The document is a production diary for an AS Media student documenting their progress over 25 weeks in designing a music magazine as their coursework. Week 1 During the first week we were introduced into
AS media and our possible coursework tasks.
After discussion we have chosen to design a
magazine. The magazine that we will design
will contain a front cover, a content page and a
double spread article. I have chosen this
coursework option because I will be able to
master and develop my skills in Photoshop as
well as design.

Week 2 During this week I have dome my primary
research in a form of a questionnaire. The
results that I have gotten I have placed into pie
charts, this information I shall use to create my
own magazine. Also I have critically analyzied

Week 3 After completing my questionnaire analysis I
have also completed my rough draft of a front
cover in Microsoft Publisher.

Week 4 During this week I have been focused on
creating the final draft for my content page and
front cover using the information that I have
gathered. I improved my previous draft and
until I was satisfied. I have finished with photo-
shoot, there were unexpected difficulties during
the photo-shoot. I have also included the
school photo library to add to my photo

Week 5 During this week I have started wit front cover
design using Photoshop while following my rough
drafts for guidance. The main problem that I have
encountered was adjusting the size of the image to
fit perfectly. The pace that I was working at was a bit
slower then I expected, this is because this is my
first time using Photoshop,

Week 6 With this being the final week of preliminary task due
to deadline, I have completed the content page and
finished my front cover layout. Also I have
summarized the production of my preliminary task,
this week was challenging to as I had to finish the
preliminary task and do research on the presentation
that I will upload on my blog.

Week 7 After doing my research I have decide to use
Blogger as my blog website, it is easy o use and
design. The design of my blog will be relaxing green
color in the background.

Week 8 After consulting with my professor I have decided
that my final magazine task will be on music
magazine. After I have researched into existing
music magazines I have decided to analyze them in
order to see and compare the conventions and
styles used in different music industries.

Week 9 During this week I have completed comparison
of different front covers and content pages. I
have also completed my research into
publishing companies and magazine
demographics. Using secondary research my
primary task will be to find who my typical
consumer will be. I have decided to use survey
monkey to create survey in order to find my
typical consumer.

Week 10 This week I have finished my target audience
profile and uploaded it onto my blog. I have
also completed my research into music
industry and music magazine publishing

Week 11 I have successfully set up mu blog and I have
finished designing it, using and original image
as my background. I have began with my pre-

Week 12 During this week I have done a research for the
name of my magazine. I have conducted a
questionnaire and decided to use “Horizon
Zero” because it had the most votes in the
questionnaire and it was also my favorite.

Week 13 This week I have conducted a research on
whet to do for my main image and I have
come up with many good and bad ides. The
image that I will use will be related to my
double spread article, for double spread
article I have decided to conduct and
interview.

Week 14 I have finished my pitch presentation, this will
be used to help me sell my magazine since it
answers important questions such as what
type of magazine am I making, and why,
what does my magazine have to offer to
readers. During doing my pitch presentation I
have come closer to realizing what I want to
achieve with my magazine.

Week 15 During this week I have completed rough
drafts for my for my front cover, content page
and double spread article. I have made rough
draft in Microsoft Publisher.

Week 16 I have created my final rough draft front
cover in Microsoft Publisher, taking the idea
from other music magazines, as well as
placement and use of codes and
conventions. I will only place my final draft in
my PowerPoint presentation as it does not
differ much from my first draft.

Week 17 During this week I have finished my final
rough drafts for content page and double
spread article. I will include only the final
drafts in PowerPoint presentation, as
they do not differ from initial designs.

Week 18 I have spent this week with meeting my
topic for double spread article and doing
in interview with my interviewee. I have
asked questions about the band, its
current position, its history and its future.

Week 19 I have gathered with the band and did a
photo-shoot, there were two photo-shoots
with the band, one during their play in
Mala Scena and one during their
recruitment for electronic keyboard.
Before doing the photo-shoot I have
successfully gathered all props that were
needed.

Week 20 This week I did photo-shoot for my
content page, I have taken the desired
pictures, since I decided to have a picture
of a guitar for my front cover, so I have
done a photo-shoot of a guitar from
different angles and positions. I will
decide on a picture for my content page
from this photo-shoot.

Week 21 I have spent this week finishing my front
cover in Photoshop. I have chosen from
selection of image the one for my front
cover, it is a eye-level of a drummer
looking at the camera. After choosing
appropriate image for the front cover, I
have deiced that my color scheme will be
red, black and white as it connects with
rock and metal music.
• Complete final content page design
Week 22 During this week I have worked on my
content page, I did not do any draft, I
decided to aim for the final front cover
from the first try. I am satisfied with my
content page, as it meets al my
expectations.
• Complete final double spread article
design
Week 23 This week, same as the previous two
weeks I have spent doing my coursework
in Photoshop. I finished with my double
spread article design and I am satisfied
with what I have done.
• Begin the evaluation presentation
• Complete the production presentation
Week 24 I have finished with my production
presentation by critically analyzing all of
my draft and finals. I have also include
step by step production of my front cover,
which I have also analyzed. After finishing
my front cover, content page and double
spread article design all that’s left is to do
the evaluation task. I have begun with
gathering data by using a questionnaire
for my target audience.

Week 25 During the final week I have completed my
evaluation of music magazine by answering the
necessary questions required and making the
presentation visually appealing. I have used pie
charts to show a sample of results of my
questionnaire that I have given to my target
audience. This is the final week so all of my AS
Media Coursework will have been uploaded on
my blog.
