This document discusses articles and possessives in English grammar. It explains that there are two types of articles: indefinite and definite. The indefinite articles are "a" and "an", which are used with singular count nouns that have not been mentioned before. 2. ARTICLES
 An article is a word that used with a noun to
indicate the type of reference being made by the
noun.

3. ARTICLES
There are 2 types of articles : Indefinite Article
: Definite Article

4. INDEFINITE ARTICLE
Indefinite Article are a and an.

5. HOW TO USE A AND AN
We use a and an when introduce something or
someone you have not mentioned before
We use a when the noun you are referring to
begins with a consonant.
Ex. a spoon, a tiger, a book etc.

6.  We use an when the noun you are referring to begins
with a vowel.
Ex. an elephant, an apple etc.
 We use a and an before singular nouns that can be
count
Ex. He has a cat.
This is an orange.

7. Exception
We say "university" with a "y" sound at the
beginning as though it were spelt "youniversity".
So, "a university" IS correct.
We say "hour" with a silent h as though it were
spelt "our".
So, "an hour" IS correct.

8. DEFINITE ARTICLE
Definite Article is “the”.

9. HOW TO USE “THE”
We use “the” with Singular nouns and Plural
nouns and when we have already mentioned the
thing we are talking about.

10. We use “the” before noun that have one thing in the
world
Ex. The sun, the moon, the sky etc.
We use “the” before family’s name, newspaper’s name
and place’s name.
Ex. The Browns (Family’s name)
The Nation (Newspaper’s name)
The Sahara (Place’s name)

11. EXCEPTION THAT NO
NEED TO USE ARTICLE
The meal’s name Ex. Breakfast, etc.
The language’s name and subject’s name
Ex. English, Thai, etc.
The day’s name Ex. Wednesday, Monday, etc.
The festival’s name Ex. Christmas, etc.

12. EXCEPTION THAT NO
NEED TO USE ARTICLE
The Season’s name Ex. Summer, etc.
The city’s name and the country’s name
Ex. Thailand, Texas, etc.
The continent’s name Ex. Asia, Europe, etc.
The sport’s name Ex. Football, Tennis, etc.

14. POSSESSIVES: NOUNS
We use a noun with ’s with a singular noun to
show possession:
Ex. We are having a party at John’s house.
 We use s’ with a plural noun ending in -s:
Ex. This is my parents’ house.

15. POSSESSIVES: NOUNS
 But we use ’s with other plural nouns:
Ex. These are men’s shoes.

16. POSSESSIVES: ADJECTIVES

17. POSSESSIVES: ADJECTIVES
We use possessive adjectives:
to show something belongs to somebody
Ex. My car is very old.
for relations and friends:
Ex. My mother is a doctor.
 for parts of the body:
Ex. She’s washing her hair.

19. POSSESSIVES: PRONOUNS
We can use a possessive pronoun instead of a noun phrase:
Is that John’s car? No, it’s [my car] > No, it’s mine.
Whose coat is this? Is it [your coat]? > Is it yours?
Her coat is grey, [my coat]is brown Her coat is grey, mine is brown.

20. POSSESSIVES: PRONOUNS
 We can use possessive pronouns after of.
We can say: Susan is one of my friends.
or
Susan is a friend of mine.

21. POSSESSIVES: QUESTIONS
We use whose to ask questions:

Whose coat is this? or Whose is this coat?
Whose book is that? or Whose is that book?
Whose bags are those? or Whose are those bags?
