Is Homework Harmful
Homework, homework, homework feels more like stress, stress, stress to students. Specifically,
unnecessary stress due to unnecessary homework. Homework curses the lives of students everywhere,
destroying lives and happiness. Homework looms over students heads, waiting to strike in each class
that it is assigned. Homework is not beneficial because students do not have time for it and teachers
assign it based on amount and not overall quality.
Students do not have enough time for homework. Nowadays students have jobs, extracurricular
activities, and family obligations on top of going to school for seven hours a day. According to John
Rhodes and Jan Wilson, in Student s Perspectives on Homework, they argue students may end up
coming home late from sports and feel unmotivated to complete their assigned homework tasks.
Going from school, wearing students down mentally and then going to a sport, wearing students down
physically, students are completely exhausted and decide that the homework can be put on the
backburner. They either do not do it or give little effort, just to get it over with. Rhodes and Wilson
add that students become stressed from the volume of homework and feel they need down time to
relax after attending school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even from the students perspectives homework is not beneficial for their learning. Igf they do not
believe it will help them what makes them motivated to do the homework. Rhodes and Wilson later
state, Some teachers and entities say that teachers assign too much homework, that teachers
expectations or directions are unclear, and that students give to many handouts. These statements
argues there is too much homework that students can t even complete because they do not understand
what must be completed or that they don t know how to, making homework

The Amazing Platypus Research Paper
The Amazing Platypus The platypus has so many characteristics that even scientists sometimes
wonder how the platypus came about. An example includes how the platypus feeds itself if it has a
beak and claws! Platypuses also have venom, which is extremely strange, but to God, the platypus is
really part of his perfect creation. It seems to be that scientists even think that the platypus may be a
mutation. But it s not. It s part of the wonderful creation of God. This paper will discuss these three
things: how platypuses feed themselves, platypus poison, and the characteristics of a platypus.
Platypuses are odd creatures. They are not your ordinary beaver, otter, or duck. This is because they
seem to be a mixture of these three creatures.

Why Do You Want In Life Essay
Life is full of many choices. Anyone can decide to choice whatever they want in life as my friends
always tell me. I have enjoyed life to its fullest. I have made both bad and good choices. When I
started school I wanted to be a Doctor but as times goes on, I decided that there is no way I can be a
Doctor. I changed my mind from that vision when I saw what Doctors do. In my life, I have tried a lot
of sports, and I can say that soccer is the best and my favorite among the rest. Soccer as sports is the
best among all because a lot of people support it all over the world; it has fewer injuries and also
international competition. Many people support soccer. Soccer has a lot of people support it. Every
country that you will go, you will see soccer pitch like every area. The majority of world populations
follow soccer because it has so many registered soccer players across the globe and it is not surprising
it has support worldwide than any other sports. I love soccer and due to that I always go to the park

Soccer is like everywhere. Every year, there are always competitions. Even in U.S.A alone, sometimes
U.S.A soccer teams sometimes go to different countries to play with them. In 2006, there was world
cup played in Germany. A lot of people all over the world went there to watch their favorite players.
Soccer brings unity among countries. I remember when U.S.A national team played with Ghana
soccer team, a lot of spectators enjoyed it to the fullest. So be frank, soccer provides more
opportunities to compete internationally. Compare to other sports, no all the countries even participate
it and even if they do, they don t compete for anything. This is why soccer is my favorite because it
gives a lot of opportunities to the youth to represent their country and both youth and amateur level. It

The Cause And Effects Of World War I
Cause and Effect Essay of World War I
Many things led up to the start of World War I. There was much tension between the countries of
Europe for more than fifty years. There were immediate causes, and long term causes. Some
immediate causes were the assassination of the heir of Austria Hungry, Germany declares war on
Russia, Germany declares war on France, and Great Britain declares war on Germany. Some long
term causes or basic causes were imperialism, nationalism, and the arms race.
The Axis Powers were the countries of Italy, France, and the British Empire. The leader of Italy was
Vittorio Emanuele Orlando. Vittorio, was an Italian statesman and the prime minister during the
concluding years of World War I. France s leader was Georges ... Show more content on

Imperialism is a country wanting to take over the world and be the most powerful. The need for raw
materials and new markets Europe starts to take over land in Africa, China, India, and the Middle East.
The fight for obtaining the most land results in European countries fighting over who gets what land.
Another factor was nationalism. Nationalism is the love for one s country and feeling your part of the
country. It results in each country claiming that they are the best. The Arms Race is another
contributing factor to the war. Due to conflicts over land, countries start to prepare for and build up
their armies.
The Allies of World War II consisted of, Great Britain, France, Poland, Belgium, Australia, The U.S.,
and the USSR. The leaders of World War II were, Winston Churchill, Charles De Gaulle, Wladyslaw
Anders, Hubert Pierlot, Robert Menzies, George S. Patton, and Joseph Stalin. Winston Churchill, was
the prime minister of Poland from 1940 to 1945. He then served again from 1951 to 1955.
Charles De Gaulle, was the leader of Free France from 1940 to 1944. Gaulle, then died soon after.
Hubert Pierlot, was the prime minister of Belgium from 1939 to 1945. Robert Menzies, was the

America s Justification For Surveillance And Spy Activity
The National Security Agency of the United States has created a confidential surveillance program
named PRISM, operating as the world s largest Planning Tool for Resource Integration,
Synchronization, and Management . This program is designed to gather and process foreign
intelligence that travels through the United States, by extracting data from some of the world s largest
tech companies and its users. The United States describes itself as the Worlds telecommunications
backbone , which was explicitly listed in the leaked PowerPoint presentation of PRISM s operation.
By going undercover and secretively accessing file transfers, e mails, videos, call logs and numerous
other types of data, the United States government is enabling a watch dog on its citizens and creating
the largest terrorist regime. These PowerPoint slides behold some very disturbing information in how
U.S citizens are being deprived of privacy, leading to loss of agency. Restricting individuals to be
watched all the time turns the human race into robots, as individuality is lost, and liberty and freedom
begins to diminish. America s justification for surveillance and spy activity since 9/11 was to fight
terrorism and protect the population, but these documents have nothing to do with capturing foreign
terrorists or improving national security. They are a means of control, and instead of indicating those

The Dilemmas Of Desire In The Franklin s Tale
Genesis Valdez ENG 4120 4 December 2017 The Dilemmas of Desire In Chaucer s Franklin Tale the
plot revolves around a married couple: the knight, Arviragus, his young wife, Dorigen, and a young
squire, Aurelius who importunes and attempts to Dorigen. The characters can be said to oscillate
between desire and their ego honor which affects what they say and do. Lacan s definition of desire
tells us that we desire for recognition from this Other. Our desire is to become what the other person
lacks. Duby s model of courtly love is a concept that focuses on chivalry, nobility and women being at
the center. In this paper, I will examine what the story reveals about the relation each character has to
his or her desire, how they act in accordance to their desire and the role magic or illusion plays in the
plot and how it affect characters relation to desire. In The Franklin s Tale, Dorigen marries Arviragus
and he promises to be true to her and never take an authoritarian role over her. Dorigen promises that
in return she will be his humble true wife and will give him his sovereignty. Arviragus gives Dorigen
power in the relationship and has dominion. Arviragus demonstrates courtly love because he serves
her in a way that allows freedom. The Franklin s Tale states, In such lordship as men have over their
wives; and in order that they might lead their lives together the more blissfully, of his free will he
swore to her as a knight that never in all his life, by day or

Ken Robinson s The Current Education System
According to Ken Robinson, the current education system has yet to adapt to the modern world and it
s different modes of thinking, creating a stand still in curriculum success that is in desperate need of
reform. After explaining how countries around the world want to reform education and carry on
legacies, Robinson makes the case that our current education system is out dated. The current system
was established during the 18th century during the Industrial Revolution, which was based largely on
agricultural and urban advancements. As Robinson mentions, every community wants their children to
be prepared for the current economic opportunities and carry a cultural legacy, but that s hard to do
when our current system isn t cohesive to today s circumstances. People are trying to work out how
we educate our children to their place in the economies of the 21st century. (Robinson, RSAnimate)
There isn t just one issue with our current education system, there s multiple Robinson alludes too.
When we went to school we were kept there with a story which is if you work hard and did well and
got a college degree you would have a job. (Robison, RSAnimate) Today, that is not the case. The
hard truth is that today s students who receive a bachelor s degree aren t guaranteed a job, let alone a
job in their chosen field. Robinson says not only should the structure of todays education system be
examined and questioned, but as well the processes students go thru for learning. For

Essay About Prison Reform
Few states had life without parole (LWOP) statutes before the 1970s, when there was an emphasis on
rehabilitation in criminal punishment and most states used indeterminate sentencing. Judges, prison
authorities, and parole boards had broad discretion in sentencing and release decisions. Life sentences
were parole eligible and either mandatory without a fixed minimum imprisonment term or
indeterminate with a fixed minimum imprisonment term. Louisiana, as an example, had the 10 6 law
(R.S. 15:571.7) from 1926 to 1979 that authorized the warden of a prison and the governor to
commute a prisoner s life sentence after he had served at least 10 years and six months with good
behavior. Throughout and beyond the decade, more states adopted determinate ... Show more content

His claim that nothing works in the rehabilitation of offenders was widely accepted, as many argued
that criminal justice officials could not demonstrate offenders rehabilitation and were biased and too
lenient in the tough on crime movement (Mackenzie, 2001). In Schick v. Reed, the Court upheld a
conditional commutation granted by President Eisenhower (1974). Although the decision discussed
executive clemency, it indirectly supported life without parole statutes to come. The Supreme Court
reinstated death penalty statutes in Gregg v. Georgia on the condition that they provided for sentencing
guidelines, bifurcated trials, automatic appellate review, and proportionality review (1976). Later that
year, the Court declared mandatory death sentences without any alternatives unconstitutional in
Woodson v. North Carolina (1976). In response, states incorporated the aforementioned provisions, or
variations of them, as well as alternatives in capital cases into their new death penalty laws. The latter
stipulation led to a rise in LWOP statutes from the late 1970s to the early

The Importance Of Interdependence In The Bean Trees
Independence is a common societal value in American society. Many feel the need to be able to create
a great life all on their own. The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, however, contrasts independence
and dependence with interdependence, two or more people relying on each other. Kingsolver values
interdependence the most as shown through her characters Taylor, Turtle, and Lou Ann; these
characters all try for independence or dependence before realizing that interdependence is the right
balance of the two. Complete dependence does not work for Lou Ann, who struggles to know who she
is without her husband, or Turtle, who cannot express herself after becoming an orphan. At the
beginning of the novel, Lou Ann says that she and her husband, Angel, ... Show more content on

Here, Kingsolver shows that independence is imperfect because if you make a mistake there is no one
there to help you back up. In the end, Kingsolver proves interdependence is the best way to survive by
showing Taylor, Lou Ann, and Turtle as a family; she also uses rhizobia as a symbol for
interdependence at work. When Taylor and Lou Ann first meet, they instantly find a connection.
Taylor helps Lou Ann to become more confident by encouraging her to speak her mind about how the
door to the strip club makes her uncomfortable. Also, she tells Lou Ann to stop putting herself down
and thinking she is not as smart as Taylor or that Angel left because she got drunk once. In return, Lou
Ann helps Taylor by taking care of Turtle and supporting Taylor as she learns how to be a good
mother. Turtle, as a result of feeling loved and safe within her new family, begins to speak and laugh.
In return, Turtle gives Taylor a sense of purpose. The results of this interdependence are all positive.
Lou Ann becomes confident enough to get a job she loves at a salsa factory, Taylor decides she wants
to adopt Turtle, and Turtle is able to put her past behind her by getting closure with how her mother
died in

Coy Wolf Research Paper
Hybridization of species in the wild is both rare and often unsuccessful. The product of hybrids are
most often sterile and unfit to survive in the natural world. North America may claim one of the most
successful hybrids of this century. The newly discovered coy wolf is a mix between two canis species,
the western coyote and the eastern wolf. This hybrid is also called the eastern coyote or northeastern
coyote. The hybrid did not arise spontaneously. Human s set up the perfect scenario to create a hybrid
from species that would otherwise be allopatric. Humans highly influenced the formation and success
of this hybrid. Without human destruction of American ecosystems, the coy wolf may have never

In the eastern United States, the white tailed deer is so abundant that it is destroying broad amounts of
herbivory. Even after legal hunting season, deer are abundant even near cities. As the coyote migrated
east, the largest and most abundant food source became the white tailed deer. The western coyote
weighs on average 20 40 lbs while the white tailed deer can weight up to 140 lbs. To take advantage of
this food source, a genetic change must occur in the coyote population. With the addition of wolf
DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique of the coyote. The larger body size of
northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The
coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically favorable over coyotes of western decent. The
northeastern coyote or coy wolf became the apex predator of the eastern region over that of the wolf
or western coyote because it is able to live off of the most abundant food source of the region. Wolves
can live off of deer also, but they are not as adaptable to industrialized areas as the coy wolf. This
hybrid can also live off of more than just deer, but almost any small game in the eastern region. They
can also scavenge from the scraps of humans such as garbage and pet

Market Transparency and Consumer Choice for Housing Essay
Since 2006, the number of foreclosures in the housing market has sparked dramatically. This is due to
the fact that banks have given out subprime mortgages or interest only loans to consumers regardless
of their credit score. One of the main reasons why banks did not care about consumers credit history is
because they resold the loans as mortgage backed securities. This caused the loans to fall into the
hands of credit rating companies that rated the loans too positive; thus, these assets were expanded and
helped lead to the foreclosure crisis without hurting the banks directly. The goal was that banks lustily
sought the big payoff that these mortgages could provide. The mortgages and loans let low income
consumers pay only a low rate of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So far, as a result, foreclosures are decreasing and the mortgages are becoming more affordable, but
job creation and transparency in the market has not occurred, so the crisis continues.
Fortunately, job creation is projected to increase by this spring due to the passing of the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act dubbed the economic stimulus to pull us out of the recession and
create jobs; therefore, new job growth will help citizens pay their mortgages and lower foreclosure
even more. Despite all of these laws, there still remains one vital part to ensure the stability of our
financial system: transparency. Congress has proposed a financial overhaul bill that would enforce
new rules and regulation to the industry, but the downfall of it is that it would hinder needed economic
growth in a time of feeble recovery. So I propose creating an internet portal administered by the
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The government would then require banks to put the
address on the top of every loan application to ensure consumer awareness of the address. The portal
or website would allow consumers to create a profile and input a basic credit history. The employees
at the Department of Housing and Urban Development would then perform calculations about the type
of loan, the ability to refinance and buy a home, the risk factor for different types of loans, the
outcome of the housing market in the future, and a background check on every bank in

Cocain and amphetamines are Addictive and Dangerous Essay
Cocaine and amphetamines are highly addictive and dangerous drugs that have affected our society
today. There have been various forms of cocaine and amphetamines that have become popular and
abusive throughout the United States. The forms of cocaine are: powder and crack, and these two
forms are seen as highly dangerous to the individuals that abuse it. Also, there are several types of
amphetamines which have been noted to be just as addictive and dangerous as cocaine. In this paper I
will briefly discuss the different forms of cocaine and amphetamines as well as discuss the treatment
options used for individuals with cocaine and amphetamine abuse.

Methylphenidate brand name is Ritalin and Concerta and the slang name is Vitamin R. Lastly,
Methcarthinone, which is mostly used in Africa, slang name is cat (Drug use and abuse, 2011, p. 120).
Even though medically used amphetamines are used to calm children diagnosed with attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), they are still considered to be an addictive and a quite dangerous
stimulant (Drug use and abuse, 2011, p. 120).
According to Emrick, Lassen, and Edwards (1977), the treatment options that are available for
individuals addicted to cocaine or amphetamines would consist of peer self help groups (Drug use and
abuse, 2011, p. 372). It was stated by Regier et al., (1993) that a national survey showed over 1.5
million individuals in the United States using self help groups to overcome their drug abuse (Drug use
and abuse, 2011, p. 373). In the self help group, the individual must first be ready or motivated to
make the changes before attempting to join. There are also professional drug rehabilitation facilities,
but not all individuals are able to afford to attend those costly facilities.
In conclusion, the different forms of cocaine and different types of amphetamines are all considered
addictive and dangerous to our society. Even though, there are medicinal uses for cocaine and
amphetamines, there are side effects that can make life for the individuals

The Goals For The Millennium Development Goals Essay
189 United Nations Member States agreed to achieve 8 goals for The UN Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs) from 2000 to 2015 for fighting poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental
degradation, and discrimination against women in the word. In addition, tuberculosis (TB) was also
the sixth goal of MDGs leading cause of death worldwide. The WHO estimated over 9.6 million
people fall ill with TB in 2014: 5.4 million men, 3.2 million women and 1.0 million children.
(WHO,2014)
Tuberculosis (TB) was identified as a highly infectious disease, was transmitted primarily via
inhalation and caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). After inhalation, MTB came into lung
before ending up in alveoli where macrophages recognized and destroyed tuberculosis bacteria.
However, macrophage cannot kill all of MTB so the survivors infected and hijacked macrophage.
Amount of MTB also increase continuously until bursting the macrophage leading to cause further
infection and extracellular bacilli. Overtime, the mixture of blood and sputum in lungs tuberculosis
was formed when the centers of granulomas necrotize was infected by MTB. (Niemi, 2014)
Therefore, antimicrobial agents were used in the treatment of TB including TB treatment and
antimicrobial activity such as isoniazid, pyrazinamide and ethambutol for initial regimens; and
capreomycin, viomycin or cycloserine in recent years. There were some drugs were used for
indication including rifamycins, aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones.

The Strengths Of District Assessment
Dr. Myers gave me the state aid formula as the total district assessment times 0.025 times 98% plus
miscellaneous funds divided by ADM (Average Daily Membership). The district obtains its money
through federal, local, and state funds. However, he did not share these amounts with me. Through
looking at reports on our schools website, I determined that our local revenue was $1,875,000, state
revenue was $1,395,105, and federal revenue was only $365,783. The general strengths of the district
funding is through local revenue collection. Our local collection is very high. Our district receives
roughly 55% of its funding from local taxes, which is higher than the state average of 35%. We do not

to justify why and then Dr. Myers will assess if the district has the money. However, the principals are

Business Monitoring For Field Service
In an era of deregulation and increased competition, service companies must provide prompt, efficient
service that their customers will not risk losing. To optimize return on fleet assets and valuable
technician time, fleet managers need to maintain service units in top operating condition, and have
instant visibility into their locations and availability at all times.
Your technicians are certified professionals who are experienced in their fields, not professional
drivers. Yet many service companies expose themselves to the risk of dangerous, costly and reputation
ruining collisions by putting technicians who lack professional driving training behind the wheels of
their service vehicles or vans.
Faced with dense dispatch schedules, technicians are tempted to cut corners on safe, fuel efficient
driving in hopes of keeping on track. Driving incidents and citations cause further delays and increase
costs for insurance premiums, vehicle wear and tear, liability, and fuel as well as damage to the
company s reputation. Yet for too many companies, improving driving behavior is merely an
afterthought. This is one facet of business monitoring for field service organizations that most CEOs,
CIOs, COOs and managers don t pay enough attention to. Considering the cost of one safety related
event, why?
Let s look at the data. On average field service technicians spend roughly 35% of their time on the
road, yet they aren t professional drivers. Additionally, according to

Analysis Of The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt
The Good of Human Nature
The Man in the Water , by Roger Rosenblatt, tells a story of how a man gave his life to help four other
strangers survive. An airplane clipped a bridge and took a dive into the Pontiac river in Washington
DC. There were five survivors left clinging to the tail section of the airplane, when helicopters and
boats reached them. The best we can do when faced with adversity is to display the good nature in
ourselves. Our man in the water , put his life at stake. Every time the rescue team lowered a lifeline
and floatation ring to the man, he gave it to the other strangers. For at some moment in the water he
must have realized that he would not live if he continued to hand over the rope and the ring to others.
When our man in the water realized that he had to choose between life and helping the strangers, he
picked the more honorable decision, thus responsible for helping save four lives for the price of his
own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only thinking about yourself and not thinking of the effects. But, the thought is still there, and if we
are all capable to listen to the thought, and do the best decision with the best outcome.
This inspired people who witnessed it to be the best person that they can be, despite being faced with a

This opened the nations eyes. Seeing how courageous and selfless this action was shocked them. His
anonymity showed us that his motive was not driven by fame and glory with a hero title, but it was his
good nature to give of himself to others for no glory or self pleasure at all was

Summary Of Cimorene s Dealing With Dragons
In Dealing with Dragons , Cimorene is not the princess she s expected to be. Due to this, her
contemptuous behavior eventually left home for another life that may be more genial. Cimorene had
the right to leave her monotonous life for another one because she was treated unfairly and now
allowed to do things she couldn t, have a different lifestyle, and endless opportunities laid out for her.
First off, she could do things a princess wasn t normally allowed to do and wouldn t have the restraints
that her parents and her role as a princess had. For example, the lessons she had had to take to learn
the proper behavior of a princess (p.2), along with the fact that she wasn t allowed to participate in the
activities she wished. These problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to her nature, she could accomplish many tasks, unexpected from women at the time. She was
able to become a dragon s princess to escape her life as a princess for another that is more adventurous
and interesting. She also had the opportunity as a dragon s princess to do things that she liked, such as
making cherries jubilee, practice magic and help organize the Latin scrolls Kazul had (p. 19).
Cimorene and a group consisting of Alianora, the stone prince, and the witch Morwen set off to stop
Woraug, the insolent and malevolent dragon, and the wizards from taking both the Caves of Fire and
Night and the position as King of Dragons. She and the group soon reveal them as thieves, whom had
attempted forging the stone used to determine king, saving the magical kingdom from the threat the
wizards. Had Cimorene not chosen to be the benign dragon s princess, Kazul, the Mountains of
Morning would have most likely been destroyed by Woraug and the wizard s sinister and baleful
schemes. (p. 200 201). Woraug was caught and began to implore Kazul to not believe Cimorene and
the others before being reprimanded. Soon he transformed into a toad for acting unlike himself and
undragon like. The dilemma was solved and those involved parted ways and continued to live the life
of their choice. These were things she would not be able to do, had she not

The Tragedy Of Timothy Lawrence
There was no question about it. Helios was doomed.
Timothy Lawrence could feel the massive space station shudder as it started to be pulled towards the
surface of that hated planetb Pandora. As soon as he saw Jack s face appear on all the monitors in their
apartment he had gone to his computer to try to get the digital man s attention. Thus far, he had been
unsuccessful and now, for some reason, Helios was going down.
He cursed loudly as he typed frantically at the terminal s keyboard. Jack. Jack you ASSHOLE. Answer
me! Never before had he regretted not learning more about computers than he did right now.
The monitor blipped on with that strange image of his departed lover he had seen elsewhere in the
station. He all translucent and blue, like the digitized versions of himself he had given Tim to use in
combat so many years ago.
Timothy, Jack s large, expressive eyes widened. Baby, Oh my god. I am so glad to see that you re
alright, Kitten. Holy shit, you look different.
Leave it to whatever this version of Jack was to be concerned at such a time with how different his
body double looked. He no longer wore the mask that made him his partner s double. The very bolts
that held it in place had been removed, leaving pink, scarred flesh in their place. As he was quite a bit
younger than his lover, he had always had to dye in the streaks of gray into his otherwise brown hair.
With Jack absent, he had stopped doing so. That, and he had cut his hair into a short

My Reflection Of Skype
Skype Reflection I will start by saying that our conversations with everyone over Skype has been my
favorite thing I have had the pleasure to do since I have been in college. It was different, informative,
intriguing, and easily the most interesting exchange I have ever had. I not only appreciate having been
given the opportunity to be a part of this conversation, but feel fortunate to have taken part in learning
about others and their way of life. After speaking with Chris Saunders and Panos and Stefania, I re
read Hofstede s dimensions and felt I learned more and understood it better after speaking with them. I
feel that I can read something repeatedly, but having a good example and seeing it first hand is the
best learning experience I can have. To have a good take away from the book with an even better
example was the best way to learn this subject. When speaking to Chris Saunders from Wales and
England, I first noticed that he seemed as nervous as we did. He was able to answer our questions with
great content and was really funny. I felt that he had a great amount of individuality and held true to
his own beliefs. I also feel that Chris showed that he fits into the masculinity dimension as he is
successful as a writer and driven as a teacher. Since he has moved around so much, he shows that he
personally has a low uncertainty avoidance, as he can take risks and is less resistant to change. An
example of this is he was able to move to China, not knowing much about the culture or the language
and take the changes as they came at him. When it came to talking to Chris, I think what surprised me
the most was that there is a gap between 16 and 18 from what we would call high school to college. In
the United States kids wouldn t know what to do with themselves and I can t imagine what kind of
trouble they would get into. It also surprised me that he has lived in so many places. He has had the
opportunity to learn so about so many cultures and meet so many people and that is incredible. My
impressions of Chris were that he is very intelligent and funny. He has a great sense of what he wants
in life and is able to accomplish those goals. Because of his individuality he is able to make his own
choices and do

Upon first glance of this image, a large shark is displayed that is enclosed in a rectangular tunnel like
space. It is unclear where exactly this space is located, however it is most likely not in an aquarium
because the space is too small and there are no other fish, marine like organisms, or marine
characteristics around the shark. The shark is probably dead and preserved to be up on display because
of the way his mouth is open and because of the white paneling surrounding the space he is confined
to. Considering that the shark is in a museum, there must be something remarkable or idiosyncratic
about him, such as his size, breed, capabilities, or place of death. Upon second glance of a more

grasp or relate since their own death has not been reached. While humans may mentally comprehend,
relate to, and be able to view death of living things around them, they are unable to completely know
what it is physically like, which is portrayed in Damien Hirst s work The Physical Impossibility of
Death in the Mind of Someone Living. The title of his work gives more meaning to the artwork itself,
which applies to titles of other pieces of art, poems, books, or movies, as well. Many people say not to
judge a book by its cover , which is actually partly true. Giving the work a quick glance or just a look
at the title is clearly not a fair way to judge, however the title is important because it gives way to
what the creator was attempting to portray. The shark in the museum and its title both allow people to
decipher what the shark itself and the title mean in various ways; however, if it was just the shark, the
artist s purpose would definitely not be depicted as well. At first glance, one may believe that the
shark is in the museum because of something special about him, such as his age or any other
specialities. Once the title is read, full meaning is given to the work and individuals see that the artist
actually created it to portray the reason that death is incomprehensible to living individuals. The role
of titles is not only important to

Essay John Locke
In this essay I argue that the late philosopher Locke has the most compelling theory of metaphysics.
First, I explain Locke s point that all humans are born as Tabula Rasa, in order to gain basic
understanding of where Locke begins his theory. Second, I discuss how Locke argues how we obtain
knowledge, empiricism and representationalism, and knowledge about the work varies between strong
and weak inferences. Third, I will provide counter examples to Locke s ideas, and will explain why
these counter examples work for Locke s theories provided. Finally, I address some of the ways that
Locke might respond to my objections. The following paragraph will be used to define and understand
the concepts of the following key terms that Locke uses: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Locke furthers his own theory of this by stating that humans are not born with innate ideas (Matheis).
With what Locke states, we as humans can reason that we are born without any knowledge and
everything that we learn is put onto our blank slate. The Tabula Rasa is important because it also gives
us a basic understanding to Locke s later arguments and theories. Locke argues that if we all had an
innate idea we wouldn t need to use reason to discover them because they would already be present in
the human mind. Although, Locke s idea about blank slates is a very logical idea, there are a few flaws
within. Innate knowledge, which was produced as an idea from Plato states that we already learned
everything prior to being born, we are just simply experiencing and recollecting knowledge from our
soul that we had before our physical birth. Plato was not the only philosopher that supported the idea
of innate knowledge. Descartes also believed in innate knowledge over the Tabula Rasa, he believed
in the innate ideas of God. Kant also believed that we had a sense of time, space, causality and
comparison from innate knowledge (Al Rodhan). Locke then goes further into his theory by stating
that all knowledge begins with sensory experiences. Locke states that everything that is learned from
our experience with objects. Since we are born as a Tabula Rasa we know nothing, so knowledge is
the most valuable key. Locke

The Function Of Insulin Or Rapid-Acting Insulin Analogs
insulin or rapid acting insulin analogs Preparations included with phenolic excipients serves two
purposes: retaining solution sterility and stabilization of the insulin molecule in the hexameric form to
avoid aggregation(35). These compounds are may cause problems since they are proved to be toxic
and irritant, and are being investigated for their role as sensitizers and carcinogens (36).
Generally the human insulin monomers may assemble into insulin dimer and insulin hexamer which is
more stable than that of dimeric form. Regarding the main function of insulin which is regulating the
uptake of glucose, both insulin dimer and hexamer are inactive in biological environment. However
they are much more stable from conformational viewpoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When phenolic preservatives were depleted insulin glulisine dissociated or broke down from a
structure with higher molecular weight (hexamer) structures into a number of intermediate molecular
weight one, usually between monomer and hexamer, whereas insulin aspart and insulin lispro
separated into monomers and dimmers. The ultimate disintegration of Insulin lispro and aspart was
due to the large extent of their dissociation when they were depleted of their excipients while insulin
glulisine was dissociated to intermediate molecular weight molecules in the absence of the phenol and
m cresol (39).
In general they concluded that insulin degradation was inversely related to the concentration of phenol
and m cresol as phenolic preservatives.
Tissue response and inflammation (cytotoxic effect of insulin with and without excipients)

Weber et al explored these markers to investigate whether the phenol and m cresol could cause the

insulin they selected monocytic cell line THP 1. The mentioned cell lines were exposed to sub toxic
concentration of phenol and m cresol as well as insulin analogues formulation for 24 hours. Since they
found that insulin with

Hurricane Mitch Effects
Introduction Natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, seaquakes, and volcanic eruptions are
all events that frequent the country of Nicaragua and its neighbors in Central America and the
Caribbean. But one of the most devastating natural disasters to affect the country, Hurricane Mitch,
has had a lasting effect on Nicaragua. There was an approximate of 3,000 deaths, 1,000 missing
persons, 900,000 injured persons. The hurricane caused damage to 50,000 homes, 340 schools, 90
health care centers, 40 health posts and 6 hospitals across the country (Christopolos, et al, 2010). This
paper will examine the conditions of Nicaragua before and after Hurricane Mitch and answer the
question, what man made factors played a role in the severe devastation of the country? First, the
paper will discuss the major hazardous natural events that occurred in the wake of Hurricane Mitch
and their effect on the country. Then the effect of human influence in geography, politics and social
structure will be analyzed. Finally, the paper dissect the socio economic effect Hurricane Mitch had on
the country of Nicaragua.

The s Portrayal Of The Vampire
Vampirisms Portrayal
Many years ago in Wallachia, Romania, there was a price by the name of Vlad III Tepes. This man
was seen by many people of Romania as well as other parts of Europe, as a hero for his protection of
the north and south Romanians in which he was later recognized and honored in his leadership. At
first, he had many followers, but then they started to fade due to his practices of impaling his enemies,
he was labeled The Impeller. His reputation started to grow in a negative way because of the excessive
cruelty. This excessiveness of cruelty against his enemies cause a lot of blood shedding in which this
started the beginning of the vampire myth.
Throughout time, we can see that the myth of vampires has not only stayed in Romania. We see it in
literature dating back to the very beginning or discovery of this creature through the cruelty of Prince
Vlad III. However, the portrayal of the vampire did not stay the same as time went by. The portrayal
of vampirism has come long ways and changed as society did. The specific roles and details of the
vampires are crafted in relation to what society wants. However, the symbolic meaning behind the
vampire stays the same even if their role has changed; they represent what we both fear and desire as
humans: beauty, strength, and immortality. I will be analyzing the different representations and
treatments of vampirism in three different books, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Madness of Angels by Kate
Griffin, and Fledgling

Food Deserts- The link between income and access Essay
Food Insecurity and food accessibility are major problems not only in rural areas but also low income
urban areas throughout the United States. The term food desert or an area with limited or no access to
healthy, affordable and nutritious food was coined during a U.K. Study into food accessibility for
those in the lowest income neighborhoods which contained no major grocery store and had the lowest
rate of car ownership. This problem has come across the pond and we ve seen many major grocery
retailers flee from cities and move to the more profitable suburbs, what s worse is as grocery stores
consolidate they leave many neighborhoods under served by convenience stores or fast food outlets.

One significant effect of lack of supermarket access is its negative impact on diet. If a significant
portion of the people on public assistance cannot afford to eat healthfully and furthermore do not have
the ability or the nutritional education necessary to live a healthy lifestyle this has immediate effects
on the growing epidemics of obesity, heart disease and other lifestyle related illnesses and on the
health system that is already at capacity.
Three key elements are described in Sparks piece: proximity, variety and competition. Proximity is
important because research shows low income people are less likely to own an automobile. Variety is
important because research into retail choice suggests people value variety and do not always shop at
the supermarket that is closest to home (Handy,1996). Finally, competition is an accepted price control
mechanism, which is important when evaluating access for low income populations. (Sparks). These
are described as the most important factors because they will play biggest role in where a person
chooses to shop for food given the choice.
Not all the experts agree however that the prevalence of fast food and the limited access of fresh food
is the driving factor in the rise of obesity. A study conducted by the RAND corporation a non profit
federally funded research center recently released a study that found that among adults the
neighborhood food environment had little or no relation to the adult subjects

There were also millions of immigrants added to the workforce. When that many new workers were

Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor.
Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing
costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers.

Taking a Closer Look at Prison Gangs
Prison Gangs Ever since the creation of the first prison gang the Gypsy Jokers , gangs in prisons have
been a handful for officials trying to provide safety and security not only for corrections workers but
for inmates as well. Prison gangs have been responsible for carrying out any number of illicit activites
behind bars, these include but may not be limited to: gambling, drugs, protection, and prostitution
(Knox, 2012). Over the years research for prison gangs proves difficult because of the secretive nature
behind these organizations, but there is new evidence being brought to light that is helping combat
these illusive and lucrative criminal organizations. There are currently 150,000 incarcerated gang

A study done in 1996 on prisoners of the Arizona Department of Corrections, followed inmates for the
first 3 years of their incarceration. This study found that inmates with no gang affiliation were
significantly less likely that those wit either street gang affiliation or prison gang affiliation to have
been guilty of a violent misconduct (Griffin, 2006). Also noted in the Griffon study, inmates who have
a gang affiliation are less likely to participate in needed rehab and vocational programs that may help
them upon release. A big problem with prison gangs is that very little is known about them, this is
because they are very secretive, unlike their counterparts on the streets (Fong, 1991). The reason for
this secrecy is so gang members can avoid being persecuted by the prison administration. Over the
years prison officials have come up with different ways to handle prisoners in gangs, one method is
called jacketing. Jacketing is when an inmate recieves a mark on his record, or his jacket , that marks
him as a gang member. From there an inmate can be moved to a higher security prison or a different
housing unit if officials felt it was needed (Hunt, 1993). A problem with jacketing is it can be used by
prisoners to get someone moved that they don t like, by simply going to a supervisor as a confidential
informant and pointing someone out as a gang member. Another popular form of gang control is

The Is An Individual Feel Expressed
Overgeneralizing is thinking that there is a pattern happening after only one event and/or being overly
broad in conclusions. Overgeneralizing can make an individual feel stressed. Feeling stressed can
cause negative thoughts, which will cause negative performances. With overgeneralizing comes
neurotic perfectionism. Since the athlete is not getting the results they want right away, they start to
believe that they will not get the outcome they would like to see. For example, if an athlete does not
perform as well as they thought they could in one practice, when they usually perform very well, they
may come to a conclusion that nothing is going right and nothing will go right. They will begin to
determine that they are not going to play in their upcoming game just because they practiced poorly
once. This can begin to cause stress on the person, which will mentally weaken their performance.
Although I am not involved in a sport here at Drake, I found overgeneralizing in myself when it came
to academics. I did poorly on one of my first tests this semester, and I started to overgeneralize and
begin to think that I am going to perform poorly on all the professors exams because I did poorly on
one. This caused my body a great deal of stress and caused me to do just about the same on the second
test. Once I started to look at the whole picture, I began to stress less and perform better on their
exams. If an athlete is feeling the same way about their sport as I did about my

6 Ways Successful Teams Are Built To Last Glenn Lopis
It takes great leadership to build great teams.Leaders who are not afraid to course correct, make the
difficult decisions and establish standards of performance that are constantly being met and improving
at all times. Whether in the workplace, professional sports, or your local community, team building
requires a keen understanding of people, their strengths and what gets them excited to workwith
others. Team building requires the management of egos and their constant demands for attention and
recognition not always warranted. Team building is both an art and a science and the leader who can
consistently build high performance teams is worth their weight in gold.

Building companies requires the know how to build long lasting teams. This is why most managers
never become leaders and why most leaders never reach the highest pinnacle of leadership success. It
requires the ability to master the art of people and knowing how to maneuver hundreds (if not
thousands) of people at the right place and at the right time. It means knowing how each person thinks
and how to best utilize their competencies rightly at all times. It s playing a continuous chess match
knowing that every wrong move that is made can cost the company hundreds of thousands, if not
millions of dollars (just ask BP and Enron).
As you evaluate the sustainability of the team(s) you lead and its real impact on the organization you
serve, here are six ways successful teams are built to last:
1. Be Aware of How You Work
As the leader of the team, you must be extremely aware of your leadership style and techniques. Are
they as effective as you think? How well are they accepted by the team you are attempting to lead?
Evaluate yourself and be critical about where you can improve, especially in areas that will benefit
those whom you are a leading.
Though you may be in charge, how you work may not be appreciated by those who work for you. You
may have good intentions, but make sure you hold yourself accountable to course correct and modify
your approach if necessary to assure that you re leading from a position of strength and

Alex Parrish Vs Beowulf Research Paper
Every story has a hero, because of that heroes come in all different shapes, sizes, and walks of life.
Even though every hero has different characteristics that make them a hero, there are a few
characteristics that put a hero above any other and makes them great. Even though Beowulf is a great
hero in his own respects, Alex Parrish, from Quantico, makes a better hero due to her modesty,
courageousness, and intelligence.
One good quality of a hero is their humility and modesty, Alex has both, while Beowulf has neither. In

Making no excuses for the Aquino administration because like said, they should ve been in full control
the moment the hostage crisis started but in reality they are also inheriting a poorly trained and

forward to acquiring, at American expense, an all weather road that would hold great commercial
value for the region in the post war. Worries of sovereignty were not the priority at this point in time
as the fate of the war still remained unsure in early 1942. In addition to the expected post war
economic benefits, the American presence served the wartime strategic aims of both the American and
Canadian Governments, as they urgently sought the continent against the possibility of encroachment
from both the Western threat of Japan and the eastern threat of Germany. This was particularly true
until 1943, as the fate as the war still uncertain. As the war began to strongly favour the Allies, the
Canadian government was able to re address concerns such as northern development and increasing its
involvement in north west defense projects. Until the end of the war, Canada maintained a policy to
mitigate potential issues arising from the continued need for continental defense projects that would
result in American presence within Canadian boundaries. The war years were an opportunity for the
Canadian Government to prepare itself for a post war reality, where the Canadian North would remain
a strategic location in a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United

Stereotypes In African American Films
Throughout this chapter, Korgen main arguments pertained to the media s portrayal of Black and
White biracial characters in movies. Typically the media portrays people with lighter skin to have
more positive characteristics while people with darker skin more negative characteristics. Media is
one first place young children get these images from and it can have a huge impression on them
without even knowing it. They are placed within this social class of existence. Viewers tend to pay the
most attention to characters who share their age, race, and gender and those they wish they could be
like (Korgen, 2010, pg. 89). Biracial Americans go through the toughest scrutiny by both races on
whether they fit into either group. I know my brother and sister have this issue from the time they
were little especially my sister, she is lighter skinned and was never truly accepted by the black or
white girls at school.
On the other hand, the media tends to act as if race does not matter that it is something from the past.
Our society is often portrayed as color blind, a place in which racism does not exist, and where race is
not important (Korgen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s no secret that since the beginning of America s history, media has played a huge role in how we
perceive people, especially in Hollywood. For instance, the majority of box office hits over the last
century have featured all white casts. Yet the ones predominantly featuring African Americans, rarely
become a box office success. I believe that racism and white supremacy in the media are so entangled
into the core of America s culture that they have become virtually unrecognizable. We as the
consumers don t even realize that having these images constantly being thrown at us is hurting people.
The fact that since the Civil Rights Act over 50 years ago we are still fighting for equality, says a lot
about just how far we still have to

Exile And The Kingdom Analysis
In Exile and the Kingdom, Most of the stories are more or less related to religion, Christianity in
particular. For example, the whole story of The Renegade, or A Confused Mind is about the change of
religion s belief of the narrator. For Jonas, or The Artist at Work, the title itself borrows the name of a
Christian character Jonas, who want justice be carried even at the price of disobeying God. In the
growing stone, the suitor agreed to carry a heavy stone to church if he was saved from the shipwreck.
The pray itself is an act of religion. As for the other character ,D Arrast, an engineer from the outside
who didn t believe in religion, he carried out the stone after the suitor fell down but sent it to the suitor
s home, instead of the church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he carried the stone to the suitor s house instead of the church, the people from the city came
and, instead of blaming him, finally accepted D Arrast and asked him to join them. This text is from

looking at him, motioned him to an empty place: Sit down with us. in Page 166. After he successfully
carried the stone back to the suitor s house, he depicted his feelings in details: Inhaling with desperate
gulps the familiar smell of poverty and ashes, he listened to the wave of joy surging inside him, dark
and panting, which he could not name (165) There is an contrast between the earthy ambiance and his
inner satisfaction. It implies that due to his helping of the suitor, in other words, his own kindness, D
Arrast had found his inner happiness in this world filled with unfortunate. In comparison, the stone,
which is a symbol of the religion in Iguapo, evoke a sense of heaviness. The people in Iguapo was
burdened by its religion instead of pursuing happiness. However, because of D Arrast act, the statues
of religion had changed little by little, it is implied by the text: In the center of the room, in the hearth
space, the stone was half buried in cinders and earth. (165) The stone, a symbol of the religion, was
half buried in to the earthy world. Camus seems to praise

Weight Loss Diets And Its Effect On Human Body
Weight Loss Diets and Its Effect on Human Body Diet is a word that comes from the Greek words
meaning way of life. Diet is, therefore, a lifestyle of people over an extended period. Today diet has
become the most discussed issue in the society today. People seem to have been reluctant and ignorant
to monitoring their diets and it is because of this that we have had diet related issues such as obesity,
underweight, bulimia, and anorexia. In the world today as much as some people want to add weight
majority are ready to do anything just to cut on their weight. Currently in the market today, people
have come up with weight loss diets to supplement the normal exercise program that is meant to cut
on weight and maintain body fitness. The main reason as to why people go for a weight loss diet
rather than register for a gymnasium class is that this does not require workouts that make them tired
and sweaty. However, one thing that they fail to understand is the fact that these weight loss diets has
some effects on the human body in one way or the other. In this discussion, we are going to analyze all
these effects caused by weight loss diets on the market today. There are different types of weight loss
diets, and these include the Atkins diet, south beach diet, the pritikin diet, zone diet, and paluo diet.
To begin with, the Atkins diet is in which the weight loss patient is put on a diet high in protein and fat
but low on carbohydrate. According to this type of diet, it is

Herzl Anti Semites
It is essential that the sufferings of Jews became worse. This will assist in the realization of our plans.
I have an excellent idea. I shall induce anti semites to liquidate Jewish wealth. The anti semites will
assist us thereby in that they will strengthen the persecution and oppression of Jews. The anti semites
shall be our best friends Theodor Herzl diary. Theodor Herzl impacted the Arab Israeli conflict by his
organization called Zionism. Herzl was born in Hungary in May 2,1860. He decided to move to
Vienna because of his sister s death. He studied law but soon he became a writer. In 1889 he married
Julie Naschauer ,but later on it was an unhappy marriage. He had three children. His life changed

Herzl talked about how Jews needed a nation or a land of their own which jews could express their
culture and practice their religion without interruption. Herzl wanted a solution for this conflict so he
thought the solution was to have a Jewish state. In 1897 there was a first Zionist Congress in Basel,
Switzerland where Herzl persuaded the delegates to accept his ideas. The main reason was for The
World Zionist Organization. People from other countries attended the congress. Herzl was elected
President of the organization. There are many perspectives about Theodor Herzl and The Zionist
Organization. Some Israeli are against Zionism because they believe that it doesn t go with their
beliefs and the traditional Judaism. It s being demanded by political sovereignty. Before the Zionist
Organization Jews and Arabs had a friendship and lived in peace. They did not want war and violence.
Arabs rejected Zionism because they knew it was going to negatively affect their life. The arabs
negativity wasn t the Zionism based of economic and social issues but because of colored by the

Tim Burton Techniques
From films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The Corpse Bride, director Tim Burton has
charmed millions with his unique style and techniques. Tim Burton uses low key lighting and non
diegetic sound in order to fluctuate the emotions, perspectives of the character, situations, and mood in
order to show his audience that everyone is different in their own special way.
To begin, Tim Burton uses low key lighting to manipulate different emotions within the audience and
create suspense. In Burton s film The Corpse Bride, when Victor is walking through the forest,
repeating his vows over and over again, the lowkey lighting in the background creates creepy shadows
making the forest look more threatening and intimidating. Later in the movie, ... Show more content

In Burton s film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he uses non diegetic sound when Willy Wonka is
walking the children and their parents into the edible room. Burton uses non diegetic sound to show
the different perspectives of each one of the children and their reaction to the room but it also changes
the mood of the story. By using the orchestral music, Tim Burton is able to show the children and their
parents thoughts and emotions.Burton allows the audience to get a deeper understanding of the
characters. Another film that buron uses non diegetic sounds in is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory.
In the scene as Victor rehearses his vows, the music is proud and triumphant, but when Victor places
the ring, unknowingly, on the bride s figure the music changes to a dark and frantic soundtrack, which
changes the mood of the crowd from being happy for Victor to being scared for him as he runs away
from the bride. By changing the music as the scenes change, Burton is able to fluctuate the mood of
the setting for the audience. Burton also is able to portray that Victor s mood is also changing. In
addition to allowing the audience to gain a better understanding of the characters, Burton uses non
diegetic sounds to foreshadow the events that are about to happen, such as when the music changes
suddenly to frantic music the viewers can predict that something bad is

Grouping People Based on Stereotypes
Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at
some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over
again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping
people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas
and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the
entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at
least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a
human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through
film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue
from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a
few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to
function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the
definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It
may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. However if we were to define
stereotypes in the arts then it would be different, as it would be more

Latter Day Saints
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints With this paper we are going to look at The church of Jesus Christ
of Latter Day Saints. They are more commonly known as Mormons or just LDS. We are going to learn
about what Mormons view of beliefs of creation and death. At the end of the paper we will look at
how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to understand how
Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism was founded by
Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. The largest Mormon religious body is
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS for short) (Mormonism ReligionFacts. (2015,
March 17)) One the most important things that stand out the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But what I have found is that, while I do occasionally go to an Assembly of God Church which is
Christian based. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that can
also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my father.
Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure love:..... Mourning
can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The expectation of seeing my
friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me bear up against the evils of
life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet them with increased joy
(Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference from my understanding of my
religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God and was typically a good person, I
would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However, for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You
have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family. That is the reason why going on these
missionaries are so important to them. You are giving back to others that are in need and are working
to spread the knowledge from the gospel not only about creation and how to deal with death, but
everything in between. While not specifically pertaining to death and

Symbolism in A Good Man is Hard to Find Essay
The short story A Good Man is Hard to Find, by Flannery O Connor, is bombarded with symbolism.
In short stories symbolism is the literary element that helps the reader depict the picture and actions in
their own minds. Whether it be from characters names or the designs on the characters shirts, every
detail in this story has a purpose. Flannery O Connor was known for her strong religious background,
Catholicism, and used her faith as the underlying message in her works. In the story, A Good Man is
Hard to Find, there are a couple of things that can be traced directly to Christianity. The little boy,
John Wesley, symbolizes the religious denomination of Methodism. John Wesley, along with his
brother Charles Wesley, founded the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the first time death is symbolized in this story is when the family passes a graveyard.
They passed a large cotton field with five or six graves fenced in the middle of it, like a small island.
Look at the graveyard! the grandmother said, pointing it out. That was the old FAMILY burying
grounds. (99). O Connor purposely mentions the specific number of graves, one grave for each person
in the car. She also mentions that it was a family burying ground. This symbolism foreshadows that
the family will soon face death. When the family is driving through the town, the grandmother
remembers the old plantation is called Toombsboro . This plantation s name is brought up to remind
the reader of death. Toombsboro sounds like the tomb, symbolizing the family will soon face their
tombs. Another description that is given to symbolize the deaths is that of the Misfits car. It was a big
black battered hearse like automobile (103). A hearse is a vehicle designed to carry coffins for
funerals. This description also foreshadows the death of the family before the Misfit arrives. Lastly,
the woods, tall and dark and deep (105) represent the family s death. The woods symbolize the
unknown and fear we have for death, which is considered dark and deep. The Grandmother stood in
front of the woods reminding us that death is always near and behind us. Just like the woods, death
can be a scary thing

Homework curses the lives of students everywhere, destroying lives and happiness. Homework looms over students heads, waiting to strike in each class that it is assigned. Homework is not beneficial because students do not have time for it and teachers assign it based on amount and not overall quality. Students do not have enough time for homework. Nowadays students have jobs, extracurricular activities, and family obligations on top of going to school for seven hours a day. According to John Rhodes and Jan Wilson, in Student s Perspectives on Homework, they argue students may end up coming home late from sports and feel unmotivated to complete their assigned homework tasks. Going from school, wearing students down mentally and then going to a sport, wearing students down physically, students are completely exhausted and decide that the homework can be put on the backburner. They either do not do it or give little effort, just to get it over with. Rhodes and Wilson add that students become stressed from the volume of homework and feel they need down time to relax after attending school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have made both bad and good choices. When I started school I wanted to be a Doctor but as times goes on, I decided that there is no way I can be a Doctor. I changed my mind from that vision when I saw what Doctors do. In my life, I have tried a lot of sports, and I can say that soccer is the best and my favorite among the rest. There was much tension between the countries of Europe for more than fifty years. There were immediate causes, and long term causes. Some immediate causes were the assassination of the heir of Austria Hungry, Germany declares war on Russia, Germany declares war on France, and Great Britain declares war on Germany. Some long term causes or basic causes were imperialism, nationalism, and the arms race. The Axis Powers were the countries of Italy, France, and the British Empire. The need for raw materials and new markets Europe starts to take over land in Africa, China, India, and the Middle East. The fight for obtaining the most land results in European countries fighting over who gets what land. Another factor was nationalism. Nationalism is the love for one s country and feeling your part of the country. It results in each country claiming that they are the best. The Arms Race is another contributing factor to the war. Due to conflicts over land, countries start to prepare for and build up their armies. The Allies of World War II consisted of, Great Britain, France, Poland, Belgium, Australia, The U.S., and the USSR. America s Justification For Surveillance And Spy Activity The National Security Agency of the United States has created a confidential surveillance program named PRISM, operating as the world s largest Planning Tool for Resource Integration, Synchronization, and Management . This program is designed to gather and process foreign intelligence that travels through the United States, by extracting data from some of the world s largest tech companies and its users. The United States describes itself as the Worlds telecommunications backbone , which was explicitly listed in the leaked PowerPoint presentation of PRISM s operation. By going undercover and secretively accessing file transfers, e mails, videos, call logs and numerous other types of data, the United States government is enabling a watch dog on its citizens and creating the largest terrorist regime. These PowerPoint slides behold some very disturbing information in how U.S citizens are being deprived of privacy, leading to loss of agency. Restricting individuals to be watched all the time turns the human race into robots, as individuality is lost, and liberty and freedom begins to diminish. America s justification for surveillance and spy activity since 9/11 was to fight terrorism and protect the population, but these documents have nothing to do with capturing foreign terrorists or improving national security. • 9. The Dilemmas Of Desire In The Franklin s Tale Genesis Valdez ENG 4120 4 December 2017 The Dilemmas of Desire In Chaucer s Franklin Tale the plot revolves around a married couple: the knight, Arviragus, his young wife, Dorigen, and a young squire, Aurelius who importunes and attempts to Dorigen. The characters can be said to oscillate between desire and their ego honor which affects what they say and do. Lacan s definition of desire tells us that we desire for recognition from this Other. Our desire is to become what the other person lacks. Duby s model of courtly love is a concept that focuses on chivalry, nobility and women being at the center. In this paper, I will examine what the story reveals about the relation each character has to his or her desire, how they act in accordance to their desire and the role magic or illusion plays in the plot and how it affect characters relation to desire. In The Franklin s Tale, Dorigen marries Arviragus and he promises to be true to her and never take an authoritarian role over her. Dorigen promises that in return she will be his humble true wife and will give him his sovereignty. Arviragus gives Dorigen power in the relationship and has dominion. Arviragus demonstrates courtly love because he serves her in a way that allows freedom. • 10. Ken Robinson s The Current Education System According to Ken Robinson, the current education system has yet to adapt to the modern world and it s different modes of thinking, creating a stand still in curriculum success that is in desperate need of reform. After explaining how countries around the world want to reform education and carry on legacies, Robinson makes the case that our current education system is out dated. The current system was established during the 18th century during the Industrial Revolution, which was based largely on agricultural and urban advancements. As Robinson mentions, every community wants their children to be prepared for the current economic opportunities and carry a cultural legacy, but that s hard to do when our current system isn t cohesive to today s circumstances. People are trying to work out how we educate our children to their place in the economies of the 21st century. (Robinson, RSAnimate) There isn t just one issue with our current education system, there s multiple Robinson alludes too. When we went to school we were kept there with a story which is if you work hard and did well and got a college degree you would have a job. (Robison, RSAnimate) Today, that is not the case. The hard truth is that today s students who receive a bachelor s degree aren t guaranteed a job, let alone a job in their chosen field. Robinson says not only should the structure of todays education system be examined and questioned, but as well the processes students go thru for learning. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay About Prison Reform Few states had life without parole (LWOP) statutes before the 1970s, when there was an emphasis on rehabilitation in criminal punishment and most states used indeterminate sentencing. Judges, prison authorities, and parole boards had broad discretion in sentencing and release decisions. Life sentences were parole eligible and either mandatory without a fixed minimum imprisonment term or indeterminate with a fixed minimum imprisonment term. Louisiana, as an example, had the 10 6 law (R.S. 15:571.7) from 1926 to 1979 that authorized the warden of a prison and the governor to commute a prisoner s life sentence after he had served at least 10 years and six months with good behavior. His claim that nothing works in the rehabilitation of offenders was widely accepted, as many argued that criminal justice officials could not demonstrate offenders rehabilitation and were biased and too lenient in the tough on crime movement (Mackenzie, 2001). In Schick v. Reed, the Court upheld a conditional commutation granted by President Eisenhower (1974). Although the decision discussed executive clemency, it indirectly supported life without parole statutes to come. The Supreme Court reinstated death penalty statutes in Gregg v. Georgia on the condition that they provided for sentencing guidelines, bifurcated trials, automatic appellate review, and proportionality review (1976). Later that year, the Court declared mandatory death sentences without any alternatives unconstitutional in Woodson v. North Carolina (1976). In response, states incorporated the aforementioned provisions, or variations of them, as well as alternatives in capital cases into their new death penalty laws. • 12. The Importance Of Interdependence In The Bean Trees Independence is a common societal value in American society. Many feel the need to be able to create a great life all on their own. The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, however, contrasts independence and dependence with interdependence, two or more people relying on each other. Kingsolver values interdependence the most as shown through her characters Taylor, Turtle, and Lou Ann; these characters all try for independence or dependence before realizing that interdependence is the right balance of the two. Complete dependence does not work for Lou Ann, who struggles to know who she is without her husband, or Turtle, who cannot express herself after becoming an orphan. At the beginning of the novel, Lou Ann says that she and her husband, Angel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, Kingsolver shows that independence is imperfect because if you make a mistake there is no one there to help you back up. In the end, Kingsolver proves interdependence is the best way to survive by showing Taylor, Lou Ann, and Turtle as a family; she also uses rhizobia as a symbol for interdependence at work. When Taylor and Lou Ann first meet, they instantly find a connection. Taylor helps Lou Ann to become more confident by encouraging her to speak her mind about how the door to the strip club makes her uncomfortable. Also, she tells Lou Ann to stop putting herself down and thinking she is not as smart as Taylor or that Angel left because she got drunk once. In return, Lou Ann helps Taylor by taking care of Turtle and supporting Taylor as she learns how to be a good mother. Turtle, as a result of feeling loved and safe within her new family, begins to speak and laugh. In return, Turtle gives Taylor a sense of purpose. North America may claim one of the most successful hybrids of this century. The newly discovered coy wolf is a mix between two canis species, the western coyote and the eastern wolf. This hybrid is also called the eastern coyote or northeastern coyote. The hybrid did not arise spontaneously. As the coyote migrated east, the largest and most abundant food source became the white tailed deer. The western coyote weighs on average 20 40 lbs while the white tailed deer can weight up to 140 lbs. To take advantage of this food source, a genetic change must occur in the coyote population. With the addition of wolf DNA, weight and muscling is added to the slim physique of the coyote. The larger body size of northeastern coyotes is widely accepted as advantageous for hunting large prey (Kirchman 92). The coyotes that bred with wolves became genetically favorable over coyotes of western decent. The northeastern coyote or coy wolf became the apex predator of the eastern region over that of the wolf or western coyote because it is able to live off of the most abundant food source of the region. • 14. Market Transparency and Consumer Choice for Housing Essay Since 2006, the number of foreclosures in the housing market has sparked dramatically. This is due to the fact that banks have given out subprime mortgages or interest only loans to consumers regardless of their credit score. One of the main reasons why banks did not care about consumers credit history is because they resold the loans as mortgage backed securities. This caused the loans to fall into the hands of credit rating companies that rated the loans too positive; thus, these assets were expanded and helped lead to the foreclosure crisis without hurting the banks directly. The goal was that banks lustily sought the big payoff that these mortgages could provide. The mortgages and loans let low income consumers pay only a low rate of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So far, as a result, foreclosures are decreasing and the mortgages are becoming more affordable, but job creation and transparency in the market has not occurred, so the crisis continues. Fortunately, job creation is projected to increase by this spring due to the passing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dubbed the economic stimulus to pull us out of the recession and create jobs; therefore, new job growth will help citizens pay their mortgages and lower foreclosure even more. Despite all of these laws, there still remains one vital part to ensure the stability of our financial system: transparency. Congress has proposed a financial overhaul bill that would enforce new rules and regulation to the industry, but the downfall of it is that it would hinder needed economic growth in a time of feeble recovery. So I propose creating an internet portal administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The government would then require banks to put the address on the top of every loan application to ensure consumer awareness of the address. The portal or website would allow consumers to create a profile and input a basic credit history. The employees at the Department of Housing and Urban Development would then perform calculations about the type of loan, the ability to refinance and buy a home, the risk factor for different types of loans, the outcome of the housing market in the future, and a background check on every bank in ... The state requires APSCN as the accounting system required in our school. He included that we use eSchool and eFinance software under that program also. Dr. Myers strongly believes that computers have a positive effect on the districts accounting and budgeting. He stated that computers make it easy to keep and share documents. • 19. Business Monitoring For Field Service In an era of deregulation and increased competition, service companies must provide prompt, efficient service that their customers will not risk losing. To optimize return on fleet assets and valuable technician time, fleet managers need to maintain service units in top operating condition, and have instant visibility into their locations and availability at all times. Your technicians are certified professionals who are experienced in their fields, not professional drivers. Yet many service companies expose themselves to the risk of dangerous, costly and reputation ruining collisions by putting technicians who lack professional driving training behind the wheels of their service vehicles or vans. Faced with dense dispatch schedules, technicians are tempted to cut corners on safe, fuel efficient driving in hopes of keeping on track. Driving incidents and citations cause further delays and increase costs for insurance premiums, vehicle wear and tear, liability, and fuel as well as damage to the company s reputation. Yet for too many companies, improving driving behavior is merely an afterthought. This is one facet of business monitoring for field service organizations that most CEOs, CIOs, COOs and managers don t pay enough attention to. Considering the cost of one safety related event, why? Let s look at the data. On average field service technicians spend roughly 35% of their time on the road, yet they aren t professional drivers. Additionally, according to ... • 20. Analysis Of The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt The Good of Human Nature The Man in the Water , by Roger Rosenblatt, tells a story of how a man gave his life to help four other strangers survive. An airplane clipped a bridge and took a dive into the Pontiac river in Washington DC. There were five survivors left clinging to the tail section of the airplane, when helicopters and boats reached them. The best we can do when faced with adversity is to display the good nature in ourselves. Our man in the water , put his life at stake. Every time the rescue team lowered a lifeline and floatation ring to the man, he gave it to the other strangers. For at some moment in the water he must have realized that he would not live if he continued to hand over the rope and the ring to others. When our man in the water realized that he had to choose between life and helping the strangers, he picked the more honorable decision, thus responsible for helping save four lives for the price of his own. ... • 24. My Reflection Of Skype Skype Reflection I will start by saying that our conversations with everyone over Skype has been my favorite thing I have had the pleasure to do since I have been in college. It was different, informative, intriguing, and easily the most interesting exchange I have ever had. I not only appreciate having been given the opportunity to be a part of this conversation, but feel fortunate to have taken part in learning about others and their way of life. After speaking with Chris Saunders and Panos and Stefania, I re read Hofstede s dimensions and felt I learned more and understood it better after speaking with them. I feel that I can read something repeatedly, but having a good example and seeing it first hand is the best learning experience I can have. To have a good take away from the book with an even better example was the best way to learn this subject. When speaking to Chris Saunders from Wales and England, I first noticed that he seemed as nervous as we did. He was able to answer our questions with great content and was really funny. I felt that he had a great amount of individuality and held true to his own beliefs. I also feel that Chris showed that he fits into the masculinity dimension as he is successful as a writer and driven as a teacher. Since he has moved around so much, he shows that he personally has a low uncertainty avoidance, as he can take risks and is less resistant to change. An example of this is he was able to move to China, not knowing much about the culture or the language and take the changes as they came at him. When it came to talking to Chris, I think what surprised me the most was that there is a gap between 16 and 18 from what we would call high school to college. In the United States kids wouldn t know what to do with themselves and I can t imagine what kind of trouble they would get into. It also surprised me that he has lived in so many places. He has had the opportunity to learn so about so many cultures and meet so many people and that is incredible. My impressions of Chris were that he is very intelligent and funny. He has a great sense of what he wants in life and is able to accomplish those goals. Because of his individuality he is able to make his own choices and do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people say not to judge a book by its cover , which is actually partly true. Giving the work a quick glance or just a look at the title is clearly not a fair way to judge, however the title is important because it gives way to what the creator was attempting to portray. The shark in the museum and its title both allow people to decipher what the shark itself and the title mean in various ways; however, if it was just the shark, the artist s purpose would definitely not be depicted as well. At first glance, one may believe that the shark is in the museum because of something special about him, such as his age or any other specialities. Third, I will provide counter examples to Locke s ideas, and will explain why these counter examples work for Locke s theories provided. Finally, I address some of the ways that Locke might respond to my objections. Locke furthers his own theory of this by stating that humans are not born with innate ideas (Matheis). With what Locke states, we as humans can reason that we are born without any knowledge and everything that we learn is put onto our blank slate. The Tabula Rasa is important because it also gives us a basic understanding to Locke s later arguments and theories. Locke argues that if we all had an innate idea we wouldn t need to use reason to discover them because they would already be present in the human mind. Although, Locke s idea about blank slates is a very logical idea, there are a few flaws within. Innate knowledge, which was produced as an idea from Plato states that we already learned everything prior to being born, we are just simply experiencing and recollecting knowledge from our soul that we had before our physical birth. Plato was not the only philosopher that supported the idea of innate knowledge. Descartes also believed in innate knowledge over the Tabula Rasa, he believed in the innate ideas of God. Kant also believed that we had a sense of time, space, causality and comparison from innate knowledge (Al Rodhan). Locke then goes further into his theory by stating that all knowledge begins with sensory experiences. Locke states that everything that is learned from our experience with objects. Variety is important because research into retail choice suggests people value variety and do not always shop at the supermarket that is closest to home (Handy,1996). Finally, competition is an accepted price control mechanism, which is important when evaluating access for low income populations. (Sparks). This study found that inmates with no gang affiliation were significantly less likely that those wit either street gang affiliation or prison gang affiliation to have been guilty of a violent misconduct (Griffin, 2006). Also noted in the Griffon study, inmates who have a gang affiliation are less likely to participate in needed rehab and vocational programs that may help them upon release. A big problem with prison gangs is that very little is known about them, this is because they are very secretive, unlike their counterparts on the streets (Fong, 1991). The reason for this secrecy is so gang members can avoid being persecuted by the prison administration. Over the years prison officials have come up with different ways to handle prisoners in gangs, one method is called jacketing. Jacketing is when an inmate recieves a mark on his record, or his jacket , that marks him as a gang member. From there an inmate can be moved to a higher security prison or a different housing unit if officials felt it was needed (Hunt, 1993). Overgeneralizing can make an individual feel stressed. Feeling stressed can cause negative thoughts, which will cause negative performances. With overgeneralizing comes neurotic perfectionism. Since the athlete is not getting the results they want right away, they start to believe that they will not get the outcome they would like to see. For example, if an athlete does not perform as well as they thought they could in one practice, when they usually perform very well, they may come to a conclusion that nothing is going right and nothing will go right. They will begin to determine that they are not going to play in their upcoming game just because they practiced poorly once. This can begin to cause stress on the person, which will mentally weaken their performance. Although I am not involved in a sport here at Drake, I found overgeneralizing in myself when it came to academics. If the political leaders for the past 5 years only used our funds properly instead of putting it in their own pockets then that would have been able to develop an elite police force that would be able to handle any type of crisis situation in a very effective manner. Making no excuses for the Aquino administration because like said, they should ve been in full control the moment the hostage crisis started but in reality they are also inheriting a poorly trained and equipped PNP from the previous administration. Don t forget that Aquino has been in power for barely two months while Robredo was just appointed as DILG chief in the middle of July. It is with this reason that really appalled by the way two very staunch supporters of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Senator Miguel Zubiri and Albay s Rep. Edcel Lagman, are now trying their darndest best to play hero and pin all the blame on Aquino and Robredo. If they are really serious that they want to help our country and improve our image in the international community, then perhaps they can begin by probing and supporting an investigation on all the anomalies and corruption that happened during their boss term. Now, what can do to finally move forward? The greater challenge for us Filipinos is to understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Alaska Highway Essay In 1942, fifteen thousand American soldiers and civilian laborers poured into Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon to construct a highway stretching from mainland United States to Alaska. In doing so, they had to overcome obstacles of climate, terrain, and manpower (see Figure 1). The construction of the Alaska Highway serves an enlightening episode where Canadian and American interest in northern development and continental defense became intertwined. The continental projects in the North west, including the Alaska Highway, North West Staging route, and the CANOL pipeline marked a new period in Canadian American relations. Funding and labour for the highway were provided by the United States, and so Ottawa looked forward to acquiring, at American expense, an all weather road that would hold great commercial value for the region in the post war. Worries of sovereignty were not the priority at this point in time as the fate of the war still remained unsure in early 1942. In addition to the expected post war economic benefits, the American presence served the wartime strategic aims of both the American and Canadian Governments, as they urgently sought the continent against the possibility of encroachment from both the Western threat of Japan and the eastern threat of Germany. This was particularly true until 1943, as the fate as the war still uncertain. As the war began to strongly favour the Allies, the Canadian government was able to re address concerns such as northern development and increasing its involvement in north west defense projects. Until the end of the war, Canada maintained a policy to mitigate potential issues arising from the continued need for continental defense projects that would result in American presence within Canadian boundaries. The war years were an opportunity for the Canadian Government to prepare itself for a post war reality, where the Canadian North would remain a strategic location in a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United ... Typically the media portrays people with lighter skin to have more positive characteristics while people with darker skin more negative characteristics. Media is one first place young children get these images from and it can have a huge impression on them without even knowing it. They are placed within this social class of existence. Viewers tend to pay the most attention to characters who share their age, race, and gender and those they wish they could be like (Korgen, 2010, pg. 89). Biracial Americans go through the toughest scrutiny by both races on whether they fit into either group. I know my brother and sister have this issue from the time they were little especially my sister, she is lighter skinned and was never truly accepted by the black or white girls at school. On the other hand, the media tends to act as if race does not matter that it is something from the past. Our society is often portrayed as color blind, a place in which racism does not exist, and where race is not important (Korgen, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the majority of box office hits over the last century have featured all white casts. Yet the ones predominantly featuring African Americans, rarely become a box office success. I believe that racism and white supremacy in the media are so entangled into the core of America s culture that they have become virtually unrecognizable. Tim Burton uses low key lighting and non diegetic sound in order to fluctuate the emotions, perspectives of the character, situations, and mood in order to show his audience that everyone is different in their own special way. To begin, Tim Burton uses low key lighting to manipulate different emotions within the audience and create suspense. • 45. Grouping People Based on Stereotypes Harold Evans once said, Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and clichés . Yet at some points stereotypes help us to gain a truth that would otherwise have to be learnt over and over again, each time we encountered it. When trying to view the world, one must realise that by grouping people based on stereotypes, they are allowing themselves to recognise different peoples, threats, ideas and many other different aspects of society. Whether this grouping has any real basis or not is the entire argument within this essay. Analysing this concept through theory of knowledge means that at least two areas of knowledge need to be recognised. This essay will be discussing it through both a human sciences perspective, more specifically with relation to psychology, and also the arts, through film, something in which even recently stereotypes are very common. Extracting a knowledge issue from this question is difficult as the topic is already so broad however for the purposes of this essay, a few words within the title will first be defined. When defining stereotypes it needs to be spilt up to function in both the psychological sense but also the area of film and literature. In psychology the definition of a stereotype is a set of generalizations about a group of people or a social category. It may be correct or incorrect. Mostly, these statements are exaggerated. However if we were to define stereotypes in the arts then it would be different, as it would be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the end of the paper we will look at how Mormonism compares to my current religions views. However, we need to understand how Mormonism started and some of the main beliefs they currently hold. Mormonism was founded by Joseph Smith in the mid 19th century Northeast United States. What sticks out to me though in doing the research in dealing with death, that can also help me move forward and find that connection with God and the mourning for my father. Mourning not only is appropriate; it is also one of the deepest expressions of pure love:..... Mourning can heighten our faith and our hopes. The Prophet Joseph Smith said, The expectation of seeing my friends in the morning of the resurrection cheers my soul and makes me bear up against the evils of life. It is like their taking a long journey, and on their return we meet them with increased joy (Gillespie, K. L. (2011, May 27).) This to me is the biggest difference from my understanding of my religion. I have always felt that as long as I said I believed in God and was typically a good person, I would go to heaven and meet up with my family. However, for Mormonism, it is not as simple. You have to dedicate your life to God, and to your family. That is the reason why going on these missionaries are so important to them. They passed a large cotton field with five or six graves fenced in the middle of it, like a small island. Look at the graveyard! the grandmother said, pointing it out. That was the old FAMILY burying grounds. (99). O Connor purposely mentions the specific number of graves, one grave for each person in the car. She also mentions that it was a family burying ground. This symbolism foreshadows that the family will soon face death. When the family is driving through the town, the grandmother remembers the old plantation is called Toombsboro . This plantation s name is brought up to remind the reader of death. Toombsboro sounds like the tomb, symbolizing the family will soon face their tombs. Another description that is given to symbolize the deaths is that of the Misfits car. It was a big black battered hearse like automobile (103). A hearse is a vehicle designed to carry coffins for funerals. This description also foreshadows the death of the family before the Misfit arrives. Lastly, the woods, tall and dark and deep (105) represent the family s death. The woods symbolize the unknown and fear we have for death, which is considered dark and deep.
