Benefits and Misconceptions of Hunting
General Purpose: is to persuade
Specific Purpose: By the end of the speech the audience should understand the concepts hunting provides and how hunting is needed to support our community.
Thesis: There are many misconceptions of hunting in today society due to media and other forms of miscued information, this presentations aim is to give key points on why hunting is beneficial.
Organizational Pattern: Problem-
Solution
Introduction
Attention Getter: Denzel Washington who is a well-known actor once said “If you don’t read the newspaper you’re uniformed. If you do read the newspaper you’re uninformed.” The meaning behind this quote is quite powerful and plays an effect on many things because of it. Hunting has been portrayed in the media as cold blood killing, and it has received horrible feedback and protest because of it.
Reason to Listen: Hunting has dated back to the prehistoric days where people have had to hunt for food to survive. Hunting has gained the rep of becoming a sport. That people just go out to hunt for trophies. When the real goal is to go out and provide food for your family to survive. When the well-being of your family comes into to play. Anyone will do anything to make sure they are okay.
Thesis: There are many misconceptions of hunting in today society due to media and other forms of miscued information, this presentations aim is to give key points on why hunting is beneficial.
Credibility: I have been hunting for 8 years and know what hunting is all about. Along with hunting one must obtain a hunting license and learn deeper facts about the world of hunting. I have obtained this license which I believe makes me a good source of information for this topic.
Preview Main Points:
1. First I will discuss the common misconceptions of hunting
2. Second I will look into the benefits of hunting.
Body:
The media plays a large role in the lives of many. With the media being such a large contributor to ideological views. People tend to develop miscued ideas about certain topics. Conceptions such as these are over exaggerated conceptions of what people would believe hunting looks like. Some of the most common ideas that are developed from miscued media are: It’s cold blood killing, Animals can suffer, hunting accidents, and people don’t ask permission to hunt the land (Animals, S). These are just a few of the misconceptions people tend to have that aren’t always entirely true.
Looking at the other side Hunting dates back to the prehistoric time of cave men fighting to survive. Which means these humans beings hunted to provide food, for themselves and their families. I would like to look at a couple key factors that makes hunting necessary for our community (Post-Gazette, J. H).
1. Hunting provides economic benefits to the nation’s capital. Because when people decide to hunt things must be purchase in order to hunt. Things such as hunting courses, hunting licen.

Body:
The media plays a large role in the lives of many. With the
media being such a large contributor to ideological views.
People tend to develop miscued ideas about certain topics.
Conceptions such as these are over exaggerated conceptions of
what people would believe hunting looks like. Some of the most
common ideas that are developed from miscued media are: It’s
cold blood killing, Animals can suffer, hunting accidents, and
3. people don’t ask permission to hunt the land (Animals, S).
These are just a few of the misconceptions people tend to have
that aren’t always entirely true.
Looking at the other side Hunting dates back to the prehistoric
time of cave men fighting to survive. Which means these
humans beings hunted to provide food, for themselves and their
families. I would like to look at a couple key factors that makes
hunting necessary for our community (Post-Gazette, J. H).
1. Hunting provides economic benefits to the nation’s capital.
Because when people decide to hunt things must be purchase in
order to hunt. Things such as hunting courses, hunting license,
gear to hunt the game. When all these things add up it creates a
large income all together (Hunters Ed, M).
2. The second point I want to look at is the health related
benefits that come with hunting. When one goes hunting it is
very relaxing because it is just you and nature surrounding you.
Doctors have recommended hunting to clear the mind and that it
helps the mind escape. I can personally attest that when I go
hunting, it’s like no other feeling of waking up before the sun
comes up. You just feel like you’re the only one in the world
(Hunters Ed, M).
3. The last point that I will present is what carrying capacity is.
I believe this is my most important point, and for this reason.
Carrying capacity is the amount of animal a certain area can
sustain for a certain amount of time. Hunting is able to control
4. the populations of animals so that populations don’t get too
high and that the animal will die off. Also that food supplies
don’t deplete either (Hunters Ed, M).
Conclusion
Now that we have looked at the overarching effect of hunting
and the miscued information that is involved in the media, as
well as looking at the benefits that come with hunting. Hunting
is a very important piece of what allowed this human race to
survive and which allows us to continue provided stability for
our nation.

Dialogue:
Topics Due: Friday, March 31 on Isidore
Speaking Notes: Immediately Following Presentation (can be
only ½ page of notes, and must also contain written
notes taken during the dialogue and a works cited list)
Presentation Days: Wednesday, April 19
15. Friday, April 21
Monday, April 24
Wednesday, April 26
Time Limit: Every dialogue begins with you taking three (3)
minutes to outline your response to a classmate’s
presentation from the persuasive performances; There is a thirty
(30) second grace period on either end of that time
mark within which you will not be penalized. For every thirty
(30) second period outside of that grace period you
will be penalized five (5) points on your speech grade up to a
maximum of thirty (30) points. For example, if your
presentation runs 2:29 then you will have your grade for the
speech reduced by five (5) points, and if the speech
goes 4:01 then you will be penalized ten (10) points, and so on.
The only official time is kept by the instructor and it
16. begins the moment you start speaking.
Following your three minute statement by each student in your
dialogue group, you will engage in a conversation
with that group about the topics presented by each individual.
This will last roughly 20 minutes, and will be
followed by an opportunity for the rest of the class to engage in
the discussion.
Source Requirement: For this speech you are required to use at
least three (3) credible sources. These can be
sources you previously used in the first two assignments.
Additionally, you must reference at least one other
position offered by a classmate in the second round of
performances, and focus your speech in response to that
[those] perspectives. If you fail to use the appropriate number
of acceptable sources you may be penalized up to
twenty (20) points on your speech grade. Additionally, using
17. websites such as Wikipedia, About.com, AskJeeves,
or other such online encyclopedias will result in an automatic
zero (0) for the grade. Finally, although encouraged,
interviews, personal correspondence, atlases, dictionaries and
encyclopedias do not count toward your total number
of sources—though they must be listed in the bibliography and
properly cited within the outline.
Topic: This is the culminating presentation for the course. In it
you must accomplish four things: 1) Demonstrate
an understanding of the perspective offered by at least one other
classmate in their presentation from the second
round of speeches. This means you must accurately summarize
their position; 2) Discuss the areas where you
agree, but focus on where you disagree with their position, and
explain why you disagree with their position; 3) Re-
state your position and explain how it may have changed as a
18. result of the presentations by your classmates; and 4)
Engage your fellow classmates regarding their three minute
statements. This is civil dialogic response to positions
taken by other people demonstrating an understanding, but not
necessarily an agreement with their ideas and
positions. In the discussion, you also must follow the principles
of dialogue when classmates respond to what you
said.
