Prospective customers often ask how they can assure a successful software implementation. There are many contributing factors, but to put simply, the answer for a successful implementation: You must have a product that fits your needs, leadership to sponsor your implementation, and a business process defined that blend with the software you’ve selected. Learn more!
Angela Carrato, Director of Client Services at PeopleMatter, and Jeanne Graves, VP of Human Resources for Del Taco, share how Del Taco's rollout strategy of PeopleMatter garnered all-in support among their team members, managers and executive team.
Does the thought of implementing a software new software solution in your enterprise make you shudder? Even though you know that such an implementation will provide significant benefits to the organization, the process of initiating change can overshadow the rewards those benefits bring. Implementation does not have to be a feared word! Let Essential Software be your guide to a successful project launch.
These 10 steps are the minimum required steps for an enterprise software implementation. For a smaller scoped effort less steps may be necessary. Either way, these steps will help bring you to a smoother, more efficient software implementation event.
We could possibly all think about projects which have “failed” – probably process got worse instead of better, perhaps they were terminated due to cost overruns, or maybe techniques were released with essential mistakes.
Identifying and addressing common project challengesPaul Welty
Over the years, I have formulated a theory of projects. The goal of telling you about this is to try to help you improve the success of your projects. By understanding projects and their components (strategy, tactics, and measurement), and by applying the framework I will share, you can better identify and address these project challenges.

UCISA Major Project Governance Assessment ToolkitMark Ritchie
Universities and colleges are constantly undertaking significant change activities. These activities will typically be managed using existing institutional project and change management processes. Often, however, there is a lack of consistency and rigour in the governance approach. This can lead to significant cost overruns and project failure when confronted with the challenges of a major change project. Major projects require a more rigorous approach to governance and project management to deliver success.
The UCISA Major Project Governance Assessment Toolkit has been developed to assist staff who are managing or participating in major change projects.
The toolkit provides:
a) guidance on assessing which projects should be classed as Major
b) the key governance elements that must be managed for Major projects
c) an assessment tool for project governance to help ensure that the required governance actions are established and work effectively throughout the life of the project
d) a visualisation tool for project governance which gives a view of the project as it currently stands and the changes since the last review
e) case studies on the use of the toolkit at the University of Edinburgh
The toolkit has been designed to be complementary to existing project and change management processes. The toolkit fills an important gap by providing a repeatable assessment process that covers all aspects of governance for Major Projects. The toolkit can be used as a reference point and checklist for any project.
This presentation is from the UCISA15 conference in Ednburgh and may be useful for any organisation wishing to adopt the toolkit.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

SOCRadar Research Team: Latest Activities of IntelBrokerSOCRadar
The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) has suffered an alleged data breach after a notorious threat actor claimed to have exfiltrated data from its systems. Infamous data leaker IntelBroker posted on the even more infamous BreachForums hacking forum, saying that Europol suffered a data breach this month.
The alleged breach affected Europol agencies CCSE, EC3, Europol Platform for Experts, Law Enforcement Forum, and SIRIUS. Infiltration of these entities can disrupt ongoing investigations and compromise sensitive intelligence shared among international law enforcement agencies.
However, this is neither the first nor the last activity of IntekBroker. We have compiled for you what happened in the last few days. To track such hacker activities on dark web sources like hacker forums, private Telegram channels, and other hidden platforms where cyber threats often originate, you can check SOCRadar’s Dark Web News.

Developing Distributed High-performance Computing Capabilities of an Open Sci...Globus
COVID-19 had an unprecedented impact on scientific collaboration. The pandemic and its broad response from the scientific community has forged new relationships among public health practitioners, mathematical modelers, and scientific computing specialists, while revealing critical gaps in exploiting advanced computing systems to support urgent decision making. Informed by our team’s work in applying high-performance computing in support of public health decision makers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we present how Globus technologies are enabling the development of an open science platform for robust epidemic analysis, with the goal of collaborative, secure, distributed, on-demand, and fast time-to-solution analyses to support public health.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
5 Pitfalls of Project Management Software Implementation
1. 5 Pitfalls of Project Management
Software Implementation
2. Why Project Teams Are Adopting PPM Tools
The struggle - Single desktop tools:
MS Project
Excel
Word
Cocktail Napkins? Yes.
Approximately 90% of our prospective customers do not use an enterprise project and
portfolio management solution.
3. The Benefits of Adopting PPM Tool
Centralizes all projects in one place
Provides visibility and transparency into all
projects and their status
Allows management to understand resource
workloads’ for betting forecasting
Provides project managers with standardized
processes
Give executive management real-time reports
and information for better decision making
4.
5. Lack of Leadership or Sponsorship
Even when the leaders themselves see
the value of a tool, make sizeable
investments in the solution, when the
rubber meets the road, they leave the
project to chance. They lack leadership
and sponsorship.
6. No Communication Plan or Weak Communication Plan
Plan for REGULAR meetings
Remind your team why this is important
Set the example – Everyone from the top-down needs to utilize the software
Communication is Key
7. No Incentives to Change
Figure out if your organization
is a ‘carrot’ organization or a
‘stick.’ That will help you
define how you will incentivize
people to make the change.
8. Trying to ‘Go it Alone'
Doing everything yourself or what we call the
cowboy approach is only good for small teams.
Ask for help
Get you team involved
Help others
Don’t be that guy
9. Implementing Software Without
Considering Your Business Process
PPM software is just a tool. You need to
consider weaving in the aspects of your
business process that work well and upgrade
the parts of your process that are not
working well, and then integrate that with
your new solution.
