1. Analysis And Synthesis Essay
Crafting an Analysis and Synthesis Essay can be a challenging endeavor, demanding a profound
understanding of the subject matter, critical thinking skills, and the ability to weave together
disparate ideas into a cohesive narrative. The complexity arises from the dual nature of the task
– analysis requires a meticulous examination of individual components, while synthesis
necessitates the integration of these components into a unified whole.
Embarking on such an essay requires a comprehensive grasp of the topic, as well as the ability to
identify key elements for analysis. Research is a crucial step, involving the exploration of various
sources to gather relevant information. Once the data is compiled, the challenge lies in dissecting
it effectively, discerning patterns, and drawing insightful conclusions. Analyzing the information
in a way that goes beyond surface-level understanding adds another layer of difficulty.
On the synthesis front, the task is to connect the analyzed elements, finding relationships and
overarching themes that unify the diverse components. This demands not only a profound
comprehension of each element but also a creative mindset to identify connections that might not
be immediately apparent. Crafting a seamless narrative that transitions between analysis and
synthesis without losing coherence poses an additional hurdle.
Moreover, the writing process itself requires a careful balance between presenting individual
analyses and integrating them into a cohesive whole. The essay must maintain a logical flow,
ensuring that each point contributes to the overarching argument. Precision in language and a
nuanced approach are essential to convey complex ideas concisely.
In essence, writing an Analysis and Synthesis Essay demands a combination of research, critical
thinking, and effective communication skills. It requires a writer to navigate through intricate
details while keeping an eye on the bigger picture. The challenge lies not only in dissecting the
components but also in the art of synthesis, where disparate ideas converge to form a unified
and meaningful narrative.

2. An Analysis of White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Zadie Smith s multicultural, post colonial novel has been widely discussed in the
literary world. At the age of 25, Zadie Smith captures the immensely believable
lives of an aging Bangladeshi Muslim man, a too concerned middle class white
woman poking her nose in all the wrong business, and an adolescent half Jamaican
girl with self esteem issues. Over the span of about 30 years, the three families in the
book undergo a wide web of separate but somehow connected circumstances, and
Smith became an award winning author because of her writing.
It is not to say that Smith has not gone through criticism. Here s what one review had
to say about the (at the time) budding author:
This kind of precocity in so young a writer has ... Show more content on

She earns her awards through an expansive, almost manic style that she makes her
own, which is why it earns its placement into the genre coined hysterical realism
(Wood). In studying the many parts that make up her style, we can gain a better
appreciation for what made Zadie Smith jump from an English undergraduate student
in Cambridge to the literary darling she is today (O Grady).
The first technique to be mentioned involves a quality of the book that is first
displayed before the story even starts, enveloped in a quote on a single page before
her acknowledgments:
What is past is prologue . And to White Teeth, it s true; every major instance in the
plot is somehow rooted in the previous generation. Smith s style in developing this
central idea is much like the spastic jumping of time sequence that film director
Quentin Tarantino displays, enriching the detail of the stories involved by going to
scenarios before the main action, returning to the present plot, and even returning
back to the past to reveal even more that has been withheld. A notable example of
this is one of the last scenes in the book, with Archie uncovering what actually
happened in his first encounter with Dr. Sick , previously concealed by Smith with
the sound of a gun shot and Archie s limping features. But this style is featured not
just as a method of obscuring plot and creating suspense;

I decided to explore different career options with Wells Fargo other than
management roles. The move to Colorado needed to happen by the end of April and
because of the time constraints transferring into a management role was an unrealistic
goal. I started networking and followed the capstone project guidelines. In the class
lecture for week 8 the University Of Buffalo School Of Managementprovides
suggestions for questions to ask during an exploratory interview, Setting up
appointments with all the friends, professional acquaintances and corporate bigwigs
you can is just the first step. More important is knowing what to say once you arrive.
Since wasting contacts time is unacceptable, you should prepare an agenda before
each meeting. Decide what you would like to find out from your contact, and then
prepare questions to elicit that information (40 Questions to Ask, 2015, para. 1).
After reaching out to former co workers I was able to get two hiring managers
contact information. One was for the mortgage department and the other overlapped
with retail banking where I could step down from my current role. From that point
forward I knew I needed to make an important decision and decide what part of the
bank I wanted to transfer too. I took the initiative by reaching out to the Sales
Manager in Mortgage. In the Journal of Applied Psychology, Interviewers may

chocolate is based on the traditional sweet making process. Alongwith that the
chocolate has a filling of yoghurt inside that has healthy digestive enzymes. The
product offering is targeted for the huge asian population and the students of school

differentiating feature of the chocolate Indian is the yoghurt filled inside the

a touch of a global cocoa taste. The chocolate bar s differentiated offering is the
yoghurt blended with the Indian sweetening agents alongwith cocoa. We plan to
market our product offering to the United kingdom which happens to be a big
chocolate consumer. United Kingdom being a great strategic center for expansion
into the European Union market would provide a launchpad for the chocolate to
get recognition and publicity. The chocolate brand Indian would target the huge
asian population who relate to the Indian tastes and are usually deprived from the
Indian sweets. The second target audience would be the youngsters, primarily
school and college students who are ready to experiment with tastes and new

large consumer base and penetration pricing will be used as a
5. Proposal On Adult Literacy
Final Proposal
Introduction:
Little is known for acquiring literacy. As Quigley (1997) claimed, we actually barely
know about those who were studied in the literacy studies. According to a study
conducted by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of
Literacy, 32 million adults in the U.S. can t read. That s about 14 percent of the
population. It is a call for researchers to draw attention on developing adult literacy
program. Admittedly, many articles discuss about adult literacy levels and their
participation in a general view (Kutner, Greenberg, Baer, 2005; U.S. Department of
Education Co operation and Development), but this article intends to focus on a case
study of low literacy adult learners in ESL (English as a second language) reading
context. The main point of this research was to observe how the reading acquisition
happened in LLA (Low Literacy Adult). Are there any useful learningstrategies for
LLA reading? In broad prospect, the research eagers to enlighten those who teach and
instruct ESL adult learners.
Literature:
1.Discussion about Literacy
Literacy is a fundamental social skill in our life. Many past studies of adult literacy
have tried to count the low literacy in the U.S, evaluating literacy as a simple
checklist that individuals either do or do not have, however, the definition of the
literacy are still argued in the teaching field that many researchers think it s too
simple to narrow down the literacy into rigid categories.
6. Celiac Disease And Celiacs Disease
Celiacs disease (gluten sensitive enteropathy) is a condition where in some people,
gluten cannot be digested and causes an immune response. Gluten is a protein found
in wheat, barley, oats, and rye. In some people who take in and ingest gluten, an
enzyme named transglutaminase transforms the gluten into a chemical that triggers
an immune reaction, causing irritation and inflammation of the lining of the small
intestine (Wedro, 2016). The microvilli that make up the inside surface of the
intestine are destroyed, causing nutirents to pass without being, like our body needs
from our diet. This can cause damage to other organs in the body due to
malabsorption. (Wedro, 2016) Organs that depends the most on nutrients to function
properly consist of the liver, bones and the brain. This is crucial especially in
children because malnutrition can lead to abnormal growth and development.
(Wedro, 2016) Celiacs disease can also be known by Coeliac Disease. Roughly 8,000
years after its first appearence, celiacs disease was identified and named. A Greek
physician named Aretaeus of Cappadocia who lived in the first century AD, wrote
about The Coeliac Affection. Also, he called it koiliakos after the Greek word koelia
meaning abdomen. (Guandalini, 2007) Another 17 centuries passed, and in the early
19th century Dr. Mathew Baillie, presumably unaware of Aretaeus, published his
observations on a chronic diarrheal disorder regarding adults, causing malnutrition
and characterized by a
7. Borders And The United States
Borders is a topic that has been currently talked about frequently in the news over
the past year, which has got me thinking what are borders? A basic definition of
borders are physical or imaginary lines that divide geographic areas. However borders
are not always tangible, they can be psychological as well. My definition of borders
are they are barriers, real or unreal, based on certain ideas that separate for specific
reasons. But since there is no standard definition that everyone agrees on, each
person has their very own definition of what borders are, what they mean, and what
purpose they serve. During prehistoric times, borders were not necessary. Peoples
moved in small groups and traveled on really large land masses, so the chance of
them meeting one another was highly unlikely, and therefore there were no big
fights over supplies and territories. Borders are a colonial invention that came with
the desire to take over and control land and it s people. They became necessary
when our relationship with each other became a conflicting one over supplies and
power. It is important to remember that the world was not always separated by
borders. A borderis an actual or artificial boundary that separates geographic regions.
Borders are political barriers. They divide towns, cities, counties, provinces, states,
and countries. A border surrounds the region that a specific governing body has
authority over. The government of an area can only make and carry out laws within
8. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tourism
Introduction
This report will analyse the relative advantages and disadvantages of tourism
priorities in Libiza. Tourism has become a significant sector that has an impact on
development of economics of the countries with touristic cities in the world.
Libiza consists 180 big and small islands located in the Mediterranean Sea with a
warm weather. All the islands are separated by canals and connected by bridges with
an impressive design and full of history. The history of the country consists in
beautiful stories and impressive moments among the time such as the beginning of
the country in the medieval conquered by Romans, Mongolian and Chinese empires.

keeping even today the official language, the Latin. After the 19th century was
overtook by Britain and Mussolini Italy following a period of Germany domination in
the time of the Second Great World War. The country won her independency in 1949
keeping strong relationship with the Soviet Union.
The political structure is very stable with an open door policy but different opinion
among the government is making the development process hard to work.
Findings of this report will show you how culture tourism in Libiza will be the best
way of economic development, thru comparing with the most popular touristic cities

9. Empathy In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, the author Harper Lee shows that it is
necessary to have empathy to live successfully in the real world. Lee uses Atticus
Finch and Calpurnia to teach Scout and Jem to have empathy just as they have
empathy themselves. One day Jems Friend Walter comes over to their house for
dinner. Scout, while eating notices that Walter was pouring lots of syrup all over his
food he starts to yell at how nasty she thought it was. Just then Calpernia calls her out
to talk to her. Cal said, Don t matter who they are, anybody sets foot in this house s
yo company... Yo folks might be better n the Cunningham s but it don t count for
nothin the way you re disgracin em. (Lee 39) Saying this, Calpurnia teaches Scout that

Now Tom Robinson is showing having empathy for others. During the trial, one of
the prosecutors sarcastically says that in Tom s story, he was too nice to have
helped Mayella Ewell get her chifferobe. He was mocking and denying the fact that
Tom Would have done the job for a nickel. In response Tom Robinson said he tried
to help her... [he] felt right sorry for her, she seemed to try more n the rest of em...
(Lee 264). Saying this, Tom is highlighting his sincerity in helping Mayella
because of his empathy for her. Also because he thought that life was harder on her
taking into consideration that she was an Ewell . Boo Radley also showed
empathy towards others. The day when Jem s pants were torn and caught onto the
wire fence by the Radley s house, Jem reported that When [he] went back for [his]
breeches they were all in a tangle when [he] was getting out of em, [he] couldn t
get em loose. When [he] went back, they were folded across the fence... like they
were expecting [him]... They d been sewed up. Not like a lady sewed em, like
somethin [he d try to do (Lee 66). This report implies that it is most possible that
the one who sewed the pants was Boo Radley. Since it is likely that boo Radley did
it, it shows that boo Radley Had empathy for Jem. He knew that if Jem went back to
Atticus with tore pants he would be in trouble. Knowing this he decided to help out.
Overall Harper Lee uses different characters in her novel to display and portray the
fact that empathy towards others is something that everyone must have in order to
the benefit of
10. Essay about The Potential Effects of Discrimination
Task 3 P3 The potential effects of discrimination
There are lots of potential effects related to discrimination. It includes things like
disempowerment, low self esteem and self identity and also marginalisation. I am
now going to explain these effects and connect them with a case study.
Disempowerment is when a person or group of people may be made to feel less
powerful or confident. Some people may try to fight against the discrimination
causing an argument but many people do not and they lose the will to fight against
it. As a result of this type of discrimination, they may then become depressed and
feel devalued as well as disempowered. This could lead to health issues and may lead
to them taking tablets which would make them more ... Show more content on

This means they do not trust health and social care workers and organisations to be
looking after and supporting them.
All types of discrimination can also lead to negative behaviour and can partly cause
aggression or crime; even living in poverty and experiencing discrimination can
affect an individual s behaviour as well. Due to the negligence they may take out
their frustration on the care providers or others in the society which would make
them in the wrong and after being investigated this may or may not change because
of the client s self esteem or pressure levels. As well as taking it out on the care
providers, they are also able to take it out on health and social care professionals.

several years. When she was diagnosed, No information was given to the couple.
They had no relatives that they could rely on around them for support.
Betty had a fall a few weeks after her diagnoses. It took a fall and an admission to
hospital for the health and social care team to realise they were struggling. Finally,
workers involved Betty and Arthur fully in giving information about Betty s
condition and possible sources of help e.g. meals on wheels, luncheon club, day care
etc. This enabled Betty to be fully included in as plan of care which enabled her to
11. Canadian Culture Vs American Popular Culture
Due the the geographic reason, Canadian culture is often seen as similar to the
United States. For instance, language, political beliefs, food, religion and social
well being. I agree that most part of the American popular culture is being adopted
by most Canadians because of the powerful media such as movies, films and books
are produced by the American. Massey Leveque, who is a chancellor of the
University of Toronto, argued that Canadais cultural dependent in its uncritical use of
American education philosophy (as cited in Gasher, M., Skinner, D., Lorimer,R.,
2012,p.196). Hollywood, one of the biggest and most famous film corporations in the
world, is devastating part of the Canadian culture. The reason is that by multi billion

13. Is Cassia A Dynamic Or Dynamic Characters
Cassia was more of a dynamic than Guy Montag because, We see Cassia change of
the course of the book. Although Guy did change of the course of the book, he
didn t change as thoroughly and as much as Cassia. Cassia changed her entire view
and trust of society, while Guy just changed his view of books. Guy and Cassia are
actually very similar with their rebel against society but, I believe that Cassia was
more Dynamic and changed more. At the beginning of Matched, Cassia had strong
trust in society and believed it was for her best interest to do as they say, as the
story unfolded with saw her become more rebellious. Cassia learned how to write in
cursive, read text that was not approved and illegal, and assist in the hiding of an

14. Jan Van Eyck Madonna In The Church
Architecture is a very important part of many biblical paintings and art pieces. It
can emphasize aspects of the piece that would not have other wise been obvious,
and it can represent deeper ideas and themes in an artwork. Similarly, scale and
detail work in art pieces to emphasize certain features and draw attention to more
important characters or ideas. In Jan Van Eyck s, Madonna in the Church, and
Madonna of Chancellor Rolin, as well as Domenico Ghirlandaio s, The Visitation,
these characteristics play an important role in how the sacred protagonists are
depicted and emphasized. In two of the works, Madonna in the Church and Madonna
of Chancellor Rolin, architecture plays a significant role in how the viewer s eye
moves through the painting
15. Multiculturalism And Media Analysis
While American mainstream media has often been notorious and often ridiculed for
being directed towards specifically white audiences, the rise of populations of color
has recently altered the target audience of media industries. While minorities have

the needs and desires of other non white individuals. Thus, the panelists featured in

In spite of the progress made so far for diversity in American media, the panelists still

weaken the power of white dominated media whether that be redefining historical
notions regarding race or limiting the amount of white staff within media outlets.
While the panelists featured in the video all share similar beliefs and arguments for
appealing to multicultural audiences, there are also many other scholarly sources and
online articles that point out similar key issues. Despite the focus on Asian American
representation within the articles, the same arguments are made by the panelists
because several other minorities have experienced the same struggle to achieve more
exposure in an industry that is still heavily dominated by
16. The Onset Of Bulimia Nervosa
The purpose of the study is to identify what may be the onset of bulimia nervosa
and whether or not it is related to a person being subjected to criticism based on
their weight/ shape and eating habits. This is the first of studies that take a look at
a year prior to having bulimia nervosa. This study was conducted through a control
case study which is a study that looks at both a group that does have a disorder and
a group that does not have the disorder. It also determines if a factor affects either of
the groups and how that factor affects it. The study observed three separate group of
women. The women with eating disorders were recruited from eating disorder
treatment settings, which were women who were previously diagnosed with bulimia
nervosa. The healthy women along with women with a psychiatric diagnosis were
recruited from high schools and university campuses. A total of 180 women were

and ranged between the ages of 15 38. The second group, which were the healthy
women, their age ranged from 15 39. The healthy women reported not being
diagnosed with any disorder. The last group of sixty women s ages ranged from 14
38 and they were diagnosed as having psychiatric disorders. The study was done on
all Caucasian women. Women were excluded if they were pregnant, had physical
conditions or psychosis (mental disorder). For the healthy women, they were first

18. The Sociological Aspects Of Aging
The beginning of the 21st century has been the most remarkable time in the
history of human life with respect to life expectancy. Individuals on a planetary
scale are living longer than was previously envisaged. More than 36 million people
in some of the world s largest economies, along with a number of European
countries, are above the age of 60. Better living conditions, improved health
standards and proper medical care are key determinants of longevity of life.
Individuals who are 40 years old can prepare to age well if they understand certain
aspects that can aid them to age gracefully. Ageingwell is dependent on the extent to
which individuals are able to remain conscious of the social, psychological, and
physical challenges of the aged.
The sociological aspects of aging are defined by the activities an individual engages in
while transitioning to old age. To age well, a person needs to take part in social
activities that deal with family or the community. For instance, joining a members
club or offering to volunteer in certain activities aid in ageing well. It is, however,
important to note that social perspectives of aging are diverse across different
cultures. For instance, a 40 year old individual in the United States may not have
similar ageing aspects as a person living in Africa or parts of Europe. Gerontologists
have on many occasions provided a number of reasons to explain the essence of
aging, yet such perspectives can comprehensively be understood

And 1946
The changing roles of women in Canada between 1900 and 1946 greatly impacted
women s lives today. Women during this time period led movements to gain rights
for themselves. The Women s Christian Temperance Union, Flappers, and the
Famous Five showed women s strength in society. Women displayed their
contributions to Canada as they worked in different industries. Due to the changing
roles of women during these years, women s power resulted in the gaining of rights
and personhood. Paragraph 1 (Women s Movements): The suffrage movement

This was because they were expected to be seen as the motherly figure in the
household and they were presumed to be the ones to take care of the children. The
women who were in the working force during this time worked in any industry
available. It was very rare to have women working before the first World War, and
those who worked did so to provide and support their family. Certain jobs, such as
in the government, were not open to women because they were considered to be
appropriate for men only. In 1916, conscription was introduced; all able bodied
men were enlisted in the army. This made the need for women workers urgent.
Some women went overseas to serve as nurses in the war. If they were not nurses,
they were recruited to work in areas that were formerly reserved for men. The
majority of women worked in factories to produce weapons. Despite doing the same
jobs as men, they were still paid considerably less. In 1917, over four hundred
women who worked in munition factories died from overexposure to trinitroluene, a
chemical compound that is used in explosive weapons. Their skin turned yellow from
this chemical as a result of not being provided with proper safety equipment and
clothing. Working in munition factories put their lives in danger, however, women
still excelled while making weapons for war. Their success gave them the opportunity
to show their contributions to their

My Freshman year of college, I was a mechanical engineering student at the George
Washington University. It was there that I learned how difficult school could
really be. My past schooling experience had not prepared me for this extremely
rigorous program. As one of my requirements for the program was a social science,
I had registered for a history course my first semester. Unknowingly, I had registered
for a third year history class, clearly not the correct class for a freshman engineering
student. I went on to struggle with the amount of work that was assigned for the
course including an 18 page research paper. This course, on top of the difficult
engineering curricula was extremely challenging. At this point, I also realized that

I am particularly interested in attending Rutgers because it has a rich history of
educating students in the field of Environmental Science. In addition, the Center for
Environmental Prediction is an organization that shares my concern and commitment
to the environment. I am hoping to become involved with the CEP and conduct
research and lobbying in conjunction with them. I am also attracted to Rutgers
because it has the best of both worlds from a campus standpoint. I can enjoy the
more rural Cook/Douglass campuses and truly experience nature at places like the
Bamboo garden and the log cabin hiking trails. Yet, just a bus ride away is the
hustle and bustle of George Street and the College Avenue campus. I believe that
by attending Rutgers, I can learn in a professional, experienced environment with
access to knowledgeable faculty and leading edge technology and research. More
importantly, I believe that the Rutgers Curriculum can allow me to develop the
skillset I need to actually make a difference. Classes on solar energy and
environmental tax policy serve as the environmentalist s weapons in the fight for
our planet. I want to use Rutgers as a resource to help not only myself, but the
entire planet. When I think about the term world changing , I think free clean
energy for a nation, zero dependence on fossil fuels, and stopping the extinction of
several keystone species. The world is in a delicate balance now more than ever.
With the geopolitical scale shifting the way it is, environmentalists will face the
greatest challenge yet to protect and preserve. Now it is my time to step up and do
my part, all I need are those willing to teach me

discussion of collective trauma, group narratives, or social memory. Just as I claimed
that individual identity is a socially efficient, shorthand representation of the complex
and contradictory totality of a person, or the self, a skimming through the
Silmarillion of ourselves, so too is the group a symbolic creation to represent an
assemblage of people. This is not to dismiss individual or group identities, nor to say
that identities are not real. Symbols and symbolic creations are extremely powerful,
solidifying social groups, orienting the future for individuals and communities,...

Within any group, members will also belong to any number of additional groups. As
we become a more globalized world with increasing international communication,
trade, and migration, the heterogeneity of a community, whether we speak of a
metropolitan area, a region, or a nation, also increases. Further, the complex number
of roles assumed by any given person in a society increases heterogeneity of
individuals within any particular group and as membership changes and members
personally diversify, so too will the nature of the group s identity. The ongoing
process of constructing and reconstructing group identity is not without
consequences, as every identity implies and at the same time masks a particular

ќ T which can also be written as P=kT and be rearranged as P/T=k and also Pi
/Ti = Pf/Tf. This is considered the Gay Lussac Law. Pressure is proportional to
temperature and inversely proportional to volume and volume is proportional to
temperature. As Gay Lussac has a law, Charles and Boyles has their personal laws.
Boyles thinks that there is an inverse relationship between pressure and volume for
gases with constant amounts of gas and at a constant temperature. This statement
mathematically is P в€
ќ 1/V. It means that pressure is inversely proportional to
volume. Charles Law states that the volume of a fixed amount of gas, at the same
pressure, is proportional to its temperature. If temperature doubles, the volume
doubles. Mathematically, it is Vi/Ti=Vf/Tf. All these law combined is called the
combined gas law and can be mathematically expressed like PiVi/Ti = PfVf/Tf. This
gas law includes the shared relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature,
which include the variables in Boyles, Charles and Gay Lussac s Law. The combined
gas law shows that pressure is inversely proportional to volume, or higher volume
equals lower pressure, pressure is directly proportional to temperature or higher
temperature equals higher pressure, and also that volume is directly proportional to
temperature, or higher temperature equals higher

The Two Identities of an American Icon
Early America was founded on the ideas of the early English colonies combined with
the beliefs of the indigenous people. Conflicts between native tribes and Europeans
characterized the colonial period and significantly impacted both the natives and the
Europeans. Political strife, in addition to economic and territorial tensions, was
commonplace among the indigenous and the colonists. Pocahontas, the princess of the
local Powhatan tribe, played a pivotal role in this early contact between European
and Indigenous American cultures. She often fostered peace between the English
colonists and the Powhatans by befriending the colonists and eventually marrying
one of them. As a result of her position as an emissary and sort of mediator between
the two groups and her marriage, Pocahontas began to assimilate herself to European
beliefs and ideologies by converting to Christianity. The changes that occurred as a
result of Pocahontas marriage to John Rolfe and her conversion to Christianity led to
profound cultural tensions and an ambiguous juxtaposition between her identities as a
Powhatan Princess versus the Christian wife of John Rolfe.
Established on May 14, 1607, the colony of Jamestown, located near present day
Williamsburg, Virginia, was the first permanent English settlement in North America.
In contrast, the Powhatan Empire led by Pocahontas father, Chief

Introduction:
The C S H gel is the most abundant reaction product in cement, occupying about half
of the paste volume, it is also responsible for most of the properties of cement paste.
This is just not because it is a strong or stable phase but because it forms a continuous
layer that binds the cement particles together.
All the other hydration products of cement form discrete crystals that are naturally
strong but do not have good connections to the solid phases they are in contact with
hence cannot contribute much to the overall strength of the cement paste. C S H gel
gets the ability of the to act as a binding phase from its nanometer level structure.
As C S H gel grows outward from the cement particles, it does not form a single
large block or monolithic solid phase but instead develops a complex internal
system of tiny pores, called gel pores. Gel pores are hundreds or thousands of times
smaller than the original capillary pores which are relatively large. The liquid water
present in the gel pores is not part of the solid C S H phase chemically but it is
physically isolated, thus it cannot undergo any further chemical reaction with the
cement.
When hydrated cement paste is observed under microscope at moderate level of
magnification, we could see two apparently different types of C S H gel. One of
these gel is less dense and more porous that appears to occupy

1. Major Themes Throughout the video we looked at the fact that the presence of
blacks in Mexico and Peru seem to be near nonexistent even though there was a large
number of African slaves taken to these two countries. It was even said that the
number of African slaves taken into Mexico and Peru outnumber the slaves that were
in the United States. One aspect of this phenomenon was that in Mexico, the African
culture was mixed with the whites and Spanish culture early on, resulting in the
dilution of African presence in Mexico. After the abolition of slaveryin 1830 the
Catholic Church even allowed interracial marriage between the blacks, whites, and
Spanish. In one part of the video we were shown a wall that the commentator even
called The Sixteen Shades of Blacks because of the different colors of all the people
in the painting to emphasize the intermingling of races. So in current day Mexico
there is very few 100 percent African residents, most are mulatto, moreno, or mestizo,
which are all mixed race. Also the Mexican government decided that in the
seventeenth century that racial categories should be eliminated, while this seemed
to be a step in the right direction for equality, it ended up covering up the rich
African history in Mexico and now a vast majority of citizens of Mexico do not
understand the history they do have. The narrator also found that people in Mexico
seem to hide their blackness. Some people, like Professor Cruz in the video, don t

27. Communication Is Essential For Good Communication
This assignment focuses on: communication, its definition, further explores its
meaning to nursing and how communication develops. Communication is essential
in everyday life and it is vital in conducting any aspect of business. It is an
operation that involves a few stages, whereby actions and words are conveyed in a
way that makes it easier for the listening person to understand and make sense of all
that is being said (Rayudu, C.S 2010). While communication, whereby a person
communicated via noises and stares to send messages has been an existing activity
for over two million years (Rayudu, C. S 2010), it remains a complex phenomenon. It
is always essential for good communication to be conducted effectively in health
settings, as poor communication may lead to conflicts between nurses and patients,
inadvertently leading to poor delivery of care in cases such as, the inquiry into
failings at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust (Francis, 2013, Department of
Health, 2013, Hawthorn, Maureen 2015).
In nursing, communication forms one of the 6Cs (Care, Compassion, Competence,
Communication, Courage and Commitment) core competences integral in the
execution of the profession (Royal College of Nursing 2015). The need for effective
communication has been highlighted by high profile cases where unfortunately
innocent young and old lives have been lost for example; failings at Mid
Staffordshire NHS Foundation and the Baby Peter s case. (Community care 2009,

28. Reflection Paper On Refugees
The first day of my internship at the Refugee Legal Service in Dublin, Ireland I
learned the difference between watching news clips on refugees, and what it
meant to actually go through the whole process. The asylum process is a
painstaking, time consuming, and emotional ordeal. During my time there, I
ended up meeting with dozens of refugees, but there was one event that I can still
remember clearly. I was invited to help work on a case involving a woman and her
son fleeing from South Africa due to facial scarring on the first born child. After a
meeting with several members of our legal team, I reached out to the caseworker
and asked if there was anything extra I could do to help their case. She asked that I
try to find more evidence to support the claim that facial scarring was still going on
in the village the family was from. After spending days researching the area the
village was in, I was able to find other accounts of facial scarring. Because of my
extra efforts that helped her case, I was invited to attend the hearing at the High
Court. This opportunity was incredible and overwhelming and I know this was
only a fraction of the work that you have to go through to be granted asylum. The
hearing was eight hours, long and I was one of the few people allowed to sit in the
back of the courtroom and take notes. Throughout the entire day it was interesting to
see how the asylum process actually works, as opposed to hearing or reading about
it. During the lunch break I

Results from a nationally conducted survey show that ninety six percent of
Americans agree that society carries the obligation of caring for and protecting
animal companions ( Dollars and Sense 2). This public outcry for better pet treatment
applies to Ohioans as well; the movement s increasing popularity brings up the
question of whether or not shelters in Ohio should adopt a no kill policy or stand by
the old euthanasia philosophy. Supporters of kill shelters complain that the
alternative overwhelmingly relies on external funds and volunteers and could become
overpopulated with pets. In contrast, proponents of the no kill policy argue that it is
more humane than its opponent, employing methods such as neutering,. foster care,

Advocates of kill shelters often complain that no kill shelters are a hindrance due to
excessive dependence on volunteers and funds and the risk they bring of pet
overpopulation. In reality, no kill shelters work avidly to mitigate the chance of
overpopulation through desexing animals, encouraging adoption, and using foster
homes; additionally, these shelters only use euthanasia as a final recourse unlike kill
shelters that use it as the primary method. Moreover, shelters that adopt the no kill
policy provide more economic benefits than their adversaries because they use less
expensive methods of care, bring in revenue through adoption, and use more
volunteers than employees. Most American citizens agree that saving and caring for
animals is an important goal; in order to complete this mission, Ohio shelters should
abolish their kill philosophy and adopt the kinder, more humane no kill

32. The Causes of the First World War
This question has formed part of the historiography of the causes of the First World
War, a historical debate that has endured ever since the conflict ended. It
periodically resurfaces with new theories being advanced such as the Fischer
thesis, usually on account of the release of previously unseen documents or
because of a shift in the political climate. It has emerged to the fore once again
because this year is the centennial of the war s outbreak and there are plans to
commemorate it nationally across the UK. In order to fully understand how
Britain s decision to go to war against Germany is best explained one must engage
into the debate revolving around the question of the extent to which Britain and
other countries were responsible for causing war. This helps explain the intention
Britain had for war which is vital in understanding their decision making process to
cause war in the first place. Some schools of thought have come to the conclusion
that it was everybody or nobody the continent slithered over the brink into the
boiling cauldron of war without any trace of apprehension or dismay. 1 That
analysis will be considered in this essay as will the widespread thesis that it was
Germany s aggression which not only created the preconditions for war, but also
triggered Britain into war with the political imbalance of power being created from
the growing naval and colonial expansion of Germany. Other factors that help explain
why Britain went to war against Germany

The economic value of the instruments/ tools in which the United States Federal
Reserve System uses to manipulate and command the money supply can be seen in
the way the Fed uses open market operations. According to Chapter 34 s: Monetary
policy notes hand out, Open market operations refers to the Fed s buying and
selling of government bonds...These bonds can be traded to commercial banks and
to the public. According to Economics 20e textbook Open market operations are the
most important day to day instrument the Fed uses to influence the money supply
(Brue pg.752). When the Fed sells bonds on the open market it decreases the money
supply in circulation, as it reduces the reserves of banks the Fed has the potential to
limit how much money the commercial banks can lend. If the Fed buys bonds back
from the open market it increases the reserves of commercial banks which
sequentially will increase the country s overall money supply (CrashCourse). The

Here Blake is exposing the innocence that has been corrupted due to the present
evil. This line fills the readers mind with a dreadful image of children being
stripped away of their innocence. Here Blake specifically targets children, which
are looked upon as pure and guiltless to help get his point across to the reader.
Blake s genius is evident throughout the poem where his changing meter directly
correlates to the point he is making at the moment. The meter is changed in the last
line of the first stanza from iambic tetrameter to anapestic dimeter possibly to
stress the section (Damon, 1965) The third stanza is anaspectic for the first foot but
then reverts to iambic for the last two feet of the line. The speaker begins here by
condemning main foundations like the Church and the military capitalizing both
words. ?The Chimney sweepers cry? is basically an exposure to the child labor
prevalent during this era. Once again he uses a child to symbolize an innocent victim
terrorized by higher authority. Also, these cries are accusations against the Church.
Blake uses the phrase ?blackening Church? to expose the Church?s function as a
tyrant rather than a source of enlightenment (Lambert Jr., 1995) This line illustrates
the Church both blackened by soot and the exploited people who are forced to clean
it. At this point it is clear to the reader that Blake?s representation of the church is
ironically evil. It forces oppression on the people of the society. He

However, other definitions claim that a miracle is simply a wonderful or amazing

Jesus is cleansing him from this mental illness, and this is considered a healing
miracle. Christians may translate that sort of miracle to today s society as to when
someone, who is not Christian and is sinful, finds god and is forgiven of their past
sins. They would say it is a miracle for that person to be healed spiritually.
A key point on this topic is a big part of our lives today in the modern society:
science. Of course, something that was seen as a healing miracle in the time when
the bible was written is accepted as normal procedure now as scientists now know
so much about health and the body. We know leprosy not to be contagious
whereas in the bible lepers were excluded and seen as outcasts. People with mental
illnesses were thought were thought to be possessed by the devil, however we now
recognise these people to suffer illnesses such as schizophrenia. For example, a
woman in the bible had a haemorrhage that Jesus cured and this was considered a
healing miracle. Today, for someone with a haemorrhage, treatment would be
expected and being cured would not be a shock. So if it was considered miraculous
in Jesus time, is it still considered miraculous today? It is the same situation but
because of medical advances it is no longer seen in that status. If a healing miracle
needs to defy scientific laws then we are

Many people tend to not fathom how religion plays such a powerful role within
our world today. It even played a powerful role in the beginning of the United State
hundreds of years ago when it was founded. Religion intertwined in the social
development in America since the very beginning. We see religion animatedly in
World War II, when many religious leaders risked their own lives to fight in a war
that hurt so many people. In the book The Religious History of America by Edwin

best demonstrate the Peoplehood model, I will select the Hopi Indian Nation and
explain how the four components working in harmony, simultaneously make up them
who they are. The Hopi speak the language of Uto Aztecan. The Hopi use this
language communally as a tribe and are the only people that fully know all the
denotations of their words. They also have their own slang and lingos that... Show

The Hopi have their very own sacred history traditions and beliefs, one being the
Sacred Hopi Tablets. These tablets are explicit to the mythology believed by the Hopi
tribal members and form many of their religious beliefs and customs. The Hopi tribe
now lives on their reservation positioned in North Eastern Arizona. Nevertheless,
around the 1100 s the Hopi had their own sacred lands that expanded from Arizona,
New Mexico, and Southwestern Colorado. The land is what continues to deliver
spirituality, nourishment, and existence for them today. Throughout the calendar
year, the Hopi rejoice in many ceremonies that are specific to their beliefs that make
them a peoplehood. Throughout these ritualistic ceremonies the Hopi, validate what
it means to be part of their rich history and fully demonstrate Peoplehood. All through
45. Remember The Titans Film Techniques Essay
In the movie Remember the Titans by Boaz Yakin the scene I chose was the scene of
the final game. This is important because there is a lot of emotion and courage shown
in this scene. The three aspects I analysed were lighting, tracking and sound I think
that s these three technique were use very welly to show intensity, emotion and
courage.
Lighting was use to show the audience important people. This is shown when Gary
s mum walked in to the stadium the spot light was on here and everyone started to
clap. This was to show emotion and unity everyone black or white was supporting
her. This is a breathe taking scene because there has just been the end of apatite and
the black and white people are starting to believe in the something and support each
other.
Tracking was also used very well in the film. An example of this is when the Titan s
team start dancing out on to the field the camera tracks them out. This scene shows
the team and that black and white does not matter, they are all one big family in
sync and they are ready to play. This also shows that they are all fired up and they
are focused on the game. I think this camera technique was used so that the director
can show the audience that the age of apatite has gone everyone no ... Show more

The first one I felt was shown very well was when the Titans where dancing out on
to the field and the music was building up, the director used this to show that the
team was ready for a fight and that they were here to play. Another sound effect that
was used very well in this scene was when the mother of Gary the captain that is in
hospital came into the stadium everyone started to stand up black or white and start
clapping this showed the audience that everyone was a team and family and that they
all wanted the same thing. Also the cheering from the crowd was used to build up the
intensity of the game and how important it was for the Titans to

48. Economic Causes Of Shay s Rebellion Essay
The economic problems that led to Shay s rebellion began with the signing of the
Treaty of Paris, which ended the revolutionary war and recognized America s
independence. America s independence came with some unforeseen complications,
since America was no longer a British colony they were cut out of many British
markets including the Caribbean. Also many American merchants were in debt to
British creditors and the creditors demanded cash payments with short deadlines and
harsh punishments. This in turn caused American merchants to demand their money
back from businesses who were in debt to them. These businesses then called for
farmers and smaller businesses to pay back their debts. In addition to having to pay
back their mounting debt farmers also had to pay taxes that were being raised by...

The men to whom the state owed money had great influence in legislator because
many of them were either a part of it or had relatives who were. This caused the
legislator to rule in favor of higher taxes to quickly pay back war debts with little
consideration for farmers who were already struggling to pay back personal debt.
Many farmers were forced to sell land, animals and machinery to pay back their
debts which made greatly reduced their profits. Many other farmers were taken to
court for debts they could not pay back and some were thrown in to debtors prisons.
Originally farmers tried to work through the legislator asking for them to lower taxes
and to print more paper money but the legislator met again and again each time
ignoring the farmer s requests. In 1782, Samuel Ely, a preacher gathered farmers
together in Western Massachusetts and targeted the court house he was arrested but
the spark was ignited. Steep inflation and a depression continued to make things
economically hard for farmers and more and more were facing court penalties for
being unable to pay debts. In 1786 a countywide convention was held to organize
their grievances against the Massachusetts

50. Capturing Real Life in Jane Austen s Emma Essay
Capturing Real Life in Emma
Jane Austen deliberately confined herself to the realistic portrayal of a segment of
contemporary English life upper middle class society. The heroine, Emma
Woodhouse, lives on her father s estate at Hartfield which is in effect an adjunct of
the village of Highbury in spite of its separate lawns and shrubberies . Mr. Weston s
estate of Randals is in the parish of Highbury, and Mr. Knightley s Donwell Abbey is
situated in the neighbouring parish, within comfortable walking distance. Here life is
concentrated within itself and separated from London which although only sixteen
miles away was much beyond...daily reach . Significantly, Emma has never visited
London, never been to the seaside, never visited ... Show more content on

Cole s carriage horses returning from exercise, or a stray letter boy on an obstinate
mule, were the liveliest objects she could presume to expect; and when her eyes
fell only on the butcher with his tray, a tiny old woman travelling homewards from
the shop with her full basket, two curs quarrelling over a dirty bone, and a string of
dawdling children round the baker s little bow window eyeing the gingerbread, she
knew she had no reason to complain, and was amused enough; quite enough still to
stand at the door .
In such a narrow society gossip helps to relieve the tedium. This gossip may be
harmless Mr. Frank Churchill s coming to visit his father and stepmother;
speculation about Mr. Elton s fiancee, Miss Augusta Hawkins of Bristol; excited
accounts (becoming more and more exaggerated with each telling) of Harriet s
gallant rescue from the gypsies by Frank Churchill. However, gossip can also be
malicious, as we shall see when Emma confides in Frank Churchill her unfounded
suspicion that Jane Fairfax s pianoforte is a gift from a secret admirer, Mr. Dixon,
husband of Jane s dearest friend Miss Campbell.
Highbury society can also be unbearably claustrophobic. This is symbolically
highlighted when Emma is trapped alone with Mr. Elton in her carriage on the
journey home from the Christmas Eve dinner party at Randals. After she has rejected
the vicar s proposal of marriage out of hand, they have no choice but to continue the
51. Ayman Al Zawahiri Massacre
A high ranking terrorist putting in motion an attack in New York City on the
anniversary of 9/11 would raise some alarms and the emotions of the American
people. Therefore, Ayman al Zawahiri proposed this very attack by ordering three
individuals to prepare car bombs and enter the United States through Canada to set
the bombs off on the anniversary of 9/11 in New York City.
Therefore, the terrorists were prepared and were making their way through Canada
towards the United States border where Canadian authorities apprehended them. The
Canadian authorities questioned the individuals, but it was unclear if they were the
terrorists directed by Ayman al Zawahiri.
Seemingly, the intelligence alone would have increased the risk rating of the United
States until it could be confirmed or denied as credible information. Therefore, the
risk assessment would have been raised from medium to high. The perceived
perception of a threat is enough to warrant safeguards to put in place to respond to
the imminent danger. However, as the probability of the threat increases, so does the
effort to prevent it and limit its impact on property and people (Maras, 2013). ... Show

Therefore, a new event just being mentioned through the media rises the perception
again. People start reliving the past and start worrying about the future of when,
where and how. Human perception is how we see things playing out, and we all
handle them differently. However, people tend to play off the knowledge of the
masses and can be misleading. Seemingly, one s perception of an impending terrorist
attack can cause disruptions in everyone s daily life in regards to the economy, public
transport and things that are usually in their
