ABSTRACT
Technological endeavours of the 21st century have made available the spread of mobile learning using BYOD
(Bring Your Own Device) dynamic learning environment to enhance interactive learning. Mobile learning
platform called Fishtree, is a website that enables teachers, tutors and parents to create a lesson plan with a few
clicks, and provide learners the opportunity to have a personalized learning environment.

For those who are interested, all they have to do is to choose from the three accounts on the homepage. The
three different packages are available for tutors for $1.99/month, for classes $3.99/month and for the
schools/districts the price is unfortunately not indicated, which made me think that it might be too expensive. Instead
of the price the editors ask that you contact them. Each account ́s features are described in details so it is easy to
decide which is suitable for one ́s needs. If somebody is interested in the website and wants to get familiar with its
content and features, but does not want to pay money, they may use the 30-day trial version free of charge.

Signing up for one of the accounts does not require a long registration, just the most important information:
email address, login name, password and the name of the user's school and district. I have tried the free version with
5 students which is perfect for individual teachers, blended learning or flipped classrooms. After teachers have
chosen the appropriate account, they have to follow 4 steps to get started: create the first class, invite students to join

the class, create their first lesson plan and assign activity.
Fig-2: the 4 steps that must be completed to get started
Creating a class option is available in the teacher ́s profile by clicking on ́create a class button and filling
subject, grade, a standard field that offers two options to choose from, but is not clear why it is necessary. Tokens
are generated automatically by the system which the teacher distributes to students to use it for signing in. They also
have to fill out a few details about themselves: full name, gender, date of birth, email (optional), login name and
password. If the class has already been created it appears on the students profile with the ́Join option. Creating a
lesson plan has never been easier. Teachers have to name the lesson plan and can give a description about it for
future use, so they know what the lesson is about.

Starting to create an objective, a topic or keyword has to be typed and in the lesson editor a text, image,
link, video can be added. Unfortunately, none of the added images could be opened in the free version, but the
videos and links worked properly. ́Generate resources offers several videos, texts from the web that can be added

based on the typed keywords. In the free version the resources were limited to 30 videos and texts altogether and
many of them could not be opened, but the paid version gives access to resources from textbooks, teachers' lesson
plans and even to recently published, trusted resources. However, the free version offers texts from Wikipedia which
is not always a reliable source.
Fig-4: Adding a learning objective
In ́Add Assessment teachers can assign different kinds of tests to the whole class or to an individual. One
of them is generated by Fishtree based on the content and learning objectives (this option is not available in the free
version), the other one is generated by the teacher and offers multiple choice or a drag and drop option and the third
possibility is an open-ended question that students answer with their own words. The assessment is done by the
system, except in the case of the open-ended test that is assessed by the teacher on a 0-100% scale. The results are
summarized in a table and on a pie chart. Students receive prompt feedback on their performance and learning
progress. They can reread the material that caused them difficulties or if they want to have a deeper knowledge, the
teacher can assign them more demanding tasks.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, even if the free version does not provide access to all the resources, one can make a decision
whether he is able to use it for the intended purposes or not. I recommend the website to those who want to
experience this new learning environment and diverge from the traditional classroom teaching. In my opinion, it is
worth trying the free version in order to familiarise yourself with this new learning experience. Those who decide to
enjoy the unlimited access to all features, have to contact the editors. In the 21st century the use of technology is
unavoidable. I would encourage tutors to start using Fishtree website which, not only makes their job easier, but also
expedites the students learning process by making it more interactive and interesting.
