Atomtronics is the science of creating circuits, devices, and materials using ultra-cold atoms instead of electrons. It compares to electronics by using atoms in an optical lattice instead of electrons in a semiconductor, and a chemical potential difference instead of an electric potential difference. Some proposed atomtronics devices include an atomtronics battery, conductor, diode, and transistor, which function similarly to their electronic counterparts but use atoms instead. However, atomtronics is still theoretical and requires significant development to be realized practically, as atoms are slower than electrons.
