SlideShare a Scribd company logo
 From infancy children notice the differences around them.
 Throughout their lives they are continually constructing their personal
and social identities through the knowledge, skills and behaviors they
acquire through their multiple social and cultural contexts.
 Bias, discomforts and trauma impacts children’s identities and
development.
 Depending on their circumstances and contexts, how they absorb
messages about prejudice and social advantage or disadvantage, how
they think about the differences and similarities among the people
that surround them, they shape their identity on the outside and
construct from the inside.
 Providing a positive and accurate learning experience can help
children understand about themselves and others, make sense of the
human similarities and differences, and develop a holistic
understanding and thus foster the development of the whole child.
1. Develop children’s identity and self-esteem
2. Help children be comfortable with differences.
3. Help children recognize bias and stereotypes
4. Empower children to take action against bias
Anti bias education

Anti bias education

  • 2.  From infancy children notice the differences around them.  Throughout their lives they are continually constructing their personal and social identities through the knowledge, skills and behaviors they acquire through their multiple social and cultural contexts.  Bias, discomforts and trauma impacts children’s identities and development.  Depending on their circumstances and contexts, how they absorb messages about prejudice and social advantage or disadvantage, how they think about the differences and similarities among the people that surround them, they shape their identity on the outside and construct from the inside.  Providing a positive and accurate learning experience can help children understand about themselves and others, make sense of the human similarities and differences, and develop a holistic understanding and thus foster the development of the whole child.

  • 4. 2. Help children be comfortable with differences.
  • 5. 3. Help children recognize bias and stereotypes
  • 6. 4. Empower children to take action against bias
