This document summarizes key findings from a white paper analyzing a survey of cloud computing executives. It finds:
1) There is consensus around defining cloud computing as involving on-demand provisioning of infrastructure, platforms and software as a service. Benefits include reduced costs and faster innovation.
2) Data security, governance and compliance are top concerns but surmountable with private cloud architectures and clear contracts.
3) Both large and small companies will shape the industry through investments, innovation and potential acquisitions.
4) Rapid adoption of cloud services, especially software as a service, is expected as companies seek costs savings during economic difficulties.
Dr. Htaw Lay provides a report on the Shwe Pyi Tha Clinic in Myanmar for 2008. The clinic was constructed in 2006 and has since provided medical services to the community. In 2008, the clinic saw a total of 3660 patients, performed one delivery, and provided free consultation or treatment to over 700 people through regular services and medical outreach. While the clinic has land and basic facilities, expanded services are limited by the need for additional buildings and resources. The mission of the clinic is to provide physical, mental, social and spiritual healing to those in need and promote Adventist health messages in the community.

Cloud services provide on-demand access to IT resources and applications over the Internet. There are three layers of cloud services: infrastructure (e.g. servers), platform (tools to build apps), and applications (SaaS). SaaS is growing rapidly among SMBs as it allows outsourcing functionality at lower costs. Infrastructure services provide flexibility but don't address scaling or management costs. Platform services abstract infrastructure, allow scaling, and significantly reduce development and operational costs. Concerns around data governance, availability, and security are impacting adoption, driving growth of private clouds which provide more control. Ultimately, both vendors and customers share accountability for security and data ownership.
The document summarizes a Community Health Promoters’ Training Course (CHPTC) run by the Health Ministries Department of the Myanmar Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. The 7-month course trains female students in basic medical skills and has graduated nearly 600 students since 1995. Graduates often work in mission clinics, private clinics, and hospitals or as health promoters in their villages. The school requests donations of teaching models, equipment, and funds to continue training and feeding students.
This document summarizes techniques for scaling GIS applications, including caching, asynchronous processing, instrumentation, and architecture approaches. It discusses caching at different levels (file-based, in-memory), as well as negative caching. Asynchronous processing using queues is presented. Instrumentation methods like logging, tracing, and performance counters are covered. Web control and service-based architectures are compared. The document concludes with an example of how these techniques helped one application scale to support 900 simultaneous users compared to only 30 for another approach.

Love Villa Orphaning center is sponsored by International Children Care from Australia. There are 5 houses caring for 87 orphans with caregivers. Most children are from the local area and survived a cyclone, from Buddhist families. The youngest child is 5 months old and oldest is in college. The document goes on to describe several of the children and houses, including a woman who adopted 5 children because she felt bad that they would die otherwise. It then shifts to describing Myanmar's Parahitah orphan house, which the author visited as a child and remembers the sad boys there. It closes by providing more details about the 32 children living there now, supported by only 2 caregivers.
This document tells the story of "Auntie Jo's house" in Myanmar, which provides support to orphans and children from the local Buddhist neighborhood. It began when the author's family purchased a house for their parents' retirement in 1996. After their father passed away, the house was named "Auntie Jo's house" in honor of an elderly British woman who was like a mother to the author. In 2008, the house began offering worship services, Bible study, education support, and basic medical care to local children. It has faced challenges from neighbors and lack of resources but continues its important work in the community with support from visiting pastors and volunteers. The author expresses gratitude for support and prayers as plans are made to
Corporate Social Responsibility is defined as a form of self-regulation where businesses monitor their adherence to law, ethics, and social norms. Businesses embrace responsibility for their impacts on stakeholders like the environment, customers, employees and communities. Potential benefits include improved human resources, risk management, brand differentiation and license to operate. However, critics argue that CSR may distract from profit-making or be used for commercial benefit rather than social good.

Ondernemen vanuit je hart. Why, how, what en Simon Sinek.
