This document summarizes a research study that assessed the impact of inflation on construction material prices in Nigeria from 1998 to 2007. The study aimed to establish a relationship between inflation and construction material prices in order to develop a model for forecasting the effect of inflation on construction materials. It found that a third order polynomial equation relationship exists between cumulative inflation rate and construction material prices. It was inferred that cumulative inflation rate can be used to predict the price of building materials. The study advocated for more involvement of construction professionals in government policymaking and development of Nigeria's construction data to better forecast material price fluctuations.
Productivity of Concrete Placement by Dumpers in NigeriaIJERD Editor
The impressive economic growth rate of Nigeria is weakened by towering poverty statistics attributable to low productivity on construction sites. While in-situ concreting operations are important to the construction industry, labour productivity is often crudely estimated or lumped together irrespective of placement method. This research aims at investigating the effects of site productivity factors in the most prevalent mechanized concrete placement method in Nigeria with a view to optimizing its usage. To achieve this objective, data involving 26 concrete pours extracted from a total observation of 167 concrete pours on Lagos building construction sites were analyzed using the multiple regression method. The results which were subjected to optimization analysis using the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet package indicated that major productivity increases could be achieved with efficient scheduling of dumper concreting operations. Further research into the effects of other productivity factors using simulation modeling is recommended to establish optimal situations for a wide range of operating conditions that can be used to provide estimating and planning information for planning engineers on construction sites.

Cost control in construction projects is important to complete projects within budget. The Earned Value Management (EVM) model allows monitoring of schedule and cost by comparing planned, actual, and earned values. It uses three key indicators: 1) Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled is the planned cost, 2) Budgeted Cost of Work Performed is the earned value based on work completed, and 3) Actual Cost of Work Performed is the actual expenditure. EVM provides early warnings of deviations and allows forecasting to complete projects as planned. Proper use of EVM requires defining activities, durations, and costs during planning.
Application of machine learning in cement price prediction through a web-bas...IJECEIAES
Cement is one of the most common building materials in the construction industry. Simultaneously, its price fluctuation can affect the success or failure of the construction project's performance. The study aimed to develop a web-based platform that uses machine learning algorithms on historical data of cement prices, petrol prices, diesel prices, interest rate, and exchange rate to predict future prices of cement products. The web-based learning platform was developed using hypertext markup language (HTML), cascading style sheet (CSS), MySQL, and hypertext preprocessor (PHP). For building a reliable machine learning model, python language was used to train the system. The front end, the back end, and the machine learning model were integrated with a flask python framework. A system block diagram was designed to show the web-based learning platform's interfaces. The web-based learning platform's system implementation led to the login page, the home page, database page, and cement price analytics interface. In training the machine learning model to make reliable cement price predictions, the study obtained an 80% fitted model in the linear regression. The web-based machine learning platform was able to predict the prices of cement. The rationale behind the machine learning prediction shown by the scatter plot diagram revealed that the cement increases by 250 naira biannually.
An Empirical Investigation of Factors Affecting Construction Sector Labour Pr...inventionjournals
The construction industry plays a strategic role in developing countries like Zimbabwe. This research seeks to empirically determine the main factors affecting construction labour productivity in Zimbabwe. Questionnaires comprising of structured and unstructured questions were used to for data collection. The research employed heterogeneous sampling to select the target population, and fifty (50) questionnaires were completed and analyzed. Using a simple ordinal scale, based on a 5-point Likert Scale; contractors, consultants and professionals expressed their views on the relative importance of twenty-two (22) pre-selected factors on construction labour productivity. Data was analyzed using the Relative Importance Index (RII). The results show that late and or non-payment of wages and salaries, suitability and/or adequacy of capital, non-payment to suppliers, availability of experienced labour as well as education and training are amongst the top thirteen (13) most important factors impinging construction labour productivity in Zimbabwe. Timeous payment of salaries and wages as well as investment in staff training and development are amongst the recommended intervention strategies to improve construction labour productivity in Zimbabwe.
Exchange Rate Fluctuation and Real Sector Output in Nigeria A Disaggregated A...ijtsrd
This study examined the effect of exchange rate fluctuation on real sector output in Nigeria. It is the goal of every economy to have a stable rate of exchange with its trading partners. In Nigeria, this goal was not attained in spite of the fact that the country embarked on devaluation to promote export and stabilize the rate of exchange. Despite various efforts by the government to maintain a stable exchange rate, the Naira has depreciated throughout the 1980s to date. It is worrisome to note that Nigerian economy is under industrialized and its capacity utilization is also low. Specifically, this study examined the effect of exchange rate fluctuation on agricultural, industrial, building and construction, and trade sector outputs. It employed an ex post facto research design and the main statistical was the Auto Regressive Distributive Lag ARDL estimation technique using secondary data sourced from the Central bank of Nigeria statistical bulletins from 1986 2021. The result of the analyses revealed that exchange rate fluctuation had significant negative effect on agricultural sector output. Also, exchange rate was found to have a significant and negative effect on industrial, building and construction, and also trade sector output in Nigeria even though these effects were negative. The study concludes that although foreign exchange had significant effect on the real sector, such effect were negative thus displaying an inverse relationship. Sequel to these findings, there is a need for government at all levels federal, state, and local to actually invest in agriculture in an effort to match domestic demand and export to compete with crude oil for foreign exchange earnings. The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN is to provide foreign exchange relief measures for the acquisition of raw commodities that the nation naturally lacks while maintaining minimal exchange rate fluctuation to encourage local production by industries. The growth and development of any nation is highly dependent on the level of infrastructure. Infrastructural decay has taken a big toll on the economic development of most Sub- Saharan African nations. This paper investigated the effect infrastructural decay on the growth of the manufacturing sector in Sub- Saharan Africa with particular reference to the Nigerian situation. The data necessary for this study were obtained from secondary sources. The results of unit root suggest that all the variables in the model are stationary. The ordinary least square regression with a coefficient of 0.92 revealed a strong positive relationship between the variables of interest. A co-integration test was performed on these variables to determine the long-run relationship between the variables. The results of causality tests suggest that electricity supply, transport infrastructure and inflation rate (the explanatory variables) jointly explain changes in the manufacturing sector performance. The result also reveals a one-way causation running from interest rate to manufacturing sector performance. The Johansen cointegration result reveals the existence of a common trend among the variables of interest. Electricity decay was found to have the greatest negative impact on the manufacturing sector’s financial performance and output followed by inflation and transportation. The government is therefore enjoined to continue the reform programmes across the infrastructural segments of the economy.

CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN GOMBE METROPOLIS, N...John1Lorcan
The development of infrastructure has long been recognized as critical to economic growth and
development as it facilitates economies of scale, reduces costs of trade, and is thus central to specialization
and the efficient production and consumption of goods and services. This informed efforts at provision of
infrastructure at both national and sub national levels. However, there are evidences to show that
infrastructure provisioning is often characterized by numerous obstacles. It is against this backdrop that
this paper examined these constraints within the context of Gombe Metropolis in North Eastern Nigeria
using both primary and secondary sources. The result showed that weak political will, corruption,
financial, institutional, and topographical constraints constitute some of the major challenges faced in
developing a viable infrastructure in Gombe. Nevertheless, the paper went further to demonstrate that
depoliticization of infrastructure projects, Alternative sources of infrastructure financing, government
diversification policy, new infrastructure policy and reforms constitute the prospect for developing a robust
infrastructure for sustainable economic development in Gombe and by implication, North Eastern Nigeria.
National electric energy supply and industrial productivity in nigeria from 1...Alexander Decker

This document discusses the development of new construction cost indices that account for different construction methods and technologies used across countries. It analyzes data on construction material and labor costs from 16 countries to derive cost indices for various materials relative to labor wages and concrete prices. The findings show large variations in relative material costs between high-income, upper-middle-income, and lower-middle-income countries. These differences influence the choice of construction technologies and whether countries adopt more labor-intensive or material-intensive construction practices. The new cost indices can inform research and policies on developing local construction industries.

Impact of Commercial Banking on Nigeria Industrial Sectorijtsrd
This study examines the impact of commercial banking on Nigeria industrial sector using secondary data covering the period of 1980 2018 that were obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The model's estimates were estimated via multiple econometric model of the ordinary least square to determine the effect of commercial bank credit to industrial sector, inflation, infrastructure, exchange rate, interest rate, labour force and bank capital on industrial sector proxied by industrial output. The results show that commercial bank credits to industrial sector, infrastructure, inflation, labour and bank capital have a positive impact on industrial sector while exchange rate has a negative impact on industrial sector but conforms to the a priori expectation. The study also found out that only commercial bank credits to industrial sector and infrastructure were significant in explaining industrial sector growth while other variables used in the study were all found to be non significant in explaining the growth rate of the industrial sector. The study concludes that adequate commercial banks credit intermediation in the industrial sector and government expenditure on the needed infrastructure will enhance the sector performance. Is domestic private investment sensitive to macroeconomic indicators? Further...Premier Publishers
This paper examined the sensitivity of domestic private investment to macroeconomic indicators in Nigeria from 1986 to 2015 using domestic private investment as the dependent variable and gross domestic product, money supply, exchange rate, interest rate and inflation rate as independent variables. The Ordinary Least Square technique, ARDL Modeling technique and the Engle Granger causality technique for analysis revealed that domestic private investment is most sensitive to money supply, gross domestic product as a proxy for economic growth and exchange rate in Nigeria while it is less sensitive to inflation and interest rate in the short run. Gross domestic product as a proxy for economic growth and exchange rate affect domestic private investment positively while money supply has a negative effect in the short run. Domestic private investment is most sensitive to money supply and gross domestic product as a proxy for economic growth in the long run and both exert a negative and positive effect on domestic private investment respectively in the long run while inflation and interest rates also exert significant effect on the same. Meanwhile, the causality test revealed that domestic private investment drives money supply in Nigeria. Hence, it is recommended that monetary policies which relate mostly to the control of the cost, supply/availability and direction of money should be reviewed periodically and ensure that such policies are implemented with little or no lag. Furthermore, the devaluation of the exchange rate which will spur private domestic investment should be cautiously implemented.
An Evaluation of the Impact of Government Assisted Housing Programmes (GAHPs)...theijes
Housing investment has been considered as a major contributor to economic growth with many social and economic benefits. This research work was carried out to evaluate the impact of Government Assisted Housing Programmes (GAHPs) in Bauchi State. The methodology employed were Oral interview, Self-assessment, Checklist and Questionnaires. Two target groups were considered for this research: the first group was construction professionals such as Architects, Engineers, Quantity surveyors, Builders and Service Engineers involved in the construction of such housing programmes, while the second group was family heads/occupants of government housing programmes. The research was conducted using completed Tambari housing estate and 1000-units of two bedrooms semi-detached / three bedrooms under construction at Dungal as case studies. The information obtained from these case studies were analysed using relative index, linear correlation, regression and one - way ANOVA (Analysis of variance). The research revealed that the first five critical impact of housing programmes were employment for skilled and unskilled workers (RI = 0.77); increase demand for building materials market (RI =0. 75); Generates income and employment in a number of related /non-related industry (RI = 0.75); increases income to land owners due to compensation paid for land acquisition (RI=0.74) and attracts infrastructural facilities to such localities (RI = 0.72). It also revealed that most of the respondents were satisfied with the impact of GAHPs within their vicinity.
Effect of Foreign Exchange Rate Volatility on Industrial Productivity in Nige...ijtsrd
Effect of exchange rate volatility on industrial productivity has been a controversial debate among academia and experts. This study examines effect of exchange rate volatility on industrial productivity, many studies have mixed results on the direction of exchange rate volatility and the scope of the thesis covers 35years 1981 2015 , the pre and post Structural Adjustment Programme while primary and secondary data gathered from the Nigeria industrial sector by questionnaire and time series obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin, 2014 2016 were used. The data were estimated using descriptive statistical methods chi square and mean scores and Phillip Perron and Augmented Dickey Fuller used to determine the unit roots and non stationarity among the variables. ARDL and Bound test was applied to determine short and long run co integration among independent and dependent variables. Diagnostic and Normality test applied to test for stability. The F statistics is 159.3 and the R squared is 99.7 shown that variables are jointly significant and model a good fit. The Durbin Watson of 3.04 showed no serial correlation. The results shown that foreign exchange rate has a positive relationship with industrial performance, however, the exchange rate volatility crumbled industrial production as machinery and raw materials are imported for the industry productions, while bank lending rates, FDT, Inflation and PCI have negative coefficient. The ADRL and Bound test revealed a long run relationship among the variables at 5 significance level. The government should pursue currency appreciation as exporter of mono product and encourages non oil exports and discourage Nigerian cosmopolitan pattern of consumptions. Exchange Rate Deregulation and Nigeria’s Industrial Output (1970-2015)AJHSSR Journal
The study examined the effect of exchange rate deregulation on the industrial output of Nigeria
over the period 1970 – 2015. Data for the study comprising Nigeria‟s Industrial Sector‟s Output, Exchange Rate,
Capacity Utilization and Inflation Rate were sourced from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletin
2015 edition. The data were analyzed using Error Correction Model and Ordinary Least Squares technique. The
result of the analysis revealed that exchange rate deregulation impacted positively and significantly on Industrial
output over the long run period. The dummy variable, which was introduced in the data to segment pre-SAP and
post-SAP periods also showed that exchange rate deregulation was beneficial to the industrial sector. In
conclusion, the study recommended that exchange rate should continue to be deregulated and closely monitored
to discourage rent-seekers and price arbitrage. Also, the government should support export-led growth,
particularly in provision of incentives and soft loans to aid in the export of locally produced industrial outputs.
In addition, government should create a favorable and enabling environment for production such as constant
supply of electricity and good road networks.

Similar to AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF INFLATION ON CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL PRICES IN NIGERIA

This document discusses causes of cost overrun in construction projects in India. It first provides background on the size and importance of the construction industry in India. The results would help determine which causes require the most attention.

Here are a few thoughts on why sports bans for performance enhancing drugs should not be
lifetime:
- A lifetime ban is an extremely harsh punishment that does not allow for rehabilitation or reform.
Athletes who dope are often young and make mistakes; a lifetime punishment does not give them a

- Other crimes in society do not result in lifetime bans from an entire profession. Doping violates
rules, but it is not a criminal act and does not harm others directly. A lifetime punishment is
disproportionate.
- With stringent testing and monitoring programs now in place, the risk of reoffending is likely very
low after several years ban. Long bans serve as an effective deterrent while
