
