What is the temple of Karnak?
The Temple of Karnak was a city of temples. It is dedicated to
the Gods Amun, Mut and Khonsu. It is one of the biggest
religious buildings in the world. It covers about 200 acres.
How old is the temple of Karnak?
The Temple of Karnak was built more than 2,000 years ago in
ancient Egypt. The Temple may be very old, but it hasn’t fallen
apart. It still exists now.
What did the Temple of
Karnak look like?
The temple of Karnak is decorated using pictures and
statues. They usually put pictures on walls and tall columns.
They put statues on the ground.

“the living image of Aten, the sun disk.” His father
wanted people to only worship this one god.

He later changed his name to
Tutankhamun, which means “the living
image of amun” because he wanted to bring
the people back to traditional Polytheistic
beliefs.

● King Tut became a pharaoh at the age of 10 and
died at the age of 19.
● His father was a pharaoh before he was.
● His intact tomb was discovered in Egypt’s Valley
of the Kings in 1922.

● His tomb was filled with gold jewelry. This
shows he was very important.
● The tomb has been sealed for over 3,200
years.

King Tut died from a broken leg infection. He broke
his leg by falling out of a chariot.

and who was buried there?
● There are at least 63 discovered tombs.
● The pharoahs of the 18 through 20
dynasties are buried in the valley of the
kings
What is in the valley of the kings?
The Valley of the Kings was meant to be a
place to put their pharaoh’s tombs. Inside the
tombs were traps but if you made it to the last
room you would see art, a sarcophagus,
treasures, games, and a book of the dead to
lead you through the afterlife.

Rosetta Stone?
In 1799, French soldiers of
Napoleon Bonaparte found the
Rosetta Stone. It was carved in
196 BC about 2220 years ago. The
Rosetta Stone is a big stone that
has the the Egyptian writing
hieroglyphics along with another
type of Egyptian writing, and
Greek writing.
The Rosetta Stone helped archeologists
decode hieroglyphics. They decoded it from
the Greek writing on it. Because of this they
could uncover many secrets about ancient
Egypt.
