In this research we want to look through the general elements of ESP courses. Also our aim is to highlight the main differences between ESP courses for scientists, businessmen, and teachers. It is also important to mention the theories of ESP teaching methodology of American and British ESP researchers. In this article you also can find practical advices how to be successful at the presentation of your product on English language.
This presentation draws on a course in English for Science at a university in Hong Kong, and describes the process of curriculum and syllabus design for that course, including a needs analysis and action research into new literacies and English for Specific Purposes.
Pecha Kucha presentations burst onto the scene in 2003 and have since been adopted and adapted by a wide audience, from the creative industries to the business world and of course, education. Having observed the use of Pecha Kucha in a number of different educational contexts, this practical session examines why the format continues to have relevance for us, and what role it can play in different learning and teaching environments.
This presentation shares a basic Pecha Kucha 'toolkit', structures to explore with your students and teachers, and some ideas you can try tomorrow in your class spaces and staff development.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
