This document discusses facts and statistics about anxiety disorders and depression. It states that anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illnesses affecting both children and adults, with nearly 40 million Americans suffering from anxiety and/or depression. However, only about 1/3 of those suffering receive treatment. Both anxiety disorders and depression are treatable medical conditions that can be helped by a professional, but are often underreported and undertreated. The risks factors for anxiety disorders are complex and can include genetics, brain chemistry, personality and life events.
