HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION
As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government
Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak
District, one of the backward districts in Telangana. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the
former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980.
The college had its modest beginning in the existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students,
and 2 UG courses of study.
NAAC Accreditation:
In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment and Accreditation
Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited
the College with B-Grade in March 2008, in first cycle of assessment again with ‘B’ in the second cycle of
assessment in February 2016.

2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
Capacity Building, Career Planning & Goal Setting,
Personality Development.
 The IQAC of the college has developed several quality assurance mechanisms within the
existing academic and administrative activities of the institution.
 It helped in implementing NAAC peer team ((Ist Cycle) Recommendations.
 Provided guidance in preparing the ground for NAAC assessment.
 It plans and supports the institution in conducting workshops, awareness programs,
sensitization programs, invited talks, teaching, learning & evaluation procedures.
 Implementing the strategic plans made in the beginning of the year, by communicating
the plans / policies of IQAC to the stakeholders.
 Collecting, analyzing, feedback from students, parents, alumni and informing to the staff
about its outcome for correction.
 Empowering the students through several programs arranged by various supporting
committees and cells constituted by the institution.
 Supports to organize awareness programs, Personality Development Programs, Career
Guidance Programs & Value added programs.
 Established linkages with other colleges, NGOs & other organisations.
 Motivating teachers to participate in research and extension activities.
 Enhanced quality through the usage of ICT based and innovative teaching, learning
methods.
 Promoting teacher’s participation in faculty development programmes.
 Fostering communal harmony by exhibiting cultural replicas of Indian festivals,
celebrating Bathukamma & Eid-Milap etc..
 Infrastructure enhancement:- Hostel was completed, 3 additional class rooms, students
toilets and cycle shed were constructed,compound wall was reconstructed,wherever it
was broken.
 Fostering innovations and creativity in students through VIPANI ( an Entrepreneurship
day), Hobby day, display of study projects etc.,

Our students belonging to all departments, with the
initiation of the faculty, participated in surveysand
study projects and submitted project reports like
Mission Kakatiya, My village – My nation,
Potentiality for Rural markets etc.

 Established linkages with Manjari Photo
studio, Sangareddy., Ganga Nursery,
Sangareddy for training the students.
 Linkage with Ambedkar Study Circle for
constables Coaching.
 SC & SC clinic and Patanjali Yoga Samaj
for promoting health and Yoga training.
 With ID college and other colleges for
academic cooperation and exchange of

5. To provide consultancy  IT consultancy was provided to staff and
employees of other organisations.
6. To approach CCE for filling up of
vacancies.
 Approached CCE, RJD for filling up of
vacancies, one librarian post was filled.
7. Speeding up of pending work of
Hostel
 Hostel was inaugurated and students are
staying in it.
8. Improving infrastructural facilities  With the initiation of the IQAC and Principal
BHEL has completed construction of 3 class
rooms, Arabindo Pharma has taken up
construction of toilets under CSR and
Compound wall was constructed by Housing
board authorities with the initiation of Dist.
Collector.
 Alumni of the college donated furniture to
the college and books to the students.
9. Continue to hold best practices and
to introduce Innovative practices.
 The college has so many best practices and
innovative practices to its credit. Vipani,
Communications skills day, Modati Adugu,
Mock Assembly, Cultural replicas of Indian

festivals etc. were organised Important days
were celebrated.
 Workshop on clay Vinayaka was conducted
by Dept. of Botany.
 Study projects were displayed by all the
departments.
 History photo exhibition, Seed Museum
were arranged.
 Environment consciousness programmes
were organised, Planted and donated tree
saplings.
 Our students provided training to the
mentally challenged people of Sabitha
educational society.
 Through Fistful of rice scheme rice was
collected and donated to poor people.
10. To ensure involvement of staff and
students in keeping the
surroundings clean.
 All our students and staff participated in
swachch Bharath and Haritha Haram
Programmes to keep surroundings clean &
Green.
 Through Swatch & Shrest environment
programme students created awareness about
cleanliness, health and hygiene in
surrounding areas.

students got placements.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:
Through deliberations in its meetings IQAC contribute to improve teaching and learning process by
 Playing supportive role in preparing academic calendar in consultation with the faculty members
in the beginning of the year and chalking its implementation throughout the year.

However college is conducting internal exams like slip tests,unit tests,assignment tests,First Term,

The following initiatives are taken by IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the
institution
 Constitutes, guides and monitors a research committee which encourages the faculty to apply for
research projects and to monitor the progress of the project.
 To attend and submit research papers in National and International Seminars.
 To apply and attend for training courses like Orientation and Refresher etc.,
 Sharing information about the upcoming conferences,seminars and workshops among staff.
 Well-equipped library facility with text books, reference books and journals.
 Providing Computers and Internet facility to the staff and students.
 To tap the potential, for increasing the research activities and advancement in the concerned
subject, Faculty Forum was started in the college by IQAC in which faculty members present
papers.

 Modati Adugu: Through this program students are formed into groups to create awareness about

 Cultural Replicas of Indian festivals: Under the super vision of cultural club, students and various
departments prepared cultural replicas of Indian festivals and show cased on the day of VIPANI on
27.11.2015. It attracted all the students and visitors. It helped in promoting communal harmony as

 Hobby Day: With the initiation of CCE we are organising “Hobby Day” program on 3rd Saturday of

8. Plans of institution 2016-17:
The plan of action chalked out by IQAC for quality enhancement is as follows
 To conduct survey at local level to know the potentiality for starting new UG&PG
courses and start new courses accordingly during 2017-18.
 To start need based and value added certificate courses.
 To strengthen mechanism to obtain feedback from stake holders
 To increase intake by organising motivational programs at junior colleges.
 To involve Alumni members and students in teaching and learning programmes.
 To plan for more student centric activities.
 To encourage more practical learning through project works, educational tours.
 To Improve E-Learning facilities.
 To encourage to under take minor and major research projects, organise more
workshops and seminars.
 Staff training programmes to be arranged to update advancement in various skills and to
encourage to update in concern subjects through faculty forum.
 To motivate teachers to publish papers in referred journals and to write text books.
 To promote extension activities and involve more students and staff to participate in
these programmes.
 To have MOUs with more organizations for academic and research cooperation.
 Capacity building in terms of infrastructure to handle additional courses.
 To approach corporate sector, concerned authorities and political leaders to raise funds
for the development of the college.
 To conduct gender sensitization certificate course in coordination with Asmitha NGO.
 Convergence meet to be conducted in which teaching, non-teaching staff, class
representatives will be present to discuss about the progress as well as problems if any.
 Staff and departmental meetings to be arranged every month to review the progress.
 Staff council, IQAC, CPDC, UGC Planning board committee meetings to be held at
regular intervals to review academic, administrative, financial and quality enhancement
aspects.
 To implement NAAC peer team recommendations and to prepare long term action plan
for this purpose.
 To provide coaching for competitive examinations and PG entrance.
 To strengthen career guidance cell.
 To train and equip students with required skills for promoting women empowerment.
 To hold best practices and promote more eco-friendly activities.
 To inculcate moral and ethical values among students.
 To strengthen stake holders relationships.
 To strengthen internal audit mechanism.

AQAR – 2014-15 GDCW, Sangareddy Page 6 HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak District, one of the backward districts in Telangana. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980. The college had its modest beginning in the existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students, and 2 UG courses of study. NAAC Accreditation: In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited the College with B-Grade in March 2008, in first cycle of assessment again with ‘B’ in the second cycle of assessment in February 2016. To ensure involvement of staff and students in keeping the surroundings clean.  All our students and staff participated in swachch Bharath and Haritha Haram Programmes to keep surroundings clean & Green.  Through Swatch & Shrest environment programme students created awareness about cleanliness, health and hygiene in surrounding areas. 11.
