IF YOU WERE GIVEN A BLANK CANVAS WHAT
WOULD YOU PAINT ?
HAVE A GO……

  • Your theme is .. “How you feel about Media Studies”
What types of decisions did the artists
make when creating these works of art
MEDIA LANGUAGE

Can you use media language in your work
when analysing moving image Media Texts
FILMS ARE JUST THE SAME AS STILL IMAGES
• Think about the types of things that you can change when making a film

• Look at these techniques and try and write them down.
EDITING EXAMPLE
• How does the pacing of this scene change the impression for the viewer?

• What about this one from the film Goodfellas ?
LONGER FILM ANALYSIS
• We are going to watch a clip from a movie and you have to try and create a paragrpah of
analysis explaining how the director has used certain techniques to create an effect from
    the viewer.

• We are going to watch it and make notes but first we need to know what kinds of things
    we can talk about ….
WHEN ANALYSING MOVING IMAGE I CAN
MENTION…..
• Camera Shots.. Editing

-Sound Mise – en - scene
PRACTICE - EXAMPLE
• Also: Recap to last week

• The clips are from two different styles of movie: 1 is a teen drama

• What kinds of conventions can you spot
THIS ONE IS THE ONE WE WILL ANALYSE
• It’s an action film so lets think quickly about the conventions but remember we are
analysing the different film making techniques
• Draw a table like this:

        Technique Effect
