This document discusses key principles of agile project management. It begins by explaining why agile is gaining popularity, namely that it allows for flexibility and faster delivery of results through frequent small deliveries and continuous customer feedback. It then presents the agile manifesto which prioritizes customer satisfaction, welcoming changing requirements, frequent delivery of working software through short iterations, close business/developer collaboration, self-organizing teams, face-to-face communication, measuring progress through working software, sustainability, technical excellence, simplicity, and self-reflection. The document suggests considering environment, team, ceremonies, tools, and techniques to make projects more agile and stresses the importance of self-organizing teams, time-boxing requirements, people
5 Pitfalls of Project Management Software Implementation Project Insight
Prospective customers often ask how they can assure a successful software implementation. There are many contributing factors, but to put simply, the answer for a successful implementation: You must have a product that fits your needs, leadership to sponsor your implementation, and a business process defined that blend with the software you’ve selected. For Hamlet it was life or death. For agile evangelists it sometimes seems to be the same. How do you introduce agile safely?
I am curious about new ways of working, but also cautious of going too far. You may be wondering what new agile practices to adopt. Perhaps you are already making the same discoveries I have over the past six years.
I work in the middle of the organisation, and have moved from a civil engineering waterfall background to introducing agile in change management. I would like to share with you this story of planting many agile seeds and helping them grow:
Is it practical to choose agile for our change projects?
Can we effectively use it for design and construction projects or indeed anything we do in the business?
Should we continue to use some waterfall techniques?
Can we sprinkle some agile thinking into the waterfall domain?
You may recognise some of the challenges I experienced. Often the lessons come from where it didn’t go as planned. There are also many success stories; memorable moments when it all clicks together and spurs us on in the next step of our maturity.

An introduction to "agile development" and what "agility" means in the world of software. Principles to embrace, culture changes to pursue, and so forth.
We've all experienced the tension that occurs between designers, product managers, and engineers during release time. Scope creep is one key culprit, but another one that isn't often talked about amongst teams is when and how to handoff specs, designs, and code. In this presentation, Poornima Vijayashanker, formerly founding engineer at Mint.com, and currently Founder of two startups BizeeBee and Femgineer discusses about:
* How to setup a process for handoffs that is flexible.
* How to measure the success of the process and refine it over time.
* How to coordinate with teams outside of product and engineering in order to meet business goals.
About the Speaker
Poornima Vijayashanker is a software engineer, entrepreneur, speaker, blogger, and lecturer. After graduating from Duke University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer science she moved out to Silicon Valley to begin her career as an R&D Engineer. After a couple of years she was lured into startup land. Here first startup was Mint.com, where she was the founding engineer. After Mint's acquisition, she transitioned from being a founding engineer to a founder. Currently she is the CEO & Founder of two startups: BizeeBee and Femgineer, and is spending the fall of 2013 lecturing at Duke University. When she's not running companies and building products she's practicing Bikram yoga, cooking, or traveling around the world.

The Learn Phase: Recasting the Agile ManifestoTraction
In this episode of The Learn Phase, Goyo asks how can a creative agency that focuses on creating marketing and advertising in a digital world take advantage of the 12 principles of the Agile Manifesto.
Modern Agile – What's It Good For? - Jacob Creech - AgileNZ 2017AgileNZ Conference
The Agile Manifesto has been around since 2001 and, although the industry has rapidly developed, the principles still hold very true. However, there are lots of great new ideas that people have been experimenting with since the Manifesto was signed and, in this talk, attendees will hear about a few of these developments, focusing on the concept of Modern Agile.
About Jacob Creech:
Jacob started out in web development around 2000 and discovered that people constantly asked for things they didn't actually need, which led him on a journey of discovery that ended up in this thing called 'Agile'. He found himself in China helping develop virtual products for Second Life and then as the one and only non-Chinese person in a web development agency – good for language practice, not so much for delivering amazing work.
After some time back in New Zealand on a usability product among other things, he returned to China to co-found an Agile consulting company, worked with a variety of large, impressive-sounding international companies at a scale that would make most New Zealand cities look tiny, and managed to stumble into a range of interesting opportunities all around Asia that kept him busy for the next few years.
However, after some time, he got the itch to return to NZ and ended up at Assurity in late 2015 where he now heads up the Agile practice and works with government and non-government clients to deliver work in ever-improving ways. In his spare time, he (poorly) plays table tennis and enjoys naming babies after entrepreneurs.
Regardless of what type of work you do, there may be benefits to applying some of the ideas articulated in the Agile Manifesto. This talk illustrates a few first steps you can take and try to uncover opportunities to improve how you deliver value.

Data is power. AI changes everything.
If the claims about both are true, how can we ensure we use data and AI well? And what does it mean for the very things which make us human - our feelings?
In this workshop Carole will draw on material from her ground-breaking book, Neuroscience for Project Success: why people behave as they do to answer both questions.
“We like to think our decision making is completely rational. However, once there's an element of uncertainty, conscious assessments are only part of the story. Two other inputs, both subconscious and driven by our innate need to survive, have a big impact.
One, automatic reactions driven by cognitive biases, gets plenty of airtime.
The other input, our raw visceral emotions might be scary to talk about and less understood - but that’s not a reason to pretend they don’t exist!”
This interactive workshop will draw on material from Carole’s book, Neuroscience for Project Success: why people behave as they do, published by APM in 2022.
You’ll come away with:
a clear understanding of how the human brain works.
a framework that:
explains ‘why people behave as they do’.
makes it easier to talk about feelings in a matter-of-fact way (so that they become part of your conscious data set)
new insights into yourself and your projects in a world that’s often characterised by stress and disorder.
Act on these insights and you’ll see the impact - on your teams and stakeholders, your decisions about how to use data and AI, and ultimately your project outcomes.

Disruptive technology and accelerating change is the now the norm within business. Advancements that feel relatively recent are already becoming embedded into business-as-usual activity. AI is one such advancement; it is already being used and having real-world impacts across the project profession.
To help P3M professionals understand the implications of this change, APM invited representatives from organisations that have introduced or are preparing to introduce AI into their project workstreams, to explain their approach and share their insight with fellow professionals.
This webinar on explored how AI is currently being used in project and programme management, and how organisations are gearing up for its adoption.

Kai-Fu Lee predicted that AI would change the world more than anything in the history of humanity – even electricity. It would disrupt how we live and work, how we operate our businesses, the core products and services on offer and the way in which we build technology.
However, in 2024 the impact of AI can no longer be discussed in future tense. With Microsoft copilot now publicly available, the change is already upon us. There is no consultation period or ‘unsubscribe’ button.
Project management professionals are likely to be asked to manage AI projects - and we are expected to skilfully use AI in our daily work lives. While overwhelming, this is not the first time we’ve had to adapt.
Sarah helps her audience sharpen their cutting-edge skills by answering:
What do I need to know about AI right now?
If I’m asked to work on an AI project, what techniques do I need to be successful?
Where do I start my own learning journey to upskill and prepare?
Sarah’s expertise in advanced agile and experience in highly regulated Finance environments give her a unique perspective into balancing governance with technical innovation. She uses her own experience building an AI solution in 2023 to share practical, widely applicable concepts in an “AI for project managers” 101 style session.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

2. INTRODUCTION
Agile is gaining in popularity because:
Business operational drivers mean projects must adapt as often changes can’t
wait until the end of the project, and there is a need to avoid rework and wasted
effort
An Agile approach of frequent small deliveries coupled with a more continuous
conversation with the customer allows much greater flexibility and delivers
results, and therefore benefits, much more quickly.
The whole point of Agile is that customers can decide what they want to have
delivered
Teams achieve by ‘learning by doing,’ allowing teams to reflect on their
experiences as they go along and adapt accordingly.
3. PRESTO MANIFESTO
PUBLISHED BY DON MCGREAL ON JUNE 25TH, 2009
Timing: 30 mins
Aim:
Take it back to basics - show how thinking agile can help crate successful
projects
Activity:
Define what success on a project means, e.g. is it only about being on time and
on budget? What about customer satisfaction?
4. THE AGILE MANIFESTO
Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software.
Welcome changing requirements, even late in development. Agile processes harness change for the
customer’s competitive advantage.
Deliver working software frequently, from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, with a preference to the
shorter timescale.
Business people and developers must work together daily throughout the project.
Build projects around motivated individuals. Give them the environment and support they need, and trust
them to get the job done.
The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-
face conversation.
Working software is the primary measure of progress.
Agile processes promote sustainable development. The sponsors, developers, and users should be able to
maintain a constant pace indefinitely.
Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design enhances agility.
Simplicity — the art of maximizing the amount of work not done — is essential.
The best architectures, requirements, and designs emerge from self-organizing teams.
At regular intervals, the team reflects on how to become more effective, then tunes and adjusts its behavior
accordingly.
5. ACTIVITY:
HOW COULD YOU MAKE YOUR PROJECT MORE
AGILE?
Consider the following as a starter:
Environment
Team
Ceremonies
Tools
Techniques
6. SOME PROJECT MANAGEMENT CONSIDERATIONS
Culture
– Customer need to really understand their requirements
– JFDI, finish what you start
– Personal not e-mail
– Knowledge not position
Clear Vision
– Focus on the why, not the how
Getting better at estimating is vital
– Constant feedback
– Real, not over, commitments : keep promises
Go iterative for everyone, not just the delivery team
Get a great Key user Sell outcomes, not outputs
PM is a rolling process, in short bursts
Think about who is in the team and who supports outside it
Full time team is best!

7. SUMMARY
I hope we have understood alignment to the agile manifesto and explored
some elements for project success:
Self-Organizing Teams
By moving away from silo working, team members are encouraged to use their overlapping skills
and work together, which in turn gives them much greater empowerment and satisfaction.
This is much more motivational than the classic 'command and control' approaches
Time-Boxing and Requirements Management
Emphasis is on fixing the time and cost but also allowing the plan to evolve
Requirements can be prioritized, with frequent input from a customer representative
Scope creep is controlled easier as the product owner defines the deliverables in a sprint
Estimating gets better…
People Engagement
All the different stakeholders within a team work closer together and are empowered to have
more say in both what they do and the order of the work..
Have fun!
8. AND FINALLY……..
Don’t assume that Agile is only relevant to software development, hopefully
we have shown that it’s a way of thinking that can be used on any
project
There is no one right way of organizing and managing an Agile project –
take the concept and do what works for your circumstances
Just give it a try!
