This document compares the rabies vaccines Abhayrab and Verorab. Both are purified Vero cell rabies vaccines (PVCRV) produced by different manufacturers. They are indicated for both pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies. The vaccines have similar compositions, dosing schedules, effectiveness and side effect profiles. However, Abhayrab costs less than Verorab and has a thiomersal preservative while Verorab does not contain any preservative.  Protective power is 0.5 lU/ID dose even after exposure for 4
wks at 37C.
Indications:
- Both for PEP & PET.
( PEP-For all high risk group of persons e.g.,Veterinarians,
Municipal workers, Medical and Paramedical personnel,
Forest and Zoo personnel, Hunters, Laboratory personnel
working with suspected Rabies materials and Pet owners)

6. DOSAGE:
PEP-
0.1 ml ID on 1 deltoid on D0, D7,D21/D28.
PET[Updated Thai Red Cross(2-site) Regimen]-
0.1 ml ID on both deltoids on D0,D3,D7,D28.
Drug Interactions:
 Concurrent use of Immunosuppressive agents like
corticosteroids shall be avoided as it may hamper the
development of protective antibodies.

 Severe febrile infection, acute
disease, progressive chronic

vaccination).

vaccine.
