HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION
As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government
Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak
District, one of the backward districts in Telangana. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the
former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980.
The college had its modest beginning in the existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students,
and 2 UG courses of study.
NAAC Accreditation:
In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited
the College with B-Grade in March 2008, in first cycle of assessment again with ‘B’ in the second cycle of
assessment in February 2016.

2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
Capacity Building, Career Planning & Goal Setting,
Personality Development.
 The IQAC of the college has developed several quality assurance mechanisms within the
existing academic and administrative activities of the institution.
 It plans and supports the institution in conducting workshops, awareness programs,
sensitization programs, invited talks, teaching, learning and evaluation procedures.
 Implementing the strategic plans made in the beginning of the year, by communicating
the plans / policies of IQAC to the stakeholders.
 Collecting, analysing, feedback from students, parents, alumni and informing and
suggesting the staff about its outcome for improvement.
 Empowering the students through several programs arranged by various supporting
committees and cells constituted by the institution.
 Supports to organize awareness programs, Personality Development Programs, Career
Guidance Programs and Value added programs.
 Established linkages with other colleges, NGOs and other organisations.
 Motivating teachers to participate in research and extension activities.
 Enhanced quality through the usage of ICT based and innovative teaching, learning
methods.
 Promoting teacher’s participation in faculty development programmes.
 Fostering innovations and creativity in students through VIPANI (an Entrepreneurship
day), Academic fest,display of study projects etc.
 Approaching district officials, CCE, Local Political leaders and corporate bodies for the
enhancement of infrastructure, for sanction of additional posts and for filling up of
vacancies.

The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and
the outcome achieved by the end of the year.

 Students feedback on lecturers performance, on
curriculum, Alumni feedback and parents feedback
were collected, analysed and correction measures
were taken up, wherever required.
3. To increase intake by
organising motivational
campaign at junior colleges
 Principal and staff visited surrounding junior
colleges and motivated the admission seekers, there
by the admissions in to first year UG course
increased.
4. To encourage more practical
learning and to improve E-
learning facilities
 Practical learning was provided by arranging
industrial visits, educational tours. Arranged field
trips to Warangal, Basara, Bhadrachalam, Manjeera
dam etc.
 To enhance ICT based training, three class rooms
were converted into digital class rooms.
 Staff members and students were also motivated for
the wide usage of ICT based and innovative
teaching, learning practices.
5. To empower and sensitise
women.
 To sensitise and empower women students, legal
awareness and sensitisation programme was
organised in collaboration with District Legal
Services Authority. Sri.Durga Prasad – Dist. Judge,
Circle Inspector Sri.Laxma Reddy, Six advocates
participated and sensitised the students about various
legal aspects, provided counselling and motivated to
build confidence to face any difficult situation and
explained about the need to empower themselves.
6. To promote research
activities.
 Our students belonging to all departments, with the
initiation of the faculty, participated in surveys and
prepared study projects.
 Three faculty members have registered for Ph.D.
 Seven members presented eleven papers at National

level seminars.
7. To celebrate relevant National
and International days.
 To instil national fervour, discipline, and human
values and to create awareness, important days like
World population day, Hiroshima day, Human rights
day, World AIDS day, National Unity Day, Ozone
day, Science day, C.V.Raman Birth day, Tourism
Day etc. were celebrated.
8. To have Linkages and
collaborations with
organizations for the benefit
of the students.
 Linkage with CEDM (Centre for Educational
Development of Minorities) – Govt. of Telangana to
provide coaching for competitive examinations to
our alumni, students and to job seekers of the
community.
 Linkage with COIGN institute, Hyderabad – to
provide Career guidance through CCE initiated
DISHA – UNDP programme.
 Linkage with Ambedkar Study Circle for constables
Coaching.
 Patanjali Yoga Samaj to provide Yoga training.
 With ID college and other colleges for academic
cooperation and exchange of resources.
9 To provide consultancy  Income Tax consultancy was provided to staff and
employees of other organisations by Department of
Commerce.
10. To approach CCE for filing
up of vacancies.
 Approached CCE, RJD for filling up of vacancies, 2
posts were filled with regular faculty and 2 posts
with contract faculty.
11. Continue to hold best
practices and to introduce
Innovative practices.
 The college has so many best practices and
innovative practices to its credit. Vipani,
Communication skills day, Modati Adugu, Academic
fest etc. were organized. Important days were
celebrated.
 Workshop on clay Vinayaka was conducted by
Department of Botany.
 Study projects were displayed by all the departments.
 Environment consciousness programmes were
organized, planted and donated tree saplings.
 Our students provided training to the mentally
challenged people of Sabitha educational society.
 Through Fistful of rice scheme, rice was collected
and donated to poor people.
12. To ensure involvement of
staff and students in keeping
the surroundings clean.
 All our students and staff participated in Swachch
Bharath and Haritha Haram programmes to keep

surroundings clean and green.
 Through Swatch and Shrest environment programme
students created awareness about cleanliness, health
and hygiene in surrounding areas.
13. To strengthen career guidance
cell and to provide coaching
for competitive exams and
P.G. entrance guidance.
Career guidance cell was strengthened and it conducted
 P.G. entrance and competitive exams coaching by
involving all the faculty members from 07.11.2016
to 01.12.2016.
 Conducted workshop on softskills on 17.01.2017.
 Importance of curriculum vita on 28.09.2016.
 Employment registration on 28.01.2017 in
coordination with District Employment exchange.
 Workshop on Entrepreneurship on 13.02.2017.

 IQAC has conducted internal academic audit as per
seven criterias of all departments and support

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:
Through deliberations in its meetings IQAC contribute to improve teaching and learning process by
 Playing supportive role in preparing academic calendar in consultation with the faculty members
in the beginning of the year and chalking its implementation throughout the year.

The following initiatives are taken by IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the
institution
 Constitutes, guides and monitors a research committee called Gnana Vedika which encourages
the faculty to apply for research projects and to monitor the progress of the project.
 To attend and submit research papers in National and International Seminars.
 To apply and attend for training courses like Orientation and Refresher etc.,
 Sharing information about the upcoming conferences,seminars and workshops among staff.
 Well-equipped library facility with text books, reference books and journals.
 Providing Computers and Internet facility to the staff and students.
 To tap the potential, for increasing the research activities and advancement in the concerned

AQAR – 2016-17 GDCW, Sangareddy Page 6 HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak District, one of the backward districts in Telangana. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980. The college had its modest beginning in the existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students, and 2 UG courses of study. NAAC Accreditation: In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited the College with B-Grade in March 2008, in first cycle of assessment again with ‘B’ in the second cycle of assessment in February 2016. AQAR – 2016-17 GDCW, Sangareddy Page 13 2.15 Plan of Action by IQAC/Outcome The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. To start need based certificate courses  Department of Commerce organised Tally ERP .9 certificate course.  NCC and Physical Education organised Yoga certificate course. 2. To strengthen feedback system  Students feedback on lecturers performance, on curriculum, Alumni feedback and parents feedback were collected, analysed and correction measures were taken up, wherever required. 3. To increase intake by organising motivational campaign at junior colleges  Principal and staff visited surrounding junior colleges and motivated the admission seekers, there by the admissions in to first year UG course increased. 4. To encourage more practical learning and to improve E- learning facilities  Practical learning was provided by arranging industrial visits, educational tours. Arranged field trips to Warangal, Basara, Bhadrachalam, Manjeera dam etc.  To enhance ICT based training, three class rooms were converted into digital class rooms.  Staff members and students were also motivated for the wide usage of ICT based and innovative teaching, learning practices. 5. To empower and sensitise women.  To sensitise and empower women students, legal awareness and sensitisation programme was organised in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority. Sri.Durga Prasad – Dist. Judge, Circle Inspector Sri.Laxma Reddy, Six advocates participated and sensitised the students about various legal aspects, provided counselling and motivated to build confidence to face any difficult situation and explained about the need to empower themselves. 6. To promote research activities.  Our students belonging to all departments, with the initiation of the faculty, participated in surveys and prepared study projects.  Three faculty members have registered for Ph.D.  Seven members presented eleven papers at National

To celebrate relevant National and International days.  To instil national fervour, discipline, and human values and to create awareness, important days like World population day, Hiroshima day, Human rights day, World AIDS day, National Unity Day, Ozone day, Science day, C.V.Raman Birth day, Tourism Day etc. were celebrated. 8. To have Linkages and collaborations with organizations for the benefit of the students.  Linkage with CEDM (Centre for Educational Development of Minorities) – Govt. of Telangana to provide coaching for competitive examinations to our alumni, students and to job seekers of the community.  Linkage with COIGN institute, Hyderabad – to provide Career guidance through CCE initiated DISHA – UNDP programme.  Linkage with Ambedkar Study Circle for constables Coaching.  Patanjali Yoga Samaj to provide Yoga training.  With ID college and other colleges for academic cooperation and exchange of resources. 9 To provide consultancy  Income Tax consultancy was provided to staff and employees of other organisations by Department of Commerce. 10. To approach CCE for filing up of vacancies.  Approached CCE, RJD for filling up of vacancies, 2 posts were filled with regular faculty and 2 posts with contract faculty. 11. Continue to hold best practices and to introduce Innovative practices.  The college has so many best practices and innovative practices to its credit. Vipani, Communication skills day, Modati Adugu, Academic fest etc. were organized. Important days were celebrated.  Workshop on clay Vinayaka was conducted by Department of Botany.  Study projects were displayed by all the departments.  Environment consciousness programmes were organized, planted and donated tree saplings.  Our students provided training to the mentally challenged people of Sabitha educational society.  Through Fistful of rice scheme, rice was collected and donated to poor people. 12. To ensure involvement of staff and students in keeping the surroundings clean.  All our students and staff participated in Swachch Bharath and Haritha Haram programmes to keep

To strengthen career guidance cell and to provide coaching for competitive exams and P.G. entrance guidance. Career guidance cell was strengthened and it conducted  P.G. entrance and competitive exams coaching by involving all the faculty members from 07.11.2016 to 01.12.2016.  Conducted workshop on softskills on 17.01.2017.  Importance of curriculum vita on 28.09.2016.  Employment registration on 28.01.2017 in coordination with District Employment exchange.  Workshop on Entrepreneurship on 13.02.2017.  Career opportunities to commerce graduates on 16.03.2017. 14.
