Introduction
The ASSURE model is an instructional guide for planning and conducting
lessons that integrate media and technology while focusing on the learner's
needs. It is based on six classroom procedures that Analyze Learners, State
Objectives, Select Methods, Media, and Materials, Utilize Media and Materials,
Require Learner Participation, and Evaluate and Revise.
Analyze Learners
Learner’s General Characteristics
The instructional unit is designed for an average 7th grade classroom. The
students range from 12 to 14 years old. The students come from various
socioeconomic statuses with 70% of the students being white, while 20% African-
American and 10% Hispanic. 10 of the students are boys, while 7 are girls.
Entry Competencies
The students have knowledge and experience with:
1. Navigating a WebQuest
2. Working with Twitter.
3. Working in small groups to collaborate.
4. Using Blogger.
5. The basic reproductive parts of a flower (Obtained from Day 2).

2. Learning Styles
The students for the most part slightly under their reading level. They do not
respond to oral lecturing and instead prefer audio and visual means as a way to
present and learn material. Most do not test well making rubrics the most
popular means for grading objective achievement.
State Objectives
At the end of this lesson which is estimated to last one class day, the students
will have learned the reproductive parts a flower and their functions including the
pistil, stamen, anther, buds, and pollen. The students will have a basis of
understanding as to how honey bees affect plant reproduction and their
importance. At the end of the class, my students will be able to successfully
name and label the pistil, anther, and stamen of a flower and state their functions
as well as list reasons as to why bees are vital to the pollination process with
100% proficiency.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
The Method chosen for this lesson was large-group instruction followed by
individual work by means of WebQuest with a Blogger response. The lesson will
begin with the instructor introducing the students to the WebQuest and the task
at hand. The teacher will then divide the class into pairs explaining to each pair

3. that they must create a poster based on what they find out from researching
pollination on the WebQuest. The students will then be instructed to post a
response to the class Blogger page after watching a video concerning bee
population.
Utilize Media and Materials
Preview the Materials
The teacher samples the WebQuest and Blogger pages to ensure all links are
working properly
Prepare the Materials
The teacher ensures the computers within the classroom are functional and that
the internet is functioning properly
Prepare the Environment
The WebQuests are loaded onto the computers and the Blog is opened for
responses.
Prepare the Learners
The students are told that they will be learning how bees affect plant pollination
and that they will become Jr. Pollen detectives for the day and are responsible
for informing others as to how plants need bees to pollinate.
Provide the Learning Experience

4. The teacher will begin by explaining the issue of bees and plant reproduction.
The teacher will then walk through the WebQuest step by step. The posters will
be presented in a “call to action” type format so that we as a class will be
informed as to what we can do to help the bees. Following poster presentation,
the teacher will open the Blogger page for student repsonses.

Large Group Activities
After completion of the WebQuest students will watch presentations of their
peers posters.
Small Group Activities
Students will navigate the WebQuest in pairs as well as complete a poster and a
response to some follow up questions on the class Blogger page.
Technology
Students will complete a WebQuest
The class Blogger page will be used after class as a reflection type exercise as
well as a follow up as to what is happening to the honey bees.
The class Twitter page will be used at the beginning of the class as a “bellringer”
to see what was leaned from the previous day’s assignment on Bean Planting.

5. Students’ knowledge of the lesson can be gaged watching their interaction with
their WebQuest partner as well as from their poster presentations.

The students will be asked at the end of the day what part of the lesson they
liked the most and what part they liked the least.
Evaluation of Overall Instruction
At the end of the lesson students will be able to label a blank diagram of the
flower and explain how a honeybee aids in flower reproduction.
