Loss Of Private Life In The Circle By Dave Eggers
The The Circle is a novel written by an American author, Dave Eggers. The novel revolves around a
social construction and deconstruction of private life and the effects they have on the lives of
individuals and corporate firms. Eggers unfold a story of a young lady, Mae, at a top technology firm,
which is headed by three giants he describes as Three Wise Men . The technology firm, which he calls
The Circle, is in the business of making life transparent through its sophisticated technological
innovations. It s a fascinating story, suggestively telling how internet technology has led to loss of
private information to corporate firms and internet giants. The three wise men, possibly alluded to by
Eggers are Twitter, Facebook and Google. Through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The court of the public is the most unjust court, court ruled by emotions and hunger for control and
revenge. As in the case of a politician who when it nears elections acts in a predictable manner in a bid
to please the voters. Mae s great motivation for her entirely public life is to please her millions of
followers and be popular, get highest ratings and move closest to The Circle s inner circle. She is a
public robot, her expectations vested in the public reward. No one really cares about Mae, what
remains with her outside The Circle is her family and her father s multiple sclerosis. After her father s
distrust on the SeeChange, she is distressed about the public knowing about the distrust and about her
ex, Mercer. That s all the public can offer at times, distrust. The public always has no better reward,
the worth of sacrificing private life. It is needless to share every bit of problems, worries and feeling in
the social network, there is always no solution there. Instead, sharing will make you more depressed
and drive you to the solitary

How To Make Awtys Essay
From the earliest days of family travel, four small words have resonated through the car are we there
yet?! If you listen closely you can almost hear those words wafting from the back seat of a Model T.
While cars have changed, family travel and that famous phrase have not. So, how do you stop the Are
We There Yets (known as the awtys in our family)? Most cases of the awtys are caused by three
factors: the need to move around, boredom, and desire for parental interaction. Here are some tips to
help combat this famous method of vacation torture. Mixing the tips to suit your family will work the
best! Children have their limitations. Even the best travelers will need to stretch their legs. Most
children can realistically handle about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Set a treat that works for your family; for example, stop for ice cream, stay up an extra hour, or have a
swim at the hotel pool. Remember to be consistent and follow through with your promise. Since they
are all depending on each other to not say awty the kids will remind each other and tend to help keep
each other entertained. When all else fails, make a game of the Are We There Yets . Use an online
translator program to find out how to say Are We There Yet in three or four other languages. Write the
translations on small notecards (one for each child). Don t forget to put some easy pronunciation tips
next to the translation. Let the kids know they can each ask awty in each of the languages once per trip
so they have to use them sparingly. There is really something so sweet about hearing your four year
old ask Are We There Yet in Japanese! If you don t mind hearing awty a few times along the way, try
this game. Write each of the four words on a separate notecard. Make a set of cards for each child.
Each time one of the children asks awty they have to give you one of their cards. The goal is for them
to have at least one card left when you reach the destination (or stop for the night, whichever condition

Persuasive Essay On Pompeii
Pompeii is one of the frequently visited landmarks of the roman s extravagant past. Over 2.5 million
of tourists yearly travel to the landmark to scrutinize the ash buried deceased roman people and
animals for over 250 years. Bringing the Italian Government millions of dollar s (US) from tourism.

Ironicly, there s no need to keep the public away from the site. The damage to the walls was not
caused by humans at all, according to an article; The primary cause (of the ) collapses was days of
torriential rain that taxed the city s draingage system and may have broken down some of the ancient
walls and weakend the walls ( Lobell, Jarrett). Because of the torrential rain

Microsoft Project Essay
Step 0 Don t use iLab
You don t need to, as long as you have a copy of Microsoft Project installed on your computer (either
because you already own it, or because you are using a work machine that has it, or because you
downloaded your free unrestricted copy from DeVry, or downloaded a trial copy from Microsoft,
whatever).
Step 1
If you want to use the version in iLab....
1. First we have to find it. It used to be a link in Course home called iLab
[pic]
Now we have to search it out (*sigh*). Soooo, select Student Resources from the left hand navigation
at Course Home

Dog In Harlem
The story I am analysing is The Baddest Dog in Harlem. It was written by Walter Dean Myers. The
story starts with some guys talking about who is the best fighter ever. Their conversation was cut short
by the police. The police looked after a guy with an automatic riffle. Then one of the police officer
slides and his pistol fired a bullet when he touched the ground. That starts a gunfire and as a result of
that a dog and a kid were killed.
The place where the story takes place is 145th street in Harlem. Harlem is a neighbourhood in New
York. The people in Harlem is very poor and half of them don t even have a job. There is also very
much criminality in the neighbourhood. As we can read on page 18 line 14 One thing about 145th

instead he took his wallet out of his pocket. In The Baddest Dog in Harlem there is also an innocent
kid there got shot because he wanted to see the reason for all the police and shots. Another parallel
there can be drawn is where Springsteen sings Lena gets her son ready for school; She says on these
streets, Charles; You ve got to understand the rules.; If an officer stops you,; Promise me you ll always
be polite,; That you ll never ever run away; Promise Mama you ll keep your hands in sight and the
part from The Baddest Dog in Harlem where the main character puts on his innocent face are equal

Deforestation In America s Rainforests
Brazil s rainforests and America s rainforests are great examples of the negative effect that
deforestation has on these specific areas. One of the rising challenges in our rapidly growing world is
the destruction of rainforests and how it is slowly ruining the world that we live in. Deforestation has a
lot of destructive impacts on the environment that is surrounding us, one of the most important being
its effect on the climate. The fast rise in the world s population, calling for high demand of resources,
is only hastening the effects of deforestation, which can hopefully be put an end to through the
enforcement of a handful of simple, key, and sustainable solutions. The fast rise in the world s
population is one of the many major causes of deforestation. Since the population ... Show more

Everyone has been told to do this, but I don t think everyone sees the importance of recycling. Sure, a
lot of people recycle, but there are a lot that don t. Recycling has many benefits, but the major benefit
is less destruction of forests. Again, the rising population calls for many products that are made from
trees, mainly paper. Everybody in the world uses paper, whether it be in the form of books, pencils,
toilet paper, towels, and even shoes. All these paper products, and more, are a direct result of
deforestation, for the trees are taken down and turned into these products. Say you have a whole box
of school papers that you don t need anymore, and you want to throw them in the trash. Instead of
throwing it in the trash, you should recycle it. When you recycle it, the paper goes to a factory, which
adds other products to it, melts it down, and molds it into other products. This process can eventually
rule out the need for deforestation, reducing the effects of climate change. Clearly, recycling is one of
the many sustainable solutions that can hopefully stop

Utopian Safe Sex Talk
A life filled with purely similar beliefs is theoretically impossible to come by, unless somehow a
Utopian society is developed with distinct guidelines forcing identical ideals amongst everyone. Since
that hasn t occurred yet, it is important that as people we are able to see, respect and possibly even
learn from the beliefs and origins of others. How we grow from our experiences in differing
perspectives and ideologies, demonstrate who we are as humans. Growing up having a very close
relationship with my mother and always maintaining strong communication, talking was always
straightforward. I had The Talk over the process on how babies were made when I was six years old.

The instructor not only was incredibly biased, but also attempted to assert her beliefs upon the many

She made sex sound taboo. She showed us pictures of STD s and STI s to further convey her point on
why not to have sex. She told us that our virginity is a sacred gift and how it should only be given to
the person we marry, not only did this automatically disqualify the portion of the kids who had already

environment. Public school is unique because of all the different views and ideals that compose it,
therefore I believe that teaching religious beliefs in a public school environment is incorrect. I felt that
the instructor was wrong in her teaching; instead of teaching impressionable kids the safe ways to
have sex and proper hygiene or how to use protection correctly, she assumed that it would be alright to
simply tell us not have sex and we would incoherently obey (which many of us

Listening to what the employees want is a big part to design motivating jobs for camp staff. These
things could include making the working place and enjoyable environment to work in. Making the
employees feel welcome and appreciated in their job. Giving the employees recognition when and
where it is deserved

their employees, especially if they focus on helping employees to develop and The McGraw Hill

Affirmative Action And The Civil Rights Movement
Affirmative Action has had a very tumultuous 54 year history. Affirmative action was a strategy that
forged the Civil Rights Movement in response to the prejudiced approach toward African American
citizens in the United States. The policy advocates that black citizens in particular conditions to avoid
the unfairness they would usually receive. To try and explain why the methods and laws needed to be
adjusted to be equal for everyone. It is essential to realize that 20 Africans came to America in 1619,
records are not clear if they were slaves or indentured servants. It was until 1640 when the first
African in Jamestown Virginia was declared a slave. The Court ordered that the slave had to serve his
master for the rest of his life. The slaves made to work long hours and numerous slaves endured
inhuman treatment and underwent severe injuries. American citizens in the South challenged a lengthy
campaign to seek to continue to be permitted to own slaves but through Lincoln and abolitionist slave
owning was ultimately banished. Despite condemning slavery and installing multiple laws in society
to assure African Americans be treated comparatively equal residents, this was not the situation in
most regions in America particularly the South. Each attempt by the government to secure the level
treatment of the African American was met with difficulties. Companies in society rejected the idea to
hire African Americans over a white American even if both had comparable abilities.

What Is Elon Musk My Hero
My hero is Elon Musk. Elon Musk owns 3 companies, all simultaneously working towards 3 amazing
goals. His company SpaceX is working toward landing humans on mars, his company Tesla is
working on making cars safer and more environmentally friendly, and his company Solarcity is
working on implementing 100% renewable energy worldwide. He leads a very busy life, and still
dedicates lots of his time to making the world a better place. Because of all of these things Elon Musk
is a hero in every sense of the word.
He owns a company named SpaceX, which is working towards multiple extremely important goals.
His company is primarily working towards landing humans on Mars, and that might not sound like
much, but is much more important when you look into the finer details (spacex.com). Firstly, he is
working to expand our knowledge of the universe, which is great because the more we know about
our universe the more amazing things will be possible in the future, and sooner. Another great benefit

Elon Musk seeps heroism. He has dedicated his life to making other s lives better. He has spent his life

The Ethical Principles Of Respect For Autonomy
The case scenario presents Mark who has been involved in a car accident. Mark has suffered
significant internal bleeding and needs a blood transfusion immediately for his survival. This has been
clearly stated by his attending doctor. Mark is still conscious and oriented. Mark is a Jehovah s
Witness and receiving blood is against his religion. Mark signs a Refusal of Treatment document
stating his wish not to receive a blood transfusion under any circumstances. His girlfriend, Pam, wants
him to receive blood and is asking the nurse to administer blood despite Mark s refusal. This situation
presents an ethical dilemma to the health professionals involved in Mark s care. The ethical dilemma
is whether to uphold his decision not to receive the blood and therefore risk his life or give him the
blood to save his life despite knowing his religious status and beliefs. There are several ethical
principles involved in this scenario. The ethical principles of respect for Autonomy, Beneficence, Non
maleficence, Veracity and Fidelity will be discussed in the latter part of this essay. There are also legal
concepts to be considered in this scenario which are legal principles of Consent and Right to refuse
treatment which can also be addressed as the contemporary issues that is being faced by the health
practitioners these days.
Ethics is concerned about what is right, fair, just or good; about what we ought to do, not just about
what is the case or what is most acceptable or

William Shakespeare Fraud Essay
Was Shakespeare A Fraud? One of the most argued cases in history is whether or not William
Shakespeare was the one to write his own plays, or if he had someone else write them for him. There
are numerous amounts of arguments agreeing that Shakespeare wrote his plays, and then there are
numerous amounts disagreeing with his penmanship of his plays. According to some sources,
Shakespeare was an impractical choice to write such famous works of art due to his lack of traveling,

The Bourgeoisie In The 17th Century
Did the Bourgeoisie bring substantial changes to 17th century Europe?
As the world has become increasingly competitive especially with globalization and economic
expansion the economic group that is behind this expansion were the bourgeoisie. During the 17th
century the bourgeoisie were known to be the upper rich class through the control of manufacturing
product or finance. The Bourgeoisie were the smaller population that held more wealth and although
they lacked in finding solutions to have a balanced society, they were able bring substantial changes
such as more wealth to their own cities through manufacturing products and allowed cultural diffusion

Since they were the in charge of manufacturing products and finance, they were able to increase to
population of cities. The increase of these cities is due to specialized laborers and skilled craftsmen
which helped produce variety of goods in factories and workshops of varies towns and cities. The
bourgeoisie were devoted and spent long hours to their businesses and poured much of their profit
back into them or went for new ventures. Another change substantial change the bourgeoisie were able
to make was cultural diffusion through trade. As goods such as Caribbean and Brazil sugar and rum,
Mexican chocolate, Virginia tobacco, North American furs, East India cotton textiles and spices and
Chinese tea (page 452) were in demand. Cultures begin to clash with one another with different types
of clothes, art, food to be accepted with in different regions. One of the items that was beneficial to
many of these regions when it came to trade was maps. The Dutch were successful and excelled at
mapmaking which helped different places to have contact with foreign land and trade. As the
expansion of maritime trade increase due to the trade, newer designs for merchant s ships emerged
which allowed a larger capacity of cargo to be held within a ship. The government as well undertook

For as long as there have been people, there have been methods of distinction amongst them.
Throughout the years we have discovered ways in which to express our beliefs, our ideals, and our
passions. Tattooing has been one of forefront methods in expressing our humanity, or in certain cases,
our lack there of. For so many, they have taken on many different representations, each with an equal
level of significance. The importance found in the symbolism of tattoos and their cultural relevance
has consistently been a trend found throughout history, religion, and art.

The defiant Japanese commoners covered themselves lavishly from their necks to their elbows, and
above the knees. The Japanese government looked upon this disturbance of the poor as subversive,
and outlawed tattoos in 1870. This is when the symbolism of tattoos in Japanese culture shifted. They
had gone from a representation of splendor, to one associated with Japanese crime. As a result,
tattooists were forced to retreat into the background of Japanese society. Luckily for them, the
Japanese gangster class in Japan known as the Ikuza, embraced this subculture with open arms. The
elaborately designed tattoos of the Ikuza depicted above, represented character traits the wearer
desired to emulate. A lion represented courage, while a carp was worn to emulate strength and
perseverance. Because the designs required long periods of pain, the act itself was looked upon as a
show of allegiance to the wearer s personal beliefs. Tattooing was also popular amongst Maori men of
New Zealand, who covered their buttocks, thighs, and faces. Maori men had their faces tattooed by a

A Look at Today s Whaling Essay
A Look at Today s Whaling
The story of the whale is so remarkable, that were there not so many witnesses, I would not venture to
tell it, lest I be accused of exaggeration.
J.D.B Stillman, aboard the ship Plymouth, November 1850 (Stewart, 1995)
There is no doubt that humans have always been intrigued with the majestic beauty of the large giants
found in all of the world s oceans. Whales and people have had a long history together, marked by
many turns of events.
Long ago, native tribes, from many places in the world, depended largely on whales for protein in
their diets. They were also able to use much of the whale for oil, thus began a tradition of whaling.

The Change in Whaling
What exactly happened in the whaling industry that had such a detrimental effect on the whale
populations?
In the nineteenth century, commercial whalers began using whole fleets to hunt whales, with each ship
given a specific role. The largest ship, found at the center of the fleet, was the factory ship. At the
heart of these ships are many tanks. Christopher Ash worked as chief chemist on the factory ship
Balaena, and in his book Whaler s Eye, comments on the massive tanks found in these ships. Balaena
really is a tanker, and almost all of her hull...is subdivided into thirty six tanks. It is rather like an egg
crate with nine rows, each of four tanks extending across the ship, and each tank able to take some
five hundred tons of fuel or Diesel oil, which will be replaced after cleaning by whale or sperm oil, or
perhaps meat meal; sometimes they must be filled with sea water as ballast. These tanks are
impressively large, being well over thirty feet deep; so that when standing on the bottom and looking
up to the one small square of light far above, it is difficult to believe that we can produce enough oil to
fill the whole of that volume in twenty hours (Ash, 1962, p.19). Underneath the tanks is the bottom of
the boat. Above the tanks is the tank deck. This holds the centrifuges used to separate oil and glue
water, as well as driers and bagging machines

The story takes place when Fulghum, the author, is left to babysit eighty children seven to ten years
old, in the church social hall. He decides to organize a game called Giants, Wizards, and Dwarfs to

reached its climax, Fulghum yelled at the children to decide whether they were a giant, wizard, or

Fulghum, Where do the Mermaids stand? In shock of the girl s response, Fulghum took a long pause

norms and is defined by their category. The mermaid the author refers to in the quote would be the

Reflexive Listening In Extract 9
The function and structure of the conversation in extract 9 is almost similar to the interactions found in
extract 8. Here, the therapist asked the question to the patient with a possible intention to evaluate the
patient recovery through a patient centred approach. In this extract the patient not only expressed
concern (actually I can t say I got reduced (disease)) but also illustrate active expression of demands (I

The Basque National Liberation Movement
The Basque Region is amidst tensions because of its border, which is between the countries of France
and Spain. The Basque National Liberation Movement also plays a role in the political boundary
because it includes social and political groups that are based around armed organizations that are
illegal. The main group within the Basque National Liberation Movement is the ETA, an Armed
Basque Nationalist group. The ETA is the most important member of the Basque conflict, and is also
accountable for the hundreds of deaths, injuries, and kidnappings that occurred. The conflict between
the countries and groups is over land as well as the Pheasant Island in between the two. The island and

Castleton Tourism Case Study
In this case study I will be investigating the hypothesis Tourism in Castleton is managed effectively. I
will be investigating tourism in Castleton and how well they manage it, and the measures they take to
control it. I will then decide whether the hypothesis is true or false. I will answer the key question
Where is Castleton? because it is important to know the area and how easily accessed it is and just
how many tourists it gets because of its location. I will also answer the key question What issues
surround tourism and what impact does it have on certain areas? because it is important to know about
how much tourism Castleton gets to see if it even needs managing in the first place. I will also answer
What strategies are used to manage tourism? Because this will help to decide if Castleton does try to

Because of all these different ways of using land in National Parks, many conflicts have arisen in the
past, and are still arising today. Tourists and walkers dislike the quarries being dug in National Parks
for mining, and so local councils have ordered these to be covered with trees to hide them from public
views. The locals and conservationists get irritated by tourists who damage footpaths and disturb
wildlife in the area. All of the people using National Parks get annoyed with each other because of
their decided use for the land, and the local councils try very hard to control these conflicts and solve

Waitakere Range Research Paper
The Waitakere Ranges are home to many flora and fauna. These plants and animals make up the
communities within their ecosystem. They interact with each other through competition and various
relationships. In the Waitakere Ranges, there are several habitats organisms live in:
Forests and shrub lands
Freshwater wetlands, lakes and streams
Coastal wetlands, dunes, and estuarine tidal flats and channels
Urban area
The populations of each habitat vary, as they would be dependent on abiotic factors such as: light,
temperature, water and soil.
Within communities, organisms compete for limited resources (food, space, mates, shelter). 613 of our
native species (plants, birds, fish), compete with 240 introduced plant species, 19 introduced bird
species, 9 introduced mammals and 2 amphibians. It is estimated that we have lost 30 native bird
species due to this competition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, primary consumers such as snails and weta eat producers, consuming their nutrients. Secondary
consumers, such as Kereru, Tui and Long Tailed Bats then consume these insects, with energy passing
through the food chain to them. Tertiary consumers such as stoats and possums are pests to our native
species as they are threats to populations of our native birds.
Pests in the Waitakere ranges include wasps, mould, rats, goats and pigs. These species are considered
predators and parasites, these species benefit while their prey species is harmed. Wasps and mould kill
native trees for shelter and food. Rats, goats and pigs prey on native species of birds, insects and
fauna. Predation by introduced species of native species both threatens native populations, but also the
balance of the ecosystem. With predatory niches being taken, these pests not only threaten their prey,
but also native

Copper Iodide Synthesis Lab Report
Before the synthesis of the Copper Iodine Compound, the identities provided (CuNO3)2 and Nal
weighed 1.65 g and 4.7 g, respectively. After being weighed, the (CuNO3)2 exhibited a blue color,
while the Nal, through observation, was a white color. However, when both identities were combined,
the product turned into a brown and red rocky material. Once 20 mL of deionized water was added,
the product quickly turned pale pink paste. After the solution was repeatedly washed with a total of an
additional 100 mL of deionized water, the product was powdery and pink with small grains, and was
left to air dry. Once the product was air dried, it was observed to be a pale pink color, while the filter
paper was stiff as the product was hard and dry. Therefore, the solid was scraped off onto a
recrystallizing dish. However, the mass of an empty recrystallizing dish needed to be recorded in order
to compare how much of the synthesized copper iodide was obtained. Within this case, the empty
recrystallizing dish used weighed 32.01 g, the product on the empty dish weighed 1.03 g, having a
total weight of 33.04 g.
Subsequently, two porcelain crucibles were used, weighed, and heated for about 10 minutes and then
placed into a desiccator to cool. The two empty porcelain crucibles were first heated because the heat
would vaporize any impurities that were originally on the crucible. The first crucible weighed 11.9047
g and the second crucible weighed 12.3735 g. Once the mass of the two crucibles

Genetic Algorithms And Its Applications Of Cyber Security
Genetic Algorithms and its Applications to Cyber Security Paper By Sameera Chalamalasetty
Guided By Dr. Mario A Garcia
Abstract:
Genetic algorithms (GAs) were initially proposed by John Holland, whose thoughts were connected
and developed by Goldberg. GAs are a heuristic pursuit procedure in view of the standards of the
Darwinian thought of survival of the fittest and characteristic genetics. Holland s work was basically
an endeavor to numerically comprehend the versatile procedures of nature, however the general
accentuation of GA examination from that point forward has been in discovering applications,
numerous in the field of combinatorial enhancement. Genetic algorithms have been utilized as a part
of science and engineering as versatile algorithms for tackling functional issues and as computational
models of common developmental frameworks. In the latest couple of decades, this procedure with
advancement of cutting edge development has accomplished something new.
Introduction:
Li [3] describes genetic algorithm as a family of computational models based on evolution and natural
selection. Bobor [4] has defined a genetic algorithm as a programming technique, which mimics
biological evolution as a problem solving approach.

The Financial System Inquiry ( Fsi )
The Financial System Inquiry (FSI) acts as a model for achieving a resilient and efficient financial
system, contributing to Australia s economic growth. The Capital requirements implemented
according to the FSI has potential impacts on Australian banking system:
1. Increase in borrowing cost/ interest rate
The recommendation that banks in Australia are required to hold additional capital would lead to an
increase in the borrowing costs. Furthermore, the requirement of capital held in banks must be of a
higher quality makes capital more expensive (FSI 2013). A 1% point increase in capital requirements
is estimated to raise average interest on loan by less than 10 basis points, assuming that full cost is
passed on to consumers (Mitchell 2013). In relation to that, Australia banks have to come up with
repricing strategies to pass on the cost to consumers. However, the actual change in lending interest
rates would be lower in a competitive market because RBA has can lower the cash rates in critical
conditions. An increase in interest rate would lower real GDP by less than 0.1% points (Mitchell
2013).
2. Foregone opportunity cost
The higher capital requirements would imply that banks need to use more capital funding and place
larger constraints on banks sources and usage of funding (The banking system 2013). This would limit
or forego banks opportunity to finance new projects (FSI 2013).
3. Reduced risk premium
On the bright side, the tighter capital regulations would reduce

American Hustle Movie Analysis
The Art of Survival
I ve always had a particular fondness for movies that made me think. I love long, drawn out movie
scripts that include lots of plot twists, where the movies intent and message is not always clear right
up front. This particular reason is why I chose to evaluate the movie American Hustle. I really enjoy
watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the actors that were cast in this
production. The movie, American Hustle, is a comedy drama that is loosely based on the real life FBI
sting, called ABSCAM, that took place in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s. The movie centers around
two con artist named Irving Rosenfeld, played by Christian Bale, and Sydney Prosser, played by Amy

My favorites were Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The transformation that
Bale put himself through in order to play this role was incredible. He has a history of gaining and
losing weight for various roles but I had never actually seen this for myself until I watched this movie.
Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and changed his posture by
slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence
was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse herself into any character, bring them to life,
and still have pieces of her own personality shine through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this
movie was practically nonexistent, he still made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a
legendary mob boss and casino owner named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well
because he has this serious demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is
sitting down at a pool table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley
Coopers character, and he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. Coopers character, Richie DiMaso,
informs Victor Tellegio that the Sheikh only speaks Arabic and, unbeknownst to anyone else at the

The Meaning Of Jacob
The Meaning of Jacob
Jacob, a simple name, is easy to say, easy to spell, and easy to remember. Jacob comes from the
Hebrew origin, Supplanter . Supplanter means one who follows another s heel. My name fits me. To
me, Jacob means someone who is smart, funny, and outgoing. I am very smart, at least I think so. In
real life, I am not that funny, but some people think that I am funny. I am sometimes outgoing because
if I really want to be someone s friend I just go up and ask. But I love my name. My dad wanted me to
be Rocco, but my mom wouldn t allow it. On the day of my birth, my dad was going to change it.
Birth certificate in hand, he was going to change my name to Rocco, but my mom would dislike the
name and dislike my dad even more, so he kept it. But I do love my name. My son s middle name
would be Jacob if I even have a son. Jacob is a good name. It fits who I am.
Although, I can see Jacob in a different way. In a bad way. Like There is a disturbance in the force
kind of feeling. The bad Jacob can mean things like menacing, mean, and unforgiving. Personally, I
can see how I can be one of those things. I am definitely not menacing, definitely no unforgiving
because I forgive people all the time. No one thinks that I am menacing because everybody tells me
that I don t look or sound intimidating. But I am mean. When I am angry or mad, I stay that way for a

Impact Of The Italian Renaissance
After the decline and disappearance of the Roman Empire, the Italian Renaissance was introduced to
the European culture. The Italian Renaissance was the revival of the Greek and Roman cultures in
forms of art, education, and literature. The Renaissance originally began in Florence, Italy during the
time of 14 A.D and eventually began to expand throughout western and northern Europe in 15 A.D.
The rebirthing of these ancient cultures brought much awareness and knowledge to the Italian society
and resulted in change in their perspective toward the world and their culture.

Great Anthropocene Essay
A Great Anthropocene or a Utopia
An Eco modernist manifesto states that we need a good Anthropocene, which demands that humans
use their growing social, economic, and technological powers to make life better for people, stabilize
the climate, and protect the natural world (Page 7). In order to protect the natural world, we should
stay away from nature and give more land back to the nature world, instead of letting human society
goes along with nature in harmony. The new technologies would allow us to achieve much more from
a limited amount of land. Thus, humans have the opportunity to re wild and re green the Earth (Page
14) and will achieve a great Anthropocene.
I also deeply love and emotionally connected to the natural world, and I really hope what the
manifesto proposed could come true. I agree that by using new technologies, we can make what
impossible become possible, we can be more efficient, and we can allowing more room for non human
species (Page 18). However, I doubt that would happen, though I believe it could. First, it s not easy to
access these new technologies. Currently, they are not as cheap as the author described. Second, when
the new technologies fail, they might bring more significant disaster to the nature world. Third,
whether we can achieve a great anthropocene is more a humanity issue that a technology issue in my
view.

Montesquieu Separation Of Power Part 1
PART 1(BULLETS 1 2) Popular sovereignty is the governments control should be based off of the
approval of the citizens, and whom the citizens elect. A generic example would be the Democratic
principles of the united states of America. The root of popular sovereignty dates back to the 1600s,
when Hobbes, Rousseau, and Locke created these intellectual and philosophical views. These men as
well as the founding fathers wanted to establish a more stable government. They did this by making
every law not decided by the consent of the people, directly or indirectly unconstitutional and
illegitimate.
Separation of Powers is the disunion of one division to equally split the ability to different
subdivisions. A generic example would be the use of the branches in America to limit the power of one
person or group. This was created by Montesquieu and his three branches are judicial, executive, and
legislative. The origin of separation of power was in France by a man named Montesquieu. In his ...

Food In The Elizabethan Era
Food of the Elizabethan Time
People s food of the Elizabethan time period depended on their social status and their financial
abilities while malnutrition, diseases, and deficiencies made it harder for them to find food. The rich
and the poor both had high risks of deficiencies because of the lack of sanitary foods and places and
lack of nutrients. The food consumed varied depending on wealth and social class. In the Medieval

Lundgaard Et Al. (2015) Also Recognized The Conflicting
Lundgaard et al. (2015) also recognized the conflicting hypotheses in cerebral metabolism and that
until this uncertainty is removed, the reliability of neuroimaging data interpretations is reduced. To
address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two
photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose
during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up
more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in
neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and 14C 2

The analysis performed was ex vivo; results showed neurons in multiple brain regions, including CA1,
took up more 2DG IR than astrocytes. Next, to determine if anaesthesia affects cerebral metabolism,
2DG IR uptake in neurons and astrocytes of GLT1 eGFP reporter mice was quantitatively analyzed
after ketamine/xylazine administration. Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than
astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. (2015) introduced the activity dependent component to their study
by unilaterally stimulating (3 Hz) the whiskers of mice and observing 2DG IR uptake and neuronal
activation. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker
stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further,
2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake
in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically
significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused
activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally,
Lundgaard et al. (2015) used fluorescence activated cell sorting to separate neurons and astrocytes,
and then proceeded to use quantitative polymerase chain reaction to analyze gene expression. Since

Home Rule As A Force Of Unity And Division Of Irish...
Discuss Home Rule as a force of unity and division in Irish political life during the period 1886 to
1921.
The home rule question played a prominent part in Irish history for over 40 years. Home Rule, the
ideology that a country under a colony would rule itself from home, caused bitter political and social
divisions throughout Ireland. Whilst the division between nationalists and unionist became rife, Home
Rule unified many that were willing to fight for Ireland s cause.
In Ulster there was a sectarian rivalry between Protestants and Catholics. The secret ballot act of 1872
and the Reform act of 1884 reduced the political power of protestant and they felt threatened. From
1885 to 1886, Home Rule became a greater possibility for Ireland, unionists and Protestants became
more restless and agitated. Divisions emerged in politics and in 1885 the Irish Loyal and Patriotic
Union were set up to fight Home Rule. After the general election of 1885 divisions were further
polarised between unionists and nationalists. The electorate was divided into the Home Rulers and the
unionists. The Orange Order was revived and it unified Protestants of all classes against Home Rule.
Many Protestants became a member of the Ulster Loyalist and Anti Repeal Union which was
established in 1886. The Conservative Party in Britain established an alliance with unionist. This
unification was set up to protect the interests of the British Empire. The Conservatives believed that if

Lais of Marie de France
Throughout the Lais of Marie de France there are several themes presented as central to the various
stories. Some of these themes are present in all of the lais. One such example is that of courtly love
and it s implications. Courtly love being one of the more prominent themes in all of medieval
literature, it is fittingly manifested in all of the lais as well. Another theme present in two of the lais is
isolation. The theme of isolation plays a large role in the stories of Guigemar and Lanval. In each of
these lais we see isolation as a factor in determining the fates of the central figures. Within each lai
isolation is represented on several different occasions, each time having a direct impact on the
outcome. These instances of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prison is described as being of incomparable beauty and being decorated with poetic images. The
walls of the chamber were covered in paintings in which Venus, the goddess of love, was skillfully
depicted together with the nature and obligations of love; how it should be served with loyalty and
good service. (p.46) The lady was indeed alone, isolated from all except for her servant and the lord,
upon his command. No one, man or woman, could have gained access to this spot, or escaped from
this walled enclosure. (p.46) Thus far Guigemar s isolation as well as the lady s isolation may be seen
as vehicles for their introduction to one another. In the lai of Guigemar we are presented with isolation
as a physical removal from others. Whether it be Guigemar alone in the woods or the lady alone in her
prison home, the isolation is always physical and forced, even if it be a force of magic such as the
curse of the magical animal on Guigemar which draws him to the magic ship. In the case of Lanval
this is often times not the case. With Lanval we often see isolation as a more psychological event. In
the story s opening we see Lanval as being isolated from the very court and king he serves. He
apportioned wives and lands to all, save to one who had served him: this was Lanval, whom he did not
remember, and for whom no one put in a good word. (p.73) Immediately we see

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Essay
It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and
golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their
sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into
brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet.
In Washington Irving The Legend of sleepy Hollow, setting, characterization, and Irony affect the
protagonist in several ways. The night setting is important because it further emphasizes the
superstitious theme. A somnolent, illusory effect appears to be dangling around the surrounding, and
to spread through the air (Irving). This passage shows, for instance, some of the villagers believe that
the town was bewitched by a German doctor. The villagers frequently hear voices, strange music and
see strange sights. Not to mention the hessian trooper ghost that haunts the valleys. It is said that
during the Revolutionary war his head was carried away by a cannon ball and that he rides on a haunt
for his head. These superstitions tales of the town make the villagers afraid of the headless horseman.
All things considered, most of the villagers were terrified of the many supernatural stories they heard
and also terror stuck about the headless horseman.
The time period in which the story took place is important because of the war. From the lifeless
inactivity of the atmosphere, and the unusual persona of its residents who are ancestors

Fashion Is A Fashion For Last 75years
Fashion is a manner and style especially clothes, shoes, makeup and hairstyle. When I came from my
home country, I have not much knowledge about fashion, and even do not know more about fashion
brand. I was learning from technology, school and start follows American fashion. In eighteen century,
people were also very fashionable as we are mostly seeing in the old films and pictures. The fashion
was started from Europe and England because on that time Kings and Queens were fashionable and
spends money on luxury items. The Queen Elizabeth has famous because of fashion and style, because
she is wearing bright dresses, necklace etc. The brands we are use now a day s also established in
many years back like Coach is in the fashion for last 75years. Now a day s fashion is change every
spring, summer and fall because people are more creative to do something different. Social media is
the main source to develop the latest fashion between new generations. People are follows facebook,
twitter, instagram because celebrities, models, and companies share their fashion with public. In the
twenty century people have jobs and money that s why they start spending on technology, and fashion,
on the other side there are competition in the fashion industry so it s difficult to compete it.
Women and Men both were fashionable from the thirties but women were more fashionable as
compare to men. Women s fashion during the early to mid thirties reflected the American culture and

Critique the Power of Organizations from Weberian and...
Q 1. Critique the power of organizations from Weberian and Goffmanesque perspectives in the
Stanford Prison This document briefly reviews and critiques the ideas of Weber and Goffman in
applying them to the Standard Prison Experiment. Weber identified the significance of bureaucracy
within organizations. Within the bureaucratic organization there is a stratification of hierarchy where
the legal legitimate authority is invested in individuals who exercise command on the basis of rules
and not on the basis of personal authority (Morrison, 2006). Legitimate authority within a bureaucratic
organization aims to remove the subjectivity and unpredictability of human action thus decisions are
made and behaviours implemented in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The admission process into an institution is routinely followed by guidelines and procedures
(Morrison, 2006) the guards give orders and the prisoners follow them, however the guards mocked
the prisoners through this process thus, removes impersonal authority. Clearly Weber s theory of a
rational system incorporating impersonal authority is not sufficient to explain the events of Stanford
Prison. Goffman, Power and Authority A correlation can be made between Goffman s theory on
mortification of the self when entering some institutions, and the prisoners entering Stanford Prison.
Goffman identifies; names and titles are lost, institutional uniforms replace personal clothing, personal
space is lost or disregarded, personal information discussed inappropriately and constant humiliation
(1959 in Smith). The men entering Stanford Prison were fingerprinted, photographed, assigned a
number, stripped naked and de loused, personal items removed and issued with prison clothing, while
the men s head were not shaved they had to wear a socking to illustrate shaved head (Zimbardo,
2009). This was the result of a deliberate policy from the Superintendent to remove any trace of
individual identity (Zimbardo, 2009). Thus the power of the organization to remove the prisoner s

The Federalist Paper By James Madison
The Federalist Papers were 85 essays that were published in 1787 and 1788. They were anonymous
and always signed by Publius. Publius was actually 3 men, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and
John Jay. They wrote the papers to convince the people of New York to vote to ratify the Constitution.
These essays were published in newspapers throughout the state of New York. Federalist 10 was
written by James Madison and was titled The Utility of the Union as a Safeguard Against Domestic
Faction and Insurrection (continued). This essay was a continuation of Federalist 9. Federalists like
James Madison and Alexander Hamilton thought that if the states continued to maintain complete
control, each state would become its own nation, which would leave the U.S. bankrupt. They believe
that a strong central government would have the ability to stop this from occurring. Factions were
James Madison s worst fear. Madison believed that factions were what were going to keep states
divided and more likely to turn to individual nations. James Madison s opinions are correct. As
defined by Madison, a faction is a group of people, whether a majority or minority, who come together
by some common impulse of passion, or of interest adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the
permanent and aggregate interests of the community. Not all political groups are factions, though most
are. While they are rare, there are political groups out there that are made up of people with all

Johnston Reflection
So, if i would have stayed at johnston i know i would not have graduated. When i first started at metro
i hated it. I hated everyone. I have a people problem and that is why i didn t do so good at johnston.
The first week i was here it was pretty rough. I didn t really get along with any of the other students
and at the time i really didn t want to get to know anyone because at the time i didn t like people. Later
on, i started to act different toward everybody. I actually started to talk and be social with the teachers
and the students. Everyday when i would come to school everybody was always so happy and excited
to see me. Whenever i would need help there was always someone to help me, no matter what. I
actually really enjoyed going to metro for as long as i did. Johnston really did suck. Like in all
honesty, johnston was not for me. Metro has done a lot for me in the past 3 years. They have acted like
a family to me and have cared about me when i was in dark spots of my life. All the teachers have
treated me like i was their own child. Everyone says there here at metro for a reason and that is not a
lie. Metro takes so many different kinds of kids that there is a very diverse group of us. Metro is a
school that needs more attention, i don t mean in a bad way either. This is a fantastic place ... Show

Happe was my favorite teacher honestly. His class is seriously so fun and so laid back that it s just so
hard not to go in there and get lost in the conversations we have. He has been there for me through a
lot and it really means a lot to me to have a teacher that will do anything for me. When i m in his
class, you can literally talk about anything you want and he will talk to you about it. It is so easy going
that it s gonna really suck to not be able to go back there and talk about whatever i need or want to talk
about. I don t have much to say about math and history because i finished those awhile ago. School

Rhodes Must Fall Essay
Introduction
This essay will attempt to give a response of the Rhodes Must Fall writings. It is clear that the rising
of movements like Rhodes Must Fall, has been a result of a wave of philosophies of Fanon and Biko
who share a highly similar pedigree in their interests in the philosophical psychology of consciousness
and desire for a decolonising of the mind (). Their ideologies have the interest of young South
Africans. The essay will be done by looking into how the movement wants the university to be
decolonised, the statue of Rhodes, alienation the students are experiencing, curriculum change, the
university s lack of cultural space and representation of blacks, racism in the university and
social/systematic exclusion of black students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The university must take up the challenge. Even though we are in 21 years of democracy, the
insurgency of movements like Rhodes Must Fall shows the frustration of the pace of transformation
and change in institution. The buildings around the UCT campus must renamed and represent the
diverse heritage of South Africa. With the changes they will strengthen student connection to human
rights respect democracy and help to avoid and put to stop violent action like when politics student

The National Automotive Museum Preserves And Maintains...
Founded in 1989, the National Automotive Museum preserves and maintains more than two hundred
cars for the public to admire. Projects that go into working with the museum include archiving both
old and new knowledge of cars, filing research away on cars sold after Harrah s death for new owners,
digitizing new information using the computer system called PastPerfect, and transcribing the journal
of a man to the computer for record keeping. All of these tasks meant learning new skills in
maintaining a museum s behind the scene collection as well as researching the collection s history.
These projects help the museum function as well as provide a source of income so that the museum
can stay open. The first project was archiving in the museum library to learn organizational skills. The
automotive museum stores journals, magazines, books, and media such as film all in a library in the
back of the museum. The articles and journals within this library date back to the early car magazines
in the early twentieth century when the car was a novel machine, and goes all the way up to the most
recent editions that feature electric cars from Tesla. The project was to make sure everything went
back where it belonged in the system. Proper storage of the books ensures that the library stays
organized for research on the cars. Another aspect of that project is to add new works to the library. As
previously stated, the library is in possession of magazines and books from contemporary times

Compare And Contrast George And Thomas Nast
The late 1800s and early 1900s was a time of industrial corruption that controlled the government
leaving many workers to fend for themselves. The progressive movement was a time of effective
change and political reform. As large corporations dominated the economy and social acceptance was
evolving, both Thomas Nast and Robert La Follette fought for economic stabilization, and equal
rights. Uncontrollable businesses not only dominated the economy, but the United States as well. As
rapid industrialization was taking over the U.S, numerous amounts of businesses with vast amounts of
needed resources dictated the economy. Farming began to decline as new technology controlled how
the food was made. The tremendous urban growth that sparked new ideas would soon change the
country. The Gilded Age caused politicians to take bribes in exchange for their support in the ... Show

The Gilded Age and the first years of the twentieth century were a time of great social change and
economic growth in the United States. Roughly spanning the years between Reconstruction and the
dawn of the new century, the Gilded Age saw rapid industrialization, urbanization, the construction of
great transcontinental railroads, innovations in science and technology, and the rise of big business.
Even though Thomas Nast was against the Gilded Age, Robert La Folette is more of a hero because he
physically made a change that had an impact on the country. Looking Back 25 Years, State Points to a
Great Glory That Grew from a Bitter Battle. This shows the influence Robert La Follette, because it
passes a law that provides cash benefits and medical care for injured or ill workers as a direct result of
their job. Due to the unhealthy buildings and dangerous equipment, La Follette believed that workers
should be ensured if anything were to happen to

The novel revolves around a social construction and deconstruction of private life and the effects they have on the lives of individuals and corporate firms. Eggers unfold a story of a young lady, Mae, at a top technology firm, which is headed by three giants he describes as Three Wise Men . The technology firm, which he calls The Circle, is in the business of making life transparent through its sophisticated technological innovations. She is a public robot, her expectations vested in the public reward. No one really cares about Mae, what remains with her outside The Circle is her family and her father s multiple sclerosis. After her father s distrust on the SeeChange, she is distressed about the public knowing about the distrust and about her ex, Mercer. That s all the public can offer at times, distrust. • 3. How To Make Awtys Essay From the earliest days of family travel, four small words have resonated through the car are we there yet?! If you listen closely you can almost hear those words wafting from the back seat of a Model T. While cars have changed, family travel and that famous phrase have not. So, how do you stop the Are We There Yets (known as the awtys in our family)? Most cases of the awtys are caused by three factors: the need to move around, boredom, and desire for parental interaction. Here are some tips to help combat this famous method of vacation torture. Mixing the tips to suit your family will work the best! Children have their limitations. Even the best travelers will need to stretch their legs. Most children can realistically handle about ... Use an online translator program to find out how to say Are We There Yet in three or four other languages. Write the translations on small notecards (one for each child). Don t forget to put some easy pronunciation tips next to the translation. Let the kids know they can each ask awty in each of the languages once per trip so they have to use them sparingly. There is really something so sweet about hearing your four year old ask Are We There Yet in Japanese! If you don t mind hearing awty a few times along the way, try this game. Write each of the four words on a separate notecard. Make a set of cards for each child. Each time one of the children asks awty they have to give you one of their cards. One of the rising challenges in our rapidly growing world is the destruction of rainforests and how it is slowly ruining the world that we live in. Deforestation has a lot of destructive impacts on the environment that is surrounding us, one of the most important being its effect on the climate. The fast rise in the world s population, calling for high demand of resources, is only hastening the effects of deforestation, which can hopefully be put an end to through the enforcement of a handful of simple, key, and sustainable solutions. Everyone has been told to do this, but I don t think everyone sees the importance of recycling. Sure, a lot of people recycle, but there are a lot that don t. Recycling has many benefits, but the major benefit is less destruction of forests. Again, the rising population calls for many products that are made from trees, mainly paper. Everybody in the world uses paper, whether it be in the form of books, pencils, toilet paper, towels, and even shoes. All these paper products, and more, are a direct result of deforestation, for the trees are taken down and turned into these products. Say you have a whole box of school papers that you don t need anymore, and you want to throw them in the trash. Instead of throwing it in the trash, you should recycle it. When you recycle it, the paper goes to a factory, which adds other products to it, melts it down, and molds it into other products. This process can eventually rule out the need for deforestation, reducing the effects of climate change. Clearly, recycling is one of the many sustainable solutions that can hopefully stop ... It is essential to realize that 20 Africans came to America in 1619, records are not clear if they were slaves or indentured servants. It was until 1640 when the first African in Jamestown Virginia was declared a slave. The Court ordered that the slave had to serve his master for the rest of his life. The slaves made to work long hours and numerous slaves endured inhuman treatment and underwent severe injuries. American citizens in the South challenged a lengthy campaign to seek to continue to be permitted to own slaves but through Lincoln and abolitionist slave owning was ultimately banished. The Japanese government looked upon this disturbance of the poor as subversive, and outlawed tattoos in 1870. This is when the symbolism of tattoos in Japanese culture shifted. They had gone from a representation of splendor, to one associated with Japanese crime. As a result, tattooists were forced to retreat into the background of Japanese society. Luckily for them, the Japanese gangster class in Japan known as the Ikuza, embraced this subculture with open arms. The elaborately designed tattoos of the Ikuza depicted above, represented character traits the wearer desired to emulate. A lion represented courage, while a carp was worn to emulate strength and perseverance. Because the designs required long periods of pain, the act itself was looked upon as a show of allegiance to the wearer s personal beliefs. J.D.B Stillman, aboard the ship Plymouth, November 1850 (Stewart, 1995) There is no doubt that humans have always been intrigued with the majestic beauty of the large giants found in all of the world s oceans. Whales and people have had a long history together, marked by many turns of events. Long ago, native tribes, from many places in the world, depended largely on whales for protein in their diets. The Change in Whaling What exactly happened in the whaling industry that had such a detrimental effect on the whale populations? In the nineteenth century, commercial whalers began using whole fleets to hunt whales, with each ship given a specific role. The largest ship, found at the center of the fleet, was the factory ship. At the heart of these ships are many tanks. Christopher Ash worked as chief chemist on the factory ship Balaena, and in his book Whaler s Eye, comments on the massive tanks found in these ships. Balaena really is a tanker, and almost all of her hull...is subdivided into thirty six tanks. It is rather like an egg crate with nine rows, each of four tanks extending across the ship, and each tank able to take some five hundred tons of fuel or Diesel oil, which will be replaced after cleaning by whale or sperm oil, or perhaps meat meal; sometimes they must be filled with sea water as ballast. These tanks are impressively large, being well over thirty feet deep; so that when standing on the bottom and looking up to the one small square of light far above, it is difficult to believe that we can produce enough oil to fill the whole of that volume in twenty hours (Ash, 1962, p.19). The story takes place when Fulghum, the author, is left to babysit eighty children seven to ten years old, in the church social hall. He decides to organize a game called Giants, Wizards, and Dwarfs to keep the kids entertained and involve some of their intellectual decision making skills. As the game reached its climax, Fulghum yelled at the children to decide whether they were a giant, wizard, or dwarf. While the groups frenzied and consulted, a little girl emerged from the crowd and asked Fulghum, Where do the Mermaids stand? In shock of the girl s response, Fulghum took a long pause to think and in the end he decided that the Mermaids stands next to the king, which was Fulghum himself. The meaning of this quote is that there will be someone, somewhere, who doesn t accept the norms and is defined by their category. The mermaid the author refers to in the quote would be the little girl and how she was that one person who wasn t afraid to be different. To add on, those who are different, tend to stand out among the others. I chose to analyze this quote because I kind of relate to the girl in the quote. They interact with each other through competition and various relationships. In the Waitakere Ranges, there are several habitats organisms live in: Forests and shrub lands Freshwater wetlands, lakes and streams Coastal wetlands, dunes, and estuarine tidal flats and channels Urban area The populations of each habitat vary, as they would be dependent on abiotic factors such as: light, temperature, water and soil. Within communities, organisms compete for limited resources (food, space, mates, shelter). 613 of our native species (plants, birds, fish), compete with 240 introduced plant species, 19 introduced bird species, 9 introduced mammals and 2 amphibians. • 24. Copper Iodide Synthesis Lab Report Before the synthesis of the Copper Iodine Compound, the identities provided (CuNO3)2 and Nal weighed 1.65 g and 4.7 g, respectively. After being weighed, the (CuNO3)2 exhibited a blue color, while the Nal, through observation, was a white color. However, when both identities were combined, the product turned into a brown and red rocky material. Once 20 mL of deionized water was added, the product quickly turned pale pink paste. After the solution was repeatedly washed with a total of an additional 100 mL of deionized water, the product was powdery and pink with small grains, and was left to air dry. Once the product was air dried, it was observed to be a pale pink color, while the filter paper was stiff as the product was hard and dry. Therefore, the solid was scraped off onto a recrystallizing dish. However, the mass of an empty recrystallizing dish needed to be recorded in order to compare how much of the synthesized copper iodide was obtained. Within this case, the empty recrystallizing dish used weighed 32.01 g, the product on the empty dish weighed 1.03 g, having a total weight of 33.04 g. Subsequently, two porcelain crucibles were used, weighed, and heated for about 10 minutes and then placed into a desiccator to cool. Genetic Algorithms And Its Applications Of Cyber Security Genetic Algorithms and its Applications to Cyber Security Paper By Sameera Chalamalasetty Guided By Dr. Mario A Garcia Abstract: Genetic algorithms (GAs) were initially proposed by John Holland, whose thoughts were connected and developed by Goldberg. GAs are a heuristic pursuit procedure in view of the standards of the Darwinian thought of survival of the fittest and characteristic genetics. Holland s work was basically an endeavor to numerically comprehend the versatile procedures of nature, however the general accentuation of GA examination from that point forward has been in discovering applications, numerous in the field of combinatorial enhancement. Genetic algorithms have been utilized as a part of science and engineering as versatile algorithms for tackling functional issues and as computational models of common developmental frameworks. In the latest couple of decades, this procedure with advancement of cutting edge development has accomplished something new. Introduction: Li [3] describes genetic algorithm as a family of computational models based on evolution and natural selection. Bobor [4] has defined a genetic algorithm as a programming technique, which mimics biological evolution as a problem solving approach. An early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Financial System Inquiry ( Fsi ) The Financial System Inquiry (FSI) acts as a model for achieving a resilient and efficient financial system, contributing to Australia s economic growth. The Capital requirements implemented according to the FSI has potential impacts on Australian banking system: 1. Increase in borrowing cost/ interest rate The recommendation that banks in Australia are required to hold additional capital would lead to an increase in the borrowing costs. Furthermore, the requirement of capital held in banks must be of a higher quality makes capital more expensive (FSI 2013). A 1% point increase in capital requirements is estimated to raise average interest on loan by less than 10 basis points, assuming that full cost is passed on to consumers (Mitchell 2013). In relation to that, Australia banks have to come up with repricing strategies to pass on the cost to consumers. However, the actual change in lending interest rates would be lower in a competitive market because RBA has can lower the cash rates in critical conditions. An increase in interest rate would lower real GDP by less than 0.1% points (Mitchell 2013). 2. Foregone opportunity cost The higher capital requirements would imply that banks need to use more capital funding and place larger constraints on banks sources and usage of funding (The banking system 2013). This would limit or forego banks opportunity to finance new projects (FSI 2013). 3. Reduced risk premium On the bright side, the tighter capital regulations would reduce ... I really enjoy watching this movie because of the overall story, the characters, and the actors that were cast in this production. The movie, American Hustle, is a comedy drama that is loosely based on the real life FBI sting, called ABSCAM, that took place in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s. My favorites were Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. The transformation that Bale put himself through in order to play this role was incredible. He has a history of gaining and losing weight for various roles but I had never actually seen this for myself until I watched this movie. Bale gained 43 pounds, shaved his head to produce a realistic comb over, and changed his posture by slouching which shortened his height by 3 inches and resulted in a herniated disc. Jennifer Lawrence was very good in this film. I love how she can immerse herself into any character, bring them to life, and still have pieces of her own personality shine through. Even though Robert De Niro s part in this movie was practically nonexistent, he still made a lasting impression on me. He played the part of a legendary mob boss and casino owner named Victor Tellegio. I felt this character fit De Niro so well because he has this serious demeanor and at times can look very intimidating. In his scene, De Niro is sitting down at a pool table with the sheikh and a couple of other mob bosses as well as Bradley Coopers character, and he attempts to talk to the sheikh in English. Great Anthropocene Essay A Great Anthropocene or a Utopia An Eco modernist manifesto states that we need a good Anthropocene, which demands that humans use their growing social, economic, and technological powers to make life better for people, stabilize the climate, and protect the natural world (Page 7). In order to protect the natural world, we should stay away from nature and give more land back to the nature world, instead of letting human society goes along with nature in harmony. However, I doubt that would happen, though I believe it could. First, it s not easy to access these new technologies. Currently, they are not as cheap as the author described. Second, when the new technologies fail, they might bring more significant disaster to the nature world. To address this problem, they created a near infrared 2 deoxyglucose probe (2DG IR) and used two photon microscopy to assess whether it is neurons or astrocytes which are taking up more glucose during neuronal activation. If the ANLS hypothesis is correct, astrocytes should be observed taking up more glucose. Whereas, if the parsimonious hypothesis is correct, glucose uptake should be greater in neurons. First, they assessed their 2DG IR probe by comparing it to 14C glucose and 14C 2 deoxyglucose (14C 2DG) uptake in neurons and astrocytes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anaesthesia decreased glucose uptake in neurons more so than astrocytes. Next, Lundgaard et al. Local field potentials were measured in the contralateral barrel cortex during whisker stimulation to ensure neurons were activated; results confirmed neuronal activation occurred. Further, 2DG IR uptake was higher in contralateral barrel cortex, compared to ipsilateral. Specifically, uptake in contralateral neurons was significantly increased, whereas, astrocytic uptake was not statistically significant between the two hemispheres. Therefore, stimulation of the sensory system caused activated neurons to take up glucose to a greater extent than surrounding astrocytes. Finally, Lundgaard et al. • 36. Home Rule As A Force Of Unity And Division Of Irish... Discuss Home Rule as a force of unity and division in Irish political life during the period 1886 to 1921. The home rule question played a prominent part in Irish history for over 40 years. Home Rule, the ideology that a country under a colony would rule itself from home, caused bitter political and social divisions throughout Ireland. Whilst the division between nationalists and unionist became rife, Home Rule unified many that were willing to fight for Ireland s cause. In Ulster there was a sectarian rivalry between Protestants and Catholics. The secret ballot act of 1872 and the Reform act of 1884 reduced the political power of protestant and they felt threatened. From 1885 to 1886, Home Rule became a greater possibility for Ireland, unionists and Protestants became more restless and agitated. Divisions emerged in politics and in 1885 the Irish Loyal and Patriotic Union were set up to fight Home Rule. After the general election of 1885 divisions were further polarised between unionists and nationalists. The electorate was divided into the Home Rulers and the unionists. The Orange Order was revived and it unified Protestants of all classes against Home Rule. Many Protestants became a member of the Ulster Loyalist and Anti Repeal Union which was established in 1886. (p.46) The lady was indeed alone, isolated from all except for her servant and the lord, upon his command. No one, man or woman, could have gained access to this spot, or escaped from this walled enclosure. (p.46) Thus far Guigemar s isolation as well as the lady s isolation may be seen as vehicles for their introduction to one another. In the lai of Guigemar we are presented with isolation as a physical removal from others. Whether it be Guigemar alone in the woods or the lady alone in her prison home, the isolation is always physical and forced, even if it be a force of magic such as the curse of the magical animal on Guigemar which draws him to the magic ship. In the case of Lanval this is often times not the case. With Lanval we often see isolation as a more psychological event. In the story s opening we see Lanval as being isolated from the very court and king he serves. He apportioned wives and lands to all, save to one who had served him: this was Lanval, whom he did not remember, and for whom no one put in a good word. (p.73) Immediately we see ... • 38. Multiple Sclerosis Case Study Summary Background Daclizumab was previously on the market as brand name Zenapax. It was indicated for intravenous use for acute organ rejection in kidney transplant patients. Zenapax was taken off the market in 2009 by the manufacturer due to decreased demand for the product and not because of an issue with safety.1 A new formulation, daclizumab high yield process (HYP) brand name Zinbrynta, has been introduced. Daclizumab HYP has the indication for adults with relapsing multiple sclerosis and is administered subcutaneously.2 Previous studies have shown daclizumab HYP to be effective as monotherapy in patients with multiple sclerosis within a treatment period of one year.3 Currently, interferon beta 1a, brand name Avonex, is an approved therapy for relapsing multiple sclerosis.4 The objective of this trial was to compare the effects of daclizumab HYP with the effects of interferon beta 1a in relapsing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors made it clear that the purpose of the trial was to compare the efficacy between two treatments (daclizumab HYP and interferon beta 1a). Although the relevance of the study was clearly stated, it would have been helpful if the article mentioned that daclizumab was previously on the market with a different indication. The authors may have felt this information was not necessary to include. However, fully educating and preparing readers with information on the medications being discussed may be beneficial. The results of the study achieved the objectives of the research because daclizumab HYP was found to be superior to interferon beta 1a in terms of the primary outcome. On the other hand, the authors were probably not expecting the daclizumab HYP patients to have a higher incidence of certain adverse events. The fact that the authors included this information in the trial allows the providers and patients the information to make a conscious decision in terms of risk versus benefit depending on the ... On May 5, 1885 his father died of tuberculosis leaving 8 dollars to the family s name at the age of eleven. • 40. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow Essay It was, as I have said, a fine autumnal day; the sky was clear and serene, and nature wore that rich and golden livery which we always associate with the idea of abundance. The forests had put on their sober brown and yellow, while some trees of the tenderer kind had been nipped by the frosts into brilliant dyes of orange, purple, and scarlet. In Washington Irving The Legend of sleepy Hollow, setting, characterization, and Irony affect the protagonist in several ways. The night setting is important because it further emphasizes the superstitious theme. A somnolent, illusory effect appears to be dangling around the surrounding, and to spread through the air (Irving). This passage shows, for instance, some of the villagers believe that the town was bewitched by a German doctor. The villagers frequently hear voices, strange music and see strange sights. Not to mention the hessian trooper ghost that haunts the valleys. It is said that during the Revolutionary war his head was carried away by a cannon ball and that he rides on a haunt for his head. These superstitions tales of the town make the villagers afraid of the headless horseman. All things considered, most of the villagers were terrified of the many supernatural stories they heard and also terror stuck about the headless horseman. The time period in which the story took place is important because of the war. From the lifeless inactivity of the atmosphere, and the unusual persona of its residents who are ancestors ... • 42. Critique the Power of Organizations from Weberian and... Q 1. Critique the power of organizations from Weberian and Goffmanesque perspectives in the Stanford Prison This document briefly reviews and critiques the ideas of Weber and Goffman in applying them to the Standard Prison Experiment. Weber identified the significance of bureaucracy within organizations. Within the bureaucratic organization there is a stratification of hierarchy where the legal legitimate authority is invested in individuals who exercise command on the basis of rules and not on the basis of personal authority (Morrison, 2006). Legitimate authority within a bureaucratic organization aims to remove the subjectivity and unpredictability of human action thus decisions are made and behaviours implemented in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The admission process into an institution is routinely followed by guidelines and procedures (Morrison, 2006) the guards give orders and the prisoners follow them, however the guards mocked the prisoners through this process thus, removes impersonal authority. Clearly Weber s theory of a rational system incorporating impersonal authority is not sufficient to explain the events of Stanford Prison. Goffman, Power and Authority A correlation can be made between Goffman s theory on mortification of the self when entering some institutions, and the prisoners entering Stanford Prison. Goffman identifies; names and titles are lost, institutional uniforms replace personal clothing, personal space is lost or disregarded, personal information discussed inappropriately and constant humiliation (1959 in Smith). The men entering Stanford Prison were fingerprinted, photographed, assigned a number, stripped naked and de loused, personal items removed and issued with prison clothing, while the men s head were not shaved they had to wear a socking to illustrate shaved head (Zimbardo, 2009). This was the result of a deliberate policy from the Superintendent to remove any trace of individual identity (Zimbardo, 2009). Thus the power of the organization to remove the prisoner s ... • 43. The Federalist Paper By James Madison The Federalist Papers were 85 essays that were published in 1787 and 1788. They were anonymous and always signed by Publius. Publius was actually 3 men, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay. They wrote the papers to convince the people of New York to vote to ratify the Constitution. These essays were published in newspapers throughout the state of New York. Federalist 10 was written by James Madison and was titled The Utility of the Union as a Safeguard Against Domestic Faction and Insurrection (continued). This essay was a continuation of Federalist 9. Federalists like James Madison and Alexander Hamilton thought that if the states continued to maintain complete control, each state would become its own nation, which would leave the U.S. bankrupt. They believe that a strong central government would have the ability to stop this from occurring. Factions were James Madison s worst fear. Madison believed that factions were what were going to keep states divided and more likely to turn to individual nations. James Madison s opinions are correct. As defined by Madison, a faction is a group of people, whether a majority or minority, who come together by some common impulse of passion, or of interest adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community. Not all political groups are factions, though most are. While they are rare, there are political groups out there that are made up of people with all completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have a people problem and that is why i didn t do so good at johnston. The first week i was here it was pretty rough. I didn t really get along with any of the other students and at the time i really didn t want to get to know anyone because at the time i didn t like people. Later on, i started to act different toward everybody. I actually started to talk and be social with the teachers and the students. Everyday when i would come to school everybody was always so happy and excited to see me. Whenever i would need help there was always someone to help me, no matter what. I actually really enjoyed going to metro for as long as i did. Johnston really did suck. Like in all honesty, johnston was not for me. Metro has done a lot for me in the past 3 years. They have acted like a family to me and have cared about me when i was in dark spots of my life. All the teachers have treated me like i was their own child. • 46. The National Automotive Museum Preserves And Maintains... Founded in 1989, the National Automotive Museum preserves and maintains more than two hundred cars for the public to admire. Projects that go into working with the museum include archiving both old and new knowledge of cars, filing research away on cars sold after Harrah s death for new owners, digitizing new information using the computer system called PastPerfect, and transcribing the journal of a man to the computer for record keeping. All of these tasks meant learning new skills in maintaining a museum s behind the scene collection as well as researching the collection s history. These projects help the museum function as well as provide a source of income so that the museum can stay open. The first project was archiving in the museum library to learn organizational skills. The automotive museum stores journals, magazines, books, and media such as film all in a library in the back of the museum. The articles and journals within this library date back to the early car magazines in the early twentieth century when the car was a novel machine, and goes all the way up to the most recent editions that feature electric cars from Tesla. The project was to make sure everything went back where it belonged in the system. Proper storage of the books ensures that the library stays organized for research on the cars. Another aspect of that project is to add new works to the library. As previously stated, the library is in possession of magazines and books from contemporary times ... The progressive movement was a time of effective change and political reform. As large corporations dominated the economy and social acceptance was evolving, both Thomas Nast and Robert La Follette fought for economic stabilization, and equal rights. Uncontrollable businesses not only dominated the economy, but the United States as well. As rapid industrialization was taking over the U.S, numerous amounts of businesses with vast amounts of needed resources dictated the economy. Even though Thomas Nast was against the Gilded Age, Robert La Folette is more of a hero because he physically made a change that had an impact on the country.
