The document discusses the issue of potholes on the roads at Savannah State University and proposes solutions. It provides background on how potholes form due to water erosion under the asphalt. It states that while the university has made some efforts to address the potholes, the road conditions have not significantly improved. Two students propose methods for properly repairing potholes, including cleaning them out, using the right cement mixture, and allowing it to cure correctly. They argue this will result in longer-lasting repairs and safer road conditions for drivers, pedestrians, and the overall campus appearance.

Almost all of us at Savannah State have grumbled about our University's seemingly endless slate of beautification projects and "campus improvements." Many of us, myself included, have sometimes wondered: What is the logic behind maintaining a beautiful campus? Can we justify spending $78 million on repaving the roads at a time when the financial burden of college has become prohibitive for many?

Trigonella foenum graecum. Callus was induced from hypocotyls
and cotyledons explants which were collected from the seedlings
of the mentioned plant. The explants were cultured in MS
medium supplemented with two auxins 2,4-D and NAA
separately with different concentrations (0.0 as control, 0.1, 0.5,
1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 mg/l). Concentration of kinetin (0.5 mg/l)
was used in combination with all concentrations of 2, 4-D and
NAA hormones. The callus was successfully induced in all
different concentrations of two mentioned auxins and
combinations of different concentrations of two auxins separately
with (0.5 mg/l) of kinetin. No callus formation was observed in
the absence of plant growth regulators. Hypocotyl explants of
T.foenum- graecum were much better in inducing callus than
cotyledons explants. Combinations of NAA+Kin and 2,4-D+Kin
were found to be more effective for inducing callus from
hypocotyls explants compared to 2,4-D and NAA alone, at the
same time callus induced by 2,4-D using cotyledons explants
gave the best results compared to the other hormone. Among the
different concentrations of auxin and combinations with kinetin

Objective: To assess the effect of a kinesitherapeutic
program of special exercises for treatment of pain intensity and
endurance of the extensor trunk muscles in patients with
chronic lumbalgy.
Methods: The study included 110 patients with chronic
lumbalgy, equally distributed in two treatment groups.
Participants in the experimental group performed the
recommended special exercises 3 times a week at home, while
those in the control group only followed the guidelines of a
physician. At the beginning of the study and 12 months later,
the pain intensity of all the participants was assessed by means
of Visual Analog Scale.
Results: In contrast to the participants in the control
group, those in the experimental group at the end of observation
were reported to experience a significant reduction in pain
intensity.
Conclusions: Treatment with specific exercises proved
more effective in terms of pain complaints in patients with
chronic lumbalgy.

blindness. Image processing techniques can reduce the work of
ophthalmologists and the tools used to detect Diabetic
Retinopathy Patients. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy is the
most advanced stage of diabetic retinopathy, and is classified by
the growth of new blood vessels. These blood vessels are
abnormal and fragile, and are susceptible to leaking blood and
fluid onto the retina, which can cause severe vision loss. First,
vessel-like patterns are segmented by using Ridge Strength
Measurement and Watershed lines. The second step is measuring
the vessel pattern obtained [5][10]. Many features that are
extracted from the blood vessels such as shape, position,
orientation, brightness, contrast and line density have been used
to quantitative patterns in retinal vasculature. Based on the seven
features extracted, the segment is classified as normal or
abnormal by using Support Vector Machine Classifier [6][8]. The
obtained accuracy may be sufficient to reduce the workload of an
ophthalmologist and to prioritize the patient grading queues.

Evaluation of Flexible Pavement Failures-A Case Study on Izki RoadIJAEMSJORNAL
Pavement is a multi-layer system that distributes the vehicular loads over a larger area. It helps to make them durable and able to withstand traffic and the environment. Pavement consists of three basic layers the first layer is Sub grade (Gravel) which is the foundation layer, the second layer is sub base (layer Assistant foundation) and the top layer is base (a layer of pavement) which consists of Bituminous Carpet + Bituminous Macadam. Cracking of pavement is a defect that appears in the top layer of the road. Pavement can be under compression and tension at the same time, but in different directions. While a tire compresses a pavement downward, it forms a deflection basin which causes the pavement to go into tension in both horizontal directions. If the pavement is not strong enough, the asphalt is stretched too far, which separates and a crack forms in the wheel track. A crack may also form between the wheel tracks. The maintenance of roads means protecting, restoration and strengthening of all elements of the road to maintain sustainability of the road. Road maintenance also includes additional work that is necessary in order to raise the level of performance and reach the best level of safety and comfort for the road users. Roads are high-cost investments and need constant maintenance so that these investments continue to perform as required. Therefore, care must be taken to maintain the roads in optimum maintenance and in a scientific manner. The aim of this Study is to identify the most common types of cracks and defects which occur in Izki road and suggest suitable option for maintenance. The objectives are to identify different types of cracks & defects, to find out the different reasons that cause defects and cracks in Izki road and to suggest suitable maintenance methods. A 2km length of the road was selected for the study. Survey was carried out and the reasons for cracking and other failures in pavement were studied. Finally, the required maintenance solution for each type of failures was identified and the best maintenance option was selected.

Nigeria has a matured flexible pavement road network owned by the public sector called the Federal Road. The 72km road networks from Ilesha – Akure are providing excellent service to road users for interstate movement. Due to movement of vehicles on the road, bitumen pavements tend to crack at some point of their lives under the combined action of traffic and the environment. These cracks are defects in the pavement surfacing which weaken the pavement and allow water to penetrate and cause potholes on the pavement. The results of a study conducted to facilitate the development of road pavement performance models that are appropriate for Nigeria and other similar developing countries, which could predict the rate of deterioration over their lifespan, have been presented. Comprehensive investigations were carried out on the expressway from the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) North Gate to NNPC Mega Station in Akure, Ondo State – apparently one of the busiest section along the road. The data collected are on traffic characteristics, Structural Number (pavement thickness), potholes and other distress types. Using these data and with the help of stepwise regression analysis, models were developed to predict the road pavement deterioration within the area of study and that could be useful for evaluating the failure susceptibility of the road. The calibrated model has 98.8% and 98.7% as R2 and adjusted R2 respectively. The model also has 8.8% (as average) difference between the predicted and actual rate of deterioration. The model can therefore, be used for planning maintenance programs of flexible pavement roads.
INVESTIGATING SURFACE DRAINAGE PROBLEM OF ROADS IN KHARTOUM STATEIAEME Publication
Poor drainage contributes immensely to pavement deterioration and subsequently causing increased annual repair expenditure. The investigation is conducted to provide extensive diagnosis to point out the causes of roads problems associated with poor surface drainage and provides possible mitigation measures to overcome the problem in Khartoum state. Some cases of existing roads in different regions in Khartoum state, suffered from severe distresses and damages due to poor drainage were studied. The method used to assess the existing drainage system of the studied roads is field survey. Based on field observations, the drainage structures suffered from blockage with dumping wastes, inadequate inlets and outlet channels, failure of side walls and bed erosion.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

Causes of Potholes by Mario Williams
Savannah State University gets many visitors per day and the count just keeps on
increasing. The only obstruction that’s keeping visitors from seeing the true beauty behind
Savannah State University is having a gruesome encounter with tire-busting pop-holes. Pot holes
create an unsafe environment for visitors, for the professors, and for the students daily. Nobody
wants to drive on a road where hazardous pots holes are present. It really makes you wonder has
the school ever put any real-serious efforts toward the maintenance of its roads. Year after year,
potholes always seem to find their way on our streets. The formation of these holes starts from
underneath the surface.
To give more clarity, “rainwater sinks through cracks in old or weakened asphalt. The
water is soaked up by the mixture of rock, gravel, and sand that supports the road. Vehicles
passing over the road force water through the soggy roadbed, eventually eroding parts of it.
Asphalt sinks into the eroded portions of the roadbed and eventually cracks under the continued
impact of vehicle tires. Chunks become loose, and potholes are formed (How Do Potholes
form).”
The fear of having a tire burst or worse hitting someone in efforts to avoid pot holes is
the most frequent talk-about topic discuss on school grounds. But sadly, school officials don’t
believe it’s serious enough. Nonetheless, officials have made some efforts to manage the spread
of pot holes but by the looks of the road, there really has not been any significant improvement.

Fixing pothole
Fixing pothole properly is the most important thing especially on a college campus. The main
reason why these potholes keep re-appearing because of the way the hole is being constructed
along with the cement type. To make this potholes last a long time you have to make sure the
shape of the hole is correct. That shape must resemble or be similar to an ice cream cone shape;
wider at the top than it is at the bottom. The difficulty level of fixing these on-going potholes is
not hard, so I do not know why they keep continue to be a problem after these years pasting. If
you want to repair a pothole, the best time to do it will be when the temperature is in the 50-65F
degree range. The proper cement/concrete type to use to fix pothole would be to mix cement and
aggregate mix together. This mixture is not only cost friendly, but it also get the job done. Once,
you have the dry cement aggregate mixed together make sure that you add water to the dry mix
4. All PapersCombined
because you must have the right consistency. The mix should not have too much water nor not
enough. Secondly, you have to clean the pothole that you are going to fix. Make sure that hole is
probably clean with no dirt or debris in the way before you begin to fill it up. You can use a
tamper or any other tool to clean the bottom of the hole. After you have gotten the hole clean,
sprinkle water on the surface. Third, you will pour the mixture into the pothole, bit do not fill it
up to the top. Only fill it up until it is an approximately two inches. Fourth, after you have
applied the two inches of cement mix into the hole, reapply the cement in two inch increments
until the pothole has been filled. Fifth and lastly, once the pothole has been filled up and
compacted apply a small crown over the repair area. Also, make sure protect the newly filled
holes it by using bricks painted white and place them around the pothole. The cement mix in the
hole as to be untouched for at least five to six hours and it takes twenty-four hours for the fill
material to harden. With these proper pothole repairing methods, these patches would last longer
and our campus roads will look more beautiful. It is a must that out campus have the proper road
ways for drivers to drive their cars on and it is very important that the student, facility, and
visitors of the campus have a nice and proper road to drive, if they do not that can cause plenty
of safety hazards.

Almost all of us at Savannah State have
grumbled
Almost all of us at Savannah State have grumbled about our University’s
seemingly endless slate of beautification projects and “campus improvements.” Many of
us, myself included, have sometimes wondered: What is the logic behind maintaining a
beautiful campus? Can we justify spending $78 million on repaving the roads at a time
when the financial burden of college has become prohibitive for many? Expenditures
like these can be quite difficult to reconcile with our sense of practicality.
The quality of the roads here at Savannah State University is a pressing issue.
Complaints have been filled and voices have been raised, but yet there hasn’t been any
improvements. Our school’s physical beauty is one of its most defining characteristics,
and questions about this beauty are thus questions about SSU itself. Whether one agrees
or not, the way our campus looks has a deep symbolic meaning.
Roads, and means of transport, make a crucial contribution to economic
development and growth and bring important social benefits. Poorly maintained roads
constrain mobility, significantly raise vehicle operating costs, increase accident rates
and their associated human and property costs. Without regular maintenance, roads can
rapidly fall into disrepair, preventing realization of the longer term impacts of road
improvements on development, such as increased growth in school enrollment.
Postponing road maintenance results in high direct and indirect costs. If road
defects are repaired promptly, the cost is usually modest. If defects are neglected, an
entire road section may fail completely, requiring full reconstruction at three times or
more the cost, on average, of maintenance costs.
