Seville. He didn’t attend high school. He left school early and he began
to work in the farms near the city. He moved from farm to farm in search
of work. In one town, he met a young woman and fell in love
immediately. My grandmother began to work for the family who bought
the farm and my grandparents got engaged two months after meeting
each other.
The family gave my grandparents a little money so they decided to get
married. They chose a date and invited all their relatives; their cousins,
their aunts and uncles and their nieces and nephews to the wedding.
They gave one of the nicest weddings of the town.
They went to Madrid on their honeymoon and they visited the Prado.
My grandfather rented a flat near the plaza where his father-in-law built a
home. Two months after the wedding, my grandmother became
pregnant and she gave birth to my father the next spring. The day after
my father was born, my grandfather received a letter and it said that he
had to fight in the war. Grandfather maintained his family and returned
