This document discusses Australian English dialects and accents. It divides Australian English into three varieties: broad, general and cultivated. Broad Australian English is perceived as stereotypically Australian and uses non-standard grammar. General Australian English is exemplified by Victorians pronouncing words like "chant" as "charnt". Cultivated Australian English sounds more formal and enunciates all sounds clearly. Students are asked to identify where people they know would fall on the continuum and give examples of their pronunciation.
