GPU compute has leveraged discrete GPUs for a fairly limited set of academic and supercomputing system workloads until recently. With the increase in performance of integrated GPU inside an Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), introduction of Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) devices, and proliferation of programming tools, we are seeing GPU compute make its way into mainstream applications. In this presentation we cover GPU compute and HSA, focusing on the application of GPU compute in the Medical and Print Imaging segments. Examples of performance data are reviewed and the case is made for how GPU compute can deliver tangible benefits.

An excellent content which describe step by step how to install, monitor and benchmark PCIe/NVMe SSD (many trick not so simple). Another key learning: how to measure real I/O activities on a real workload? How many R/W IOPS, block size, throughtput, and finally what's the impact on SSD endurance and (real)life? A must read, and a huge thanks to my colleague Andrey Kudryavtsev.

VMmark virtualization performance of Micron Enterprise PCIe SSD-based SANPrincipled Technologies
The storage you use for your virtualization solution can be a significant factor in its performance and effectiveness. Two Dell PowerEdge R720 servers, paired with Micron Enterprise PCIe SSD-based SAN, ran 10 VMmark tiles for a total of 80 running VMs and achieved a score of 12.05@10 tiles, making it the top score running VMware ESXi 5.5 of the 32-core server configurations. For enterprises that need excellent virtualization performance, this makes Micron Enterprise PCIe SSD-based SAN a wise investment.

Realize 2.1X the performance with 20% less power with AMD EPYC processor-back...Principled Technologies
Three AMD EPYC processor-based two-processor solutions outshined comparable Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based solutions by handling more Redis workload transactions and requests while consuming less power
Conclusion
Performance and energy efficiency are significant factors in processor selection for servers running data-intensive workloads, such as Redis. We compared the Redis performance and energy consumption of a server cluster in three AMD EPYC two-processor configurations against that of a server cluster in two Intel Xeon Scalable two-processor configurations. In each of our three test scenarios, the server cluster backed by AMD EPYC processors outperformed the server cluster backed by Intel Xeon Scalable processors. In addition, one of the AMD EPYC processor-based clusters consumed 20 percent less power than its Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based counterpart. Combining these measurements gave us power efficiency metrics that demonstrate how valuable AMD EPYC processor-based servers could be—you could see better performance per watt with these AMD EPYC processor-based server clusters and potentially get more from your Redis or other data intensive applications and workloads while reducing data center power costs.

Optimized HPC/AI cloud with OpenStack acceleration service and composable har...Shuquan Huang
Today data scientist is turning to cloud for AI and HPC workloads. However, AI/HPC applications require high computational throughput where generic cloud resources would not suffice. There is a strong demand for OpenStack to support hardware accelerated devices in a dynamic model.
In this session, we will introduce OpenStack Acceleration Service – Cyborg, which provides a management framework for accelerator devices (e.g. FPGA, GPU, NVMe SSD). We will also discuss Rack Scale Design (RSD) technology and explain how physical hardware resources can be dynamically aggregated to meet the AI/HPC requirements. The ability to “compose on the fly” with workload-optimized hardware and accelerator devices through an API allow data center managers to manage these resources in an efficient automated manner.
We will also introduce an enhanced telemetry solution with Gnnochi, bandwidth discovery and smart scheduling, by leveraging RSD technology, for efficient workloads management in HPC/AI cloud.
Dell EMC VMAX All Flash and VMAX3 – powered by the universally trusted Hypermax/Enginuity operating system - continues to revolutionize the ways organizations are deploying, provisioning, protecting, and managing enterprise storage. "Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

The goal of this presentation is to capture all the industry-standard performance benchmarks based on AMD EPYC™ processors that cover a wide variety of segments, solutions, and application workloads representative of the data center market. Many of these metrics are used for initial sizing of planned deployments, provide a blueprint for solution designs, and provide insight into the cost per unit of performance.
Our partners, like AWS, ASUSTeK, Dell, GIGABYTE, H3C, HPE, Lenovo, ScaleMP, and Supermicro all are demonstrating their EPYC-based portfolio of products with leadership performance. With performance leadership, end customers can get the most out of their resource-constrained data centers to manage their operational expenses (admin, power/cooling, real estate, software licensing).
The next slide breaks down the high-level segments represented in the 170+ world records.
The four key segments AMD currently focuses on is data analytics, cloud-inspired infrastructure, HPC engineering/technical applications, and a variety of enterprise applications that are moving towards the Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI)/Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) Narnia for Enterprises.
With 179 total world record results published (including one tie within EPYC family and two overall world records), the AMD EPYC processor holds 178 net records as of 10/28/2020 thanks to our OxM partners who sell the no-compromise, 1-socket and leadership 2-socket servers.
How to read the following detail slides:
Each line represents a performance publication that has one or more world record claims
The performance wins can include:
Overall world record (trophy cup) – this result is better than any other published result on this benchmark based on the benchmarking body rules for fencing i.e. companies cannot compare TPC results across different scale factors (10TB vs. 30TB)
Overall price performance world record ($/performance represented by coins) – this result is the cheapest per unit of performance than any other published result on this benchmark (NOTE: the tied records count for only one record as it is shared)
Windows (logo) – this result run on a Windows Server OS is better than any other published result on this benchmark with the given socket count
Linux (logo) – this result run on a Linux OS is better than any other published result on this benchmark with the given socket count
Socket (chart) – this result is better than any other published result this benchmark with the given socket count
One result, much like a marathon winner, can represent more than one world record (akin to best overall time, best male or female, and best-in-age group)
