INTRODUCTION:
Allahabad town lies between the 250 28’ North latitude to 810 54’
East longitude, 98 MSL founded by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the year
1575 A.D. by the name of “Illahabas”.The city is located in alluvial plains
of river Ganga and Yamuna.
Situated in the Awadh Region of the Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad is
synonymous to Sangam. The city has been named so because it is situated
on the confluence of Ganges, Yamuna and mythical river Saraswati. A holy
fair called Kumbh of three types marks the place.The one that takes place
every year is called 'Magh Mela'. Whereas the ones celebrated every 6
years and 12 years are called Ardh-Kumbh and Maha Kumbh respectively.
PROJECT DESCRIBTION:
Allahabad Museum was founded
in 1931 and was formally
inaugurated in 1947 by India’s
first Prime Minister, Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru. This Museum
has, over the years acquired a
wide variety of exhibits from all
parts of the country. Allahabad
Museum has impressive collection
of Sunga, Gupta, late Gupta and early medieval period sculptural
masterpieces, discovered at different places around Allahabad.
Allahabad Museum depicts India’s evolution from a colony of the British
Empire to a modern nation state that it is today. It has got many rare
collections and manuscripts but it lacks proper infrastructure and people
rarely visit it in spite of the vast cultural history attached to it.
The museum is situated in Alfred Park which is the biggest landscaped park
in Allahabad and it serves as a picnic and jogging park for the people of
the city but the museum fails to attract visitors due to its bad
infrastructure.
To connect the museum building with the park and with the nearby
institutional buildings, main aim will be to make it more into a public
recreation space.

A modern and spectacular museum building can enhance a city’s
attractiveness, With this project I will try to make the museum play the role
of an urban landmark, and will make it serve as a symbol of cultural
identification.
The expansion of Allahabad Museum will fuse architecture with landscape
to create an experiential architecture that unfolds for visitors as it is
perceived through each individual’s movement through space and time.The
new addition will weaves the old building with the landscape in a fluid
dynamism based on a sensitive relationship to its context.

The site is located in Alfred park which serves as the biggest and one of the
best landscaped parks in the city.
Its situated in the centre of the city and is surrounded by many old and
good institutional buildings like the old and very famous Allahabad
university, St josephs college,st marys and mbbs college.there are many
children parks like sumitra nandan park just in front of the site and
bhradwaj park
The site is well connected to the all parts of the city as it lies at the centre.

Aim
The new addition and redevelopment should make the building more
attractive and inviting.
Design of a museum should become a center piece of an urbanization
project of the city. It should act as a cultural and urban landmark of the
city and to the surrounding regions.
The integration of art, landscape, and architecture should create a dynamic
whole As the museumgoer walks through the building, he or she should be
aware of the changing spaces, elongated and flowing into one another.
