In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
                                  Ancillary tasks – Film poster

My film The
poster Proposal
                                                                                                                    film poster

In comparison to The Proposal’s film poster, I particularly think that I have followed the codes and conventions of a Rom-
Com film poster. I used the most traditional colours; black, white and red. I wanted to put a header and footer pattern on
the poster, as it relates to what the character likes, which reflects on the clothing in the trailer. I wanted to put the actress
right in the middle of the page so that she is clearly the main focus. As well as brightening up the hair and eyes. I also have
put the actors names, and director/writer's names at the top of the poster as I think this was the most conventional place to
put them.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
                 Ancillary tasks – Magazine cover

  My Empire
                                                                                                     magazine cover
  magazine
  cover

I have followed the rules and conventions of a traditional film magazine cover. As I researched for a popular one,
I came across Empire. I decided to challenge the conventions and have the title in-front of the actresses face, on
my cover. I decided to do this as I thought it would look better, and more bold. I have inserted another shot, by
the strap-line about the interviews with the actress. As well as having another shot from a photo-shoot and article,
so that I have another actress from another film. I also noticed that Empire doesn’t have a barcode on the
magazine cover, however, I know that there are generally always barcodes on them.
In what ways does your media product use, develop op
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

    Trailer
• I particularly think my trailer challenges forms and conventions of real media products.
I think this as generally, Rom-Com’s have a voice over, narrating their trailer. Where as
mine doesn’t. I particularly didn’t add a voice over on top of my trailer as I thought it
worked well with the sound and editing enough to need one.
• As I didn’t have a voice over, sound was a very important factor towards my trailer. I
also thought that I had a very strong narrative throughout my trailer, so that a voice
over would just clash with it and ruin it slightly.
• I cut my trailer into two. I wanted the first half of the trailer to be where the main
actress gets her heart broken, as conventionally as I could, by phone. So the second
half would be where her ‘boyfriend’ tries to win her back, but fails. That’s why I have
called it the ‘Man Hater’. I think my ideas have developed well throughout the trailer,
as you can see where my ideas collaborate and come together.
How effective is the combination
      of your main product and
            ancillary texts? Film
                                                         poster
• I particularly think that the combination of my
magazine cover, movie poster and trailer work
well together to connote my genre of a Rom-
     Com.
• I think this because I have used the traditional
and conventional colours of black, white and
red within my movie poster and trailer.
• I also think that I have done this effectively
and well by specifically telling the actress what
to where, how to have her hair and how to have
her makeup. I wanted her makeup in the poster Magazine
to be bold and vibrant. As well as her hair being cover
     down, looking sharp.
• However, in the magazine cover I wanted the
actress to wear less makeup, so it is simple, yet
fresh. I also wanted the model to put her hair
up in a bun, as it looks more elegant.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• To get audience feedback, I created a questionnaire for approximately 32 pupils, within
the age range of 12-15. I did this, with the specific age range, as if my trailer was
produced, it would have a 12a-15 certification.
• The questionnaire consisted of questions such as; ‘What do you think I could improve
on?’ and ‘What did you enjoy most?’. I received positive feedback and things that I
could improve on that would boost my ideas significantly.
• Feedback such as; “I really enjoyed the male character within the trailer as I
thought he was funny”. – Hannah Innoles. As my genre was a Rom-Com, I wanted
to add some comical, yet everyday comments into the script, such as ‘How you doing?’
and ‘What you sayin?” as I thought this would appeal to the audience more, as that is
    typically how teenagers talk.
• “The trailer is brilliant! Although, a voice over, instead of the writing pages and
lots of sound would work better”. – Jenny Albinus. I totally agree with the feedback
that I received. I particularly think that if I had the time to work on my trailer again, I
would put a voice over on top to narrate the story.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

When I collected in the questionnaires, I realised that 25 people out of the 32 I asked,
after watching the trailer, would be tempted to watch the rest of the movie . 3 people said
no and 4 people said maybe.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Whilst doing the trailer, I focused on making sure that the genre, a Rom-Com, was really
clear. But I wanted to know what the audience thought, and if it was clear enough. 29
people out of the 32 said yes, and 3 of the people said no.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

What would I change if I started the project again?

• If I was to do my A2 project all over again, I think I would change a number of things.
I think I would change my magazine cover, so that it was more conventional and have
more traditional qualities to it. Such as the colour, as I had pink and yellow which isn’t
very conventional as a movie magazine cover,
• I would also change the setting of my trailer, so it didn’t have the same background in
some of the shots. By doing this, I would go to a cafe or restaurant instead.
How did you use new media technologies in the construction
and research, planning and evaluation stages?

• Whilst creating my media products, I have used a wide range of new media
technologies. For example; I-Movie, Photoshop, Blogger and Slideshare. As well as the
use of the Canon video camera and the Canon digital camera.

• I-Movie was something completely new that I have never used before, so learning to
use it was an interesting experience. I had also never used a video camera before, so
that was something I had to work on too. Although, I have used Photoshop many a
time so that was no struggle to get the poster and magazine cover done. I particularly
thought that Blogger was difficult to use as it didn’t want to upload my products a lot
of the time. However, I managed to get that working which I then, learned to adore.
Technologies to plan
• Microsoft Office – I have used Powerpoint to form
  together my plan of action.
• SlideShare – I have used this form of technology to upload
  my work in stages.
Technologies to research
• Internet Explorer and Google Chrome – Used for
  finding my real media.
• Referenced real media – Film magazines covers, film
  posters, and trailers.
• Blogger – Used to present my research.
• Microsoft Office
• Slideshare – Used to upload my work, so I could present it
  on Blogger.
Technologies to construct
• I-Movie – Used to construct and edit my trailer.
• Photoshop – Used to create my film poster and magazine
  cover.
• Canon video Camera – Used to film my trailer.
• Canon Camera – Used for three photo-shoots, for my
  magazine cover and film poster.
• Microsoft Office – To form my PowerPoint's, containing
  my final products and evaluation.
Technologies to evaluate
• Blogger – I used this website to upload my research and final
  projects.
• Microsoft Office – I used Powerpoint to create my
evaluation, so I could present it on Blogger.

  • 2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Ancillary tasks – Film poster My film The poster Proposal film poster In comparison to The Proposal’s film poster, I particularly think that I have followed the codes and conventions of a Rom- Com film poster. I used the most traditional colours; black, white and red. I wanted to put a header and footer pattern on the poster, as it relates to what the character likes, which reflects on the clothing in the trailer. I wanted to put the actress right in the middle of the page so that she is clearly the main focus. As well as brightening up the hair and eyes. I also have put the actors names, and director/writer's names at the top of the poster as I think this was the most conventional place to put them.
  • 3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Ancillary tasks – Magazine cover My Empire magazine cover magazine cover I have followed the rules and conventions of a traditional film magazine cover. As I researched for a popular one, I came across Empire. I decided to challenge the conventions and have the title in-front of the actresses face, on my cover. I decided to do this as I thought it would look better, and more bold. I have inserted another shot, by the strap-line about the interviews with the actress. As well as having another shot from a photo-shoot and article, so that I have another actress from another film. I also noticed that Empire doesn’t have a barcode on the magazine cover, however, I know that there are generally always barcodes on them.
  • 4. In what ways does your media product use, develop op challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Trailer • I particularly think my trailer challenges forms and conventions of real media products. I think this as generally, Rom-Com’s have a voice over, narrating their trailer. Where as mine doesn’t. I particularly didn’t add a voice over on top of my trailer as I thought it worked well with the sound and editing enough to need one. • As I didn’t have a voice over, sound was a very important factor towards my trailer. I also thought that I had a very strong narrative throughout my trailer, so that a voice over would just clash with it and ruin it slightly. • I cut my trailer into two. I wanted the first half of the trailer to be where the main actress gets her heart broken, as conventionally as I could, by phone. So the second half would be where her ‘boyfriend’ tries to win her back, but fails. That’s why I have called it the ‘Man Hater’. I think my ideas have developed well throughout the trailer, as you can see where my ideas collaborate and come together.
  • 5. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Film poster • I particularly think that the combination of my magazine cover, movie poster and trailer work well together to connote my genre of a Rom- Com. • I think this because I have used the traditional and conventional colours of black, white and red within my movie poster and trailer. • I also think that I have done this effectively and well by specifically telling the actress what to where, how to have her hair and how to have her makeup. I wanted her makeup in the poster Magazine to be bold and vibrant. As well as her hair being cover down, looking sharp. • However, in the magazine cover I wanted the actress to wear less makeup, so it is simple, yet fresh. I also wanted the model to put her hair up in a bun, as it looks more elegant.
  • 6. What have you learned from your audience feedback? • To get audience feedback, I created a questionnaire for approximately 32 pupils, within the age range of 12-15. I did this, with the specific age range, as if my trailer was produced, it would have a 12a-15 certification. • The questionnaire consisted of questions such as; ‘What do you think I could improve on?’ and ‘What did you enjoy most?’. I received positive feedback and things that I could improve on that would boost my ideas significantly. • Feedback such as; “I really enjoyed the male character within the trailer as I thought he was funny”. – Hannah Innoles. As my genre was a Rom-Com, I wanted to add some comical, yet everyday comments into the script, such as ‘How you doing?’ and ‘What you sayin?” as I thought this would appeal to the audience more, as that is typically how teenagers talk. • “The trailer is brilliant! Although, a voice over, instead of the writing pages and lots of sound would work better”. – Jenny Albinus. I totally agree with the feedback that I received. I particularly think that if I had the time to work on my trailer again, I would put a voice over on top to narrate the story.
  • 7. What have you learned from your audience feedback? When I collected in the questionnaires, I realised that 25 people out of the 32 I asked, after watching the trailer, would be tempted to watch the rest of the movie . 3 people said no and 4 people said maybe.
  • 8. What have you learned from your audience feedback? Whilst doing the trailer, I focused on making sure that the genre, a Rom-Com, was really clear. But I wanted to know what the audience thought, and if it was clear enough. 29 people out of the 32 said yes, and 3 of the people said no.
  • 9. What have you learned from your audience feedback? What would I change if I started the project again? • If I was to do my A2 project all over again, I think I would change a number of things. I think I would change my magazine cover, so that it was more conventional and have more traditional qualities to it. Such as the colour, as I had pink and yellow which isn’t very conventional as a movie magazine cover, • I would also change the setting of my trailer, so it didn’t have the same background in some of the shots. By doing this, I would go to a cafe or restaurant instead.
  • 10. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? • Whilst creating my media products, I have used a wide range of new media technologies. For example; I-Movie, Photoshop, Blogger and Slideshare. As well as the use of the Canon video camera and the Canon digital camera. • I-Movie was something completely new that I have never used before, so learning to use it was an interesting experience. I had also never used a video camera before, so that was something I had to work on too. Although, I have used Photoshop many a time so that was no struggle to get the poster and magazine cover done. I particularly thought that Blogger was difficult to use as it didn’t want to upload my products a lot of the time. However, I managed to get that working which I then, learned to adore.
  • 11. Technologies to plan • Microsoft Office – I have used Powerpoint to form together my plan of action. • SlideShare – I have used this form of technology to upload my work in stages.
  • 12. Technologies to research • Internet Explorer and Google Chrome – Used for finding my real media. • Referenced real media – Film magazines covers, film posters, and trailers. • Blogger – Used to present my research. • Microsoft Office • Slideshare – Used to upload my work, so I could present it on Blogger.
  • 13. Technologies to construct • I-Movie – Used to construct and edit my trailer. • Photoshop – Used to create my film poster and magazine cover. • Canon video Camera – Used to film my trailer. • Canon Camera – Used for three photo-shoots, for my magazine cover and film poster. • Microsoft Office – To form my PowerPoint's, containing my final products and evaluation.
  • 14. Technologies to evaluate • Blogger – I used this website to upload my research and final projects. • Microsoft Office – I used Powerpoint to create my evaluation, so I could present it on Blogger.
