An Organizational Profile Of The United States Army
Running head: ORG PROFILE 1 2 2 ORG PROFILE An Organizational Profile of the United States
Army: Katherine Bingley University of Louisville Dr. Bradley Carpenter ELFH 490 May 27, 2015
An Organizational Profile of the United States Army I have chosen to write about the United States
Army for my Organizational profile. Not only was it extremely interesting to look at the
organization that I love and how it functions, but it is the one business that I feel most comfortable
with. The Army employs approximately 530,000 Active Duty Soldiers and 330,000 civilians,
making it one of the largest, most powerful corporations in the world. Founded in 1775, it is one of
the oldest businesses in the United States and is rich with history, symbolism, and structure (citation,
year). The Army is so interesting to me because it has so many different lines of effort. Of course
you have to train Soldiers to fight and win, but you also have to take care of the families, run a town,
manage factories and hospitals, and provide education for the children. What other organization
does this on such a large level? Even the other branches of the Armed Forces can?t compare to what
the Army accomplishes on a daily basis. Structural Features Bolman and Deal (1997) stated that
structural frames are goal oriented. The Army?s goal is simple, clear, concise and achievable; to win
America?s wars. Every function that goes on within our Organization supports this goal in some
shape or fashion.

The Threat Of The United States Army
While the United States Army is dedicated to promoting peace, stability and security throughout the
world, there are challenges that are necessary to address. Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, the
rising of non state actors in the Middle East, and future strategic campaigns all present issues that
face the Army. Coupled with budget sequestration, these challenges are amplified.
Russia is the largest threat facing the United States [25]. The threat from Russia specifically comes
from not only their supply of nuclear weapons and their advanced military, but their "intent" behind
the use of their military power. The state's recent aggression against surrounding countries shows the
attempt to reclaim international influence [25]. Their "behavior"' in "Crimea, Georgia, and Ukraine,"
has prompted the global community to rethink security in Europe. [25] Russian nationalism, and a
desire to recoup their prestige from the cold war is an invitation for confrontation [25].
In Asia, North Korea continues to test nuclear weapons, and the oppressive regime is threatening to
the security in the continent, and especially to our allies in South Korea. Currently there are "more
than a million service members on either side of the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula"
[25]. Therefore "vigilance and readiness" are a top priority in the region. China's recent actions in
their modernization and buildup of the county's military show China's assertion of their growing
economic power. China,

The United States Army Is A Profession Of Arms
Human Resources is not the first thought when thinking of the United States Army. Generally, most
individuals might think of War, Infantry, Rangers, or even Marines. These are not unreasonable
ideas, considering that the Army is a Profession of Arms, and it exists to defend the United States by
means of combat. Combat–specific roles are foundational to the Army, but they do not transport,
feed, or pay themselves. They require tremendous support to be successful. The Army seeks to
"conduct...full spectrum operations inclusive of offense, defense, and stability or civil support
operations" (Army White, p. 4). Consequently, the Army is comprised of experts in numerous fields.
The HR Sergeant is one of these experts. As a profession, the Army

The Army Of The United States
The movement from a drafted to an all–volunteer force has proven to provide the Army of the
United States with some of its most impressive Soldiers. Whether Soldiers desire to join the military
for the pay, job security or answering the call to serve their country, these desires have become
increasingly obsolete in today's Army because of budget cuts. The Army will begin to lose quality
Soldiers due to continued pay cuts to military pay, basic allowance for housing and changes to
retirement plans. On March 2014, presented to Congress was a 495.6 billion dollar budget for the
Department of Defense (DOD). This newly presented budget is a 400 million dollar cut from the
previous fiscal year (FY) (October 1, 2014). This budget will create a smaller; yet, agile force that
can still rapidly support the United States of America at any time. The budget will stand for
continued advancements in protection and applied research to help ensure future competitive
advantages for the United States of America. With that said, where would the 400 million dollar
DOD budget cuts be made? According to the United States Department of Defense Budget Request
of Fiscal Year 2015 (DOD–BR15) (2014), in order to continue to build a readily available force to
support the country's needs, budget cuts are needed and will be made at the expense of the Soldiers.
Military Soldiers and families are set to suffer additional pay decreases due to the ongoing budget
cuts from Capital Hill. First

The Impact Of First Apache Helicopter On The United States...
THE LIFING APPLIED BY THE UNITED STATES The first Apache helicopter was delivered to
the United States Army in 1997 by Boeing. The United States Army now has more than 800 Apache
aircraft in service. It has also exported over 1000 Apache helicopters worldwide to countries such
as, the Netherlands, Singapore and Israel to name a few. In this time, the US Apache has had no
recorded CSD incidents from over 4 million recorded flight operating hours. There has been no un–
commanded initiation of the CSD system either in flight or on the ground (discounting human error
causes) in over 20 years of operation. The current lifing applied by the US can be seen in Appendix
E, which shows the comparisons for all 19 CSD components between the UK and the ... Show more

To give a full representation of how other platforms utilise a crew escape system, 4 rotary wing
aircraft were chosen. These were the UH–60 Black Hawk, the CH–47 Chinook, the AH–1 Cobra
and the AW–159 Wildcat. For simplicity and to give a better comparison for the Apache AH Mk1,
only the cockpit crew escape systems have been analysed, not the cabin escape system. UH–60
BLACK HAWK The UH–60 Black Hawk helicopter is manufactured by Sikorsky and has been in
operation since 1978. It is primarily used as a troop personnel carrier and provides a logistical
capability. The UH–60 Black Hawk has a purely manual operation of door release. It has emergency
release handles located on the inside of each of the cockpit doors. If these handles are subsequently
pulled with approximately 40–45 lbs. of force, the doors can be separated from the locating points.
The door will then be separated from the aircraft, allowing the aircrew to egress the aircraft. CH–47
CHINOOK The CH–47 Chinook is manufactured by Boeing, and has been exported to both military
and private operators worldwide. It is primarily used as a troop and logistics transporter, as well as
providing essential medical evacuation on operations. The CH–47 Chinook emergency release
handles are located above both cockpit doors. They can be operated by either pulling or pushing the
handles with approximately 35–40 Ibs of force. Once the handles are operated the doors will simply
fall out. The CH–47 Chinook

The Influence Of Digital Media On The United States Army
The Influence of Digital Media on the United States Army Digital media has integrated itself into
nearly every facet of the modern United States Army. For many years, the Army has increased its
dependency on the use of digital media in day to day operations, training, communications, public
relations, and administrative tasks. Some people claim that we are too dependent on these
technologies for our own good. However, it has helped keep us the most powerful fighting force on
the face of the planet. This case study will look at five functional areas that digital media has
improved the Army: Administration, Training, Communication, Public Relations, and Warfighting
Capabilities. In each of these functional areas, we will explore how ... Show more content on

This meant the signed copy then had to be scanned back into the computer and then emailed or
uploaded into a database. Of course, the original paper copy still existed, so the Army had not met
the goal of being paperless yet. Finally, around 2012 the Army acquired the technology that included
the digital signature that would allow them to truly go paperless. The technology had existed for five
years, but the Army's slow procurement and distribution process was one of the many lessons
learned: in the digital age, the Army had to move faster and be more flexible to change. This
paperless platform would allow the Army to overhaul all administrative systems. The Publication
Directorate stopped printing paper copies of manuals and regulations, and posted the digital copies
to an online library, where changes could easily be updated. Evaluations could be completed online,
signed online, and submitted online. Leave forms and award recommendations could go from one
user to approver with the click of a button across the world if needed. And promotion boards no
longer needed to flip through endless reams of paper to select candidates–just click through digital
copies of a file for a potential promotion candidate. The Army is positioning itself for the future by
reducing the number of people it needs to do the administrative work of the past and train the future
administrators in computer applications for the future. A company 20 years ago traditionally had two

United States Army Career Analysis
The United States Army is known as the senior and largest branch of the Armed Forces. It performs
land–based operations along with assisting other branches of the service. Our modern army is
descended from the Continental Army, which was formed on June 14, 1775 in order to fight in the
Revolutionary War before the United States was an established country. Later, on June 3, 1784, the
Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army to replace the dismantled Continental
Army. There are differences of opinions as to when the official birthday of the Army is. Some
consider 1784 as the start of our Army, while others say June 14, 1775 is the official birthday of the
United States Army, ("The United States Army," 2015). I agree with 1775 ... Show more content on

There are many AIT schools; and at the schools you will get a hands–on education and field
instruction to enhance your expertise in the chosen field. I will do AIT at the Engineering School,
because of my chosen job, Combat Engineer, also called Sappers. Sappers are very important to the
success of any Army mission. During the Advanced Individualized Training, as a Sapper, I will learn
a wide variety of engineering skills that may include: bridge building, structural maintenance, and
electrical repair. There are different tasks generally for Combat Engineers that go with the skills
taught including: building and constructing bridges, minefield clearance and detonation, and any
other task requiring the specialized skills, (www.wood.army.mil/sapper). Sappers sometimes work
with other branches to clear a route of obstacles and rivers for a convoy to pass or ground troops to
pass. Detecting the mines will be done visually as well as with detectors. Sometimes they have to fix
floating bridges, so learning to swim can be important. Also, they construct fighting, obstacle, and
defensive positions during special missions. Combat Engineers primarily supervise and serve or
assist as a member of a team when tackling rough terrain in combat situations. The expertise
provides mobility, counter–mobility, survivability, and general engineering duties. To do all the
duties I previously mentioned, you must first take the Armed Services Vocational Battery and get at
least an 87. I made a 99.6, which says I am very adaptable. This test will help you understand your
strengths and identify if Combat Engineering is your right fit. Engineers require additional 14 weeks
of One Station Unit Training, (www.wood.army.mil/sapper). Some of this classroom time is indoors,
while the rest is in the field on the job training. Training will involve

I was in 3rd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army Special Operations Command
(U.S.A.S.O.C.). Ranger Battalion is the United States Army's premier direct–action raid force.
Being in Ranger Battalion is unlike anything I had ever previously known, this tight–knit
brotherhood of modern–day Spartan warriors has bonds that even death cannot break. I deployed in
a classified location in Afghanistan to capture or kill wanted terrorists of our nation. My platoon and
I stepped off the plane and immediately got slapped in the face by the smell of burning jet fuel
mixed with human waste. The weirdest part was looking around at what the terrain was like, it
reminded me exactly of Arizona. Everyone in my platoon grabbed all our equipment ... Show more

precisely into the village, where the gunfire came from to allow us the freedom to maneuver. The air
crewmen gave us the 30–seconds–till–landing command, and we touched down with ferocity. We
prepared ourselves. They lowered the ramp and we took off sprinting towards the objective like
Rangers always do. Making sure I stayed in the formation, adjacent to my squad leader. We sprinted
to the target compound at an ungodly pace. We ran into the wall, which allowed us to stop all our
forward momentum on a dime. While simultaneously stacking up on the outer wall. I ran up ahead
of the stack and placed the wall charge explosive that I had built. I backed away seven feet which
was the minimum safe distance for my charge, and boom! My explosive charge created a perfect
door–sized entry hole in the wall. Then I took out my flash–bang grenade, pulled the pin, and threw
it through the entry hole which temporarily stuns enemies with an extremely bright flash and loud
noise. Since I was the one closest to the entry I went in first. As I took one step into the breach, I had
three other rifle barrels over top of my shoulder, covering my every move as all four of us breached
and cleared the compound. I button–hooked left and proceeded to clear my corner first, then turning
up and scanning the rest of the compound for enemy combatants. I found a large cache of

Ethical And Productive Behavior Within The United States Army
Introduction We will be discussing what best motivates ethical and productive behavior within the
United States Army. We will discuss how ethical and productive behavior is communicated from the
top to the lower enlisted Soldiers. We will also discuss reward and discipline and how affects ethical
behavior with the Troops. Last, we will distinguish if different people may require different
motivation factors to encourage ethical and productive behavior and how it is possible to distinguish
who this is applied it. Motivation is and always has been a key factor and is simultaneously instilled
in the U.S. Army culture. We as Soldiers are consistently kept to a high standard by the way we act,
carry ourselves, and represent the United States Army. The Department of Defense is consistently
disseminating multiple types of training such as Annual Ethics Training. These standards are also
communicated via the chain of command from the top Battalion Commander/Sergeant Major,
Commander/1st Sergeant, Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leaders, Team Leaders, to the
soldiers. This chain of command ensure soldiers are trained and enforce such training such as the
annual ethics training. Annual Ethics Training has 14 ethical principles. Such ethical principles
would include but not limited to "Public service is public trust, requiring to play the laws and ethical
principles above personal gain", "Soldiers should not accept gifts from others that may expect

Soldiers At The United States Army
Soldiers' Preparation in the U.S. Army Similarly, United States Army has extreme concern with the
specific preparation of Soldiers. Therefore, it has developed a program called Physical Readiness
Training (PRT). The program's goal is to train Soldiers to be ready to work in hard duties and sustain
activity in assignments or in combat roles (FM 7–22, 2012). The PRT has a high concern with
Soldiers health, presenting preparation, recovery, strength and mobility, posture and body mechanics
activities. The PRT has three phases to develop in Soldiers the correct physical condition: the
conditioning phase, the sustaining phase, and the reconditioning phase. First, the initial conditioning
phase is responsible for the practice part in order to develop the movement skills the correct way
and prepare Soldiers for the next phase. The second phase is the sustaining phase. This focus phase
is to achieve in Soldiers a higher level of physical readiness required in specific tasks and maintain
the level achieved. The last phase is the reconditioning phase. During this phase, the intention is to
restore the previous physical fitness levels of Soldiers (FM 7–22, 2012). During PRT phases, there is
concern in following the principles of the PRT, such as precision, progression, and integration, in
order to provide all advantages of the program. Furthermore, the PRT tries to develop the endurance,
the strength, and the mobility, considered fundamental components to the success of the

Managing Diversity in the United States Army Essay
The United States Army consists of soldiers from many diverse cultures. Citizenship is not a
requirement to join the Army, so people enlist from across the United States as well as from many
countries around the world. The Army has its own unique culture that is a conglomeration of the
many cultures that make up its population. Each new soldier is expected to adapt to this new culture
and integrate as a member of a larger team. Helping new soldiers make this adaptation as quickly as
possible and with few difficulties is a challenge for the leaders of new soldiers throughout the Army.
The primary challenge for leaders in the Army is taking a group of individuals and molding them
into a team. The framework that is employed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10). The Army does little to understand the values or cultures of new recruits as the authors suggest.
Instead, leaders try to impose the Army's own values onto new soldiers. One of the first
requirements in basic training is to memorize the Army's seven values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless
service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values are reinforced in training throughout the
Army and are meant to supplant whatever values were already present. Haircuts and clothing
become uniform in an attempt to strip away a soldier's individuality. Communication with families
is very limited during initial training. It becomes harder for anyone to identify with his or her own
culture as time passes. As cruel as this might sound, it is a necessary step in developing soldiers that
place the mission first. During war, it is crucial that soldiers react to orders without thinking.
Cultural biases can interfere with this. Many cultures place a lot of importance on respecting elders.
People are expected to defer to someone who is older. This presents a problem in the Army when a
leader has soldiers who are older than him. The leader's orders must be obeyed without hesitation.
By establishing a new values system, the problem of varying cultures is minimized. Years ago it was
said that "if the Army wanted you to have a

The War Of 1812 And The United States Army Essay
The Army began its linage on June 14, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress created the
Continental Army in order to combine the 13 American colonies and fight the British forces (). From
then on out the United States Army has seen multiple wars from the War of 1812 to present wars
today, and will continue to be one the many forces to protect the USA. Now over the years, the
United States Army has had to shift the way it conducts its soldiers to fight in the wars and how to
be proficient in battle; even with the new warfare tactics that our enemies are developing daily. Like
any other unified team, how does the United States Army gain leverage against our enemies who
look to seize the free world? Well like many teams they have offensive operations, which are to seek
opportunities to gain leverage against their foes or even gain a win in the end and then they have
defensive operations. Defensive operations are the opposite of offensive operations where instead of
trying to take advantage of the enemy the Army's forces are trying to take a stance and push the
enemy back. Thus allowing a chance to defend the territory where the soldiers stand and hopefully
allow the soldiers to regain their forces. So like many other military forces we have used these
tactics for many of years to defend our great nation, but of course over the years are tactics have had
to change in order to adapt to different wars. So in this paper you will learn the most current tactics
that our Army

Women Of The United States Army
The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, and since this day women have helped
nurture this great branch into what is known today as the largest and oldest United States Military
service. ("Women") The US Army is consisted of about 452,064 enlisted soldiers and 87,610
officers. This total of 539,675 makes up 37.8% of all of the military branches. ("Demographics") As
time has carried on more and more women are looking to serve the country in the Army. While
women have many skills and abilities to offer, there is still a major issue that needs to be addressed.
Double standards for women in the Army has created a disservice to not only the females but the
entire Army. In order to have a more efficient armed force, standards for men and women should be
equivalent. The military has always been a predominantly male environment. However, women
have been active participants since the first major war, the American Revolution. Historically,
women have served as nurses in many wars including Vietnam and both World Wars. As time
progressed, females started to expand into different military occupation specialties. In the middle of
the 1900s the first women pilots created the WASP. This stood for Women Air Force Service Pilots
and their duty was to fly and deliver the planes from the factors to the military bases. During this
same time fields like factory worker, national intelligence and security started to fill with female
employment. Now women make up 15.7 percent of the

Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States...
Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn
the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier's Creed starting on their first day. Even with this
strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas
that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful
implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault
Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them.
Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the
biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information
and statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United
States Army is pencil whipping 350–1 training.
At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non–
commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She
then explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet.
I was appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the
integrity that I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there
was never enough time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete.

Specifically, training is foundational to everything in the Army and helps to shape a young teenage
boy or girl into a tank mechanic, administrative specialist, infantry officer, or any number of military

this is true in the special staff branches such as the Judge Advocate Generals corps, Medical corps,
and Chaplains corps. Army Chaplains in particular are required to obtain at least seventy–two
seminary hours and a Master's degree in order to become a commissioned military officer. During
their seminary time, future chaplains are trained in sermon preparations, church administration, and
administering the ordinances of their faith group. However, they are rarely trained in addressing one
of the most critical topics currently facing today's military personnel. Specifically, this would be
training in counseling troops who are experiencing suicidal ideations. Another possible place for
members of the Army chaplain corps to receive training in addressing a potential suicidal person
would be during their initial military instruction time at the United States Army Chaplain Center and

The American Of The United States Army
As for the US Army, they had been given orders by which they had to abide which lacked defined
rules of engagement. This meant that they had to complete the mission, and their superiors did not
necessarily care if the natives were pleased or harmed with the outcomes. As far as they were
concerned, there was land that had not been claimed legally and they wanted it. This was a huge
change for the natives from when they had met Lewis and Clark on their journey exploring the
Louisiana Territory decades earlier because both parties involved were amicable and cooperative.
Even later when more white settlers came west and moved into lands the Indians once occupied,
they voluntarily moved onto reservations without major issues. This was accomplished fluidly
because the natives, unlike the white settlers, did not consider land to be "owned" by any person or
group; land was theirs to do with what they would, which was to survive and live–rivers for water,
animals for food, and other natural resources to create their homes, clothes, and instruments. The
Battle of Big Hole was a demonstration of violence of action, and how rules of engagement have
come to be created; the natives would have easily sat down and discussed the matters encircling the
massive amounts of land available to them, but the settlers were misinformed and the government
had a defense complex of doing what needed to be done for their side, and not necessarily thinking
about alternative options to going in to battle

Transformation Of The United States Army Essay
Transformation: Army Joining the United States Army was the most profound decision of my
lifetime. Experiencing life, the world, and combat through the mind and eyes of a soldier has
influenced me in ways that I had never conceived. These transformations, before, during, and after
my military service have ultimately shaped me into the man I am today. I do believe that if I had
chosen not to join the Army, today I would be a totally different person with completely different
views and opinions. Joining the United States Fighting forces is a decision that no one should take
lightly. Before I made the choice to join the army, it was the summer of 1998, I was a short 5 foot 7–
inch–tall 17–year–old and weighed about 140 lbs. soaking wet, which was typical of a poor country
raised boy. "Can't you do anything right"? I remember the old "stucco" guy yelling at me, as I
struggled to lift the 80lbs bag of concrete mixture over my head to throw it into the fast spinning
mixer. I was a young, immature, puny kid who thought he was invincible. Common practice in
young men those days was to play dumb and not show others your intellectual capacity because
"real" men had to be strong, fit, hardworking, and stupid. Just to fit in, I played the part well.
However, inside I dreamt of a career in medicine. I loved to read, write, and play the piano. Life in
the Galeote house for the oldest of 4 siblings wasn't exactly an exuberant place to grow up. In hopes
of gaining my father's acceptance

According to the Army, Loyalty is to bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. constitution, the
Army, and other Soldiers. Loyal means to be devoted, faithful, and trustworthy. Therefore, no matter
what situation you find yourself in at wartime or peacetime you have to be faithful, trustworthy, and
devoted to the nation, the people and its customs and traditions. For instance, if I were going
through a financial problem and a foreigner came up to me and offered to pay me lump sum of
money to give them information that are considered classified. Instead of me accepting the easy way
out to get out of debt I would report him to the authority and my chain of command to prevent

It's the same as Unit tasks or METL is every Soldiers duty to accomplish. Doing your duty as a
Soldier means more than just accomplishing a goal; it is a reflection of yourself, your unit, the U.S.

The emplacement of non commissioned officers makes work run smoothly and efficiently and this is
why United States soldiers are known as the best in the world. Non commissioned officers changing
to the trends of battle, is the reason why the united states army continues to push above and
improves above any military force in the world. The definition of disrespect is discourtesy, lack of
respect, or rudeness and as every soldier should know, one must always show respect to a non
commissioned officer. In the United States Army, there are standards and regulations soldiers must

The United States Army Quartermaster Corps
The United States Army Quartermaster Corps is the oldest Logistics branch of the United States
dating back to 1775. The other Logistics branches being the Transportation Corps, and Ordinance
Corps. In 1775 the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution providing a Quartermaster
General of the grand army and a deputy under him. At this time and until 1912 this organization was
referred to as the Quartermaster Departments. In 1912 Congress consolidated Subsistence, Pay, and
Quartermaster departments to create the Quartermaster corps. Quartermaster units and soldiers have
served in every US Military operation from the Revolutionary War to current operations in the
Middle East. The role of the Quartermaster Corps is to provide logistical support to the ground
forces. They are in charge of general supply, Mortuary Affairs, food service, petroleum and water,
aerial delivery, shower, laundry and material distribution and management. Quartermasters are a
huge part of the success of the army and always have been. They are tasked with providing all of
these essentials to the combat lines and without this support, the combat arms would not be able to
strive on. The quartermaster soldier may not be the one out there fighting and defeating the enemy,
but his role is essential to aiding and destroying the enemy. The war is won or lost before the
fighting even starts, by the Quartermaster.
Near the beginning of its creation, the Quartermaster department was also in charge of

Discipline: United States Army and Soldier
The Importance Of Being disciplined/keeping an appearance In The U.S. Army
The following essay is a compilation of my personal experiences, definitions, and examples of how
discipline is important to surviving in today's U.S. Army. Discipline is increased when one
constantly adheres to the standards set by his superiors and maintains not only his bering, but
appearance as well. Discipline is: acting in accordance with the rules put in place and behaving in
accordance to the rules of conduct as well as maintaing the standard set by superiors (i.e. shaving
everyday). Being disciplined in the US Army has got to be of the utmost importance in my opinion.
Throughout the past few months I have been dealing with many problems physically and ... Show

Every soldier is responsible for performing his duty to the very best of his ability and for trying to
improve their performance, including personal conduct and appearance. Every soldier is responsible
for treating other people with dignity and respect. Basically in the U.S. Army soldiers are expected
to fulfill their duties with discipline since both that and duty go hand in hand with each other. You
cannot perform your duties in a military manner if you are not disciplined and a soldier cannot show
it without adhering to the standard even if it is keeping up with the appropriate military appearance
(AR 670–1). It takes discipline to be responsible, although it doesn't just come from having
discipline. Generally, all of the seven army values come together to build a disciplined soldier. You
need loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. It all comes down
to being at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, clean shaven, and doing as you are
told. Basic soldiering skills are what make reliable assets to the military out of regular soldiers. It's a
mistake I will try not to do again, even if it is something gets out of my hands I will try to control
my actions and the way I organize and present myself in order to be a more disciplined, responsible,
reliable and outstanding soldier. It is my personal effort to make this happen, it is my

The United States Army Aviation Operations
Although Army Aviation has endured a multitude of challenging moments throughout history, none
have compared to those faced in the land that has historically dared and tried many great nations
such as the Macedonian Army around 330 B.C. and the Russian Army in the 1970's and 1980's.
Because of this, this paper will be an informative look at the challenges the United States Army
Aviation Operations faced during Operation Enduring freedom in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014.
Included in the research, I will discuss the unforgiving terrain, such as a high mountain environment
Aviators operated in, the extreme temperatures, degraded visual cues, the human errors aspect, as
well the enemy situation, all which tested them all.
Aviation Operations in Operation Enduring Freedom A Sense of Reality To illustrate my point,
imagine your mission is to conduct a night air assault (AA) into a rocky mountain top landing zone

the HLZ, your aircraft is loaded to its maximum capacity; with a crew of four plus 12 fully loaded
combat troops. Furthermore, the moon illumination is steadily decreasing, and by H–hour the
backdrop has crossed into a dark sea of incomprehensible pictures. At this point, you have just check

Regulations For The Army Of The United States
Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States "The Blue Book" Barron
Friedrich Wilhelm Steuben wrote the regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the
United States in the winter of 1778. The Continental Army spent that winter at Valley Forge under
the command of General George Washington. The army was a group of raw untrained farmers and
to this point in the war had perfected only one military maneuver, the retreat. The true history of the
Barron's military experience is in question. For the beleaguered Continental Army the Barron and
what became to be known as the U.S. Army's blue book of drill and ceremony could not have come
at a more crucial time for General Washington and his army. The overall idea of the Barron's
regulations for the army was to bring standardization of how the army performed every aspect of
their daily life. The idea of standardization to any army is paramount to its success. The Continental
Army at this point had very little if any among its ranks. It is very important for an army to march
the same, shot the same, dress the same and to become a group that acts as one. Doing all these
exercises together not only creates a cohesive unit but also a feeling of Esprit De Corps a feeling of
connection from one soldier to another it binds them to one another. An army with a high Esprit De
Corps will fight with more intensity and with a great deal of

The Drive to Join As a young man I have always had the ambition to serve my country. Watching

I spent my time at Louisburg College running cross country and walked out of there with a
Associates Degree in Business Administration. After graduating, I knew that student loans were
going to be a toll and I also wanted to attend another university to gather a bachelor's degree. I
wanted to please my father and myself for the dream I always had could help me pay for college.
Presenting my father with a plan was the goal in accomplishing my dream and I knew he did not
want his son to be in debt with student loans. Gathering the information was the start so I contacted
an army recruiter to see how I was going to pay for college. He presented me with a student loan
repayment program and also an incentive how I could pay for my bachelors and possibly masters.
After he gave me the plan I presented it to my father. Again he was not for it. He told me he could
let his son be buried in a pine box for trying to defend this nation. My father was adamant but what
was the deciding factor was me letting him know I couldn't continue my education and I was going
to be in debt. He then realized and told me, "son you are a man for putting your body on the line to
provide for yourself and get an education." I knew I had a winner then. Even though I did not need
his permission I wanted his condolences. I then enlisted in the United States Army as a young man
at the age of 20 with a plan for my life. I pleased my father and also accomplished a dream that

The United States Army Signal Corps
The storied history of the United States Army Signal Corps is lined with technological achievement
and advancement. Evidence of the technological advancement and achievement is seen in the Signal
Corps development of the Airplane, the meteorological service and more recently the massive
improvement in net centric communication, which has led to greater command and control for
leaders in the field. It is now time for the Signal Corps to tackle the next big project, and that project
is robotics, a field that can change the way the Army fights and wins wars.
Robotics is a rather large field with limitless capabilities, but there is one place in particular that
robotics can have the highest impact, and that is security. Securing our military bases , be it forward
operating bases, outposts, or even our garrison areas have become a major issue over the last decade
and countless lives have been lost in doing so but with the use of robotics we can make it safer.
Using robotics in base security will allow the United States Army to make massive changes in force
employment and the Signal Corps already has the tools necessary to make this happen with a little
help from the outside world.
One of the key concepts in changing force employment is the creation of a more flexible force
capable of responding to complex situations while maintaining security and working to achieve the
Army's goals of seizing, retain and exploit . One example of such a robot is the Mobile Detection

The United States army started in 1775 with only a group of volunteer fighters who opposed against
the rule and the oppression of the British. (Hogan 2005) The U.S army is still an all–volunteer

of the U.S army it has built on tradition and honor for its country and willing to defend the

today's army is a very diverse group.
Colonialism played a part in shaping and forming the Army community. The tension between

wanted to be independent and grow as a nation. Congress decided to declare independence from the
British and form the Continental Army. "Previously, each colony had relied upon the militia, made

consisted of soldiers from all 13 colonies." (Hogan 2005) Like today's army the army is a diverse
group of people who were young, old, and came from different backgrounds. When they joined the
army they gave up to their way of life to fight what they thought was right. The army was not very

Military Professionals: The United States Army As A...
Military Professionals In a world of doctors, lawyer, scientists, and corporate executives how can
the U.S. Army be regarded as a profession? The answer to the question might lie within the concept
of the basic branches of the Army, and the specialized skills and equipment that set them apart from
one another. This question might also be answered by examining the concept of putting untrained,
well–armed, militia through a warfighter exercise, and comparing the results versus some so called
Army professionals. One can look back in history, and examine the foundation and formation of the
United States Army to garner a better understanding of it as a profession. Though these concepts are

branches share skills, however many more are specialized, and require months, even years of

that an Infantry Officer would not be expected to pick up a scalpel, and remove the shrapnel from
the wound of an injured Soldier, without doing more damage than good. However, they cannot
expect the doctors or lawyers among them to employ an Infantry Company on the battlefield in
Afghanistan. Nor would they expect an Armor Officer to employ an Apache helicopter on the battle

United States Army and Respect
Respect
RESPECT HAS BEEN a distinctive US Army value since 1778 when Frederick William
Baron von Steuben noted that a US officer.s first objective should be to treat his men .with every
possible kindness and humanity..1 So it was not surprising when the US Army identified respect as
oneof its seven values. In 1998 respect language gave the Army a powerful way to organize ongoing
discussions about discrimination and harassment.2 The previous year.s headlines had been filled
with allegations of appalling violations of respect. The inclusion of respect as a value along with
loyalty, duty, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage sent a strong message that
respect for others should be an integral part of US Army leadership. ... Show more content on

If you want others to give you respect, you must first learn how to give respect yourself. There is a
lot of ways to respect a person or people, there are a lot of definitions to define respect: "To feel or
show definite regard for; esteem. To avoid violation of or interference with: respect the speed limit.
To relate or refer to; concern". relation or reference, esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence
of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal
quality or ability, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something
considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment, the
condition of being esteemed or honored, a formal expression or gesture of greeting, esteem, or
friendship, favor or partiality. Another one is to respect their rules, feelings, their personal space or
bubble. There are many other forms of respect. Respect is created in many ways. It is created when
people treat others as they want to be treated. So the growth of something, such as respect, often
nourishes itself from its own process and dynamics. Being the first to accord respect, and with time,
it will develop amongst all the conflicting parties. Avoid insulting people or how they feel about

a. Cognitive: Cognitive greatly contributes to the ability to adapt. Training Soldiers in a more
dynamic aspect will help improve repetition, memory, intellect, aptitude, learning and decision–

unit level training, PME, and talent management.
b. Physical: The Army is implementing an educational health program currently known as the
performance triad. This program is designed to heighten the state of a person's overall wellness.
Personal wellness encompasses physical, emotional, and cognitive wellness. Soldiers will be taught
to possess an internal mindset to optimize their health and improve on becoming a Professional
Soldier Athlete.
c. Social: The Army can be looked at as a social melting pot. To be "socially fit" means leaders must
be capable of communicating with all levels throughout the ranks no matter the cultural and ethical
background. Being socially fit tends to create a more resilient individual who is more likely to with

of these two sides, we are better able to understand why being physically present is essential for
integral members of a team to perform their duties well. The physical responsibilities all serve a
purpose when it comes to being present. This is because not only can not being present affect others,
but by not being present, others can also be harmed. Therefore, understanding why the physical
responsibilities are split for military and civilian personnel is essential.
When you add the Army standards to physical responsibilities, this requires a soldier to maintain an
acceptable fitness level to achieve the minimum requirements of an Army Physical Fitness Test.
Another addition to the physical responsibilities involved in the Army is accountability.
Accountability of yourself, or another soldier is a highly important matter in regards to discipline.
When a soldier goes missing, or is unaccounted for, actions must be taken to find the soldier unless
there is a known reason as to why the soldier is missing.
The civilian physical responsibilities may be

Integrity In The United States Army
WHAT IS RESPECT WITHIN THE MILITARY. Respect to me mean treat people the way they
should be treated. Treat others with dignity and respect while expecting others to do same. Respect
is trusting that all people have done their jobs and fulfill their duty.
Respect is one of the key values in the United States Army. Respect for your subordinates, peers,
seniors and officers are highly regarded. Respect earned respect in the civilian world. But usually in
the military, anyone who has a higher rank than what you are wearing, respect is expected, not that
respect is not expected for you to give if they are of the same rank or a lower rank but because they
have earned the rank and respect is due. No matter how crooked, bent or ... Show more content on

It is the ability to project a commanding presence and confidence, uphold standards, and doing the
hard right over the easy wrong in both good and bad situations both on and off duty. Simply acting
the way Soldiers and leaders are expected to act, presenting a professional persona. Military bearing
comes from pride in oneself, pride of being a Soldier, a leader and in service to the nation. The way
a leader carries them self with the knowledge and understanding that military bearing is continuous
and that his or her actions and military bearing will lead to criticism, both positive and negative.
Understanding that their military bearing will define the way in which other leaders, Soldiers and
the world views them. Accepting that military bearing does not end at the end of the duty day when
the uniform is removed. Often the only contact the civilian population has with a Soldier is during
off duty hours. This is when they will make their judgments and opinions about Soldiers and the
Army in

An Organizational Profile Of The United States Army

  • 1. An Organizational Profile Of The United States Army Running head: ORG PROFILE 1 2 2 ORG PROFILE An Organizational Profile of the United States Army: Katherine Bingley University of Louisville Dr. Bradley Carpenter ELFH 490 May 27, 2015 An Organizational Profile of the United States Army I have chosen to write about the United States Army for my Organizational profile. Not only was it extremely interesting to look at the organization that I love and how it functions, but it is the one business that I feel most comfortable with. The Army employs approximately 530,000 Active Duty Soldiers and 330,000 civilians, making it one of the largest, most powerful corporations in the world. Founded in 1775, it is one of the oldest businesses in the United States and is rich with history, symbolism, and structure (citation, year). The Army is so interesting to me because it has so many different lines of effort. Of course you have to train Soldiers to fight and win, but you also have to take care of the families, run a town, manage factories and hospitals, and provide education for the children. What other organization does this on such a large level? Even the other branches of the Armed Forces can?t compare to what the Army accomplishes on a daily basis. Structural Features Bolman and Deal (1997) stated that structural frames are goal oriented. The Army?s goal is simple, clear, concise and achievable; to win America?s wars. Every function that goes on within our Organization supports this goal in some shape or fashion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Threat Of The United States Army While the United States Army is dedicated to promoting peace, stability and security throughout the world, there are challenges that are necessary to address. Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, the rising of non state actors in the Middle East, and future strategic campaigns all present issues that face the Army. Coupled with budget sequestration, these challenges are amplified. Russia is the largest threat facing the United States [25]. The threat from Russia specifically comes from not only their supply of nuclear weapons and their advanced military, but their "intent" behind the use of their military power. The state's recent aggression against surrounding countries shows the attempt to reclaim international influence [25]. Their "behavior"' in "Crimea, Georgia, and Ukraine," has prompted the global community to rethink security in Europe. [25] Russian nationalism, and a desire to recoup their prestige from the cold war is an invitation for confrontation [25]. In Asia, North Korea continues to test nuclear weapons, and the oppressive regime is threatening to the security in the continent, and especially to our allies in South Korea. Currently there are "more than a million service members on either side of the demilitarized zone on the Korean Peninsula" [25]. Therefore "vigilance and readiness" are a top priority in the region. China's recent actions in their modernization and buildup of the county's military show China's assertion of their growing economic power. China, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The United States Army Is A Profession Of Arms Human Resources is not the first thought when thinking of the United States Army. Generally, most individuals might think of War, Infantry, Rangers, or even Marines. These are not unreasonable ideas, considering that the Army is a Profession of Arms, and it exists to defend the United States by means of combat. Combat–specific roles are foundational to the Army, but they do not transport, feed, or pay themselves. They require tremendous support to be successful. The Army seeks to "conduct...full spectrum operations inclusive of offense, defense, and stability or civil support operations" (Army White, p. 4). Consequently, the Army is comprised of experts in numerous fields. The HR Sergeant is one of these experts. As a profession, the Army ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Army Of The United States The movement from a drafted to an all–volunteer force has proven to provide the Army of the United States with some of its most impressive Soldiers. Whether Soldiers desire to join the military for the pay, job security or answering the call to serve their country, these desires have become increasingly obsolete in today's Army because of budget cuts. The Army will begin to lose quality Soldiers due to continued pay cuts to military pay, basic allowance for housing and changes to retirement plans. On March 2014, presented to Congress was a 495.6 billion dollar budget for the Department of Defense (DOD). This newly presented budget is a 400 million dollar cut from the previous fiscal year (FY) (October 1, 2014). This budget will create a smaller; yet, agile force that can still rapidly support the United States of America at any time. The budget will stand for continued advancements in protection and applied research to help ensure future competitive advantages for the United States of America. With that said, where would the 400 million dollar DOD budget cuts be made? According to the United States Department of Defense Budget Request of Fiscal Year 2015 (DOD–BR15) (2014), in order to continue to build a readily available force to support the country's needs, budget cuts are needed and will be made at the expense of the Soldiers. Military Soldiers and families are set to suffer additional pay decreases due to the ongoing budget cuts from Capital Hill. First ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States Army now has more than 800 Apache aircraft in service. It has also exported over 1000 Apache helicopters worldwide to countries such as, the Netherlands, Singapore and Israel to name a few. In this time, the US Apache has had no recorded CSD incidents from over 4 million recorded flight operating hours. There has been no un– commanded initiation of the CSD system either in flight or on the ground (discounting human error causes) in over 20 years of operation. The current lifing applied by the US can be seen in Appendix E, which shows the comparisons for all 19 CSD components between the UK and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To give a full representation of how other platforms utilise a crew escape system, 4 rotary wing aircraft were chosen. These were the UH–60 Black Hawk, the CH–47 Chinook, the AH–1 Cobra and the AW–159 Wildcat. For simplicity and to give a better comparison for the Apache AH Mk1, only the cockpit crew escape systems have been analysed, not the cabin escape system. UH–60 BLACK HAWK The UH–60 Black Hawk helicopter is manufactured by Sikorsky and has been in operation since 1978. It is primarily used as a troop personnel carrier and provides a logistical capability. The UH–60 Black Hawk has a purely manual operation of door release. It has emergency release handles located on the inside of each of the cockpit doors. If these handles are subsequently pulled with approximately 40–45 lbs. of force, the doors can be separated from the locating points. The door will then be separated from the aircraft, allowing the aircrew to egress the aircraft. CH–47 CHINOOK The CH–47 Chinook is manufactured by Boeing, and has been exported to both military and private operators worldwide. It is primarily used as a troop and logistics transporter, as well as providing essential medical evacuation on operations. The CH–47 Chinook emergency release handles are located above both cockpit doors. They can be operated by either pulling or pushing the handles with approximately 35–40 Ibs of force. Once the handles are operated the doors will simply fall out. The CH–47 Chinook ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Influence Of Digital Media On The United States Army The Influence of Digital Media on the United States Army Digital media has integrated itself into nearly every facet of the modern United States Army. For many years, the Army has increased its dependency on the use of digital media in day to day operations, training, communications, public relations, and administrative tasks. Some people claim that we are too dependent on these technologies for our own good. However, it has helped keep us the most powerful fighting force on the face of the planet. This case study will look at five functional areas that digital media has improved the Army: Administration, Training, Communication, Public Relations, and Warfighting Capabilities. In each of these functional areas, we will explore how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This meant the signed copy then had to be scanned back into the computer and then emailed or uploaded into a database. Of course, the original paper copy still existed, so the Army had not met the goal of being paperless yet. Finally, around 2012 the Army acquired the technology that included the digital signature that would allow them to truly go paperless. The technology had existed for five years, but the Army's slow procurement and distribution process was one of the many lessons learned: in the digital age, the Army had to move faster and be more flexible to change. This paperless platform would allow the Army to overhaul all administrative systems. The Publication Directorate stopped printing paper copies of manuals and regulations, and posted the digital copies to an online library, where changes could easily be updated. Evaluations could be completed online, signed online, and submitted online. Leave forms and award recommendations could go from one user to approver with the click of a button across the world if needed. And promotion boards no longer needed to flip through endless reams of paper to select candidates–just click through digital copies of a file for a potential promotion candidate. The Army is positioning itself for the future by reducing the number of people it needs to do the administrative work of the past and train the future administrators in computer applications for the future. • 25. United States Army Career Analysis The United States Army is known as the senior and largest branch of the Armed Forces. It performs land–based operations along with assisting other branches of the service. Our modern army is descended from the Continental Army, which was formed on June 14, 1775 in order to fight in the Revolutionary War before the United States was an established country. Later, on June 3, 1784, the Congress of the Confederation created the United States Army to replace the dismantled Continental Army. There are differences of opinions as to when the official birthday of the Army is. Some consider 1784 as the start of our Army, while others say June 14, 1775 is the official birthday of the United States Army, ("The United States Army," 2015). I agree with 1775 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many AIT schools; and at the schools you will get a hands–on education and field instruction to enhance your expertise in the chosen field. I will do AIT at the Engineering School, because of my chosen job, Combat Engineer, also called Sappers. Sappers are very important to the success of any Army mission. During the Advanced Individualized Training, as a Sapper, I will learn a wide variety of engineering skills that may include: bridge building, structural maintenance, and electrical repair. There are different tasks generally for Combat Engineers that go with the skills taught including: building and constructing bridges, minefield clearance and detonation, and any other task requiring the specialized skills, (www.wood.army.mil/sapper). Sappers sometimes work with other branches to clear a route of obstacles and rivers for a convoy to pass or ground troops to pass. Detecting the mines will be done visually as well as with detectors. Sometimes they have to fix floating bridges, so learning to swim can be important. Also, they construct fighting, obstacle, and defensive positions during special missions. Combat Engineers primarily supervise and serve or assist as a member of a team when tackling rough terrain in combat situations. The expertise provides mobility, counter–mobility, survivability, and general engineering duties. To do all the duties I previously mentioned, you must first take the Armed Services Vocational Battery and get at least an 87. I made a 99.6, which says I am very adaptable. This test will help you understand your strengths and identify if Combat Engineering is your right fit. Engineers require additional 14 weeks of One Station Unit Training, (www.wood.army.mil/sapper). Ranger Battalion is the United States Army's premier direct–action raid force. Being in Ranger Battalion is unlike anything I had ever previously known, this tight–knit brotherhood of modern–day Spartan warriors has bonds that even death cannot break. I deployed in a classified location in Afghanistan to capture or kill wanted terrorists of our nation. My platoon and I stepped off the plane and immediately got slapped in the face by the smell of burning jet fuel mixed with human waste. The air crewmen gave us the 30–seconds–till–landing command, and we touched down with ferocity. We prepared ourselves. They lowered the ramp and we took off sprinting towards the objective like Rangers always do. Making sure I stayed in the formation, adjacent to my squad leader. We sprinted to the target compound at an ungodly pace. We ran into the wall, which allowed us to stop all our forward momentum on a dime. While simultaneously stacking up on the outer wall. I ran up ahead of the stack and placed the wall charge explosive that I had built. I backed away seven feet which was the minimum safe distance for my charge, and boom! My explosive charge created a perfect door–sized entry hole in the wall. Then I took out my flash–bang grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it through the entry hole which temporarily stuns enemies with an extremely bright flash and loud noise. Since I was the one closest to the entry I went in first. As I took one step into the breach, I had three other rifle barrels over top of my shoulder, covering my every move as all four of us breached and cleared the compound. I button–hooked left and proceeded to clear my corner first, then turning up and scanning the rest of the compound for enemy combatants. I found a large cache of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We will also discuss reward and discipline and how affects ethical behavior with the Troops. Last, we will distinguish if different people may require different motivation factors to encourage ethical and productive behavior and how it is possible to distinguish who this is applied it. Motivation is and always has been a key factor and is simultaneously instilled in the U.S. Army culture. We as Soldiers are consistently kept to a high standard by the way we act, carry ourselves, and represent the United States Army. The Department of Defense is consistently disseminating multiple types of training such as Annual Ethics Training. These standards are also communicated via the chain of command from the top Battalion Commander/Sergeant Major, Commander/1st Sergeant, Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leaders, Team Leaders, to the soldiers. This chain of command ensure soldiers are trained and enforce such training such as the annual ethics training. Annual Ethics Training has 14 ethical principles. • 41. Soldiers At The United States Army Soldiers' Preparation in the U.S. Army Similarly, United States Army has extreme concern with the specific preparation of Soldiers. Therefore, it has developed a program called Physical Readiness Training (PRT). The program's goal is to train Soldiers to be ready to work in hard duties and sustain activity in assignments or in combat roles (FM 7–22, 2012). The PRT has a high concern with Soldiers health, presenting preparation, recovery, strength and mobility, posture and body mechanics activities. The PRT has three phases to develop in Soldiers the correct physical condition: the conditioning phase, the sustaining phase, and the reconditioning phase. First, the initial conditioning phase is responsible for the practice part in order to develop the movement skills the correct way and prepare Soldiers for the next phase. The second phase is the sustaining phase. This focus phase is to achieve in Soldiers a higher level of physical readiness required in specific tasks and maintain the level achieved. The last phase is the reconditioning phase. During this phase, the intention is to restore the previous physical fitness levels of Soldiers (FM 7–22, 2012). During PRT phases, there is concern in following the principles of the PRT, such as precision, progression, and integration, in order to provide all advantages of the program. Furthermore, the PRT tries to develop the endurance, the strength, and the mobility, considered fundamental components to the success of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Citizenship is not a requirement to join the Army, so people enlist from across the United States as well as from many countries around the world. The Army has its own unique culture that is a conglomeration of the many cultures that make up its population. Each new soldier is expected to adapt to this new culture and integrate as a member of a larger team. Helping new soldiers make this adaptation as quickly as possible and with few difficulties is a challenge for the leaders of new soldiers throughout the Army. The primary challenge for leaders in the Army is taking a group of individuals and molding them into a team. The framework that is employed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 10). The Army does little to understand the values or cultures of new recruits as the authors suggest. Instead, leaders try to impose the Army's own values onto new soldiers. One of the first requirements in basic training is to memorize the Army's seven values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values are reinforced in training throughout the Army and are meant to supplant whatever values were already present. Haircuts and clothing become uniform in an attempt to strip away a soldier's individuality. Communication with families is very limited during initial training. It becomes harder for anyone to identify with his or her own culture as time passes. As cruel as this might sound, it is a necessary step in developing soldiers that place the mission first. During war, it is crucial that soldiers react to orders without thinking. Cultural biases can interfere with this. Many cultures place a lot of importance on respecting elders. People are expected to defer to someone who is older. This presents a problem in the Army when a leader has soldiers who are older than him. The leader's orders must be obeyed without hesitation. By establishing a new values system, the problem of varying cultures is minimized. Years ago it was said that "if the Army wanted you to have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The War Of 1812 And The United States Army Essay The Army began its linage on June 14, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress created the Continental Army in order to combine the 13 American colonies and fight the British forces (). From then on out the United States Army has seen multiple wars from the War of 1812 to present wars today, and will continue to be one the many forces to protect the USA. Now over the years, the United States Army has had to shift the way it conducts its soldiers to fight in the wars and how to be proficient in battle; even with the new warfare tactics that our enemies are developing daily. Like any other unified team, how does the United States Army gain leverage against our enemies who look to seize the free world? Well like many teams they have offensive operations, which are to seek opportunities to gain leverage against their foes or even gain a win in the end and then they have defensive operations. Defensive operations are the opposite of offensive operations where instead of trying to take advantage of the enemy the Army's forces are trying to take a stance and push the enemy back. Thus allowing a chance to defend the territory where the soldiers stand and hopefully allow the soldiers to regain their forces. So like many other military forces we have used these tactics for many of years to defend our great nation, but of course over the years are tactics have had to change in order to adapt to different wars. So in this paper you will learn the most current tactics that our Army ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women Of The United States Army The United States Army was founded on June 14, 1775, and since this day women have helped nurture this great branch into what is known today as the largest and oldest United States Military service. ("Women") The US Army is consisted of about 452,064 enlisted soldiers and 87,610 officers. This total of 539,675 makes up 37.8% of all of the military branches. ("Demographics") As time has carried on more and more women are looking to serve the country in the Army. While women have many skills and abilities to offer, there is still a major issue that needs to be addressed. Double standards for women in the Army has created a disservice to not only the females but the entire Army. In order to have a more efficient armed force, standards for men and women should be equivalent. The military has always been a predominantly male environment. However, women have been active participants since the first major war, the American Revolution. Historically, women have served as nurses in many wars including Vietnam and both World Wars. As time progressed, females started to expand into different military occupation specialties. In the middle of the 1900s the first women pilots created the WASP. This stood for Women Air Force Service Pilots and their duty was to fly and deliver the planes from the factors to the military bases. During this same time fields like factory worker, national intelligence and security started to fill with female employment. Now women make up 15.7 percent of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Trust And Distrity And Integrityrity In The United States... Trust and integrity are the fundamental foundations of the United States Army; all new recruits learn the Army Values, the Warrior Ethos, and the Soldier's Creed starting on their first day. Even with this strong foundation, the Army has some weaknesses in its integrity that need improvement; two areas that require improvement are untruthful reporting and fraternization. There are also successful implementation of programs to improve the trust and integrity; the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program is one of them. Soldiers have become comfortable with fudging the truth and not telling the whole story. One of the biggest and most common ways that the Army is untruthful is by incorrectly reporting information and statistics to higher authority. One of the first instances of dishonesty a Soldier sees in the United States Army is pencil whipping 350–1 training. At my first duty station, I was inprocessing my unit. While filling out documents, the training non– commissioned officer (NCO) came up to me and handed a sign in sheet on a clipboard to me. She then explained the company completed some training earlier that day and I needed to sign the sheet. I was appalled and I did not sign into the training since I did not complete it. Unfortunately, the integrity that I showed by not signing the sheet, did not last very long. I quickly learned that there was never enough time for all of the training the Army expected its Soldiers to complete. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, training is foundational to everything in the Army and helps to shape a young teenage boy or girl into a tank mechanic, administrative specialist, infantry officer, or any number of military occupational specialties (MOS). Some jobs require the additional support of civilian training and this is true in the special staff branches such as the Judge Advocate Generals corps, Medical corps, and Chaplains corps. Army Chaplains in particular are required to obtain at least seventy–two seminary hours and a Master's degree in order to become a commissioned military officer. During their seminary time, future chaplains are trained in sermon preparations, church administration, and administering the ordinances of their faith group. However, they are rarely trained in addressing one of the most critical topics currently facing today's military personnel. Specifically, this would be training in counseling troops who are experiencing suicidal ideations. Another possible place for members of the Army chaplain corps to receive training in addressing a potential suicidal person would be during their initial military instruction time at the United States Army Chaplain Center and School (USACHCS) which is located in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. • 69. The American Of The United States Army As for the US Army, they had been given orders by which they had to abide which lacked defined rules of engagement. This meant that they had to complete the mission, and their superiors did not necessarily care if the natives were pleased or harmed with the outcomes. As far as they were concerned, there was land that had not been claimed legally and they wanted it. This was a huge change for the natives from when they had met Lewis and Clark on their journey exploring the Louisiana Territory decades earlier because both parties involved were amicable and cooperative. Even later when more white settlers came west and moved into lands the Indians once occupied, they voluntarily moved onto reservations without major issues. This was accomplished fluidly because the natives, unlike the white settlers, did not consider land to be "owned" by any person or group; land was theirs to do with what they would, which was to survive and live–rivers for water, animals for food, and other natural resources to create their homes, clothes, and instruments. The Battle of Big Hole was a demonstration of violence of action, and how rules of engagement have come to be created; the natives would have easily sat down and discussed the matters encircling the massive amounts of land available to them, but the settlers were misinformed and the government had a defense complex of doing what needed to be done for their side, and not necessarily thinking about alternative options to going in to battle ... Experiencing life, the world, and combat through the mind and eyes of a soldier has influenced me in ways that I had never conceived. These transformations, before, during, and after my military service have ultimately shaped me into the man I am today. I do believe that if I had chosen not to join the Army, today I would be a totally different person with completely different views and opinions. Joining the United States Fighting forces is a decision that no one should take lightly. Before I made the choice to join the army, it was the summer of 1998, I was a short 5 foot 7– inch–tall 17–year–old and weighed about 140 lbs. soaking wet, which was typical of a poor country raised boy. "Can't you do anything right"? I remember the old "stucco" guy yelling at me, as I struggled to lift the 80lbs bag of concrete mixture over my head to throw it into the fast spinning mixer. I was a young, immature, puny kid who thought he was invincible. Common practice in young men those days was to play dumb and not show others your intellectual capacity because "real" men had to be strong, fit, hardworking, and stupid. Just to fit in, I played the part well. However, inside I dreamt of a career in medicine. I loved to read, write, and play the piano. The other Logistics branches being the Transportation Corps, and Ordinance Corps. In 1775 the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution providing a Quartermaster General of the grand army and a deputy under him. At this time and until 1912 this organization was referred to as the Quartermaster Departments. In 1912 Congress consolidated Subsistence, Pay, and Quartermaster departments to create the Quartermaster corps. The role of the Quartermaster Corps is to provide logistical support to the ground forces. Every soldier is responsible for performing his duty to the very best of his ability and for trying to improve their performance, including personal conduct and appearance. Every soldier is responsible for treating other people with dignity and respect. Basically in the U.S. Army soldiers are expected to fulfill their duties with discipline since both that and duty go hand in hand with each other. You cannot perform your duties in a military manner if you are not disciplined and a soldier cannot show it without adhering to the standard even if it is keeping up with the appropriate military appearance (AR 670–1). It takes discipline to be responsible, although it doesn't just come from having discipline. Generally, all of the seven army values come together to build a disciplined soldier. Regulations For The Army Of The United States Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States "The Blue Book" Barron Friedrich Wilhelm Steuben wrote the regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States in the winter of 1778. The Continental Army spent that winter at Valley Forge under the command of General George Washington. The army was a group of raw untrained farmers and to this point in the war had perfected only one military maneuver, the retreat. The true history of the Barron's military experience is in question. For the beleaguered Continental Army the Barron and what became to be known as the U.S. Army's blue book of drill and ceremony could not have come at a more crucial time for General Washington and his army. The overall idea of the Barron's regulations for the army was to bring standardization of how the army performed every aspect of their daily life. The idea of standardization to any army is paramount to its success. The Continental Army at this point had very little if any among its ranks. It is very important for an army to march the same, shot the same, dress the same and to become a group that acts as one. While today the Special Forces Operations Units are seen as heroes and the highest caliber of enlisted men in the Army, they were not initially seen as an elite group. Perhaps the Special Forces did not receive the recognition they deserved because their successes in psychological and counterinsurgency warfare strategies were immeasurable during World War II and the Korean War. President Kennedy's administration would lead the way for the Army's Green Berets and later the Navy SEALS. However, it wasn't until the Vietnam War that unconventional warfare, or guerilla warfare as it became known, was utilized in a capacity that would expand the effectiveness and duties of the Special Forces Units. As the son of an enlisted Army soldier who served initially as a member of the 5th Specials Forces Unit and the 101st Airborne Division followed by time of duty with the Green Berets, a Ranger unit, and Delta Force during the Vietnam conflict, guerilla warfare was a frequent topic of conversation. From being a country boy from Bunn, North Carolina, to enlisting in the United States Army, and being deployed to Afghanistan the story of my life has token many paths. In this essay I will take you down the road of me trying to enlist in the Marine Corps and becoming a soldier in the United States Army. The Drive to Join As a young man I have always had the ambition to serve my country. Watching television has not made that any better for the reason when I see a commercial about the military my motivation to join skyrockets. I spent my time at Louisburg College running cross country and walked out of there with a Associates Degree in Business Administration. After graduating, I knew that student loans were going to be a toll and I also wanted to attend another university to gather a bachelor's degree. I wanted to please my father and myself for the dream I always had could help me pay for college. Presenting my father with a plan was the goal in accomplishing my dream and I knew he did not want his son to be in debt with student loans. Gathering the information was the start so I contacted an army recruiter to see how I was going to pay for college. He presented me with a student loan repayment program and also an incentive how I could pay for my bachelors and possibly masters. After he gave me the plan I presented it to my father. Again he was not for it. He told me he could let his son be buried in a pine box for trying to defend this nation. My father was adamant but what was the deciding factor was me letting him know I couldn't continue my education and I was going to be in debt. He then realized and told me, "son you are a man for putting your body on the line to provide for yourself and get an education." I knew I had a winner then. Even though I did not need his permission I wanted his condolences. I then enlisted in the United States Army as a young man at the age of 20 with a plan for my life. • 113. The United States Army Signal Corps The storied history of the United States Army Signal Corps is lined with technological achievement and advancement. Evidence of the technological advancement and achievement is seen in the Signal Corps development of the Airplane, the meteorological service and more recently the massive improvement in net centric communication, which has led to greater command and control for leaders in the field. It is now time for the Signal Corps to tackle the next big project, and that project is robotics, a field that can change the way the Army fights and wins wars. Robotics is a rather large field with limitless capabilities, but there is one place in particular that robotics can have the highest impact, and that is security. Securing our military bases , be it forward operating bases, outposts, or even our garrison areas have become a major issue over the last decade and countless lives have been lost in doing so but with the use of robotics we can make it safer. Using robotics in base security will allow the United States Army to make massive changes in force employment and the Signal Corps already has the tools necessary to make this happen with a little help from the outside world. One of the key concepts in changing force employment is the creation of a more flexible force capable of responding to complex situations while maintaining security and working to achieve the Army's goals of seizing, retain and exploit . One example of such a robot is the Mobile Detection Assessment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before then, I grew up in a family of five, four boys and one girl. Struggling day by day just to get around, my mother at that time was the only one working and my father was politician man and working for the Mayor his right hand man for about four years. Until the new election came and that's when my father got released from his job. With my mother the only one working she had many mouths to feed, my dad would do the best he could every day. My dad was like a "jack of all trades" as people would say, he is a fisherman, carpenter, cook and other skills I didn't know he possessed. My father even though he was not ... My recruiter showed me a video of what an infantryman does and I was sold, then told him that this is the perfect job for me. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It was hard for my parents to accept that I was joining the Army, especially my mom, all she could think of was that I was going to war and bad things could happen to me. She didn't want me to experience that kind of life and she couldn't bear the thought of losing one of her own children. So the day I flew off to basic I told my parents, "Everything will be fine trust me". This was my first time leaving the islands and being away from my family for a good while. So myself and two of my buddies started basic training together, we stuck together as soon as we got to 30th AG. I didn't know what I was getting myself into I have never seen so many different people in one area. I have never experienced being away on my own for the first time, I had no clue what was going on. I wanted to give up and quit, but I told myself no! I cannot go back home as a quitter, ever since then, my motivation that kept me going was my family and friends, I wanted them to be proud of who I've become. From the data, today's army is a very diverse group. Colonialism played a part in shaping and forming the Army community. The tension between Britain and the colonies began to build because of the unjust rule of the colonies. The colonies wanted to be independent and grow as a nation. Congress decided to declare independence from the British and form the Continental Army. "Previously, each colony had relied upon the militia, made up of part–time civilian–soldiers, for local defense, or the raising of temporary "provincial regiments" during specific crises such as the French and Indian War. The Continental Army consisted of soldiers from all 13 colonies." (Hogan 2005) Like today's army the army is a diverse group of people who were young, old, and came from different backgrounds. Military Professionals In a world of doctors, lawyer, scientists, and corporate executives how can the U.S. Army be regarded as a profession? The answer to the question might lie within the concept of the basic branches of the Army, and the specialized skills and equipment that set them apart from one another. This question might also be answered by examining the concept of putting untrained, well–armed, militia through a warfighter exercise, and comparing the results versus some so called Army professionals. One can look back in history, and examine the foundation and formation of the United States Army to garner a better understanding of it as a profession. Though these concepts are not all inclusive they will help to better understand why the Army is considered a profession by many, yet questionable by others. ... Of course one could point to the doctors and lawyers among the ranks, and say yes they are professionals. Military officials know that an Infantry Officer would not be expected to pick up a scalpel, and remove the shrapnel from the wound of an injured Soldier, without doing more damage than good. However, they cannot expect the doctors or lawyers among them to employ an Infantry Company on the battlefield in Afghanistan. Nor would they expect an Armor Officer to employ an Apache helicopter on the battle field. In 1998 respect language gave the Army a powerful way to organize ongoing discussions about discrimination and harassment.2 The previous year.s headlines had been filled with allegations of appalling violations of respect. The inclusion of respect as a value along with loyalty, duty, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage sent a strong message that respect for others should be an integral part of US Army leadership. ... The physical responsibilities all serve a purpose when it comes to being present. This is because not only can not being present affect others, but by not being present, others can also be harmed. Therefore, understanding why the physical responsibilities are split for military and civilian personnel is essential. When you add the Army standards to physical responsibilities, this requires a soldier to maintain an acceptable fitness level to achieve the minimum requirements of an Army Physical Fitness Test. Another addition to the physical responsibilities involved in the Army is accountability. Accountability of yourself, or another soldier is a highly important matter in regards to discipline.
