A Survey on Different Data Hiding Techniques in Encrypted Imagesijsrd.com
In this paper, we are going to have survey on different data hiding techniques and our main focus is on†Reversible data hiding in encrypted imagesâ€Â. In recent year the security of the sensitive data has become of prime and supreme importance and concern. To protect this data or secret information from unauthorized person we use many data hiding techniques like stegnography, cryptography and RDH. In this paper we will discuss on one such data hiding technique called Reversible Data Hiding (RDH). In this instead of embedding data in encrypted images directly, some pixels are estimated before encryption so that additional data can be embedded in the estimating errors. Without the encryption key, one cannot get access to the original image. A RC4 algorithm is applied on the rest pixels of the image and a special encryption scheme is designed to encrypt the estimating errors. Our paper presents a survey on various data hiding techniques and their comparative analysis.

A number of techniques are there to converse securely. Encryption and cryptography are enabling us to have a secure conversation. To protect privacy and communicate in an undetectable way it is required to use some steganography technique. This is to hide messages in some other media generally called cover object. In todays digital world where images are a common means of information sharing, most of the steganography techniques use digital images as a carrier for hiding message. In this paper a LSB based technique is proposed for steganograpgy. This technique is different from standard LSB technique that along with message hidden in LSB bits a part of message also resides at other selective bits using a key. The method is developed to increase the payload capacity and make detection impossible.

Design and Implementation of Data Hiding Technique by Using MPEG Video with C...Editor IJMTER
This paper proposes a technique on data hiding approaches using compressed MPEG video files.
This approach hides the message bits by modulating the quantization scale of constant bit rate MPEG
videos. Payload is calculated for each macroblock and proposes to achieve one message bit per
macroblock. Macroblock level feature variables are calculated. To find the association between
macroblock level feature variables and value of a hidden message bit, a Second Order Multivariate
regression model is used. To achieve the very high prediction accuracy, the regression model is used by
the decoder. To decode the message, a feature variable of MBs from the encoded bit stream are computed
by the decoder and expands them to the second order and uses the model weights to predict the message
bits. This solution provides very high precision accuracy in predicting the message bits . The proposed
technique is analyzed in term of quality distortion, excessive bit rate, message pay load and message
extraction accuracy. The proposed solution is better in terms of message payload while causing the less
distortion and reduced compression overheads compare to the previous works.

Steganography is a technique of concealing the secret information in a digital carrier media, so that only
the authorized recipient can detect the presence of secret information. In this paper, we propose a spatial
domain steganography method for embedding secret information on conditional basis using 1-Bit of Most
Significant Bit (MSB). The cover image is decomposed into blocks of 8*8 matrix size. The first block of
cover image is embedded with 8 bits of upper bound and lower bound values required for retrieving
payload at the destination. The mean of median values and difference between consecutive pixels of each
8*8 block of cover image is determined to embed payload in 3 bits of Least Significant Bit (LSB) and 1 bit
of MSB based on prefixed conditions. It is observed that the capacity and security is improved compared to
the existing methods with reasonable PSNR.
encryption based lsb steganography technique for digital images and text dataINFOGAIN PUBLICATION
Digital steganography is the art and science of hiding communications; a steganographic system thus embeds secret data in public cover media so as not to arouse an eavesdropper’s suspicion. A steganographic system has two main aspects: steganographic capacity and imperceptibility. However, these two characteristics are at odds with each other. Furthermore, it is quite difficult to increase the steganographic capacity and simultaneously maintain the imperceptibility of a steganographic system. Additionally, there are still very limited methods of Steganography to be used with communication protocols, which represent unconventional but promising Steganography mediums. Digital image Steganography, as a method of secret communication, aims to convey a large amount of secret data, relatively to the size of cover image, between communicating parties. Additionally, it aims to avoid the suspicion of non-communicating parties to this kind of communication. Thus, this research addresses and proposes some methods to improve these fundamental aspects of digital image Steganography. Hence, some characteristics and properties of digital images have been employed to increase the steganographic capacity and enhance the stego image quality (imperceptibility). Here, the research aim is identified based on the established definition of the research problem and motivations. Unlike encryption, Steganography hides the very existence of secret information rather than hiding its meaning only. Image based Steganography is the most common system used since digital images are widely used over the Internet and Web. However, the capacity is mostly limited and restricted by the size of cover images. In addition, there is a tradeoff between both steganographic capacity and stego image quality. Therefore, increasing steganographic capacity and enhancing stego image quality are still challenges, and this is exactly our research main aim. To get a high steganographic capacity, novel Steganography methods were proposed. The first method was based on using 8x8 non-overlapping blocks and quantization table for DCT with compression. Second method incorporates the DWT technique, with quality of any stego images as enhanced to get correct hidden image. And last LSB as to store images with Key type security built in.

Hide text depending on the three channels of pixels in color images using the...IJECEIAES
At the moment, with the great development of information and communications technology, the transfer of confidential and sensitive data through public communications such as the Internet is very difficult to keep them from hackers and attackers. Therefore, it is necessary to work on the development of new and innovative ways to transfer such information and protect it to ensure that it reaches the desired goal. The goal of a new technique to hide information design not only hides the secret message behind the center cover, but it also provides increased security. The most common way to transfer important and confidential data is through embedding it into cover medium files in a way that does not affect the accuracy of the carrier file, which is known as hiding. In this paper, encryption and concealment techniques were used to protect data transferred from attackers. The proposed method relied on encryption of confidential information using the encryption key and the Xnor gate, after which the encrypted information was hidden in a color image using the LSB algorithm. The method of concealment depends on the extraction of chromatic channels of three RGB for each pixel and specifying the channel in which the bit of the encryption message will be hidden. Some metrics have been adopted to measure the quality of the resulting picture after hiding as PSNR and MSE, and achieve good results.
Using SBR Algorithm To Hide The Data Into The JPEG ImageCSCJournals
Data hiding is the art of hiding data for various purposes such as--- to maintain private data, secure confidential data. Well known technique is the Steganography; Steganography has evolved into a digital strategy of hiding a file in some form of multimedia, such as an image, an audio file or even a video file. This paper presents a new Steganography technique in spatial domain for encoding extra information in an image by making small modifications to its pixels. The proposed method focuses on one particular popular technique, Least Significant Bit (LSB) Embedding. Instead of using the LSB-1 of the cover for embedding the message, LSB-2 has been used to increase the robustness of system. and protect the message against the external influences such as noise, filter, compression…etc.[Using SBR Algo].
For more protection to the message bits a Stego-Key has been used to permute the message bits before embedding it. An experimental result of the modified method shows that this paper helps to successfully hide the secret data into the image file with minimum distortion made to the image file.
A secure image steganography based on burrows wheeler transform and dynamic b...IJECEIAES
In modern public communication networks, digital data is massively transmitted through the internet with a high risk of data piracy. Steganography is a technique used to transmit data without arousing suspicion of secret data existence. In this paper, a color image steganography technique is proposed in spatial domain. The cover image is segmented into non-overlapping blocks which are scattered among image size window using Burrows Wheeler transform before embedding. Secret data is embedded in each block according to its sequence in the Burrows Wheeler transform output. The hiding method is an operation of an exclusive-or between a virtual bit which is generated from the most significant bit and the least significant bits of the cover pixel. Results of the algorithm are analyzed according to its degradation of the output image and embedding capacity. The results are also compared with other existing methods.

Secure High Capacity Data Hiding in Images using EDBTCijsrd.com
Block truncation coding is an efficient compression technique which has low computational complexity but it has two major issues like blocking and false counter effects .So here we have used error-diffused BTC that improves above deficiencies using visual low pass compensation on the bitmap. In this paper complementary hiding EDBTC is developed to resolve the above issue. In this project a single water mark is embedded and then multiple water marks are embedded .usually we use an adaptive external bias factor to embed the watermark but it damages the image quality and robustness .So here we use an extremely small bias factor to control the watermark embedding and this enables a high capacity scenario without significantly damaging image quality. Until now a few data hiding schemes are proposed but it damages the characteristics of BTC. The security of embedded water mark is high that it can’t be easy extracted by the malicious users. The watermark is encrypted by standard encryption algorithm and then it is embedded.

Hiding algorithm based fused images and Caesar cipher with intelligent securi...IJECEIAES
The process of sending confidential data through the communication media and in complete secrecy is now necessary, whether the data is related to patients, a particular military operation, or a specified office. On the other hand, with the development of various ciphering algorithms, and information hiding algorithms, there is a need to obtain ciphered and hidden data securely without the need to exchange secret keys between the two ends of the communication. In this paper, a hiding algorithm based on fused images and Caesar cipher with intelligent methods to strengthen the security of confidential information is proposed. Firstly, fused image scattering is obtained using 1’s complement and circularly shifting the bits of fused pixels by specified positions before the hiding process. Secondly, the keys for the Caesar cipher are derived from the length of secret information according to the mathematical equation. Thirdly, strengthen the security of Caesar’s cipher by taking a 1’s complement of each letter in the cipher data. The results guarantee the security of the presented algorithm.
EMPIRICAL STUDY OF ALGORITHMS AND TECHNIQUES IN VIDEO STEGANOGRAPHYJournal For Research
Steganography is the art and science of hiding the actual important information under graphics, text, cover file etc. These techniques may be applied without fear of image destruction because they are more integrated into the image. Information can be in the form of text, audio, video. The purpose of steganography is to covert communication and to hide a message from a third party or intruder. Steganography is often confused with cryptography because the two are similar in the way that both are used to protect confidential information. Though there are many types of steganography, video Steganography is more reliable due to high capacity image, more data embedment, perceptual redundancy etc. This research paper deals with various Video Steganography techniques and algorithms including Spatial Domain, Pseudorandom permutations, TPVD (Tri-way pixel value differencing), Motion Vector Technique, Video Compression, and Motion Vector Technique. The Video compression which uses modern coding techniques to reduce redundancy in video data has been also studied and analyzed. In fact, Video compression operates on square-shaped groups or blocks of neighboring pixels, often called macro blocks. These pixel groups or blocks of pixels are compared from one frame to the next and the video compression code sends only the differences within those blocks. Generally, the motion field in video compression is assumed to be translational with horizontal component and vertical component and denoted in vector form for the spatial variables in the underlying image, such as three steps search, etc. The study also discusses and focusses on the evolution of the Video Steganography techniques and algorithms over the years based on its application and subsequent merits and demerits. Further, Advanced Video Steganography Algorithm/Bit Exchange Method based on the bit shifting and XOR operation in the secret message file has been studied and implemented. The encrypted secret message is embed in the cover file in alternate byte. The bits are substituted in LSB & LSB+3 bits in the cover file. Finally, the simulation and evaluation of the above mentioned approach is performed using MATLAB tools.
Towards A More Secure Web Based Tele Radiology System: A Steganographic ApproachCSCJournals
While it is possible to make a patient's medical images available to a practicing radiologist online e.g. through open network systems inter connectivity and email attachments, these methods don't guarantee the security, confidentiality and tamper free reliability required in a medical information system infrastructure. The possibility of securely and covertly transmitting such medical images remotely for clinical interpretation and diagnosis through a secure steganographic technique was the focus of this study.
We propose a method that uses an Enhanced Least Significant Bit (ELSB) steganographic insertion method to embed a patient's Medical Image (MI) in the spatial domain of a cover digital image and his/her health records in the frequency domain of the same cover image as a watermark to ensure tamper detection and nonrepudiation. The ELSB method uses the Marsenne Twister (MT) Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG) to randomly embed and conceal the patient's data in the cover image. This technique significantly increases the imperceptibility of the hidden information to steganalysis thereby enhancing the security of the embedded patient's data.
In measuring the effectiveness of the proposed method, the study adopted the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, a paradigm for problem solving in computing and Information Systems (IS) that involves design and implementation of artefacts and methods considered novel and the analytical testing of the performance of such artefacts in pursuit of understanding and enhancing an existing method, artefact or practice.
The fidelity measures of the stego images from the proposed method were compared with those from the traditional Least Significant Bit (LSB) method in order to establish the imperceptibility of the embedded information. The results demonstrated improvements of between 1 to 2.6 decibels (dB) in the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), and up to 0.4 MSE ratios for the proposed method.
A Hybrid Approach for Ensuring Security in Data Communication cscpconf
For a very long time, various forms of steganographic and cryptographic techniques have been used to ensure security in data communication. Whereas steganography is the art of hiding the fact that any communication is taking place, cryptography on the other hand ensures data security by changing the very form of the data being communicated by using a symmetric or an asymmetric key. But, both the methods are susceptible to being weakened by a challenger. In
steganography, there is always a possibility of detection of the presence of a message by the opponent and most of the cryptographic techniques are vulnerable to disclosure of the key. This paper proposes a hybrid approach where in image steganography and cryptography are combined to protect the sensitive data thereby ensuring improved security in data
communication. To find the impact of the same, a simulator was designed in MATLAB and corresponding time complexities were recorded. The simulation results depict that this hybrid
technique although increases the time complexity but ensures an enhanced security in data communication.
Comparative Study on Watermarking & Image Encryption for Secure CommunicationIJTET Journal
Over the past decades, research in security has concentrated on the development of algorithms and protocols for authentication, encryption and integrity of data. Despite tremendous advances, several security problems still afflict system’s. In this android app watermarking and encryption is being applied on images and data. Because of the human visual system’s low sensitivity to small changes and the high flexibility of digital media, anyone can easily make small changes in digital data with low perceptibility. Here watermarking and encryption are being performed in wavelet domain. Here in watermarking, the coefficients of watermarks are being embedded with the coefficients of the original image. Encryption is being done in wavelet domain so that the probability of an intruder trying to access the contents is very much minimized. Thus, this model provides a high level of security.
Protecting Data by Improving Quality of Stego Image based on Enhanced Reduced...IJECEIAES
In this era of internet development, security of information sharing is the main problem faced by human being. Data hiding technique is one of the solutions. However, hiding credential information within a multimedia file such as image reduces its visual quality. Therefore, unauthorized users may suspect the existance of secret data within that image. In the past years, various data hiding algorithms have been developed by researchers to overcome the problem of high distortion of image after data embedding process. Achieving a high quality stego image, however, is still a challenging problem. In this paper, we proposed a new data hiding algorithm based on different expansion. It aims to enhance the quality of stego image for a given payload size. The new algorithm is evaluated on various medical images. Thereafter, the experimental results show that the visual quality is improved; and increasing the embedding capacity leads to more noises. Therefore, a better choice of base point and a reduced difference expansion affect the quality of stego image.

Abstract: Our paper proposes a new type of technique for retrieving back the hidden information in an images
using mobile communications. The usage of mobile communication in this paper is also termed as a step-2
verification on the receiver’s side. By using the histogram modification technique the sender is going to
embedded the data into an image, and sends it to the receiver. This paper mainly concentrates on the receiver’s
side to get back the embedded data using mobile communication. In the first section we briefly review the
introduction the on data hiding- its previous techniques, applications, and also about reversible data
embedding. In the second section we focus on the related work. In the third section we are going to discuss
about the proposed methodology for retrieving back the hidden information. The fourth section shows the
architecture of the proposed methodology. And the subsequent sections describe a note on security and
conclusion.

I. Introduction
With the invent of Computer Networks and Architectures, and ubiquitous broadband services provided
by the Internet Service Providers (ISP’s), people are capable of surfing on the internet at an acceptable cost. It is
also convenient to parties to share the resources and perform commercial activities on the internet. However the
hackers might have chance to exploit the servers to dig out a small piece of valuable information, such as credit
card numbers, bank account and password details etc. which are supposed to not be exposed to the public.
Moreover many chances are there to adversaries to perform man-in-middle-attacks to eavesdrop, falsify data
which is transmitted between two parties. Therefore to protect the data from being stolen or illegal way of
performing alteration becomes an important issue. Till today many organizations and institutions utilize
encryption and decryption techniques to protect data. But the exposure of private key to unwanted means may
result in insecurity of the confidential data. With all the above considerations on the other hand, data hiding in
images provides an alternative solution to guard against from the illegal activities of the behavior from the
adversaries [1].
Data Embedding is a new stegnographic method for embedding the confidential information into a
photograph, television signal, or identification card which are termed as a set of host data with small
deterioration. Data embedding is traditional problem which has applications in many areas from rigorous
mathematics to machine learning and also in data mining, data indexing and security, information retrieval, and
multimedia data processing.
Steganography is one such pro-security solution innovation in which the secret data is embedded into
an cover image [2]. This way the attacker does not realize that the data is being transmitted since it is hidden to
the naked eye and impossible to distinguish from the original media. The data embedding applications can be
divided into two (2) groups: a) depending upon the relationship between the embedded image and, b) on the
cover image. The relationship between the above two groups of data characterizes different applications. By
considering the covert communications, the hidden data may often be irrelevant to the cover media. By
considering authentication there may be a chance that the embedded data are closely related to the cover media.
In the above specified data embedding applications, the invisibility of an hidden data is an important criteria.

In most of the cases of the data hiding while embedding information or data into an image, the cover
media will experience some sort of distortion due to hiding of data. There exists some permanent distortion
which has occurred to the cover media even after the hidden data have extracted out. In medical diagnosis and
law enforcement applications, it is critical to reverse the marked media back to the original cover image after the
hidden data are retrieved for some legal considerations [3]. In the applications of Remote Sensing and High-
Energy particle physical experimental investigation, it is also desired that the original cover media can be
recovered because of the required high-precision nature. There exists some reversible data hiding techniques
which facilitates the immense possibility of applications where to link two sets of data in such a way that the
cover media can be losslessly recovered after the hidden data have been extracted out.
II. Related Work
In this section we are going to concentrate on various data hiding techniques in steganography to facilitate
secure data transmission over the underlying communication network.

message in RGB 24 bit color image. This is achieved by applying the concept of the linked list data structures to
link the secret messages in the images. First, the secret message that is to be transmitted is embedded in the
LSB‟s of 24 bit RGB color space. Next, like the linked list where each node is placed randomly in the memory
and every node points to every other node in list, the secret message bytes are embedded in the color image
erratically and randomly and every message contains a link or a pointer to the address of the next message in the
list. Also, a few bytes of the address of the first secret message are used as the stego-key to authenticate the
message. Using this technique makes the retrieval and the detection of the secret message in the image difficult
for the attacker.
Kuo et al. [5] [6] [7] [8] presented a reversible technique that is based on the block division to conceal
the data in the image. In this approach the cover image is divided into several equal blocks and then the
histogram is generated for each of these blocks. Maximum and minimum points are computed for these
histograms so that the embedding space can be generated to hide the data at the same time increasing the
embedding capacity of the image. A one bit change is used to record the change of the minimum points.
Das et al. have listed different techniques to hide data [9] [10]. The authors have mainly focused on
how steganography can be used and combined with cryptography to hide sensitive data. In this approach they
have explained and listed various methods like Plaintext Steganography, Still Imagery Steganography,
Audio/Video Steganography and IP Datagram Steganography which can be used to hide data. The authors have
also elucidated the Steganalysis process which is used to detect if steganography is used for data hiding.
(b)Data Hiding Techniques In Audio Signals:- Kekre et al. proposed two novel methods to transfer secret
data over the network by hiding them in the audio signals, thus generating a stego-audio signal [11] [12]. In the
first method the authors hide the secret data in the LSB of audio by considering the parity of the sample, i.e.
instead of directly replacing the digitized sample of the audio with the secret message, first the parity of the
sample is checked and then the secret data is embedded into the LSB. This way it becomes even more difficult
for the intruders to guess the bit or the data that is being transmitted. In the second approach, XORing of the
LSB‟s is performed. The LSB‟s are XORed and depending on the outcome of this operation and the secret data
that is to be implanted, the LSB of the sample data is changed or left unchanged. A different approach is
followed by Kondo. Kondo [13] proposed a data hiding algorithm to embed data in stereo audio signals. The
algorithm uses polarity of reverberations which is added to the high frequency signals. In this method the high
frequency signals are replaced by one middle channel and then the data is embedded. The polarity of
reverberations that is added to each channel is performed to adjust the coherence between these channels. The
detection of the embedded data is done by employing the correlation between the sum and difference of the
stereo signal. Also, original signal is not required to extract the hidden data by using this algorithm.
(c)Data Hiding Techniques In Video Sequences:- Li et al. [14] [15] suggested a data hiding technique based
on the video sequences. This method implements an adaptive embedding algorithm to select the embed point
where the sensitive data is to be concealed. The scheme functions by adopting 4x4 DCT residual blocks and
determining a predefined threshold. The blocks are scanned in an inverse zigzag fashion until the first non-zero
coefficient is encountered. The value of this coefficient is compared with predefined threshold and if it is greater
than the threshold then that pixel is chosen to embed the data.
(d)Data Hiding Techniques in IPv4 Header:- To securely transmit the data over the network the Vasudevan et
al. [16] used the analogy of the jigsaw puzzle. They insinuate to fragment the data into variable sizes instead of
fixed size like the jigsaw puzzle and append each fragment of data with a pre-shared message authentication
code (MAC) and a sequence number so that the receiver can authenticate and combine the received fragments

into a single message. At the sender side every data fragment is prefixed and suffixed with a binary „1‟ and then
XOR‟ed with a Random number called the one-time pad and transmitted over the network. When the receiver
receives the message it performs the exact opposite process of that to the sender and retrieves the intended
message.
Recently, some reversible marking techniques have been reported in the literature. The first method is
carried out in the spatial domain. It uses modulo 256 addition (assuming here that eight-bit grayscale images are
considered) to embed the hash value of the original image for authentication. In this paper he is using modulo-
256 addition to prevent the underflow/overflow and reversibility is achieved.
III. Proposed Methodology
The below are the steps showing the proposed methodology of our paper:
Step-1: Select an input image of any size M*N.
Step-2: Apply the Histogram Modification Technique and hide the data into the image.
Step-3: Send the data embedded image to the receiver.
Step-4: The sender has to store some passwords which are of six characters size. In the six characters password
the first letter must be a capital letter, and the third letter must be a small letter of the given capital letter; and the
remaining characters may be a combination of Numbers and Symbols.
Step-5: Whenever the receiver tries to retrieve the information in an image- he gets a window to enter the
mobile number of the receiver. After giving the mobile number he has to click on the “Generate Password”
button to get the password to his mobile.
Step-6: When the file opens, the receiver has to extract the hidden data manually which is embedded into the
image.
NOTE:- The receiver mobile number is stored in the sender’s database. The database checks whether the
number is available in the sender’s database or not.
*If available, sends the password to that mobile number specified by the receiver.
*If NOT available, sends the message to the receiver that- “You Are Not a Valid Person to Open This File”.

V. A Note on Security
In case of using the standard techniques available one could recognize intuitively the information or by
any way of using the technique manually. So the use of the Mobile Communication in our paper is to
authenticate the receiver (who is trying to retrieve the text from the image) which in-fact increases the security
level.
VI. Conclusion
In this Research paper we have used the mobile communication to secure the data by using Histogram
Modification technique.
