It outlines how these technologies can increase productivity by allowing work from anywhere and focus on translating rather than IT issues. However, it also warns of security risks like lost or stolen devices exposing sensitive data. The presentation provides tips for using technologies safely and minimizing risks, like encrypting files, updating passwords, and backing up work. Overall, it presents mobile devices and cloud computing as tools to leverage if used carefully while managing associated cybersecurity threats.
Within the context of its 150th anniversary, Kaba entered into a collaborative arrangement with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich for research and training on information security. The goal is to bridge theory and practice through joint projects between Kaba, ETH researchers, and other partners from industry. One project focuses on enhancing security on smartphones by addressing how to securely delete sensitive personal and business data. A second project aims to develop new access control systems based on formal languages to meet future requirements for security and convenience. Kaba views the partnership as an opportunity to gain insights from ETH's expertise in information security research.

The document discusses JISC's VRE programs from 2004-2011 which aimed to support collaborative research through online tools and technologies. It summarizes the three phases of the program, including 15 experimental projects in VRE1, 4 demonstrator projects in VRE2 focused on user practices, and 10 projects in VRE3 broadening usage. Specific VRE projects are highlighted from the natural sciences, social sciences, and domains like myExperiment, CREW and VERA.
Candlestick charts provide valuable information about market trends and reversals. They display the open, close, high, and low prices each period to identify patterns like Doji stars, piercing lines, and engulfing patterns that signal potential trend changes. Different candlestick types like hammers and hanging men also give clues. Proper interpretation requires considering content, clarity of the pattern, and confirmation from other indicators to time trades well. Candlestick patterns helped traders like Homma achieve consecutive wins and can similarly benefit modern investors.
This document provides an overview of the British film production company Working Title Films. It discusses how Working Title Films was founded in 1984 and began as a small, independent production company co-producing films with Channel 4. It achieved success with films like My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) but struggled financially. Working Title then began pursuing co-productions with American studios like Universal to gain financial stability and access to international markets. This template of British films with American stars became Working Title's model and led to massive commercial hits like Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). However, not all of Working Title's films are successful and some have lost money. The document examines both the successes and failures of Working Title's approach over the
This document summarizes a presentation on internet and cyber security trends given in Copenhagen in 2014. It discusses how security risks have evolved from focusing on personal computers to broader issues around cloud computing and the growing "Internet of Things." The presentation notes that while cloud services may be more professionally managed, they also give users less control over their data. It predicts the IT security industry will change significantly with the rise of internet-connected devices and a possible backlash against cloud computing. Open source software will be important to solutions, and new legislation may be needed to address security issues from devices in areas like healthcare, transportation and disclosure of breaches.
1. The document discusses the advantages of open source software (OSS) for businesses, providers, and travelers in the transaction processing and travel industries. It notes OSS provides greater innovation, faster response to changing needs, and ability to integrate different systems.
2. For businesses, OSS offers lower costs, access to global collaboration, and avoidance of vendor lock-in. For providers, it improves access to skills, adoption of new technologies, and lowers total ownership costs.
3. For travelers, OSS enables greater services and democratization of offerings that may not otherwise be financially viable. The document concludes OSS will significantly impact computing and information technology.
This document summarizes the Future Internet Assembly 2013 conference. It provides details on the participants, sessions, posters, demos, discussions, and programs from the 3 day event in Dublin, Ireland. Key topics included Internet of Things architectures, open data, and bridging the gap between researchers and entrepreneurs. Interoperability, standardization, and building communities around consensus were discussed as important to further innovation.
Cloud security and cloud adoption publicJohn Mathon
The document discusses cloud security and technology adoption. It argues that cloud security is not inherently riskier than traditional enterprise security, citing statistics showing more breaches occur within enterprises. The cloud is growing rapidly due to cost savings and agility benefits. While security concerns remain, cloud providers are improving practices like multi-factor authentication. Overall risks are similar between cloud and non-cloud, including data breaches, loss, and hijacking. The cloud introduces some new concerns around APIs, mobile access, and sharing of customer data.
This document discusses open cloud computing in Europe. It notes that Europe's strategy does not involve building a single "European Super-Cloud," but rather having public cloud offerings from European providers that meet standards for being competitive, open, and secure. It also discusses public authorities setting up private clouds for sensitive data. The document outlines issues with the current situation, like fragmentation of the digital single market and problems with contracts. It then provides information about the OW2 Open Source Cloudware initiative and its goals of developing an open source cloudware stack and ecosystem through various projects.

Breaking up the silos - Utilizing data across companies and domains - Reflect...Symposium on Society 5.0
Keynote speech by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Liggesmeyer, Fraunhofer IESE.
Abstract:
Digital Transformation affects many companies and industries in a variety of domains. Intelligent use of data shapes new ecosystems and enables new business models that often span a variety of different domains. This keynote will provide insights from two perspectives: the perspective of Fraunhofer that enables industries in Europe and beyond to be pioneers in this new world. This perspective will provide information on initiatives such as the Fraunhofer Data Spaces and International Data Spaces Association, and Industrie 4.0 initiatives such as the BaSys 4.0 project that aims at a unified middleware for Industrie 4.0, which is led by Fraunhofer IESE. Important aspects such as the role of business models, guaranteeing system-level qualities, and engineering and simulation of ecosystems will be part of this perspective. The second perspective is a personal perspective as former president of the German Informatics Society which also touches societal aspects.

Stefan Freitag presented on the D-Grid infrastructure in Germany. D-Grid supported multiple middleware platforms like gLite, UNICORE, and Globus Toolkit across over 30,000 CPU cores and 5 petabytes of storage. A reference system was created to help resources install software stacks consistently. A cloud computing prototype was also developed using OpenNebula to utilize idle resources and attract new users. Lessons learned included a lack of adoption of the reference system and legal issues around dual-use technologies and liability in virtual organizations. Future challenges include merging with the German NGI initiative to avoid duplication and better integrating services.

Most company systems do not have a mobile connection. The systems are only accessible within the organization from PCs locally or through VPNs. Sometimes these IT systems can only be accessed from special terminals.
Many companies need to bring important information directly to their coworkers everywhere. Since the employees can’t always be located in the company or be in front of their computer, they often need a mobile connection.
What role for the information specialist in the era of autonomous machines? What responsibilities attach to information that is in machine code, unreadable to humans, and how do we manage it?
