Organizational Effectiveness
Organizational effectiveness is a tool manager s use to measure how effective they; and their
organizations are at achieving outcomes and creating value. Organizational effectiveness can be
very difficult to measure in an organization. Why? The answer is because organizations can be
diverse and very large. Also one organization can have multiple goals and perform many activities at
the same time. Managers must decide which indicators they want to measure in order to determine
the effectiveness of their organization. There are three approaches managers can use in evaluating
effectiveness. They are the external resource approach (Control); the internal systems approach
(Innovation); and the technical approach (Efficiency). Each approach... Show more content on

Even though the external resource approach can be very valuable when other measures are not
available it does have its downside. The approach only vaguely considers the organization s link
to the needs of customers in the external environment. The internal systems approach allows
managers to evaluate how well their organization functions and how smooth it operates. An
organization needs to be able to rapidly create products, make services available; and speed up
decision making in order to adapt and respond quickly to the forever changing environment. To
measure an organization s capacity for innovation the length of time taken to make decisions, the
amount of time taken to get a new product on the market, and the amount o f time spent
coordinating duties of different departments are all factored in . These factors can often measured
objectively (Jones, 2007, p. 17). For example If an organization was to improve its decision
making process it would help it to introduce new products or services to the market sooner and keep
up with or surpass its competitors in productivity. When organizations make changes to increase
employee morale and coordination this can have a direct impact on its ability to respond to the
environment. When employees

How Do Advertisers Make Advertisements
How do advertisers make ads to persuade you? Advertisements implement different strategies in
order to persuade the viewers using ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is appealing to the viewers
character. Pathos is the way something provokes an emotion. Logos is using numbers and
reasoning to persuade an audience. In the anti smokingcampaign ads, the creators test the
effectiveness of the ads by appealing to the audience using pathos in two different types of ways.
The first ad contains an image of a young adult male smoking a cigarette. The cigarette smoke
creates an image of a gun aimed at his head. In the bottom right corner there is a note that says,
Kill a cigarette and save a life. Yours. The entire ad is in black and white to create a depressing
mood. This ad uses pathos to persuade the audience by provoking the emotion of depression and
death of an adolescent. This ad targets a younger audience member along with parents. From a
younger person s point of view it looks like the boy is basically committing suicide. From a
parent s point of view, it makes them want to stop young people from smoking because it shows
it can kill them, so it would be there way of protection. The second ad contains an image of a
man that is appealing to the eye. This man is being choked by a cigarette that is acting like a hand.
The ad is like a smooth caramel looking color to match along with the man s smooth skin. This ad
mainly targets women because the man is

Auteur Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
Auteur Alfred Hitchcock s suspenseful, darkly comic film, Rear Window (1954) subverts the
murder mystery genre to explore the suppressed anxieties and desires of American Individuals
and communities. The film is an allegory of their responses to changes in gender roles and
domestic life in the post war era. Hitchcock s panopticon set subjects the space of a Greenwich
Village apartment building to set a point of view of its immobilized protagonist, confined to his
small apartment, where he is predilected to spectate others as a form of escapism and an
expression of control. Hitchcock challenges the idea of conservative values such as an active male
and a passive female and how Jeff uses his speculations of the performances played out on the
courtyard to distance himself from his own fears of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What emerges most clearly is that Jeff s emotional response towards the formation of an intimate
relationship is also an indicator of Jeff s skill for emotional detachment. His constant visual
omnipotence of prying on others is reflected through his passion of photography, where he prefers
to be an observer of life, hypocritically pointing out the mistakes of others by telling them to be
careful than to deal with the emotional requirements of being an active participant. Hitchcock
substantiates the idea of the male gaze and the proposal of mixing violence with male desires.
This is seen throughout the film, where the camera continually employs close up and mid shots of
the characters with the intention of presenting women as chopped up pieces of limbs, highlighting
the insignificance of women under an objectifying male gaze. In one scene when Lisa is in an
argument with Jeff about her unwelcomed encumbrance, Lisa is laying on the bed, and only the
top half of her head is captured within the frame. Whilst this is happening, Jeff is leering at Ms.
Torso and comments that it must be a hard job to tackle , disregarding Lisa s assertive

The Popularity of Preschool and Headstart Programs
The parents of today s society are signing up their children for preschool and head start programs
more than ever. About seventy five percent of the nation s four year old attend a preschool
center, as do fifty percent of three year olds. (Barnett, 2008, page 3). Preschool has long been
though to shape a child s academic life, putting a child ahead of the curve in kindergarten and
leading them into a successful school career. The primary reason for attending preschool in past
decades was the known benefits of socialization, but preschool has changed a lot over the years
putting much more emphasis on cognitive development. Gone are the days when children only
focused on colors, shapes, and numbers. Today s preschoolers are learning music and second
languages. Questions still remain about how successful these programs are when it comes to
preparing children for their future academic careers. This paper will examine the known
advantages and disadvantages of sending a child off to preschool as well as what qualities a
preschool should have. Quality of Care Research has shown that the true benefits of preschool
programs are heavily dependent upon the setting and environment in which the learning is taking
place. Choosing the correct school is crucial for proper learning and development in preschool aged
children. In order to obtain successful outcomes preschools and other types of head start programs
should be of high quality, meaning they have experienced teacher

I believe that the New Colombo scholarship would allow me to engage in more units which
challenge my understanding of the world and further develop my critical thinking skills. I would
plan to choose a cultural or language unit to gain a deeper understanding of the country and
community that I would be living in. I believe that this would not only benefit my immediate
experiences whilst in the host country but also develop my ability to communicate and interact
with the science community in Australia and overseas in years to come. I am very interested in this
scholarship program for the academic opportunities it provides and encourages to develop my
learning and knowledge for the benefit of myself and the national and international community.
Leadership in the community
Throughout my life I have been committed to being a leader and role model in my community. I
have been highly committed to the Duke of Edinburgh program completing all three award levels,
Gold, Silver and Bronze. Through this program I have gained experience in communicating with
people of similar and very different circumstances and life experiences. I have volunteered at a

Significant Difference Between The Spanish And New England...
In 1492, Columbus came to the New World along with fifty other Spanish men. Those men spread
Catholicism throughout the native population, as well as settling to form their own colonies. Year
later, settlers from New England began colonizing in the New World spreading beliefs of
Puritanism as well as forming an economy apart from the Old World. The role of religion and
economy were significantly different during the two different colonizations periods, while the
treatment of the native population was significantly similar.
The role of religion between the Spanish and New England colonies were significantly different due
to the conquistadors and salvation mentality in the Spanish, and the strong Puritan beliefs in the
New England colonists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Spanish colonies the encomienda system setup slavery in the form of labor to the natives. In
the Spanish colonies, the natives were set under the encomienda system where the natives were
used as slaves for their protection, in return for their labor. The natives were also forced to undergo
a conversion in religion under this system. The Spanish soldiers believed natives were only fit to be
tortured and killed. If the natives did not convert, the Spanish would torture and kill natives. Similar
to the Spanish colonies encomienda system, the New England colonies had indentured servitude.
During the early settlements colonists were mostly friendly with the natives. Soon, in the colonies
of Virginia and Maryland, chattel slavery and indentured servitude amongst the natives were vast.
The English believed the natives were property and compared to animals. In indentured servitude
the natives were granted freedom by the English in return for their work, just how to the Spanish
granted protection for their labor. For instance, slaves were the main work force when it came to
tobacco and sugar in the northern New England colonies. Due to the longevity of the contract the
natives were never granted their headrights. On the other hand, in the colony of Pennsylvania the

Obamacare And Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
The Affordable Care Act which is also known as Obamacare and Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law on March 23, 2010 and it has not been without its share of
problems, debates and controversies. One of the main points of contention with the PPACA is the
individual mandate. This paper will look at the worldviews that are involved in the individual
mandate, the worldviews of those that oppose the mandate, the roles and limits of the government s
side of the mandate issue and the conflicting views and ideas that have come about. The individual
mandate requires that most Americans obtain and maintain health insurance, or an exemption, each
month or pay a tax penalty . The whole purpose of creating PPACA was to achieve near universal
coverage and to do so through shared responsibility among government, individuals, and
employers also to be able to improve the fairness, quality, and affordability of health insurance
coverage and to be able to improve health care value, quality, and efficiency while reducing
wasteful spending and making the health care system more accountable to a diverse patient
population .Those were the top three aims that were pointed out in drawing up the policies for
PPACA to develop what was hoped to be universal healthcare for the citizens of the United States.
While the PPACA does have its benefits, such as it would cover pre existing conditions where most
private insurances do not do, more people have the

How Does Religion Affect The Lives Of Its Followers
How does religion affect the lives of it s followers? Religions affect the lives of its followers
greatly because if you re a Muslim you have to pray five times a day, if you re a Jew you can t have
any other gods, and if you believe in Buddhismyou have to follow the middle path to stop
suffering. All these rules you have to follow can take away time from you and can make you give
up stuff you have, even make you leave money behind.
First and foremost , people have to go to work and have a lot of thing to do during a day . A
Muslim has to pray five times a day, according to the five pillars of faith it states that a Muslim
must pray five times daily facing Mecca . This shows that if you re a Muslim you have to give up

modern times. Modern vampire is still very popular as of today. Some countries still want to

The Moral Majority
We will see a breakdown of the family and family values if we decide to approve same sex
marriage, and if we decide to establish homosexuality as an acceptable alternative lifestyle with
all the benefits that go with equating it with the heterosexual lifestyle, Jerry Falwell, a leading
member of the Moral Majority, made this statement in reference to his views on the moral decline
of America in the 1970s. His beliefs, along with other Americans beliefs, became the foundation
of what is known as the New Right. The New Right was a network of political activists and
organizations that emerged in the 1970s and 1980s, and it emphasized cultural issues such as
abortion, feminism, and prayer in school. Three events can be associated with the rise of the New
Right: the campaign of Goldwater in the election of 1964, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)

The common Chimpanzee is a frugivorous species, but they will often consume seeds, nuts,
flowers, leaves, honey, during dry seasons. Also they will eat insects, eggs, and animals such as
monkeys. The common chimpanzee is a good hunter, usually males will form groups to go hunt.
They hunt monkeys, antelopes, duikers, and pigs. Chimpanzee s swing from branch to branch
this helps them move swiftly in the trees, every night the Chimpanzee s build a nest made of
branches and leaves up in a tree. Usually the tree is one they were near during the day, and often
members of the group build their nests near each other. Chimpanzees are very sociable, they like
to spend the day feeding, grooming and playing with other members in their group. Groups range
in size from maybe 15 to 120 chimps depending on the habitat and the amount of available food.
They are territorial and do like tolerate outsiders, they even will kill one that is from another group.
Chimpanzee s usually walk on all fours, which is called knuckle walking, theys can stand and walk
upright just like humans.
Tool Use Chimpanzees are one of the few animal species that can use tools. They carve sticks to
help remove insects from their nests or out of the logs. They use stones to open nuts and they use

Sweatshops In Developing Countries
Todays, when the citizenship is concentrated, sweatshop is becoming a striking issue of
controversies. Especially in developed countries, this problem is always boycotted, but on the
other hand it is an opportunity for people in underdeveloped countries to change their lives.
Although sweatshop is considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking
environment, they are beneficial to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working
conditions. Firstly, women choose to work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is
their only source step out of unavailable and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries
tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being restricted to domestic chores and relying on their
husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle that they want to escape but do not know the
right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not only chance to create stable income, but
also sense of their own independence. As the writer mentions that with the small income from
garment sweatshop, women in Bangladesh can manage their finances, have their own choice in
marriage and having children (Sachs, quoted in Garyfalakis, para5). Moreover, they have chance
to go to school and gain their special skills. For example, earning $1 to $2 in Indonesia or
Bangladesh sounds unbelievable, but it can help a woman feed her kids and restrict diarrhea
disease (Kristof and Wudunn, 2000). Women in these countries also admitted that even

The Importance Of Seeing The Philadelphia Orchestra...
Last year I had the privilege of seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra perform Gustav Holst s: The
Planets Suite. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound
to the last mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full,
and ever since, I have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare
occurance in my generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips,
and yet we have no urge to explore it.
According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As
a young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life.
Thierry Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any
connection to the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that
connection by itself is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities
associated with each.
Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As
the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. Mars is
said to be an obvious illustration of war, the depressing and frightening steady march of soldiers as
they walk toward the unknown. Throughout the entire movement there is no clear harmonic
release, the chromaticism just sways back and forth.

Essay on Augustus and Alexander
Alexander the Great and Augustus Caesar have proven to be two of the worlds best leaders. These
men were brilliant and a great influence on their people, bringing great wealth and prosperity to
their nation as well as expanding their empires. Alexander and Augustus each came to power at a
very young age and ruled in a totalitarian manner, with their main weapon being their military.
However, even though they had similarities, each was very different. The following will prove my
thesis.
After the death of Prince Philip of Macedon, Alexander, then twenty years old, inherited the sole
authority and command of his Macedonia. Alexander was well built and strong with a love for

Augustus was now in full control of the Roman state. He did not want to be known as a dictator or
king, he preferred the title princeps, which means first citizen and his government would be known
as the Principate.
Both Alexander and Augustus had strong feelings on the way their governments would succeed.
Both men relied heavily on their military although in totally opposite ways. Alexander appointed
his deputies, issued all orders and controlled all payments, promotions and discharges. He knew
he needed his military to increase and maintain his empire. What added to Alexander s power
was his impulsiveness in battle and his passion for action. He used brilliant military tactics during
each conquest. He excelled in speed and precision of thought, the calculation of risks and the
expectation of an enemy s reactions. He fought side by side with his army and was very
concerned for his men. He honored and rewarded courage and devotion to duty and he felt deeply
in their sufferings. Alexander also admired the courage and devotion in his enemies, whom he
treated with honor. In return, he won the respect and loyalty of many races.
Augustus on the other hand knew how important his army was to secure his empire but used his
army and his power in a different way than Alexander. The first thing he did was to give the control
of the Republic back to the Senate, with characteristic subtlety. There were protests at his offer of
withdrawal from the

Sports Drinks And Energy Drinks
Kristie Cox
Chemistry Lab
Introduction:
In advertisement sports drinks and energy drinks claim they can do it all like weight loss,
improve endurance, and develop better concentration. The question posed is do either sports
drinks or energy drinks really do what they claim to do, and if so which one works best? First off,
sports drinks and energy drinks may overlap however, they are not the same thing. Sports drinks
such as Gatorade and PowerAde have been popular with athletes for decades. Historically sports
drinks were specifically created to be consumed during exercise to enhance performance. The first,
and probably most famous, of these sports drinks is Gatorade, a beverage developing in 1965 by

However, in 2011 the number of emergency department visits related to consumption of energy

product misuse (4). According to a study on Gatorade at the University of Minnesota they stated
If you re not breaking a sweat, then let go of that Gatorade. Drinking sports drinks as a regular
beverage at least once a week is associated with other not so healthy behaviors, like higher intake
of added sugar from sodas and fruit juice, and smoking (5). One 32 oz bottle of basic Gatorade
contains 53 grams of sugar (nearly 11 teaspoons). According the American Heart Association we
should only eat 9 added teaspoons a day (5).The American Academy of Pediatrics warns excessive
amounts of caffeine can affect the appropriate balance of carbohydrate, fat and protein intakes that
children need for optimal growth, development, body composition and health (6).Too much
caffeine also can increase heart rate, blood pressure, speech rate and motor activity, and play a role
in triggering irregular heartbeat or abnormal heart rhythm, among other concern (6).

Stereotypes Of The Rednecks
Many places in the world have multiple groups of people. However, throughout time, many of
these groups have changed, stayed the same, or have divided into multiple subgroups. These
subgroups tend to have their own stereotypes that all tie into one big group of people. Take the
rednecks for example. Rednecks have always been around, but through time this big group has
turned into different small groups. Although there are many subgroups to the rednecks, the three
main ones are the hillbillies, the folk, and the farmers. The hillbillies are the most stereotyped of
the rednecks. Television depicts the hillbillies as primarily being incestuous, no teeth, gun shooting,
and trashy yard people. Most people in today s time believe that

Psychological Processes that May Be Involved in Obedience...
Psychological Processes that May Be Involved in Obedience to Authority Obedience is the
following of someone else s instructions or orders to do something. The instructions are usually
from someone who has authority such as a parent or teacher. Milgram proposed the agentic state
theory; this is where we act as an agent of someone who has authority, it means that we find it
easy to deny personal responsibility for our actions because we have just been following orders or
doing our job. In 1950 Adorno expressed his beliefs that personality was a better explanation of
obedience. Adorno believed that some people have an Authoritarian Personality , this means that

c) Briefly outline some of the procedures used in social influence research (theories and/or

many issues raised by other psychologists as to whether the procedures that they used were
ethically questionable. This means that the research wasn t carried out in an ethical way and so
they have caused themselves much criticism. In 1951 Solomon Asch tried to find out if people

where seven people all sat looking at a display. In turn they had to say out loud which one of

Values Of Education
Values are virtues, ideals and qualities on which actions and beliefs are based. Values are guiding
principles that shape our world outlook, attitudes and conduct. (Dhunnoo. et al., n.d.). Human
beings have needs: physical and emotional. Some of these needs are catered at home while others at
school or religious institutions or the society itself. The schoolas an institution of educationis
responsible for the cognitive and affective development of the learners. However in Mauritius, our
primary school curriculum has been focusing mainly on the cognitive domain since ages. Teaching

something that is unacceptable or morally wrong. For instance, I find that greeting family

A Different Perspective On Foreign Affairs
Tony Abbott, John Howard and Kevin Rudd each have a different perspective on foreign affairs,
but there is also a common thread to their approach. In the following paper I compare and contrast
a speech made by each of them concerning foreign affairs and note the large similarity of ideology
between each of them. All speeches support a strong relationship with the United Statesof America
and active engagement in international affairs. I argue that they differ only in the nuance of
emphasis although there is some evidence of traditional realist and liberal approaches to
international politics. Howard concentrates on pragmatic state to state engagement for the benefit
of Australians. Abbott focuses more on building up the military and physical security. Rudd is the
only one of the three to emphasise that Australias foreign engagement should be for the benefit of
others, as well as Australia. Overall, however, the speeches demonstrate a greater commonality of
purpose and direction than they do divergent opinions. I argue the resulting stability of foreign
policyengagement benefits not only Australia, but the rest of the world.
The first speech of the three was given by John Howard. Howard begins his speech by describing
the wide ranging help Australia is providing to foreign countries through defence force medical
aid, the electoral commission advice and treasury counselling (Howard 2004: 2 3). Howard
describes the help Australia gives abroad as practical, broad and

China s Foot Binding During The Tang Dynasty
What Is Foot Binding?
Foot binding is a process used by all women during the Tang Dynasty. Women did this to show
their high status and rank. This was a sign of beauty. Like most beauty, it came with a lot of pain.
Why Did It Start?
During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Li Yu was one of the emperors. His favorite dancer wore
strips of cloth wrapped around her feet. She did this to make her dancing look more beautiful and
graceful. It was like ballerina feet almost, perfectly curved and pointed. Because Emperor Li Yu
adored her feet so much, he had other court maidens wrap their feet. This practice spread to women
all around China no matter their rank.
What Made It So Dangerous?
The original idea seems harmless, but as the tradition spread, the process became more gruesome.
At the start, all they would do is wrap their feet, but not tighten them daily. Women wanted to
make their feet tinier and pointier. They wanted their feet to be more curved and doll like. As a
result, they decided to create a process in order to get their feet down to the splendid length of 3
inches.
What Was That Process?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, they soaked their feet in water. After they removed dead skin and trimmed the toenails as
short as possible, they would sprinkle alum between the toes to stop any perspiration. Next, they
would soak the bandages they were going to use to bind in water. This made the bandages shrink
as they dried. They broke the four small toes and folded them under the foot of the girl. After that
they kept the big toe and ball of the foot normal but tried to move the heel towards the front of
the foot. During the process of tying the bandages onto the foot, the bones in the foot would
break. To keep the girl from ripping off the bandages, they would sew the bandages as much as
needed. Finally, small shoes were placed on her feet and she was forced to walk

teenager or young adult chooses to read. The term adolescence novel is driven by the audience

2.1. Art.
It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level
of aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Approximately between 600 AD
and 800 AD, Mayan art witnessed an ever seen era of Maya sculptures (Annequin 1978, p214) with
many masterpieces containing greatly aesthetic sense. At this time, as Annequin (1978, p.215)
notified the Maya appear to have held the void in horror, and they often crammed surfaces until the
impression was overwhelming ; this inspired Mayans to produced much more things such as masks,
ceremonial rods, earrings, armlets and mittens by inserting elaborately flamboyant feathers. Besides
having talent in producing art of relief, Mayans also were experts in stucco at Palenque and
Comalco.

Taking a Look at Electric Cars
Automobiles have become such an integral part of living in a modern society. Many places in
the first world are inexplicably fortunate enough to have such incredible transportation
technology at their finger tips. While this technology is a dream, the gasoline powered cars we
use today attribute to about 25% of the worlds carbon emissions (Agassi, Shai Agassi: A new
ecosystem for electric cars). This is a giant concern, but the car industry may find themselves a
little more concerned with the depleting oil that is burned away daily by drivers. It s
unavoidable, there needs to be a change made sooner than later, and hybrid isn t solving our
problems fast enough. The best alternate choice seems to be a full conversion to electric cars.
These cars replace gasoline engines with an electric one, running on battery power. The battery of
these cars runs current through the motor to the wheels, operating like a light and a light switch
where the increase in speed is similar to having a dimmer on that light (Brain, How Electric Cars
Work 1). This technology removes the harmful carbon emission, making it a sustainable solution to
our current problems, but it still struggles to be implemented as it has since it was first created. The
electric carfinds its inception in the mid 1800 s, sparked by Gaston PlantГ© s invention of the
lead acid storage battery in 1851, the original version of what we use in cars today. This battery
would lead the way for many variations of electric powered

even more alarming nearly one fourth of all youth suicides in BC are committed by aboriginals and
more than half of all aboriginal suicides are committed by youth (Chandler). The fact that

This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening
others and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual
will not act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit
suicide is developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the
individual to experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome
innate instincts for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in
Canada have undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value
Aboriginal values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger
society) which may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and
feel socially alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil
the desire to die. Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a
suicidal experience, could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the
interpersonal psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the
picture is incomplete as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients

big companies use this ad tactic it surprises people and angeries the feminists of the internet; even
though it s been a practice since ads started targeting more than one demographic. Why are women

Male nipples and female nipples really aren t that different, yet the stigma around the nipple is that
women s nipples are a sexy intimate part of the body but the male nipple can be flashed around
without a care in the world. The female body is nothing to be so sexualized. Institutions across
the United States have used this stigma to negatively affect women in schools, workplaces, and
in simple everyday life. On YouTube there are videos upon videos of high school girls getting
dress code violations for wearing distracting clothing that simply reveals a collar bone. The schools
claim that the clothing is distracting for male students but that s just an insult to both parties. The
sexualization of the female body has gotten to preposterous levels, The more legal and material
hindrances women have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and cruelly images of
female beauty have come to weigh upon us (Wolfe,486). Women have fought hard to overcome
prejudices previously held but a simple collarbone could label them as a harlot.
In conclusion, advertisers have cashed in on female sexuality, the appeal of youth and the
objectification of women to sell us products. Is it wrong for advertisers to do this? The decision
comes down to the consumer. If a person believes an ad is objectifying women or the beauty myth,
the consumer can always choose a different product to

Pretty Little Liars Essay
The topic, the dark side of beauty has been taken from the literary base of Pretty Little Liars, a
novel by Sara Shepard. Throughout the 16 novels and the 3 companion novellas, the theme of
beauty is common. In fact, the title of the novels leaves no speculation about the context. The titles
of the 16 novels can sum up the analysis perfectly. Ranging from Flawless, Perfect, Wanted,
Stunning to Deadly, Toxic, and Vicious, the titles leave little to imagination. Sara Shepard, through
her Y.A. books, tells the story of five teenagers namely Alison DiLaurentis, Spencer Hastings, Aria
Montgomery, Hanna Marin and Emily Fields. Alison or Ali is the ring leader of the crew, based
on her looks entirely. She guides (and lures) these four girls in the... Show more content on

High heels: Nowadays, many women wear heels without a second thought. However, it is
important to remember that high heels can be very restrictive in addition to permanently
harming one s feet. High heels restrict one s ability to run if caught in a dangerous situation and,
if worn extensively can be extremely detrimental to one s health. 6. Next extension: The Kayan
people in Burma view long necks as a sign of beauty, and hence, have adapted a very dangerous
and jaw dropping technique to make sure that the women have long necks, and hence, stay
beautiful. They wear rings around their necks. Girls around the age of 2 5 start wearing these
rings. The process is gradual but it has long term effects and ends up deforming the body. 7. Foot
binding: In China, in the 10th and 11th century, foot binding was a common practice for women.
It was also called lotus feet. Women had to bind their feet at a very young age (very tightly) so
that as their bodies grow, their feet remain the same size. As weird as this concept is, small feet
were considered beautiful at that time. And so, women obliged. 8. Rib Removal: Common in
USA and Europe, women had their ribs removed to have the tiniest waist possible. However
bizarre it sounds, it was quite famous in it s

The Importance Of Living A Happy Life
Many have trouble finding the ideal way to live a happy life but it may come to your surprise
that the answer can be found within yourself. A life worth living is waking up with a positive
outlook on what you do and who you are; for that is the key to having a comfortable, easy going
life. If you focus on what you have rather that what you don t have you ll be much better off, for
gratefulness triumphs over rapacity. Loveyourself and others by being all you can be; until then
the tranquility that comes with said mindset will not be found. An individual s mindset can be
the difference between haven and hardship. By adopting optimistic qualities into to your daily
way of life you ll immensely be better off than those who see the glass half empty. Focusing on
money or social status is not the way to be going about living, as describe by Morrie stating how
he finds materialistic things useless, Don t cling to things, because everything is impermanent.
(Albom, pg.103). Morrie became more connected with reality near his death which raises the
idea that perhaps the knowledge of the end opens the eyes to what is truly worth holding dear for
when time is of the essence the best should be made out of what is left. Filling the void with
expensive goods and or ranking one s self on some imaginary scale of superiority is far from the
mentality needed to find fulfillment. Instead become in tune with your fellow man. You ll find that
selflessness opens the door to an authentic

The Naked Citadel By Susan Faludi
Masculine focused groups like fraternities or all male schools are built off the idea of brotherly
love. These groups exhibit certain qualities of personalities of their members that differ from the
norm of social interactions and love. A possible way of explaining the differences between the
love people are generally accustomed to and a lovebetween males in the context of brotherhood
groups is science. Barbara Fredrickson, author of Love 2.0: How Our Supreme EmotionAffects
Everything We Feel, Think, Do and Become, describes love as a positivity resonance , using
science to explain how it can be thought of as a connection between individuals through small,
positive interactions. Susan Faludi, author of The Naked Citadel, illustrates a... Show more content

Fredrickson s entire basis for what love is, is that it is positivity resonance , and any sense of
negativity is not part of that definition. Fredrickson states, As you interact with one person after
another, they gently nudge you to attend to these others more closely and forge connections
when possible. They shape your motives and behaviors in subtle ways, yet ultimately, their
actions serve to strengthen your relationships and knit you in closer to the social fabric of life,
(Fredrickson 110). The usage of positive language like strengthen and knit, along with the idea of
forging connections, is indicative of what she is trying to say when it comes to what positivity
resonance is, that the interactions between individuals should have positive benefits that will
make their lives better. Fredrickson understands that love should be a valuable bond, shown both
in her definition of love, and how it s explained using science. However, the cadets in The Citadel
do not seem to gain anything valuable from their interactions, at least at first glance. Faludi uses
the school to show how a rigid environment with a power structure can lead to the abusive acts
between the students. Faludi states, ...the Corps of Cadets once again seeks to obscure a domestic
male paradise with an intensifying of virile showmanship and violence. The result is a ruthless
intimacy, in which physical abuse stands in for physical affection, and every display of affection

Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles
Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer together after a
series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and the animals within the
woods. In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, specifically within the storyline related to
Bimaadiz and Eta, animal imagery for the pair are associated with the hope and love for their
relationship while animals for the other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot device
that drive the storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry.
Animal symbolism associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta s relationship is
seen in their interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs. Contrastingly, other villages
interactions with these animals symbolize violence and oftentimes death.
In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death and capture.
The first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is when her village has died of
starvation and as the only survivor she meets a she wolf who she suckles from to survive: With
the rough nipple in front of her face, she latched on and began sucking (Treuer 19). If it wasn t
for Eta s interaction with the wolf, she would have died. The she wolf was able to save her life
and because of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead
villagers have an extremely different interaction with wolves: If there had been anyone to see it,
what happened next would have looked like the most awful of massacres...All that remained
were the half eaten corpses of the villagers. The bodies were badly damaged along with all the
tunics and moccasins and gloves they wore (17 21). Eta s deceased villagers have a more violent
experience with the wolves when they are eaten by them. The word massacre and description of
half eaten corpses is an indication of the violent nature in which the villagers were eaten by the
wolves. It was necessary for Eta survive for her storyline with Bimaadiz to continue, so she was
saved by the she wolf but the other villagers were not necessary to the story and suffered a violent
end. Bimaadiz has a similar experience to

The Felix Valle House State Historic Site
On November 20, 2016, David, Morgan, and I visited the Felix Valle House State Historic Site.
It is located at 198 Market Street in Saint Genevieve, Missouri. This site was built in the early
1800 s. The initial construction of the house began in 1818 and the earliest recorded date of
construction beginning was January 1st. It was started by a man named Jacob Philipson. Mr.
Philipson was a Jewish merchant from Philadelphia who moved to Saint Louis in 1808. He
moved his business down to Saint Genevieve in 1811 and in April of 1818 he purchased a lot of
ground. On this ground, Philipson built a one and a half story Federal Style home which would
end up containing both his personal living quarters and his store. The lot was also home to a... Show

There was a relaxing feeling coming from the room. The colors were pretty mellow such as the
cream colored walls. Although the room gave off this aura, there was a very elegant tea set in
the middle of the room. The wall contained a fireplace while the corner of the room contained a
combination of both a bookshelf and a desk. The desk had a pair of golden glasses that belonged
to one of the men who lived in the home (I can t recall exactly who they belonged to). Aside from
these things, the room also contained what looked like a very comfortable couch. The guide
stated that all of the pieces in the house aside from one fireplace and most of the replicated sales

Three of the four styles were American Style. These had the engravings on the silverware engraved
on the front. However, there was one setting setup different. This setting was the French Style. The
only thing different from the American Style here was that the engravings were found on the back.
This showed us yet again how the times were changing over from French Style to American Style
in what would become Federal Style. Moving from the downstairs to the home s upstairs, you enter

Hiroshima American Bombing
Hiroshima was such an ideal target for American bombing. According to the book, this was because
the city was considered an important place for establishing a military command center. Another
reason was that it was a place where communication would be coordinated from. It was the perfect
city for militaries to station their operations in.
The ruined city had flourished and had been an inviting target mainly because it had been one of the
most important military command and communication centres in Japan, and would have become
the Imperial headquarters had the islands been invaded and Tokyo been captured. (HERSEY, P.

29). Amazingly, he was uninjured and untouched. His first instinct was to help those affected by
the tragic bombing. The author of the book, John Hersey, had a good purpose in telling so many
individual anecdotes about the life before the bomb. He focused on expressing the stories of
these survivors in a way in which the reader could see it from their point of view. His aim was to
demonstrate that each individual was a real human being with real feelings just like us. The author
seeks to make sure that readers understand that the bombings happened to people who had a daily
life and were astonished by what had happened. Hersey demonstrates that the bombing impacted
people who had previously been undergoing a lot in life.
Mr. Tanimoto had taken on the chairmanship of his local tonarigumi, or Neighborhood Association,
and to his other duties and concerns this position had added the business of organizing air raid

The Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep By Philip K. Dick
Dalai Lama accurately describes what a healthy relationship between man and nature is when she
stated that It is our collective and individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in
which we all live. Unlike Lama s beliefs about the environment, Philip K. Dick s Do Androids
Dream of Electric Sheep portrays the consequences and chaos revolving around an unhealthy
relationship humanity has with the Earth. At first, one might assume that the novel Do Androids
Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dickdescribes the correlation between humanity and the
power of empathy. Indeed, this view may be supported by the interactions between Rick Deckard,
the protagonist, and the androids he encounters, and how his beliefs about humanity... Show more

However, Bill is not satisfied with any Rick s offers and declines the transaction. When
analyzing this scene through an ecocritical lens, retailing and profiting from animals is an
ordinary and frequent interaction that many individuals from the novel participate in.
Therefore, this act of profiting from animals shows that many individuals looked at other living
creatures as a method of business. In addition, many people in this time period could not afford
living animals, therefore, it was a common practice for many to buy robotic animals to make the
appearance of owning a real animal to raise one s financial power. In the text, after Rick s
attempts to negotiate with Bill, he decides to demand Bill to give him the foul because if Bill
did not give him the newborn horse, he would be violating Mercer s law, since Rick did not have
any real animals. However, Bill does not know that Rick s animals are synthetic, causing Rick to
show to Bill the concealed control panel of the mechanism (Dick 11). Bill realizes that Rick
owns a fake animal and felt sorry for him You poor guy. Has it always been this way? (Dick 11).
Subsequently, when Rick exposes himself, Bill felt pitiful towards Rick s financial position since
he could not afford a real animal, furthermore, this scene shows that society looks down upon
owning a fake animal. Proving that these

Abstract
This Paper will discuss what theories can explain the deviant behavior of the characters in the
movie Boyz N the Hood.
What Starts Criminal Behavior? History shows that through life violence is a cycle within itself.
Criminology shows different views on how and why criminal behavior happens. By watching the
movie Boyz in The Hood we see the crimes take place and show why these events happened.
Based off the information from class and from past theories I formulate my own theories of why
crime happens.

That s hurts Doughboy and it seems like he is into the streets because that s the only thing that is
giving him the attention that he wants and needs. Doughboy feeds on the attention that he gets
from the streets of L.A. It helps him think he is wanted by people that love him. In his mind it s
a lost relationship with his mother because even if he tries to do stay out of jail, try and do right
by her she still wouldn t care or even notice that he is trying to build a mother son bond between
them. So it gets to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother
Ricky. And he doesn t care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote
he said in the movie saying either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going
on in the hood. He has a good point because the people that do care is either scared to say
anything or has never lived in the ghetto before so they can only go by what other people say that s
happening in the streets.
Most people get killed over what is known as the Code of The Street. In the movie it shows that
their code of the street was revenge. They killed Ricky Doughboy and his friends killed them. It
also shows that violence and crime happens all over something petty. In one scene in the movie
they show Ferris walking into Ricky

Essay about The Civil Rights Movement in the USA
The American declaration of independence stated, that: All men are created equal . But in the 19th
century only whites were born with equal opportunities. Africans were imported as slaves and had
to work on the fields of the whites. Until 1865 the Negroes were treated and looked at as something
lower than human. They were compared to apes, and therefore just owned the same rights as
animals. They were raised believing that whites were superior. It took them years to realize that
they have to stand up for their rights. The uprising turned into a brutal civil war. After the war, the
slaves were freed. The thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendment of the U.S. constitution
prohibited slavery, discrimination and denegation of the right... Show more content on

This was considered illegal and Plessy got arrested. Plessy chose to fight his case in court,
because the segregation laws violated the fourteenth amendment. Four years later, the case was
brought to the Supreme Court. The justices ruled against Homer Plessy. Their decision was that
segregation is legal as long as equal facilities were provided. Justice Henry Billings Brown
summarized, The object of the [Fourteenth] amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the equality
of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could not have been intended to
abolish distinctions based upon color, or to endorse social, as distinguished from political,
equality. . . If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot
put them upon the same plane. This was the opinion of most Justices and the majority of the white
population at that time. From this quote you can see how the people still believed that the races
were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was considered normal in the court and in the
social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally, even though stated within the law, was
ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme Court in this case became law. It did
not gain the Negros any more rights or equal opportunities. Still, it was the first step towards
desegregation. It also made people realize that there was still injustice between the races. Justice

more than the men, but yet are being paid less than what the men are making. They have
experienced rough conditions of the fields when they play their matches, which can lead to serious
career ending injuries. The women have had enough of this situation and they plan to bring this up
to the U.S Soccer Federation, they hope the men will stick up for them and help them fight for

. It s our responsibility to know what s right and what s wrong in the federation and stick up for the
people being torn and brought down from discrimination. The U.S Soccer Federation is being
brought to attention and being investigated of the discrimination towards the women. For example,
The U.S Soccer Federation is a 501 nonprofit and the official governing body of the sport of soccer
in the United States. (Wikipedia1). This clearly demonstrates that the federation is in charge of the
soccer, and it is understood that they are more than capable of changing the discrimination between
the women and the men. The significance is that being the federation they have all of the power to
determine how much pay each national team gets, and only they can do what s right in this
situation. In addition, According to a budget report from the U.S Soccer Federation, the women s
team is projected to bring in more than $17 million in revenues, including a $5 million surplus for a
fiscal year 2017, nearly doubling their male counterparts. (Santhanam1). This quote can help the

  • 2. Organizational Effectiveness Organizational effectiveness is a tool manager s use to measure how effective they; and their organizations are at achieving outcomes and creating value. Organizational effectiveness can be very difficult to measure in an organization. Why? The answer is because organizations can be diverse and very large. Also one organization can have multiple goals and perform many activities at the same time. Managers must decide which indicators they want to measure in order to determine the effectiveness of their organization. There are three approaches managers can use in evaluating effectiveness. They are the external resource approach (Control); the internal systems approach (Innovation); and the technical approach (Efficiency). Each approach... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the external resource approach can be very valuable when other measures are not available it does have its downside. The approach only vaguely considers the organization s link to the needs of customers in the external environment. The internal systems approach allows managers to evaluate how well their organization functions and how smooth it operates. An organization needs to be able to rapidly create products, make services available; and speed up decision making in order to adapt and respond quickly to the forever changing environment. To measure an organization s capacity for innovation the length of time taken to make decisions, the amount of time taken to get a new product on the market, and the amount o f time spent coordinating duties of different departments are all factored in . These factors can often measured objectively (Jones, 2007, p. 17). For example If an organization was to improve its decision making process it would help it to introduce new products or services to the market sooner and keep up with or surpass its competitors in productivity. When organizations make changes to increase employee morale and coordination this can have a direct impact on its ability to respond to the environment. When employees ... • 4. How Do Advertisers Make Advertisements How do advertisers make ads to persuade you? Advertisements implement different strategies in order to persuade the viewers using ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is appealing to the viewers character. Pathos is the way something provokes an emotion. Logos is using numbers and reasoning to persuade an audience. In the anti smokingcampaign ads, the creators test the effectiveness of the ads by appealing to the audience using pathos in two different types of ways. The first ad contains an image of a young adult male smoking a cigarette. The cigarette smoke creates an image of a gun aimed at his head. In the bottom right corner there is a note that says, Kill a cigarette and save a life. Yours. The entire ad is in black and white to create a depressing mood. This ad uses pathos to persuade the audience by provoking the emotion of depression and death of an adolescent. This ad targets a younger audience member along with parents. From a younger person s point of view it looks like the boy is basically committing suicide. From a parent s point of view, it makes them want to stop young people from smoking because it shows it can kill them, so it would be there way of protection. The second ad contains an image of a man that is appealing to the eye. This man is being choked by a cigarette that is acting like a hand. The ad is like a smooth caramel looking color to match along with the man s smooth skin. This ad mainly targets women because the man is Stout 2 appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Auteur Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window Auteur Alfred Hitchcock s suspenseful, darkly comic film, Rear Window (1954) subverts the murder mystery genre to explore the suppressed anxieties and desires of American Individuals and communities. The film is an allegory of their responses to changes in gender roles and domestic life in the post war era. Hitchcock s panopticon set subjects the space of a Greenwich Village apartment building to set a point of view of its immobilized protagonist, confined to his small apartment, where he is predilected to spectate others as a form of escapism and an expression of control. Hitchcock challenges the idea of conservative values such as an active male and a passive female and how Jeff uses his speculations of the performances played out on the courtyard to distance himself from his own fears of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What emerges most clearly is that Jeff s emotional response towards the formation of an intimate relationship is also an indicator of Jeff s skill for emotional detachment. His constant visual omnipotence of prying on others is reflected through his passion of photography, where he prefers to be an observer of life, hypocritically pointing out the mistakes of others by telling them to be careful than to deal with the emotional requirements of being an active participant. Hitchcock substantiates the idea of the male gaze and the proposal of mixing violence with male desires. This is seen throughout the film, where the camera continually employs close up and mid shots of the characters with the intention of presenting women as chopped up pieces of limbs, highlighting the insignificance of women under an objectifying male gaze. In one scene when Lisa is in an argument with Jeff about her unwelcomed encumbrance, Lisa is laying on the bed, and only the top half of her head is captured within the frame. Whilst this is happening, Jeff is leering at Ms. Torso and comments that it must be a hard job to tackle , disregarding Lisa s assertive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Popularity of Preschool and Headstart Programs The parents of today s society are signing up their children for preschool and head start programs more than ever. About seventy five percent of the nation s four year old attend a preschool center, as do fifty percent of three year olds. (Barnett, 2008, page 3). Preschool has long been though to shape a child s academic life, putting a child ahead of the curve in kindergarten and leading them into a successful school career. The primary reason for attending preschool in past decades was the known benefits of socialization, but preschool has changed a lot over the years putting much more emphasis on cognitive development. Gone are the days when children only focused on colors, shapes, and numbers. Today s preschoolers are learning music and second languages. Questions still remain about how successful these programs are when it comes to preparing children for their future academic careers. This paper will examine the known advantages and disadvantages of sending a child off to preschool as well as what qualities a preschool should have. Quality of Care Research has shown that the true benefits of preschool programs are heavily dependent upon the setting and environment in which the learning is taking place. Choosing the correct school is crucial for proper learning and development in preschool aged children. In order to obtain successful outcomes preschools and other types of head start programs should be of high quality, meaning they have experienced teacher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Significant Difference Between The Spanish And New England... In 1492, Columbus came to the New World along with fifty other Spanish men. Those men spread Catholicism throughout the native population, as well as settling to form their own colonies. Year later, settlers from New England began colonizing in the New World spreading beliefs of Puritanism as well as forming an economy apart from the Old World. The role of religion and economy were significantly different during the two different colonizations periods, while the treatment of the native population was significantly similar. The role of religion between the Spanish and New England colonies were significantly different due to the conquistadors and salvation mentality in the Spanish, and the strong Puritan beliefs in the New England colonists. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Spanish colonies the encomienda system setup slavery in the form of labor to the natives. In the Spanish colonies, the natives were set under the encomienda system where the natives were used as slaves for their protection, in return for their labor. The natives were also forced to undergo a conversion in religion under this system. The Spanish soldiers believed natives were only fit to be tortured and killed. If the natives did not convert, the Spanish would torture and kill natives. Similar to the Spanish colonies encomienda system, the New England colonies had indentured servitude. During the early settlements colonists were mostly friendly with the natives. Soon, in the colonies of Virginia and Maryland, chattel slavery and indentured servitude amongst the natives were vast. The English believed the natives were property and compared to animals. In indentured servitude the natives were granted freedom by the English in return for their work, just how to the Spanish granted protection for their labor. For instance, slaves were the main work force when it came to tobacco and sugar in the northern New England colonies. Due to the longevity of the contract the natives were never granted their headrights. On the other hand, in the colony of Pennsylvania the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Obamacare And Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act The Affordable Care Act which is also known as Obamacare and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law on March 23, 2010 and it has not been without its share of problems, debates and controversies. One of the main points of contention with the PPACA is the individual mandate. This paper will look at the worldviews that are involved in the individual mandate, the worldviews of those that oppose the mandate, the roles and limits of the government s side of the mandate issue and the conflicting views and ideas that have come about. The individual mandate requires that most Americans obtain and maintain health insurance, or an exemption, each month or pay a tax penalty . The whole purpose of creating PPACA was to achieve near universal coverage and to do so through shared responsibility among government, individuals, and employers also to be able to improve the fairness, quality, and affordability of health insurance coverage and to be able to improve health care value, quality, and efficiency while reducing wasteful spending and making the health care system more accountable to a diverse patient population .Those were the top three aims that were pointed out in drawing up the policies for PPACA to develop what was hoped to be universal healthcare for the citizens of the United States. While the PPACA does have its benefits, such as it would cover pre existing conditions where most private insurances do not do, more people have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although sweatshop is considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking environment, they are beneficial to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working conditions. Firstly, women choose to work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is their only source step out of unavailable and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being restricted to domestic chores and relying on their husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle that they want to escape but do not know the right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not only chance to create stable income, but also sense of their own independence. The piece as a whole is one that pulls the strings of your heart from the first pound to the last mystic moment of silence. It has been a year since I heard the orchestral piece in full, and ever since, I have been awaiting to get an opportunity like that again. It is unfortunately a rare occurance in my generation to feel so strongly about a piece of art. The world is at our fingertips, and yet we have no urge to explore it. According to Gustav, the Planets were a depiction of life and the many stages of its progression. As a young adult and musician this suite inspired a new way of seeing, feeling, and hearing life. Thierry Fischer, a music director at Utah Symphony wrote, Holst denied that the suite has any connection to the classical Zodiac other than the names and traits of the personified planets, that connection by itself is enough for the music to conjure strong images of the mythological deities associated with each. Mars, the bringer of war, begins with five quiet yet dominant beats in a reverberating 5/4 rhythm. As the movement continues we hear the grinding minor chords, which leaves the ear unsettled. Mars is said to be an obvious illustration of war, the depressing and frightening steady march of soldiers as they walk toward the unknown. Throughout the entire movement there is no clear harmonic release, the chromaticism just sways back and forth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a sign of beauty. Like most beauty, it came with a lot of pain. Why Did It Start? During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Li Yu was one of the emperors. His favorite dancer wore strips of cloth wrapped around her feet. She did this to make her dancing look more beautiful and graceful. It was like ballerina feet almost, perfectly curved and pointed. Because Emperor Li Yu adored her feet so much, he had other court maidens wrap their feet. This practice spread to women all around China no matter their rank. What Made It So Dangerous? The original idea seems harmless, but as the tradition spread, the process became more gruesome. At the start, all they would do is wrap their feet, but not tighten them daily. Women wanted to make their feet tinier and pointier. They wanted their feet to be more curved and doll like. However, it can be described briefly that historical mankind has been mesmerized by the narrative of progress and civilization as codified by the first great agrarian kingdoms (Scott 2011, p.2). By replacing hunters gatherers and nomadic lifestyles with society of agriculture, people witnessed the flourish of many early civilizations in Europe, Asia such as Mesopotamian civilization, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, China dynasties, etc. Besides those big and famous civilizations existed in Europe and Asia, owning to the discovery of American continent of Christopher Columbus in 1492, one of the greatest civilizations ... Art. It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level of aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Approximately between 600 AD and 800 AD, Mayan art witnessed an ever seen era of Maya sculptures (Annequin 1978, p214) with many masterpieces containing greatly aesthetic sense. At this time, as Annequin (1978, p.215) notified the Maya appear to have held the void in horror, and they often crammed surfaces until the impression was overwhelming ; this inspired Mayans to produced much more things such as masks, ceremonial rods, earrings, armlets and mittens by inserting elaborately flamboyant feathers. • 36. Taking a Look at Electric Cars Automobiles have become such an integral part of living in a modern society. Many places in the first world are inexplicably fortunate enough to have such incredible transportation technology at their finger tips. While this technology is a dream, the gasoline powered cars we use today attribute to about 25% of the worlds carbon emissions (Agassi, Shai Agassi: A new ecosystem for electric cars). This is a giant concern, but the car industry may find themselves a little more concerned with the depleting oil that is burned away daily by drivers. It s unavoidable, there needs to be a change made sooner than later, and hybrid isn t solving our problems fast enough. The best alternate choice seems to be a full conversion to electric cars. These cars replace gasoline engines with an electric one, running on battery power. The battery of these cars runs current through the motor to the wheels, operating like a light and a light switch where the increase in speed is similar to having a dimmer on that light (Brain, How Electric Cars Work 1). This technology removes the harmful carbon emission, making it a sustainable solution to our current problems, but it still struggles to be implemented as it has since it was first created. The electric carfinds its inception in the mid 1800 s, sparked by Gaston PlantГ© s invention of the lead acid storage battery in 1851, the original version of what we use in cars today. The numbers of suicides amongst aboriginal youth are even more alarming nearly one fourth of all youth suicides in BC are committed by aboriginals and more than half of all aboriginal suicides are committed by youth (Chandler). The fact that indigenous communities in Canada have the highest rate of suicideof any culturally identifiable group in the world implies that these alarming statistics may not solely be a result of aboriginal communities belonging to a minority cultural group. I will attempt to build a speculative hypothesis behind the significantly high suicide rates amongst aboriginal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening others and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual will not act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit suicide is developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the individual to experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome innate instincts for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in Canada have undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value Aboriginal values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger society) which may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and feel socially alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil the desire to die. Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a suicidal experience, could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the interpersonal psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the picture is incomplete as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients ... When big companies use this ad tactic it surprises people and angeries the feminists of the internet; even though it s been a practice since ads started targeting more than one demographic. Why are women s panties so sexualized? If you think about it, they re just a piece of cotton spandex cloth with some lace or a bow. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Male nipples and female nipples really aren t that different, yet the stigma around the nipple is that women s nipples are a sexy intimate part of the body but the male nipple can be flashed around without a care in the world. The female body is nothing to be so sexualized. Institutions across the United States have used this stigma to negatively affect women in schools, workplaces, and in simple everyday life. On YouTube there are videos upon videos of high school girls getting dress code violations for wearing distracting clothing that simply reveals a collar bone. The schools claim that the clothing is distracting for male students but that s just an insult to both parties. The sexualization of the female body has gotten to preposterous levels, The more legal and material hindrances women have broken through, the more strictly and heavily and cruelly images of female beauty have come to weigh upon us (Wolfe,486). Women have fought hard to overcome prejudices previously held but a simple collarbone could label them as a harlot. In conclusion, advertisers have cashed in on female sexuality, the appeal of youth and the objectification of women to sell us products. Is it wrong for advertisers to do this? The decision comes down to the consumer. If a person believes an ad is objectifying women or the beauty myth, the consumer can always choose a different product to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fredrickson s entire basis for what love is, is that it is positivity resonance , and any sense of negativity is not part of that definition. Fredrickson states, As you interact with one person after another, they gently nudge you to attend to these others more closely and forge connections when possible. They shape your motives and behaviors in subtle ways, yet ultimately, their actions serve to strengthen your relationships and knit you in closer to the social fabric of life, (Fredrickson 110). The usage of positive language like strengthen and knit, along with the idea of forging connections, is indicative of what she is trying to say when it comes to what positivity resonance is, that the interactions between individuals should have positive benefits that will make their lives better. Fredrickson understands that love should be a valuable bond, shown both in her definition of love, and how it s explained using science. However, the cadets in The Citadel do not seem to gain anything valuable from their interactions, at least at first glance. Symbolism In The Translation Of Dr. Apelles Deep within the forest, destiny brings two young Native American lovers closer together after a series of unforeseen tragedies, but not without the help of nature and the animals within the woods. In the novel, The Translation of Dr. Apelles, specifically within the storyline related to Bimaadiz and Eta, animal imagery for the pair are associated with the hope and love for their relationship while animals for the other villagers relate to violence, these animals are a plot device that drive the storyline ensuring that Bimaadiz and Eta remain a couple and eventually marry. Animal symbolism associated with the hope for and love within Bimaadiz and Eta s relationship is seen in their interactions with wolves, deer, moose, and a pack of dogs. Contrastingly, other villages interactions with these animals symbolize violence and oftentimes death. In this novel, animals are used as plot devices to save Bimaadiz and Eta from death and capture. The first experience with animal imagery and Eta in the novel is when her village has died of starvation and as the only survivor she meets a she wolf who she suckles from to survive: With the rough nipple in front of her face, she latched on and began sucking (Treuer 19). If it wasn t for Eta s interaction with the wolf, she would have died. The she wolf was able to save her life and because of that, her story and relationship with Bimaadiz was able to unfold later. The dead villagers have an extremely different interaction with wolves: If there had been anyone to see it, what happened next would have looked like the most awful of massacres...All that remained were the half eaten corpses of the villagers. The bodies were badly damaged along with all the tunics and moccasins and gloves they wore (17 21). So it gets to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother Ricky. And he doesn t care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote he said in the movie saying either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going on in the hood. This was the opinion of most Justices and the majority of the white population at that time. From this quote you can see how the people still believed that the races were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was considered normal in the court and in the social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally, even though stated within the law, was ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme Court in this case became law. It did not gain the Negros any more rights or equal opportunities. Still, it was the first step towards desegregation. It also made people realize that there was still injustice between the races.
