• Agitator : An agitator is something which is
used to stir liquid or mixture of liquids.
• What it can do ? : It can be used in various
operations, in a pharma industry it can be
used in multiple operations like reactions,
work up's, drying, filtration, etc.
• Agitation : It refers to the induced motion of a
“homogenous” material in a specified way.

• Mixing of Solids.
• Slurry Mixing.
• Used during Crystals
forming phase during
Super saturated Cooling.
Application of Turbine
• Liquids and Gas reactions.
• Highly used during Reaction and
Extraction Operations.
Application of Screw type Agitator
• Have to use in addition to other agitators.
• Mostly used in Food processing.
Application of Helical Blade
• Most Probably used in Paint industry.
• They operate with minimal clearance
at the vessel wall and provide axial
flow at low speed.
Application of Anchor
• Highly used in Pharma Industry for Several
Operations.
• The anchor agitator/impeller is close
clearance, radial flow impeller used for mixing
of viscous liquids.
Application of Gate
• Highly used for blending Operations.
• They are used in wide shallow tanks and for
materials of high viscosity when low shear is
adequate
Application of Propeller
• Suitable for GLR's, ANFD's, can handle
Corrosive materials with Glass lining.

Process Considerations
• This requires matching the your process
requirements with the correct impeller design. Based
on your requirements in terms of product,
blend/residence time, and rheology, we match the
impeller type, vessel design, power, and speed, to
arrive at an optimum impeller selection.
Power Considerations
• Once the process aspects of the mixer design are
finalized, we’ll need to optimize a final design that
uses power efficiently. This could mean altering
the D/T (impeller to Tank Ø) ratio to produce the

• It should be designed to have a mechanical life of 20
years. The key to efficient mechanical design is
understanding the forces acting on the mixer. Mixers
are dynamic machines with fluctuating loads and
forces. Shafts are usually overhung with no lower
support.
