A.S.S.U.R.E Method
A: My class is constructed of 7 girls and 10 boys, all of which have a learning disability. 70% of
the children are white and 20% are African American. 7 students identify with mild to severe
ADHD.
S: The 1st graders will show they know the months of the year by playing games, watching
videos, discussions, and creating calendars. They will demonstrate this in two weeks’ time and
by the end of the two weeks they will know the months of the year with 100% accuracy.
S: My media will consist of a YouTube video of a song about the months of the year to the tune
of the Macarena. They will watch and listen to this song along with looking at pictures that
describe each month. For example, a picture of a heart might go with February. They will play a
game with note cards that have each month written on them, and they will mix them up and put
them back in order.
U: My students will need to put the months of the year in order in a specific amount of time. I
will split up the class into groups and they will compete to see who can do it faster. They will
also listen to the months of the year song everyday if needed.
R: I will walk around while students are working with their note cards to make sure they are on
task and they understand what they are being told to do.
E: During the two weeks, I will evaluate my students on how well they out the month note cards
in order and how well they know the month of the year song. They will know this material to the
fullest extent by the end of the two weeks.
