The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini
In the novel, The Kite Runner , written by Khaled Hosseini, was taken place in Afghanistan during the
1970 s to the year of 2002. Many historical events happened during this time period and Hosseini
portrayed it into his novel. Kabul, the capitol of Afghanistan, was a free, living area for many
Afghanistan families to enjoy the life they were given. Until one day, Afghanistan was then taken over
and attacked. In the novel, Amir, the protagonist, must redeem himself and the history behind his
actions because of his past decisions and make himself good again for the Afghanistan people.
Khaled Hosseini was born on March 4th, 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was the oldest of five
children. According to the article, Khaled Hosseini , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amir is Pashtun and Hassan is Hazara. According to the article, The Kite Runner: The Afghan
Tragedy Goes Unexplained , Pashtuns are Sunni Muslims while Hazaras are Shi a Muslims. The
Hazara have different appearances than Pashtun. They called him flat nosed because of Ali and Hassan
s characteristics Hazara Mongolid features (Hosseini 8). The Hazara were Mogul descendants and
their eyes were slightly slanted. This conflict happened in society when Abdur Rahman Khan became
the king of Afghanistan. Khan did not like the Hazara people. He had a negative approach with them
and gave them all a tough time living in Afghanistan. If Baba never let Ali and Hassan live with them
on their property, then Ali and Hassan would be living in the Kazarasjat Mountains. A place that no
one wants to be living. Baba and Ali are half brothers. They kept that a secret from everyone for a long
period of time. Since Hassan and Amir were best friends, when they would go out to fly their kites or
just go out to play and read on rocks, the Pashtuns kids would look at Amir and wonder why he was
friends with a Hazara boy. In the novel, a Pashtun boy and his friends ask Amir why he is friends with
a Hazara boy. If Hassan never lived with Amir, they would have never been friends. Amir does not
find out until later on in the story that him and Hassan are actually related. He finds out when he gets
the phone call to come back to Afghanistan.

Drones Research Papers
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
Bill Gates once said, Drones overall will be more impactful than I think people recognize, in positive
ways to help society. In this quotation, it can easily be seen that Bill Gates can foresee a better future
for society as technology advances. The era of technological advances has impacted many industries
to expand into the new market. Drones have become one of the most important technological
advancements to change the world completely. A drone is a remote less controlled unpiloted aircraft or
missile. The impact goes beyond the traditional battlefield and changes the very concept of war itself.
However, this advancement in technology has sprung a huge debate, The Great Drone Debate. As

military. For instance, according to the article The Rise of the Killer Drones , drones have provided
aerial surveillance over Osama bin Laden s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan (Hastings). This shows
that drones are more a beneficial factor than a threat to the military. UAVs has provided a way for the
military to collect information without placing a single boot on the ground. Military drone surveillance
has improved the amount of information received, as the military adjusts its capabilities or unit. Yet,
drones enhance the way our military leaders decide when to send troops to enemy s line. The squad
leader receives real time data. Drones can easily slip over international borders without being caught,
and a human person is not at risk. For instance, Daniel Bruntesster states in the article, Drones: The
Future Warfare? , Drones will be part of the future of warfare as their advantages can be exploited by
political leaders. Yet, drones are only part of a wide array of surveillance and military options.
Initially, Bruntesster describes lingering over targets as surveillance and a way to obtain information
24/7. The method of surveillance has helped us change the way we track potential targets and
improved our precision on strikes to reduce the number of civilian casualties. According to the article
Michael Hastings: The Rise of the Killer Drones states, the concept of surveillance can be traced back
to the Civil War where hot air balloons gave both the Union and Confederacy advantages by tracking
troops movements and helping to direct artillery fire. The fact that drones can view a target for hours
or days in advance of a strike, and can identify the terrorists better than a ground soldier or a
conventional pilot, helps the military s decision making

Bluetooth Vs. Bluetooth Essay
1.2 Bluetooth application
Bluetooth is designed to operate in an environment of many users. Up to eight devices can
communicate in a
small network called a piconet. Ten of these piconets can coexist in the same coverage range of the
Bluetooth
radio. To provide security, each link is encoded and protected against eavesdropping and interference.
Bluetooth provides support for three general application areas using short range wireless connectivity:
 Data and voice access points. Bluetooth facilitates real time voice and data transmissions by
providing
effortless wireless connection of portable and stationary communications devices.
 Cable replacement. Bluetooth eliminates the need for numerous, often proprietary cable
attachments for
connection of practically any kind of communications device. Connections are instant and are
maintained
even when devices are not within line of sight. The range of each radio is approximately 10 m, but can
be
extended to 100 m with an optional amplifier.
 Ad hoc networking. A device equipped with a Bluetooth radio can establish instant connection to
another Bluetooth radio as soon as it comes into range.
1.3 Bl uetooth Standards Documents
The Bluetooth standards present a formidable bulk well over 1,500 pages, divided into two groups:
core and
profile. The core specifications describe the details of the various layers of the Bluetooth protocol
architecture,
from the radio interface to link control. Related topics are also

Juvenile Justice System And Adult Justice Systems
In this paper, I will be discussing both the juvenile and the adult justice systems. There are several
differences between the two systems, which may surprise you. I will be discussing many aspects
within the justice systems. These include Terminology, Due Process rights, the process of Arrest to
Corrections, Juvenile crime compared to Adult crime, age limits and waivers for the adult system and
the different community correctional options, which are available to the offenders. The two systems
share many of the same terms but not all terms are shared by both systems. In summary, the juvenile
justice system and the adult justice system, vary in many ways and are alike in many ways. Juvenile
Justice and Adult Justice
When it comes to how each state handles the judicial system in their jurisdiction, it varies from state to
state. All states construct their own juvenile judicial system and create their own laws. There are
different beliefs in each state about what will distinguish differences in the juvenile and adult justice
systems. In most jurisdictions, juveniles are considered delinquent and not guilty. ( State Juvenile
Justice Profiles )
Arrests:
In the area of making arrests, law enforcement officers will detain a juvenile in order to provide
protection for them as well as for the community. This is called preventative detention. Not all states
afford juveniles the right to a jury trial. Defendants have the right to apply for bond or bail. All
defendants have a

The Mozart Effect of Boosting IQ
In the world today people have gain an interest in an easy way in order for them or their family to
boost their IQs. It isn t only families who have gain an interest in this type of information. People who
are the most famous at things in which they have done or are trying to do an this people consider
themselves as entrepreneurs are going along with this and trying to build up their IQs because they
feel it may end up helping them in the long run. This people are the ones who are motivation is the
center of this book by Don Campbell called The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal
the Body, Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirit . Music is what has a outstanding result
on individuals because they tend to take time to listen to Music, and this people are the ones who
possess a high IQ. {With the hypothesis that was given the dependent variable is IQ and the
independent variable is the one that stands out the most Music .
Dr. Gordon Shaw, Francis Rauscher and Katherine Ky came up with an ideal in order to take what
information was given an test it, so they started what is known as an Experiment. The early testing
about what was the effect of music in an individual was started in 1988. This is when another
individual by the name of Gordon Shaw who was a neurobiologist, along with a scholar student

Line Between Personal Privacy And The Greater Good
Where is the line between personal privacy and the greater good? Some people would argue that it is
never ok for an official to have access to their personal information. Officials should not be able to use
information they obtained from private devices or social networking sites in order to protect the
community
They should not be able to go through people s phone because they might have personal information
on it and they should ask if the person is ok for either the police or the principle to go through their
phone. For example, at a school if a fight breaks out, and a student has recorded it and posted it the
principle should not be able to go through the person s phone, because it is not the principal s
responsibility it is the parent s responsibility to work things out with the student. Others think that
punishing students for what they do on the web is the responsibility of parents, not schools. I ... Show

not be able to go look through the kids phone. The kids parent is responsible for the kid off school

Themes Of Beauty And Mortality In Romanticism
Romanticism is a term that is difficult to define both historically and conceptually. It was not, in its
own time, a romantic movement. To discuss how the themes of beauty and mortality are intertwined in
Romantic poetry I will be focusing on one major Romantic poet, William Wordsworth. According to
the Oxford Dictionary, Beauty is defined as a beautiful or pleasing thing or person in particular, and a
combination of qualities such as shape, colour, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses especially
sight. Mortality is defined as the state being subject to death. To intertwine these themes it would
mean having a theme that describes the beauty in all things, characters, nature, scenery and how these
will all die and fade away but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should she ever be far from him he prays that she remember how they stood together in this place and
that he came there with great energy and love. He asks she never forget how, after five years, he
returned, and felt a greater love for the beautiful place because she was with him. The theme of
memory is also very central to this poem. He not only visited Tintern Abbey, he remembered it.
Wordsworth himself knows that he will always have these fond memories for the rest of his life and
now, with this poem everyone who reads it will also be able to share, somewhat, what he experienced.
The realism of the poem is clear to us because the iambic pentameter resembles spoken English, thus
making us feel more connected to it. To My Sister is a poem dedicated to Dorothy. It is sensuous
evoking our senses of sight, smell and touch, once again reinforcing beauty within nature. Wordsworth
wants his sister to come outside and enjoy the openness with him and seize the day. There is an
urgency and excitement to his request. It is created with the use of an exclamation mark. He tells his
sister that their hearts will make silent laws if they allow themselves time to enjoy the beautiful spring
weather. Some silent laws our hearts will

Uranus Experiments
Before being known as a planet Uranus was mistaken for a star. Probably the first time that Uranus
was observed was by Hipparchus of Nicaea. Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star. Hipparchus
may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into Ptolemy s
Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the garden of his
house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a series of observations
on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design.
When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had found a
comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So, William
was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote to
Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a regular
planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric ellipsis. I
have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2).

otherwise. Other astronomers started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jay Gatsby Character Analysis
People are not born into greatness, but they can achieve greatness. Jay Gatsby is one man who started
with nothing and came to have millions. Gatsby meets this admirable girl, Daisy, and it is love at first
sight. While Jay Gatsby is fighting in the war Daisy is heartbroken and end up marrying Tom
Buchanan. Five years after Jay Gatsby returned from the war he buys the house across the water from
Daisy. Gatsby is determined to rekindle their love and live happily ever after together. Daisy
Buchanan and Jay Gatsby do get back together for a brief time, but they never live happily ever after
together. Jay Gatsby is a great man because he accomplishes the American dream, he is a true friend,
and he unconditionally loves Daisy.
Jay Gatsby is born in North Dakota to dirt poor farming parents. His plan is to make a name for
himself and move onto more immense things. He is born with the name James Gatz that he later
changes to Jay Gatsby. After meeting the love of his life Daisy, Jay is sent of to the war. He becomes a
respectable hero in this war and then proceeds to go to Oxford. Jay returns from the war, After the
Armistice he tried frantically to get home but some complication or misunderstanding sent him to
Oxford instead (Fitzgerald 158). A boy born into poverty being able to go to college is quite the
accomplishment. Instead of dwelling on the fact that his parents are penniless he takes matters into his

the theme of survival as they fight through the story. Nya South Sudan 2006 2009 conflicts water,

B. Ecological and Behavioral Information from Field Studies Methods Palma et al. (2011) observed
the habitat use, behavior, and ecology of two particular groups of red howler monkeys in the

diets of the two groups. The groups habitats were tracked by carefully marking trees, and the howler
monkeys activity patterns were split into five categories: feeding, moving, resting, social activities,
and other. The howler monkeys diets were recorded by noting the species and types of plant matter

Based on feeding time, howlers spent slightly over half of their time consuming leaves (50.6%),
followed by their time spent consuming mature and immature fruits (40.2%). Conversely, based on the
mass of dry matter intake, leaves only accounted for 37% of their diet, whereas fruits accounted for
58.2%. After recording almost 400 howling bouts for a little over a year, Van Belle et al. (2013) found
that 42.1% were spontaneous calls (calls with no discernable external stimuli), 27.9% were reply calls
(calls following nearby howling without visual contact with the original caller or callers), 25.1% were
intergroup encounter calls, and 5.0% were extragroup encounter calls. The average interval of howling
bouts was approximately fifteen minutes, and intergroup and extragroup encounter calls lasted
significantly longer than spontaneous and reply calls. Considering the time of day, black howler
monkeys peaked howling bouts around dawn, and considering location, black howler monkeys were
in designated core areas (i.e., primary habitats where groups spend over 50% of their time) during the
majority of howling bouts. Discussion The evolution of trichromacy in howler monkeys is
extraordinary since no other platyrrhine species routinely expresses this quality (i.e., regular

Descriptive Statistics And Its Impact On The Visualization...
Introduction Statistics, the cornerstone of any empirical study, are the foundation for analyses. In this
instance, descriptive statistics, which are data points that describe the distinct qualities of a population,
will be explored. Descriptive statistics, the first step of analyzing data, allow for the values to be
represented, summarized, and interpreted in a meaningful, but simple, way. Exploring descriptive
statistics may provide for the appearance of a pattern or aid in the visualization of the collective
information; however, researchers are not able to establish conclusions based on these statistics.
Another aspect of statistics is frequency, which is the number of times that each variable occurs during
the study. Descriptive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of the experiment conducted was to determine the correlation, if any, between Texas A M
student alcohol consumption each week and the number of classes missed per week. Given the
abilities and constraints of descriptive statistics, choosing to focus on this type of statistic allowed for
the student to properly view the overall information, since there were many interacting values.
Method
In this study, the participants were randomly selected throughout a two week period (N = 35). The
people were all Texas A M students, ranging from freshman to senior classifications (M = 2.71, SD =
1.07, freshman to senior recorded as 1 to 4). The continuous predictors for this experiment were the
participants ages and how many alcoholic beverages that they said they consumed per week. The
participants had a mean age of of 20.43 (SD = 1.58). The variables in this study were how many
classes a student missed per week, how many hours they were taking, how likely they were to miss
class after a night of drinking, and how enjoyable class was after a night of consuming alcohol. How
likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking and how enjoyable class was the morning after
drinking were rated on a scale from 1 to 10. However, the scale for likelihood to miss class after a
night of consuming alcohol was with 1 being unlikely and with 10 being most likely. Whereas, for the

The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful

Abstract
In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few
have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of
simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable,
semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK).
1 Introduction
Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access
points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note,
though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The
development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet.
Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been
extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In
addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the
compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Furthermore, the draw back of this type of
solution, however, is that the much touted homogeneous algorithm for the in

Math Experience In My Life
At an early age, I was bad at math, yet I knew it would be my passion. Throughout elementary school,
I gave into the idea that I lacked intelligence enough to pursue mathematics seriously in school, and
later on in my life. Nonetheless, math found itself back into my life during my middle school years
and solidified its presence within my life.
I was the dumb kid in class, unable to add and subtract, unable to memorize the multiplication table.
Before, I found joy in knowing. To this date I remember what seemed like witchcraft as my father, on
one of his rare visits home from work, showing me how squares worked when I was five. The
Japanese education system in my first and second grade placed value in the ability to memorize rules
and tables. The better one was at memorization, which felt to me the mindless recounting of
multiplication and division and the ability to just know the answer, was needed for success. I wanted
to know why the number four was four. What it really meant. What does it mean that there are two
less from six? Why were Eight things divided by two equal the same as the square of two? I was
interested in the hows and the whys of numbers, not just its identity. For this reason, I was not deemed
successful and was not seen as a student with prospects. Despite my seeming lack of talent in the
mathematical field, I knew, I knew somehow that math was my passion. I was successful in the math
classes in the elementary school in America. All that was required of

The First Programmable Computer Ever Created
The first programmable computer ever created, ENIAC made in 1946 sparked a promising
advancement in technology. Each passing generation brought a new groundbreaking advancement in
computer technology. And with each advancement, the previous generation quickly became obsolete.
A computer made in 1985 would almost certainly be inferior to a computer made the next year. But a
computer made in 2010 can still be widely used and integrated into 2016 computing. This leads me to
believe that improvements in computers are slowing down and furthermore, that computer technology
is plateauing.
Arguably the most important creation would be the integrated circuit which allowed cpus and the
circuit board to pack more power into a smaller design. But after this technology was created, there
was a noticeable lack of any more groundbreaking advancements. Each technology generation alters
circuit physics and requires new computer aided design software. (Markov). Markov makes a good
point here. He says that for every stone we pass in technology, circuit physics advances or changes
and we must account for it. When this happens, we must also change the means in which we
manufacture, typically with computer design software. Take for example when the integrated circuit
was created, we could not use obsolete technology in our chips and electronics, Small scale integration
(SSI) of the integrated circuit began in 1964, seeing their first use in early aerospace projects. The next

Steve Job Death
In 2005, Steve Jobs delivered an inspiring and thought provoking commencement speech to the
graduating class of Stanford University. His speech addressed the concept of death, and how people
should let the idea of death motivate them to take charge of their lives. Individuals only have one life,
and Jobs stated that one should be able to look in the mirror as if it were their last day and be proud of
what they have done. There is some merit to his conclusion, especially from a Christian view point.
Christians only have one life to live, and their actions and lives should be a testament to what God has
done in their lives. However, some of his remarks fall into the vein of a godlike mindset, where
individuals should live like it is their last day, regardless of what that may mean to each individual.
While for humans it is natural to think that they deserve to live their lives the way they desire,
humanity s true identity lies in being image bearers of God whether individuals realize that calling or
not. Death should motivate people to live a life they are proud of, but it should also drive individuals
to look toward the author of humanity and the purpose He has for each them. ... Show more content on

When Jobs says that even people who want to go to heaven do not want to die, he was completely
accurate. Christians should not fear death because of the promise of everlasting life God has given
through his son Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, people are still human, with emotions and thinking that
question and even dread death. God innately designed people to desire fulfillment, and to humanity,
death denies wholeness that people crave (Birch, 2017, p. 62). When individuals do not find their
calling or goal, it may feel like experience[ing] death already , walking aimlessly through life (p. 65).

Positive And Effective Communications With News Media Essay
Positive and effective communications with news media are critical to La Salle University s ability to
achieve its mission: To help students gain theoretical and practical knowledge, deepen their ethical
sensibilities, and prepare for a lifetime of continuous learning, professional success, and dedicated
service. Positive media relations practices result in earning news stories that promote the University as
a whole; expand the visibility of the Office of the President; and ensure that truthful information is
reported to the public regarding incidents of a sensitive nature. Such media placements additionally
help to attract prospective students, solicit continued financial and volunteer support, and maintain a
positive reputation for La Salle locally in Philadelphia, regionally in the Northeast, and nationally.
This guide is intended to define the approved processes for interacting with the news media. News
media refers to journalists and content creators for local, regional, and national newspapers,
magazines, television and radio stations, and online publications.

The British parliament passed four policies during 1765 to 1767, Stamp Act, Quartering Acts,
Townshend Duty Act and Declaratory Act. They were all approved after French and Indian War.
Because of the British troops won the battle with French in North American in 1763, as a matter of

British government passed these four laws. But these laws didn t achieve the desired results.

In the same year, another important policy Stamp Act was promulgated. Law passed by parliament in
1765 to raise revenue in America by requiring taxed, stamped paper for legal documents, publication,

Colonists fought against this policy. For example, a group of people planned to intimidate Andrew
Oliver to make him quit office in August 1765. (Goldfield, P125). And they also required British
government to repeal Stamp Act. Finally, in 1776, parliament ended the Stamp Act, but it approved the
Declaratory Act at the same day (Goldfield, p126). This was a statement saying the colonies should

Perugino influenced the way that Raphael thought about art and also helped him form a style of his
own. These years in the life of Raphael proved to be his most impressionable. Perugino taught the
basic laws of painting to the young Raphael and showed him what art really was. At this time in
Raphael amp;#8217;s life his works mimicked those of Perugino, but still many say that his works
breathed an independence of their own. Raphael, had a precious talent right from the beginning and
was an innate absorber of influences (Web Museum 2).
In many of Raphael amp;#8217;s early works of art he echoes the style of Perguino, like that in the
painting St. George and the Dragon. The style of Raphael in his early twenties proved in many aspects
to far exceed those of Perugino.
Raphael took a journey to Florence in 1504 to learn more about the happenings taking place in the
fastest growing portion of Italy. While in Florence, he embraced new methods and techniques, adopted
from those of Leonardo da Vinci. From da Vinci, Raphael learned how to balance and individualize
his figures in every work that he would fabricate from that day forward. Raphal amp;#8217;s
paintings now took on a much more vibrant and electric approach.
Raphael took a special liking to Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, and Jesus Christ, the Son of God. In

Data And Data Analysis Paper
The world is converging toward a critical point in history where the question has to be asked, will
there be enough resources to go around? Populations around the globe are growing and moving out of
poverty towards the consumption based lifestyles of western countries. This means more is needed,
more oil, more water, and more food. These resources are finite, limited, and often wasted. Through
the use of technology and data, these resources can be better utilized. Data and data analysis will allow
these systems to be optimized to produce more and waste less. The goal of this project is to use data
and apply it to the field of plant growth and agriculture. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a data driven
technology that seeks to integrate and connect everyday devices and sensors. This data infrastructure
can be used for a variety of applications such as home automation, industrial manufacturing,
healthcare, and smart agriculture. Although each application is derived from a significantly different
field, the underlying communication protocols are very similar and must adhere to similar constraints.
The constraints of low power devices, lossy links, noisy environments, and embedded
microcontrollers with limited memory and processing power. These protocols are the basis of the IoT
protocol stack. They create the framework that determines how data is transferred within an IoT
network [3][4]. The focus of active IoT research is shifting towards data, how data is sent, how

Fedex, The Most Successful Companies Of The World Essay
FedEx is considered one of the most successful companies in the world. When founder Fred Smith
was in college, he wrote a paper that outlined a system that would deliver time sensitive items quickly
(fedex.com). In 1971 his idea came to life and FedEx was born in Little Rock, Arkansas (fedex.com).
In the 45 years they ve been operating they still keep their Purple Promise. That s the nickname of
their motto to make every FedEx experience outstanding (fedex.com). Innovative services such as
overnight shipping needed to match with excellent customer service.
Their website, which was founded in 1994 (wired.com), allowed customers to track their packages
within seconds. Package tracking allows a customer to follow their packages and gives peace of mind
that important items have met their destination. Prior to the inception of their website, a customer
would have to call to track their package. While still an option, many people prefer the ease of
tracking from their computers or smartphones. Their application Ship Manager can be installed on a
customers website so they can determine shipping charges and print labels from home or the office
(textbook, p. 22). Instead of nurturing an isolated environment from business owners, FedEx looks to
integrate their services within a businesses management information system. We allow customers to
drag and drop names from their address books into FedEx Ship Manager, says FedEx CIO Robert

A New Medical Dram Marcus Welby Essay
In 1969 the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) aired a new medical drama called Marcus
Welby, M.D. The title character was a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who made house calls, had a
kind bedside manner, and was on a first name basis with most of his patients. The drama highlighted
the meaning of caring for the whole person, not just a specific part of the body. Unfortunately those
days are gone, just when we need them the most. It is projected that the demand for PCP s will rapidly
increase due to an aging population and health care reform, leaving a shortage of over 20,000
physicians by the year 2020 ( Projecting the Supply, 2013).
A healthy primary care base is critical to the running of an effective health care system. People who
have access to PCP s are more likely to receive preventive and timely care for medical conditions.
Having a PCP is also associated with fewer emergency department visits and fewer hospital
admissions (Abrams, Nuzum, Mika, Lawlor, 2011). Developed countries have made primary care the
foundation of their healthcare system. The U.S. followed this model until 1949, and since that time
PCP s have been steadily declining (Shi Singh, 2015). A study by West and Dupras in 2012 showed
that only 21.5 percent of third year internal medicine residents intended to continue on and make
general internal medicine their career (Shi Singh, 2015). Today, most medical school graduates are

Two Women in Proverbs 9 Essay
Two Women in Proverbs 9 Proverbs has always been one of the most renowned and loved books of
the Bible. According to the prologue, it was written to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and
prudence to the young (1.4), and to let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning
acquire skill (1.5). It is primarily addressed to young men, as the author makes frequent references to
my son throughout. The purpose of this book was to help prepare young men for leadership and life. A
proverb, which serves the purpose of drawing a comparison between two forms of behavior to teach
moral wisdom, explicitly fulfills its role in particularly chapter 9 of Proverbs. In light of this father to

The reward of the assiduous will far exceed that of the indolent in the long run. Lady Wisdom and
Lady Folly not only own their own homes, but they are situated at the highest places in the town (9.3,
9.14). Because both women dwell at the promontories of their respective cities, they are able to look
out and gain a perspective that is much broader than those who are standing on level ground. They
have the advantage of being able to observe other people and what they are doing. By being able to
observe others every move, their neighbors are at their most vulnerable state without even being aware
of it themselves. Lady Folly uses her advantageous location to remember the weaknesses of others
that she catches and files them in her memory storage for later use. While Lady Folly uses young men
s weaknesses by using them against them solely for her own gain, Lady Wisdom selflessly uses her
high promontory for the benefit of others. She uses the information she learns, to teach others their
mistakes and to help them in any way she can. The speaker is portraying the importance of leadership
that instead of being consumed with their own selves, the young men must also be able to pinpoint
others strengths and weaknesses to help them, not to use against them. The next similarity that these
women share is that they both call out to people, inviting them over to their respective houses. Lady

From mutants to aliens, superhumans and demigods, the idea of a hero has been an immense subject

beyond human is reflected the most in movies and comics. What is the first thing that popped into
your head when you heard the word hero Superman? Ironman? Batman? The term shouldn t be

Even though the definition of hero has changed drastically over the years, characters in The Odyssey,
an epic that describes the journey of Odysseus trying to return to his home, Troy, exhibit traits that can
apply to both the ancient and modern definition of a hero. The main character, Odysseus, isn t the only
one. For example, after being stuck on an island due to a storm, Odysseus and his crew are faced with
a decision to either starve, or kill the sun god s (Helios) cattle. One of Odysseus first mates,
Eurylochus, was thinking about how that would affect the entire crew. After weighing the pros and
cons, he stated: Comrades, he said, All deaths are hateful to us, mortal wretches, but famine is the
most pitiful, the worst end that a man can come to. Will you fight it? (879 83). Contemplating
consequences, Eurylochus then decided that they would eat the cattle and suffer the wrath. The quote
shows that Eurylochus was thinking about his crew, and was deciding on the best possible course of
action for him and his men. He stated that he and his comrades would rather die from the gods than to
suffer through famine. Consequently, his actions proved heroic the first thing he thought of was how it

four legged creatures or those that may slither and frighten even the most ardent animal lover. Still, the

Economic Factors In The 17th Century And The Dutch East...
In the 16 and 17th century, and the Dutch East India Company (VOC) was very profitable and a large
employer. They were also the world s largest commercial entity in the 17th and 18th century, which
employed approximately 30,000 people. They carried goods and slaves across the Atlantic Ocean. One
of the major historical significances of VOC is that they were the first country to build an entire
empire of trading in numerous countries. Their willingness to find the sailing routes, turned out to be a
great success, which opened a tremendous amount of opportunity for them to trade, and VOC
strategically took complete advantage of the opportunities. As with everything in history, the results of
the Dutch East India Company are both good and bad. Investors formed the first corporation with the
joint venture stock company in 1602. They combined assets to gain power, and they had a monopoly
to trade with the Indies Asia and the Indian Ocean. Their motive was profit; they fixed prices. The
Dutch East India Company s had an immoral side as they could get countries to trade goods against
their will with either by persuasion or violence. The VOC was lawless and protected and built up its
monopoly. Dutch financial power is still powerful today. The economic philosophy of mercantilism
grew and presumed the world s wealth was fixed, it didn t matter that one county could suffer
economically at the expense of another (Pollard, pg.xxxxx).

Racial Stereotyping
Racial stereotyping is a classification of beliefs about distinctive characteristics of members of the

Racial stereotyping is still evident today proven by police brutality being justified. Over 20 percent of

Dreams, Beliefs, And The Elements Of Culture
Marcus Garvey, once said, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is

Abstract:
Green tea, an unfermented leaves is rich in catechins. Catechins are known to lower the lipid by un
regulating lipid metabolizing enzyme via NF KB and thereby stimulating fat oxidation. Black tea
results from the fermentation of green tea in which catechins of green tea is converted to theaflavin
and thearubigin, which have some significant health benefits of their own. Theaflavin is responsible
for reduced lipid accumulation, suppressed fatty acid synthesis, and stimulated fatty acid oxidation by
inhibiting acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase activities.
A literature review of a total of 8 Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs), 5 Meta analyses consisting of
75 peer reviewed Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs) on 5319 subjects and 6 population based

The Debt Crisis Of 2008 Greece Essay
In 2008 Greece was not influenced by the crisis but later in 2009 the country fell into recession and

prepare a program for Greek economy. The Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the Troika

Puppy Mill California Essay
CALIFORNIA BECOMES THE FIRST STATE TO BAN PUPPY
MILLS.
California becomes the first state in the US to put an end to puppy mills.
According to the new laws, pet stores have to work with NGOs, animal shelters or rescue operations
in order to sell a dog, cat or rabbit.
Puppy mills or puppy farms are places where the animals are bred for sale and profit. Every year
thousands of animals are born in unhygienic and filthy conditions in puppy mills which further causes
diseases and death of the animal. Puppy mills have always been criticized as they only work for profit
and do not keep animal welfare in mind. The animals are often excessively bred and kept in over
crowded dog farms. Sometimes the animal has often developed certain diseases or ailments ... Show

Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said: This landmark law breaks the puppy mill supply chain that
pushes puppies into California pet stores and has allowed unscrupulous breeders to profit from
abusive practices.
Governor Jerry Brown who passed this considerate law has currently passed no comment on his
verdict.
In February this year, it was also made illegal to sell puppies below eight weeks old as this is a very
crucial time for both the mother and kids and it is for the best of the pups stay with the mother during
this crucial time.
Anyone selling a litter of three or more pups would also have to apply for a formal license to go ahead
for the practice. This ensures proper and humane treatment of the animals. Often breeder abuse
animals for their profit and are bred imprudently even when their bodies can not handle pregnancy.
Most of them are also bred at an early age only for the sole purpose of more than desired profit and
human greed.
Although the decision did not go without any criticism as some of the breeders felt strongly against it
and showed their unhappiness

standoffish. The void left by his parents was never filled with anything good what William used to

The Importance Of Current Science Books
Has anyone noticed how the desire of children (or brats, as we like to call them) to know, to
understand and to learn about their environment, has declined significantly over the years? Why, when
we were kids (you know when we walked ten miles to school), it wasn t unusual to see second graders
going through the chapters of their science books and digging up experiments that simply used a
mirror, water, and sunlight to demonstrate the formation of rainbow colours. The results challenged
the mind and instantly brought up questions that would not rest until their answers had been sought
out. This sort of healthy curiosity was common in the past but is gradually decreasing with time.
Nowadays science has become just another boring subject ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most students nowadays will agree that science is the worst thing that happened to them, that it was
forced upon them by their parents and was completely based on bookish knowledge.
The biggest problem seems to be the lack of lab equipment and real lab classes. At its core, science is
not a theoretical subject. It is based on physical experiments. A boring lecture on refraction can never
replace the wealth of practical information and visual feedback obtained in the lab. Through practical
lessons, kids will be able to cultivate an ability to think by themselves through experiments in physics,
chemistry and biology. Even in the A Level course, we don t have the opportunity to conduct our own
experiments but we race to finish the questions in the question paper and pull at our hair when the
answers don t come out right. The teachers are so bent upon completing the syllabus that they seem to
forget that they have a responsibility of making the subject more exciting to us. This was the general
combined opinion of most of the senior students of English medium schools.
Even the teachers agreed. The unanimous opinion was that even if a student, purely through his/her
interests, wants to pursue the ways of science, the unavailability of the right books and equipments
poses a barrier. When I asked a teacher at this institution whether students were

Capricornus Research Paper
The constellation that I have chosen is Capricornus. Capricornus is one of the twelve zodiac
constellations, and it symbolizes the sea goat. The best time to see this constellation would be at ten o
clock at night in September and October, especially if you live in the Northern Hemisphere. I chose
this constellation because according to Astrology I am a Capricorn and thought it would be interesting
to know more about the constellation relating to my zodiac sign. Capricornus has five stars with
planets in it s constellation. The myth of the constellation Capricornus is of Greek origin. This is the
mythological story of how the constellation Capricornus was created. The Olympian Gods had battled

They named the first one Adonios and the second one Claudios. Adonios had been born of the two
human halves of Tywin and Atlissa, while Claudios had been born of the fish and goat halves. Adonis
always excelled in everything he did and was often cruel and boastful about it to Claudios. One day
Claudios and Adonios were out playing by the river where their parents had met and a beautiful
woman walked by. Adonios ran to her and began talking to her, but the beautiful girl denied Adonis.
Later that night Claudios awoke to a beautiful sound outside and wondering what the sound was went
to find out. Claudios found the beautiful girl outside by the pond, and walked over to talk to her. The
girl introduced herself as Mara and told him she was a water nymph. Soon the two fell in love and
every night they would meet by the water side. One night Adonios followed Claudios and found out
his secret, and being enraged and hurt, confronted them. He swore he loved Mara from the day they
met and had thought of nothing but her every day. Claudios tried explaining his feelings to his brother
but Adonios was far too angry and powerful for Claudios to defend himself. Adonios pulled Claudios
to the water and began ripping him apart. Mara begged

Kabul, the capitol of Afghanistan, was a free, living area for many Afghanistan families to enjoy the life they were given. Until one day, Afghanistan was then taken over and attacked. In the novel, Amir, the protagonist, must redeem himself and the history behind his actions because of his past decisions and make himself good again for the Afghanistan people. The Hazara were Mogul descendants and their eyes were slightly slanted. This conflict happened in society when Abdur Rahman Khan became the king of Afghanistan. Khan did not like the Hazara people. Baba and Ali are half brothers. They kept that a secret from everyone for a long period of time. Since Hassan and Amir were best friends, when they would go out to fly their kites or just go out to play and read on rocks, the Pashtuns kids would look at Amir and wonder why he was friends with a Hazara boy. In this quotation, it can easily be seen that Bill Gates can foresee a better future for society as technology advances. The era of technological advances has impacted many industries to expand into the new market. Drones have become one of the most important technological advancements to change the world completely. For instance, according to the article The Rise of the Killer Drones , drones have provided aerial surveillance over Osama bin Laden s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan (Hastings). This shows that drones are more a beneficial factor than a threat to the military. UAVs has provided a way for the military to collect information without placing a single boot on the ground. Military drone surveillance has improved the amount of information received, as the military adjusts its capabilities or unit. Yet, drones enhance the way our military leaders decide when to send troops to enemy s line. The squad leader receives real time data. Drones can easily slip over international borders without being caught, and a human person is not at risk. For instance, Daniel Bruntesster states in the article, Drones: The Future Warfare? , Drones will be part of the future of warfare as their advantages can be exploited by political leaders. Yet, drones are only part of a wide array of surveillance and military options. Initially, Bruntesster describes lingering over targets as surveillance and a way to obtain information 24/7. The method of surveillance has helped us change the way we track potential targets and improved our precision on strikes to reduce the number of civilian casualties. According to the article Michael Hastings: The Rise of the Killer Drones states, the concept of surveillance can be traced back to the Civil War where hot air balloons gave both the Union and Confederacy advantages by tracking troops movements and helping to direct artillery fire. The fact that drones can view a target for hours or days in advance of a strike, and can identify the terrorists better than a ground soldier or a conventional pilot, helps the military s decision making ... Up to eight devices can communicate in a small network called a piconet. Ten of these piconets can coexist in the same coverage range of the Bluetooth radio. To provide security, each link is encoded and protected against eavesdropping and interference. Bluetooth provides support for three general application areas using short range wireless connectivity:  Data and voice access points. Bluetooth facilitates real time voice and data transmissions by providing effortless wireless connection of portable and stationary communications devices.  Cable replacement. Bluetooth eliminates the need for numerous, often proprietary cable attachments for connection of practically any kind of communications device. Connections are instant and are maintained even when devices are not within line of sight. The range of each radio is approximately 10 m, but can be extended to 100 m with an optional amplifier.  Ad hoc networking. A device equipped with a Bluetooth radio can establish instant connection to another Bluetooth radio as soon as it comes into range. 1.3 Bl uetooth Standards Documents The Bluetooth standards present a formidable bulk well over 1,500 pages, divided into two groups: core and profile. The two systems share many of the same terms but not all terms are shared by both systems. In summary, the juvenile justice system and the adult justice system, vary in many ways and are alike in many ways. • 8. Line Between Personal Privacy And The Greater Good Where is the line between personal privacy and the greater good? Some people would argue that it is never ok for an official to have access to their personal information. • 9. Themes Of Beauty And Mortality In Romanticism Romanticism is a term that is difficult to define both historically and conceptually. It was not, in its own time, a romantic movement. To discuss how the themes of beauty and mortality are intertwined in Romantic poetry I will be focusing on one major Romantic poet, William Wordsworth. According to the Oxford Dictionary, Beauty is defined as a beautiful or pleasing thing or person in particular, and a combination of qualities such as shape, colour, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses especially sight. Mortality is defined as the state being subject to death. To intertwine these themes it would mean having a theme that describes the beauty in all things, characters, nature, scenery and how these will all die and fade away but the ... He asks she never forget how, after five years, he returned, and felt a greater love for the beautiful place because she was with him. The theme of memory is also very central to this poem. He not only visited Tintern Abbey, he remembered it. Wordsworth himself knows that he will always have these fond memories for the rest of his life and now, with this poem everyone who reads it will also be able to share, somewhat, what he experienced. The realism of the poem is clear to us because the iambic pentameter resembles spoken English, thus making us feel more connected to it. To My Sister is a poem dedicated to Dorothy. It is sensuous evoking our senses of sight, smell and touch, once again reinforcing beauty within nature. Wordsworth wants his sister to come outside and enjoy the openness with him and seize the day. There is an urgency and excitement to his request. It is created with the use of an exclamation mark. He tells his sister that their hearts will make silent laws if they allow themselves time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Some silent laws our hearts will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star. Hipparchus may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into Ptolemy s Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the garden of his house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a series of observations on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design. When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had found a comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So, William was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a regular planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric ellipsis. I have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2). Descriptive statistics, the first step of analyzing data, allow for the values to be represented, summarized, and interpreted in a meaningful, but simple, way. Exploring descriptive statistics may provide for the appearance of a pattern or aid in the visualization of the collective information; however, researchers are not able to establish conclusions based on these statistics. Given the abilities and constraints of descriptive statistics, choosing to focus on this type of statistic allowed for the student to properly view the overall information, since there were many interacting values. Method In this study, the participants were randomly selected throughout a two week period (N = 35). The people were all Texas A M students, ranging from freshman to senior classifications (M = 2.71, SD = 1.07, freshman to senior recorded as 1 to 4). The variables in this study were how many classes a student missed per week, how many hours they were taking, how likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking, and how enjoyable class was after a night of consuming alcohol. How likely they were to miss class after a night of drinking and how enjoyable class was the morning after drinking were rated on a scale from 1 to 10. The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful The Producer Consumer Problem Considered Harmful Shyam Rangrej and Kushang Gonawala Abstract In recent years, much research has been devoted to the exploration of DHTs; on the other hand, few have simulated the construction of architec ture. In this position paper, we demonstrate the study of simulated annealing. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the Internet can be made certifiable, semantic, and optimal, but rather on motivating an analysis of write ahead logging (INK). 1 Introduction Recent advances in stable modalities and au tonomous epistemologies are rarely at odds with access points. The notion that physicists collude with A* search is usually excellent. On a sim ilar note, though such a hypothesis is always a confirmed purpose, it fell in line with our expec tations. The development of voice over IP would greatly amplify the simulation of the Ethernet. Motivated by these observations, the under standing of randomized algorithms and agents have been extensively developed by scholars. The basic tenet of this method is the deploy ment of IPv6. In addition, we allow random ized algorithms [23] to provide self learning the ory without the compelling unification of sensor networks and A* search. Throughout elementary school, I gave into the idea that I lacked intelligence enough to pursue mathematics seriously in school, and later on in my life. Nonetheless, math found itself back into my life during my middle school years and solidified its presence within my life. I was the dumb kid in class, unable to add and subtract, unable to memorize the multiplication table. Before, I found joy in knowing. To this date I remember what seemed like witchcraft as my father, on one of his rare visits home from work, showing me how squares worked when I was five. The Japanese education system in my first and second grade placed value in the ability to memorize rules and tables. The better one was at memorization, which felt to me the mindless recounting of multiplication and division and the ability to just know the answer, was needed for success. I wanted to know why the number four was four. What it really meant. What does it mean that there are two less from six? Why were Eight things divided by two equal the same as the square of two? I was interested in the hows and the whys of numbers, not just its identity. For this reason, I was not deemed successful and was not seen as a student with prospects. Despite my seeming lack of talent in the mathematical field, I knew, I knew somehow that math was my passion. I was successful in the math classes in the elementary school in America. Each passing generation brought a new groundbreaking advancement in computer technology. And with each advancement, the previous generation quickly became obsolete. A computer made in 1985 would almost certainly be inferior to a computer made the next year. But a computer made in 2010 can still be widely used and integrated into 2016 computing. This leads me to believe that improvements in computers are slowing down and furthermore, that computer technology is plateauing. Arguably the most important creation would be the integrated circuit which allowed cpus and the circuit board to pack more power into a smaller design. But after this technology was created, there was a noticeable lack of any more groundbreaking advancements. Each technology generation alters circuit physics and requires new computer aided design software. (Markov). Markov makes a good point here. He says that for every stone we pass in technology, circuit physics advances or changes and we must account for it. When this happens, we must also change the means in which we manufacture, typically with computer design software. Take for example when the integrated circuit was created, we could not use obsolete technology in our chips and electronics, Small scale integration (SSI) of the integrated circuit began in 1964, seeing their first use in early aerospace projects. • 20. Steve Job Death In 2005, Steve Jobs delivered an inspiring and thought provoking commencement speech to the graduating class of Stanford University. His speech addressed the concept of death, and how people should let the idea of death motivate them to take charge of their lives. Individuals only have one life, and Jobs stated that one should be able to look in the mirror as if it were their last day and be proud of what they have done. There is some merit to his conclusion, especially from a Christian view point. Christians only have one life to live, and their actions and lives should be a testament to what God has done in their lives. However, some of his remarks fall into the vein of a godlike mindset, where individuals should live like it is their last day, regardless of what that may mean to each individual. While for humans it is natural to think that they deserve to live their lives the way they desire, humanity s true identity lies in being image bearers of God whether individuals realize that calling or not. Death should motivate people to live a life they are proud of, but it should also drive individuals to look toward the author of humanity and the purpose He has for each them. ... In 1971 his idea came to life and FedEx was born in Little Rock, Arkansas (fedex.com). In the 45 years they ve been operating they still keep their Purple Promise. That s the nickname of their motto to make every FedEx experience outstanding (fedex.com). Innovative services such as overnight shipping needed to match with excellent customer service. Their website, which was founded in 1994 (wired.com), allowed customers to track their packages within seconds. Package tracking allows a customer to follow their packages and gives peace of mind that important items have met their destination. Prior to the inception of their website, a customer would have to call to track their package. While still an option, many people prefer the ease of tracking from their computers or smartphones. Their application Ship Manager can be installed on a customers website so they can determine shipping charges and print labels from home or the office (textbook, p. 22). Instead of nurturing an isolated environment from business owners, FedEx looks to integrate their services within a businesses management information system. We allow customers to drag and drop names from their address books into FedEx Ship Manager, says FedEx CIO Robert Carter. The integration provided makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. A New Medical Dram Marcus Welby Essay In 1969 the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) aired a new medical drama called Marcus Welby, M.D. The title character was a Primary Care Physician (PCP) who made house calls, had a kind bedside manner, and was on a first name basis with most of his patients. The drama highlighted the meaning of caring for the whole person, not just a specific part of the body. Unfortunately those days are gone, just when we need them the most. It is projected that the demand for PCP s will rapidly increase due to an aging population and health care reform, leaving a shortage of over 20,000 physicians by the year 2020 ( Projecting the Supply, 2013). A healthy primary care base is critical to the running of an effective health care system. People who have access to PCP s are more likely to receive preventive and timely care for medical conditions. Having a PCP is also associated with fewer emergency department visits and fewer hospital admissions (Abrams, Nuzum, Mika, Lawlor, 2011). Developed countries have made primary care the foundation of their healthcare system. The U.S. followed this model until 1949, and since that time PCP s have been steadily declining (Shi Singh, 2015). A study by West and Dupras in 2012 showed that only 21.5 percent of third year internal medicine residents intended to continue on and make general internal medicine their career (Shi Singh, 2015). According to the prologue, it was written to teach shrewdness to the simple, knowledge and prudence to the young (1.4), and to let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill (1.5). It is primarily addressed to young men, as the author makes frequent references to my son throughout. The purpose of this book was to help prepare young men for leadership and life. Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly not only own their own homes, but they are situated at the highest places in the town (9.3, 9.14). Because both women dwell at the promontories of their respective cities, they are able to look out and gain a perspective that is much broader than those who are standing on level ground. They have the advantage of being able to observe other people and what they are doing. By being able to observe others every move, their neighbors are at their most vulnerable state without even being aware of it themselves. Lady Folly uses her advantageous location to remember the weaknesses of others that she catches and files them in her memory storage for later use. While Lady Folly uses young men s weaknesses by using them against them solely for her own gain, Lady Wisdom selflessly uses her high promontory for the benefit of others. She uses the information she learns, to teach others their mistakes and to help them in any way she can. The speaker is portraying the importance of leadership that instead of being consumed with their own selves, the young men must also be able to pinpoint others strengths and weaknesses to help them, not to use against them. The next similarity that these women share is that they both call out to people, inviting them over to their respective houses. Lady Folly calls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the definition of hero has changed drastically over the years, characters in The Odyssey, an epic that describes the journey of Odysseus trying to return to his home, Troy, exhibit traits that can apply to both the ancient and modern definition of a hero. For example, after being stuck on an island due to a storm, Odysseus and his crew are faced with a decision to either starve, or kill the sun god s (Helios) cattle. One of Odysseus first mates, Eurylochus, was thinking about how that would affect the entire crew. After weighing the pros and cons, he stated: Comrades, he said, All deaths are hateful to us, mortal wretches, but famine is the most pitiful, the worst end that a man can come to. Will you fight it? They were also the world s largest commercial entity in the 17th and 18th century, which employed approximately 30,000 people. They carried goods and slaves across the Atlantic Ocean. One of the major historical significances of VOC is that they were the first country to build an entire empire of trading in numerous countries.
