Channel Islands National Park
The Channel Islands are located on the coast of Southern California in the Pacific Ocean between the
cities Los Angeles and Santa Maria. Channel Islands National Park are made up of a chain of eight
islands, Anacapa Island, San Miguel Island, Santa Cruz Island, Santa Rosa Island, San Clemente, San
Nicolas, Santa Barbara, and Santa Catalina Island. In total, the park covers 249,561 acres. The islands
are filled with a large variety of animals from land to aquatic. From the center of channel islands to the
coast of Santa Barbara, it is approximately thirty miles, But it takes around two and a half hours to

It is also the position of the discovery of the earliest evidence of humans in North America. The
Channel Islands are at the moment known to have been inhabited by marine Paleo Indian peoples
from at the minimum thirteen thousand years ago. The Chumash people were removed from the
islands in the 19th century and then later on transported to the Spanish missions. For a full century, the
Channel Islands were used for ranching and fishing and that affected the ecosystem. For example, they
were the main reason bald eagles and sea otters have been endangered in southern California because
both of those animals were used as a food source for the Native Americans for centuries. Most of the
Channel Islands is now newly owned by federal agencies to help fix the redevelopment of the island s
ecosystem. They have made a huge impact on the island s ecosystem. A few of the islands were
utilized by fishers and they wanted to specifically hunt for sperm whales in the 1930 s.The Channel
Islands aren t highly visited but they have had over 350,000 people visit the island since 2006 and
estimated around 70,000 visitors

Alabama Civil War
Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C.
THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during
and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war.
During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama,
by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and
in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to
use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in
1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as
well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied
their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the
confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863,
the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but
they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a
freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how

Research Paper On Groundhog
All Eyes on the Groundhog After a long hard winter most, people are looking forward to spring.
Spring brings about new life, budding trees and flowers, birds singing and butterflies flying.
Predicting the end of winter and the beginning of spring has been a long time favorite ritual for many
people. Groundhog Day has been around for centuries. The tradition stems from earlier traditions and
crosses many different cultures. Groundhog Day remains very popular today.
Initially, thousands of years ago people in Europe looked to the badger for the prediction of the arrival
of spring. They watched the badger to determine when to plant their crops. However, since badgers
were scarce in Pennsylvania, the groundhog took over this duty. Tradition holds that if the groundhog
sees his shadow on February 2nd it will be scared and return to its burrow, signaling that there will be
six more weeks of winter. If his shadow is not seen then spring is on its way (Groundhog). The famous
Punxsutawney Phil, gets his name from the Indian name for the location ponksad uteney which means
the town of sandflies (Groundhog 1017).
Prior to Groundhog Day German settlers, performed the tradition of Candlemas Day (Groundhog
2017). Candlemas Day involved clergy blessing candles and distributing them to everyone in the dark
cold days of winter, the people placed a lighted candle in each window of their home (Groundhog
2017). If on February 2nd the sun came out there would be six more Yohe 2

Catalysts for American Revolution
Nick Cuccaro U.S History 1 Liberty! The American Revolution Quiz October 9th, 2012 The American
Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, was a war that had raged on for eight years
stemming from major political differences of opinion. Though, the fighting and the discontent
between the two opposing forces, Americans and British, had been developing for years before the
first shots ever had gone off to start the revolution. The reasoning for the tension between the two is
traced back to one of the main catalysts being the Stamp Act that was imposed on New England
colonies, then to one of the last being The Boston Tea Party that ended with British war ships being
sent to Boston with attempts to keep in under control. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, Parliament began issuing several Acts upon the American Colonies of which they
could do next to nothing about due to Britain simply stating it was for the good of the Empire. Acts
that they had issues were ones such as the Quartering Act of 1766, which required the colonists to
house British soldiers at their own expense. They also put forth the Townshend Acts that would tax all
imports into the colonies. After the Stamp Act, and then Declaratory Act, which had been a scary thing
to them colonists as it had also been used in Ireland, the colonists started to rebel against the British.
They felt that they could be a worthy rival to Great Britain, as Great Britain had been exporting only
finished goods while the colonies were exporting the raw materials needed to produce many of these
goods. Since a huge majority of the goods were imported from Britain, many felt that they should
boycott all of British made items. George Washington agreed on this and stated that he believes and
hoped that the boycott will work, but for it to work all of the people in the colonies must mobilize and
participate in the boycott. There was also the situation of Thomas Hutchinson, who was for more or
less, an English spy, as he resided within the colonies and followed and trusted in English law. He had

Cloning Ethical And Moral Dilemma
Cloning an Ethical and Moral Dilemma

1 December 2014
Cloning an Ethical and Moral Dilemma Science has been plagued with the limits of ethics and morals
of the people that fail to see the bigger picture that research can help to bring great things to the world.
Cloning is one of the major fields that are affected by closed minded beliefs and laws that prohibit
research. Should the search for finding medicine that could save lives and the chance for people to
have healthy offspring be denied because of the misconceptions of different generations? Cloning
should be allowed because of the medical benefits that it provides, the only way that it can become
more ethical is with research to find the best techniques, and yet none of this is possible because of the
laws that restrict the research. Cloning is an ethical and moral dilemma as it pertains to how we view
not only the lives of people but in fact what we can and cannot do with our own bodies. Many see
cloning as people trying to play god with others lives. This comes from the creation of life and then
the use of the life that was created. Similar to abortion we have to define the meaning of what it means
to be a person and whether or not they should be considered equal. Some may say yes declaring that a
person is equal to another because we are both human. This has not been the case though for a great
deal of people. Examples of this are wide and varied from

The Laramie Project is a production that was created to addressed the cruel murder of 21 year old
Matthew Shepard who lived in a small town of Laramie, Wyoming. Due to this critical situation that
occurred, the state of Wyoming suffered from major judgements from other states in the U.S and
countries around the world. Laramie, had demonstrated stereotypical actions and discrimination

Jane Eyre Influence
During the Victorian era, many literary pieces of work were based around the topics of struggle and
societal problems. These topics are introduced in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte as well as many other
literary pieces during the time. In Jane Eyre, the main character is Jane Eyre, a girl who struggles with
family and her social status. She was raised by Mrs. Reed, whom she eventually left, and encountered
many paternal figures in her life. The way she consistently encounters different paternal figures
influences her own views on affection. Jane s consistent finding of a paternal figure, shows how
consciously or subconsciously she is finding someone to fill the void of not having that higher figure
in her life. As a child, Jane is subconsciously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The motif of her constantly finding a parental figure to give her affection and for her to give affection

and evolved every time she had met someone, and used the knowledge of the past paternal figure to
fully develop into the Jane readers know nearing the end of the story. Therefore, the motif of Jane
consistently finding that paternal figure is one of the most important, as it not only affects her in the
present (Jane talks in the past as it s a reflection), but it also affects her future on how Jane chooses to

Tipping Point Chapter Summary
Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell follows trends from their beginning to their end and he
tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell gives the three rules for the
tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and
transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell uses the
syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease, to illustrate his three rules. He
restates the three rules more simply as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of context.
Gladwell begins by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool Hush Puppies
shoes amongst a few of hipsters in Manhattan s cutting edge regions in the 1990s, a development
which soon extended across the United States and lead to exponential increases in the company s
sales. Using this sensation as an introduction to the book s methodical theme, the author states that he
will recognize, dissect and give details on the mechanisms by which certain trends occur, while others
fail. Chapter 1: The Three Rules of Epidemics Gladwell declares that most trends, styles, and
occurrences are natural and spread according to paths of transmission and carriage that are patently
similar. In most of these consequences, whether the event in question is the spread of syphilis in
Baltimore s unpleasant streets or the unexpected spike in the acceptance of Hush Puppies sales,

districts face serious educational shortcomings due to little investment in the beggared communities
surrounding the school. It is more accurate to say that America has two systems of public education.
The first system, based principally, but not entirely in the suburbs of America and in wealthier urban
districts, is in many respects mediocre, specifically in comparison to international peers in advanced
industrial nations. However, the second system, based principally in poorer urban and rural areas, is an
absolute failure; in which an exceeding number of students dropout well before high school

academic confidence in basic subjects. An outstanding number of students are unprepared for the

of higher education or advanced training.
These systemic obstacles that create circumstances that hinder the education attainment of the poor

Fall 2014
Beethoven s Waldstein Sonata First Movement
Piano Sonata No. 21 in C major, Opus 53 is one of the most technically challenging and
compositionally ambitious piano sonatas by Beethoven. The name of the sonata, Waldstein , is derived
from Beethoven s dedication, Count Ferdinand Ernst Gabriel von Waldstein of Vienna, a long time
close friend and patron of the composer. Composed from 1803 to 1804, it is one of the most important
pieces of Beethoven s middle period and surpasses all the earlier sonatas in scope, power, and energy.
Like many other major pieces around the time the piece was composed, Beethoven was constantly
augmenting the sonata form, giving significantly more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key characteristic of this five note cell is that it is entirely composed of step wise motion. This
feature would affect the melodic and harmonic choices of the movement s composition, as the
movement is almost entirely built on step wise motion. Because of the step wise quality of the
movement, the primary harmonic motion is an oscillation between tonic and dominant chords.
The movement begins quite solidly in C major as the first component of the theme (figure 2), which
we will call component A, is a repeating eight note C major chord which hammers the tonic tonality
into the listeners minds. This component ends with an ascending three note step wise motion in the
right hand into the dominant of the key, with the second note being a sharpened F, temporarily
tonalicizing the dominant, suggesting the idea to the listeners that the beginning C major chords may
instead be serving a subdominant function to G. In measure 3 and 4, the left descends into B, serving
as a bridge to the upcoming flat VII to smooth out the jarring key shift. We will call the right hand
motif in measure 3 as component B and the one in measure 4 as component C. All three motifs would
come back later as important building blocks of the movement. Beethoven confuses the listeners
further as we progress into measure 5. The first four measures are repeated, but the music

The Mexican American War And Foreign Soil
Today, we are going to talk about the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil; The
Mexican American War (1846 1848). Motivated by the U.S. President James K. Polk, who believed
the United States had a manifest destiny to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, he pitted a
politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico. A border skirmish along the Rio Grande started
off the fighting and was followed by a series of U.S. victories. At the end of the war, Mexico had lost
about one third of its territory.
Let s go back to those events in details. First of all: What caused the Mexican American War to begin?
The Mexican American War was mainly driven by the idea of Manifest Destiny ; the belief that the
U.S had a God given right to occupy and civilize the whole continent. As increasingly large number of
Americans migrated towards the west in search of land, the fact that most of those areas already had
people living in them was ignored. Instead, an attitude and belief that democratic English speaking
America would do a better job of running the lands than the Native Americans or Spanish speaking
Catholic Mexicans prevailed. President Polk shared and led the vision of Manifest Destiny, and did
offer to buy much of the southwest land from Mexico. However the Mexican government refused the
offer, and an unyeilding desire to populate those southwestern lands caused tensions to continue to
rise.
The second major cause of the Mexican American War

The Importance Of Teamwork And Its Advantages Essay
SECTION 1
Definition of teamwork and its advantages and disadvantages
Teamwork consists of a group of people coming together to form a team, to work together to achieve
the goals that have been set out. In order for a team to reach their objectives and be successful as a
team they must find out what each team members role is in the team. They must set up team rules on
how they will work together, how they will distribute information and how they will resolve any team
conflict if any arises. Team members should not discuss personal interests as it is irrelevant to the
contributions of team goals. Each member should respect each other.
Advantages;
Each member of the team can learn something from each other.
The sharing of information and the communication in the team can improve
Team members who are willing to share their ideas make it a better experience for the team and it also
makes it a lot easier for the shyer ones in the group to contribute
The team environment can turn into a supportive one
Every team member has a different style and this can lead to finding new approaches to tasks
Disadvantages;
Some team members may have no experience of working in a team
If disagreements develop conflict may arise
Team members may take up to much time because of the need for coordination and agreement.
A team member may have a better understanding of a certain situation but may choose to abandon his
better judgment and follow the decision of the rest of the

the circulation slowdown is thought to be a result of human activity from heating and freshening the

are clarity, movement, alignment, and focus. These subtopics in the sections blend together to develop

Serving is not inherently bad, but it did pull Martha of the course that was obviously more beneficial
for her life. This story transitions into chapter four, the focus portion of the section. This is where we
need to remove some good things to have more time to live a simple life. The book mentions about a
man who was working at a church, but consuming all his time and ironically, he stopped attending
church. He decided to stop working at the church, so he could clear up his schedule. Working in a
church isn t a bad thing, but it took all his time and focus.
The next main section of the book uses the four stages pinpointing towards relationships. Chapter five
is the clarity stage, the chapter talks about how most of the people in the survey all wish they had a
better relationship. The chapter reveals that realizing there is a problem is the first step to correcting
the issue. Chapter six is the movement stage, the title is called moving to healthier relationships. To
have a healthy relationship, a person must be caring and unselfishly love others. In the alignment
stage, the authors enlighten the reader to five hindrances to a healthy relationship. The first
hinderance, is that men and women are from different planets. This is saying that men and women
often think and function differently and most of the time they don t realize it. The second hindrance is
faith misalignment. Some

Defense Mechanisms And The First Defense Mechanism
Defense Mechanisms Defense mechanisms are known as ways we protect ourselves from the feelings
or things that we do not want to deal with. Defense mechanisms tend to be a way to cope with
situations, from which an individual feels anxiety or stressed. Everyone uses defenses mechanisms to
help them get through frustrating experiences. There are several types of defense mechanisms; the
main ones that I can remember using are regression, denial, projection, repression, rationalization, and
displacement. The first defense mechanism I like to uses is regression. Regression is defined as
leading to the temporary or long term reversion of the ego to an earlier stage of development rather
than handling unacceptable impulses in a more adult way. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Regression helps people by, when someone confronted by stressful events, they sometimes abandon
coping strategies and revert to patterns of behavior used earlier in development. The second defense
mechanism, I ve used is denial. Denial is simply refusing to acknowledge that an event has occurred, a
person acts as if nothing has happened, behaving in ways those others may see as bizarre. In my life, I
have only known one person that has past that I have cared about. When she past a couple years ago, I
just did not want to believe it. I stayed up almost every night that week, trying to think that it was not
real and it was only a dream. Still to this day, I try to tell myself it is not real, but reality hits me and
she will always be gone. Personally I can only remember using denial as a defense mechanism once in
my life, but I also had a neighbor his name was Cody he was 17 years old and he started using drugs,
the changes in his behavior made it pretty obvious to anyone who know him, but Cody s parents just
didn t believe. I believe that Cody s parents where in denial; because that was there baby, and they just
did not want to believe that there kid would get into that kind of stuff. The third defense mechanism I
have used is projection. Projection is where a person defends themselves against unpleasant impulses
by denying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others. I have been known of doing

Soccer Vs Football Compare And Contrast
Soccer vs. Football
Soccer and Football have long been high class sports with ample amount of respect and dignity,
groomed through history. Regulations and guidelines have been set in stone and shifted throughout the
course of competition. Safety is key in both recreational sports and has become essential for the
protection of the people that participate. Stylistically the two sports contain a different overall goal,
however the techniques vary. From a beginners point of view the sports seem derived from a primary
source, however in the overall scheme they differentiate through many different loop holes. These
differences will be depicted throughout the essay, allowing the reader to grasp a better understanding
of the sports as a whole. In reality soccer and football are extremely similar, yet diverse in many ways.
Historically speaking these sports derived from one another, if soccer was none existent there would
be no American football in today s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The official rules of soccer were founded in England ( A Brief History of Soccer ). Although we are
not sure when or how it originated, evidence dating back nearly three thousand years ago in China
shows that a small fur stuffed leather ball was used as the official game piece of a purely foot based
activity with the overall objective being to score into opposite teams net likely known as Tsu Chu. The
brutality of the sport grew over time as the games overall principles were toyed with, causing more
injuries and controversy with higher powers in England, during the ruling of King Edward, resulting
in expulsion and arrest if caught participating in the sport ( A Brief History of Soccer ). Hundreds of
years later the popularity in the sport had grown tremendously in England, allowing teams to be
formed in schools. Soon after, the Americans started to

Suspense In The Others Essay
Populating the world of popular literature in today s society, a plethora of ghost stories of haunted
houses exist. Though what truly captures the mind of the human population about haunted houses
cannot be explained or identified, the occurrence is definitely a popular subject. Demonstrating this,
statistics suggest that 1,200 haunted houses currently exist in the United States to entertain the
population. Whether it be storytelling, movies, or parties, the idea of spirits haunting people proves to
be one of the most successful forms of entertainment. However, few of those aforementioned stories
explore the realm of the perspective of the dead in occurrences of haunting. Directed by Alejandro
Amenábar, The Others recounts the tale of a mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason why the plot is able to effectively create suspense is through utilizing foreshadowing. For
example, the film opens with Grace, the mother, screaming as Grace wakes up, foreshadowing fear in
the movie. In addition, the dialogue plays a role in foreshadowing as well, such the repeated allusions
to the day [Grace] went mad . As Grace slowly uncovers clues as to what is going on in the house, the
repeated sightings of doors being unlocked and sounds being made keep the audience on the edge of
their seats. Specifically, the incident when Grace hears piano music being played in the middle of the
night fully cements in the audience s mind that there are ghosts without revealing the true identity or
purpose of the ghosts, adding suspense rather than answering questions. However, when it is revealed
that Grace, Anne, and Nicholas are, in fact, ghosts and the other family is alive provides a tie in to all
of the suspense. Suddenly, even the smallest detail, such as descriptions of the old lady who can
connect with spirits, comes to the audience s mind to add validity to the twist. All in all, the strange
occurrences in the house that take place in the plot continually generate suspense throughout the

The Electronic Health Record ( Ehr ) System
The electronic health record (EHR) System is a database that contains all the details of patient s
medical status and has been designed to facilitate rapid access to such information when necessary
(Hayrian, Sarnto Nykanen, 2008). This database is advantageous for both medical practitioners and
patients as it facilitates an improvement in the level of care provided by health workers across all
departments, and has become a fundamental resource for the healthcare sector (Scott,2007). Based on
the definition declared by the health information management systems society (HIMSS), an EHR is a
detailed digital record of the medical statuses of patients based on at least one healthcare visit or
treatment program. These records provide vital information on each patient s personal details, health
concerns, progress reports, medicine administrated and prescribed, vital signs, previous medical
histories, immunization statuses, lab test reports and radiology results. The database also assist in
scheduling in the work of clinical practitioners as the EHR is capable of presenting a comprehensive
record of all treatment received by a patient across a diverse range of medical fields and supports the
use of evidence based decision making methods, quality management and the effective evaluation of
the patient outcome. In a clinical setting, the application of an EHR system will depend on a number
of technical, behavioral and management based factors. It is important to a health

managerial changes have occurred, having being infrequent (meanings, rare, as uncommon, not

Why did managerial have any succession or failure(s) have little impact? It seems to me; little

Strategic Strategy And Risk Assessment
The business dictionary has defined success as the achievement of an objective or pre determined
goal. For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those objectives
that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance success requires
cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance success depends on
several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being trustworthy; to create value
combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among the partners for cooperation and
coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. Thomas (2014) outlined some key success
factors for strategic alliances and are : (1) Strategic Rationale Derive cooperation areas systematically
from business strategy including business case evaluation and risk assessment Engage in partnership
only in case benefit generated and risks involved justify additional complexity compared to alternative
solutions (2) Select partner High strategic and cultural fit between the partners Complementary
capabilities, resources and/or reground footprint Matching product portfolios (3) Negotiate and

Pacemaker Impact On Society
Some 400,000 Americans die annually from abnormally fast or irregular heart rhythm, FDA said in
announcing approval of the pacemaker device in February 1993. Since this approval, thousands of
Americans suffering from irregular heart rhythm are able to live a healthy and happy life thanks to this
invention. Because of this small device, symptoms are relieved, lives are longer, and people are able to
live life to the fullest. It s a big breakthrough, said David B. Delurgio, an Emory University
cardiologist. It s not for every heart failure patient, but a proportion could definitely benefit
(Neergaard). Pacemakers have impacted many important aspects of society including the ability to
contribute in the workplace, benefits in the economy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I ve mentioned earlier, symptoms of individuals before pacemaker implantation can be completely
debilitating. Getting a pacemaker can be life changing for people who were never able to experience
life to the fullest beforehand. Statistics show that 68 percent of pacemaker patients reported improved
quality of life, and in this study 579 patients using the pacemaker experienced significant
improvement. One standard heart failure test measures how far patients can walk in six minutes.
Those whose pacemakers were turned on could walk, on average, 58 more yards than patients in a
comparison group whose pacemakers were turned off (Neergaard). With a pacemaker, people who
were never able to travel are now able to. Patients can even have their pacemaker evaluated in almost
any part of the world, and it is safe to pass through airport security checks in the normal fashion
(Wood). They can also help people who have abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active lifestyle,
and participate in sports, etc (medicinenet). Pacemakers are rate responsive, which means it contains a
sensor to detect need for increased rate. Some gauge responses by body movement, a person s
breathing, or even changes in blood temperature. Thus, if a person starts to walk or run, the device
senses the activity and increases the heart rate. Many pacemakers even automatically

Most people who talk about healthcare, really do not know what health care is to its full extent. Let
alone understand how a nation health care system operates or how each political party wants the
nation healthcare to be ran. Healthcare is the maintenance and improvement of the of a individual
through medical provisions. But defining a operations of a healthcare within a nation can differ.
Ideally the operations involve citizens paying taxes for government health care with the alternative of
paying for private health care services, such as the individual employer. With regards to the past the
USA have not been regarded in the highest praises, Dr. Martin Luther King JR , once stated . Of all the
forms of inequality, injustice in health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lead provider of healthcare in the USA, is private ownership. Which can lead to mistreatment and
corruption. Roughly 61% of health insurance coverage is related to the employment of that individual
that is employed. When the unemployment rate was near a all time high not too long ago. There was
more than enough citizens not receiving healthcare. The access to health care for citizens in the USA
is very out of sync. The USA have by far the most expensive health care in the world. One of the
reasons for this is the majority of health care is provided by private owners, which are for profit and
are able to raise the price of treatment. Due to the rising cost of medical insurance providers, business
are often forced to drop their benefits for employers. Which are increasing the problem of health
insurance. To describe a system of health in the USA as of today with Obamacare passed. Customers
who are without insurance search for insurance on the marketplace, and choose the plan they wants
with a private sector or if qualified with basic coverage with government supplemental plans for the
struggling income household. The ones who benefit the most of this system are stock holders and
health providers, with the ability to control the price of medical treatment and care. The losers in the
America regarding health care are the low income household and the unemployed who are unable to
afford healthcare. It will be fair to say the USA, health system is Capitalistic based.

Racial Disparities In Health Care Essay
There are vulnerable groups that have significant problems in the health care system, due to this
population being made vulnerable because of their financial circumstances or place of residence,
health, age, race, mental or physical state. Access to health care across different populations are the
main reason for current disparities in the United States health care system. Moreover, with a large
amount attention being given to racial disparities in health, the meaning of race has come under
increased scientific examination. (Sondik, 1997) Consequently, race remains to be one of the most
politically charged topics in American life, because it s linked to sociocultural element often has led to
classifications that have been ambiguous and improperly

Teenage Rebellion Research Paper
The Similarities and Differences of the Causes of the
Rebellion in Upper and Lower Canada
The causes of the Rebellions of 1837 in Upper and Lower Canada have similarities and differences.
For example, both Upper and Lower Canada had problems with their government, not having a
representative or responsible one. They also both had a group, the Family Compact in Upper Canada
and the Chateau Clique in Lower Canada, that had a lot of money and power. Another similarity is that
they both had a document trying for change that got shut down by the government, Gourlay s petition
in Upper Canada, and the 92 Resolutions in Lower Canada. The proposed union of 1822 also
contributed to the Rebellions of 1837 in both Upper and Lower Canada, as both they disapproved of
union of the two colonies. The proposed union of 1822 could also be considered a difference in the
causes of the rebellions, since the union would make the French in Lower Canada, a ... Show more

Firstly, the government in both Upper and Lower Canada both were neither representative nor
responsible, it was an oligarchy. Even though anyone (landowning men) could have been elected as
part of the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Assembly only could suggested ideas. Any
suggestions could be vetoed by the councils or the governor, who were all appointed by Britain,
making the assembly ultimately have no power in the government. This was a huge issue because the
councils were mostly made up of the Family Compact (in Upper Canada) and the Chateau Clique (in
Lower Canada). Which leads to the second similarity of the causes, the power structures, the Family
Compact and the Chateau Clique. Both of these upper class groups wanted different things than the
lower classes. An example is that the Family Compact wanted to build canals instead of roads and the
Chateau Clique wanted the

Essay On College Tuition Cost
In today s society, the rising college tuition costs is becoming a problem because people can t keep up
with the funding of the college costs and kids are not getting the right education they deserve and need
in life.
Since the 1987 1988 school year students at public four year institutions paid an average $3,190 in
tuition, with prices adjusted to reflect 2017 dollars. Thirty years later, that average has risen to $9,970
for the 2017 2018 school year(Martin). Parents all over the world will make their kid s focus on a
sport in hopes that they will get a scholarship and not have to pay the high fees for college. They don t
get to have the freedom to do the things that wealthy children can, for example wealthy kids have no
financial problems going in to college while poor kids will struggle and have to get students loans. As
a parent, you just hope that your kid will be good enough to get a scholarship so that you won t have
to pay for the college tuition. Martin also states, More likely, the hypothetical child would pay the
tuition bill themselves, as the rising cost of higher education has led Americans to struggle with a
collective $1.4 trillion in student loan debt(MAKE IT). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

challenging to repay. In 2012, 71 percent of graduates from four year colleges carried debt, with

owing $32,300(Martin). That means that debt is becoming an overwhelming problem for college
students. College students don t know how to handle this

  • 3. Alabama Civil War Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C. THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war. During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama, by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in 1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863, the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how devoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Research Paper On Groundhog All Eyes on the Groundhog After a long hard winter most, people are looking forward to spring. Spring brings about new life, budding trees and flowers, birds singing and butterflies flying. Predicting the end of winter and the beginning of spring has been a long time favorite ritual for many people. Groundhog Day has been around for centuries. The tradition stems from earlier traditions and crosses many different cultures. Groundhog Day remains very popular today. Initially, thousands of years ago people in Europe looked to the badger for the prediction of the arrival of spring. They watched the badger to determine when to plant their crops. However, since badgers were scarce in Pennsylvania, the groundhog took over this duty. Tradition holds that if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd it will be scared and return to its burrow, signaling that there will be six more weeks of winter. If his shadow is not seen then spring is on its way (Groundhog). The famous Punxsutawney Phil, gets his name from the Indian name for the location ponksad uteney which means the town of sandflies (Groundhog 1017). Prior to Groundhog Day German settlers, performed the tradition of Candlemas Day (Groundhog 2017). Candlemas Day involved clergy blessing candles and distributing them to everyone in the dark cold days of winter, the people placed a lighted candle in each window of their home (Groundhog 2017). The American Revolution Quiz October 9th, 2012 The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War, was a war that had raged on for eight years stemming from major political differences of opinion. Though, the fighting and the discontent between the two opposing forces, Americans and British, had been developing for years before the first shots ever had gone off to start the revolution. The reasoning for the tension between the two is traced back to one of the main catalysts being the Stamp Act that was imposed on New England colonies, then to one of the last being The Boston Tea Party that ended with British war ships being sent to Boston with attempts to keep in under control. As a result of this, Parliament began issuing several Acts upon the American Colonies of which they could do next to nothing about due to Britain simply stating it was for the good of the Empire. Acts that they had issues were ones such as the Quartering Act of 1766, which required the colonists to house British soldiers at their own expense. They also put forth the Townshend Acts that would tax all imports into the colonies. After the Stamp Act, and then Declaratory Act, which had been a scary thing to them colonists as it had also been used in Ireland, the colonists started to rebel against the British. They felt that they could be a worthy rival to Great Britain, as Great Britain had been exporting only finished goods while the colonies were exporting the raw materials needed to produce many of these goods. Since a huge majority of the goods were imported from Britain, many felt that they should boycott all of British made items. George Washington agreed on this and stated that he believes and hoped that the boycott will work, but for it to work all of the people in the colonies must mobilize and participate in the boycott. There was also the situation of Thomas Hutchinson, who was for more or less, an English spy, as he resided within the colonies and followed and trusted in English law. He had written several ... Cloning Ethical And Moral Dilemma Cloning an Ethical and Moral Dilemma Scott Blakley Jr. YC English 101, Period 3 Dr. Palm 1 December 2014 Cloning an Ethical and Moral Dilemma Science has been plagued with the limits of ethics and morals of the people that fail to see the bigger picture that research can help to bring great things to the world. Cloning is one of the major fields that are affected by closed minded beliefs and laws that prohibit research. Should the search for finding medicine that could save lives and the chance for people to have healthy offspring be denied because of the misconceptions of different generations? Cloning should be allowed because of the medical benefits that it provides, the only way that it can become more ethical is with research to find the best techniques, and yet none of this is possible because of the laws that restrict the research. Cloning is an ethical and moral dilemma as it pertains to how we view not only the lives of people but in fact what we can and cannot do with our own bodies. Many see cloning as people trying to play god with others lives. This comes from the creation of life and then the use of the life that was created. Similar to abortion we have to define the meaning of what it means to be a person and whether or not they should be considered equal. Some may say yes declaring that a person is equal to another because we are both human. This has not been the case though for a great deal of people. Examples of this are wide and varied from ... • 10. Tipping Point Chapter Summary Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell follows trends from their beginning to their end and he tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell gives the three rules for the tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell uses the syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease, to illustrate his three rules. He restates the three rules more simply as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of context. Gladwell begins by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool Hush Puppies shoes amongst a few of hipsters in Manhattan s cutting edge regions in the 1990s, a development which soon extended across the United States and lead to exponential increases in the company s sales. Using this sensation as an introduction to the book s methodical theme, the author states that he will recognize, dissect and give details on the mechanisms by which certain trends occur, while others fail. Chapter 1: The Three Rules of Epidemics Gladwell declares that most trends, styles, and occurrences are natural and spread according to paths of transmission and carriage that are patently similar. In most of these consequences, whether the event in question is the spread of syphilis in Baltimore s unpleasant streets or the unexpected spike in the acceptance of Hush Puppies sales, ... The name of the sonata, Waldstein , is derived from Beethoven s dedication, Count Ferdinand Ernst Gabriel von Waldstein of Vienna, a long time close friend and patron of the composer. Composed from 1803 to 1804, it is one of the most important pieces of Beethoven s middle period and surpasses all the earlier sonatas in scope, power, and energy. The key characteristic of this five note cell is that it is entirely composed of step wise motion. This feature would affect the melodic and harmonic choices of the movement s composition, as the movement is almost entirely built on step wise motion. Because of the step wise quality of the movement, the primary harmonic motion is an oscillation between tonic and dominant chords. The movement begins quite solidly in C major as the first component of the theme (figure 2), which we will call component A, is a repeating eight note C major chord which hammers the tonic tonality into the listeners minds. This component ends with an ascending three note step wise motion in the right hand into the dominant of the key, with the second note being a sharpened F, temporarily tonalicizing the dominant, suggesting the idea to the listeners that the beginning C major chords may instead be serving a subdominant function to G. In measure 3 and 4, the left descends into B, serving as a bridge to the upcoming flat VII to smooth out the jarring key shift. We will call the right hand motif in measure 3 as component B and the one in measure 4 as component C. All three motifs would come back later as important building blocks of the movement. Beethoven confuses the listeners further as we progress into measure 5. The first four measures are repeated, but the music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Mexican American War And Foreign Soil Today, we are going to talk about the first U.S. armed conflict chiefly fought on foreign soil; The Mexican American War (1846 1848). Motivated by the U.S. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had a manifest destiny to spread across the continent to the Pacific Ocean, he pitted a politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico. A border skirmish along the Rio Grande started off the fighting and was followed by a series of U.S. victories. At the end of the war, Mexico had lost about one third of its territory. Let s go back to those events in details. First of all: What caused the Mexican American War to begin? The Mexican American War was mainly driven by the idea of Manifest Destiny ; the belief that the U.S had a God given right to occupy and civilize the whole continent. As increasingly large number of Americans migrated towards the west in search of land, the fact that most of those areas already had people living in them was ignored. Instead, an attitude and belief that democratic English speaking America would do a better job of running the lands than the Native Americans or Spanish speaking Catholic Mexicans prevailed. President Polk shared and led the vision of Manifest Destiny, and did offer to buy much of the southwest land from Mexico. However the Mexican government refused the offer, and an unyeilding desire to populate those southwestern lands caused tensions to continue to rise. The first defense mechanism I like to uses is regression. Regression is defined as leading to the temporary or long term reversion of the ego to an earlier stage of development rather than handling unacceptable impulses in a more adult way. I ... Regression helps people by, when someone confronted by stressful events, they sometimes abandon coping strategies and revert to patterns of behavior used earlier in development. The second defense mechanism, I ve used is denial. Denial is simply refusing to acknowledge that an event has occurred, a person acts as if nothing has happened, behaving in ways those others may see as bizarre. In my life, I have only known one person that has past that I have cared about. When she past a couple years ago, I just did not want to believe it. I stayed up almost every night that week, trying to think that it was not real and it was only a dream. Still to this day, I try to tell myself it is not real, but reality hits me and she will always be gone. Personally I can only remember using denial as a defense mechanism once in my life, but I also had a neighbor his name was Cody he was 17 years old and he started using drugs, the changes in his behavior made it pretty obvious to anyone who know him, but Cody s parents just didn t believe. I believe that Cody s parents where in denial; because that was there baby, and they just did not want to believe that there kid would get into that kind of stuff. The third defense mechanism I have used is projection. Projection is where a person defends themselves against unpleasant impulses by denying their existence in themselves, while attributing them to others. I have been known of doing ... Getting a pacemaker can be life changing for people who were never able to experience life to the fullest beforehand. Statistics show that 68 percent of pacemaker patients reported improved quality of life, and in this study 579 patients using the pacemaker experienced significant improvement. One standard heart failure test measures how far patients can walk in six minutes. Those whose pacemakers were turned on could walk, on average, 58 more yards than patients in a comparison group whose pacemakers were turned off (Neergaard). With a pacemaker, people who were never able to travel are now able to. Patients can even have their pacemaker evaluated in almost any part of the world, and it is safe to pass through airport security checks in the normal fashion (Wood). They can also help people who have abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active lifestyle, and participate in sports, etc (medicinenet). Thus, if a person starts to walk or run, the device senses the activity and increases the heart rate. Many pacemakers even automatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
