Introduction
The Kyoto Protocol of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change calls for the
industrialized countries listed in Annex I of the Convention to reduce their greenhouse gas
emissions to 1990 levels during the period of 2008 2012. The three flexible mechanisms of the
Kyoto Protocol allow Annex I countries to achieve part of their emission reduction commitments
abroad. The CDM allows an Annex I Party to implement a project that reduces greenhouse gas
emissions or, subject to constraints, removes greenhouse gases by carbon sequestration, or sinks, in
the territory of a non Annex I Party. The resulting certified emission reductions, known as CERs,
can then be used by the Annex I Party to help meet its emission reduction target. The host country
will benefit from the increased investment flows and from the transfer of clean technologies
instrumental to advance the sustainable development goals.
All countries wishing to participate in the CDM have to designate a National CDM Authority with
the task of evaluating and approving the projects. This authority is termed the
Designated National Authority (DNA). The main tasks to be carried out by the DNA for the
CDM are to provide written approval to the project participants that participation by the Host
country is voluntary and to

The Views of Rupert Brooke and Wil
My selected poems are The Soldier by Rupert Brooke and Dulce et
Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. Both war poems but conveying their different feelings and
presenting their views of war in radically different ways.
The poets have polarized views of war with Rupert Brooke writing his poem in a romanticized and
patriotic way referring to the possibility of death as a noble cause, for England the land that gave
him life.
This is at odds to how Wilfred Owen views the reality and horror of war. The poets choice of title
Dulce et Decorum est which translated means It is lovely and honourable to die for your country

The rest of the stanza continues to describe the men and the things they saw and sounds they heard:
Drunk with fatigue, deaf even to the hoots
Of Gas shells dropping softly behind
The use of the word Drunk is trying to emphasise that the soldier s were acting oblivious to the
happenings around them as if they weren t conscious and even deaf to the sounds of bombs.
In the second stanza the poet portrays an ecstasy of fumbling meaning he creates a huge panic of
all the men trying to apply their gas masks in time and illustrates the image of one soldier who
didn t get his mask on in time.
Gas! Gas! Quick boys An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets
This is the only quote of one of the men saying something and adds to the image of the rush they
were in. The adjective clumsy is used trying to describe how awkward the helmets were to put on,
and how much of a hassle they were to put on.
One of the men in this poem didn t get his mask on in time and was left by the rest in pain,
screaming and becoming weak:
But someone was still yelling out and stumbling
The word someone is used there because Owen is trying to show the man as being just another
soldier. He was nothing special in that he died for his country but no one remembers him as a hero,
just one of the thousands of men who died.
Owen then says how the someone was yelling out for help, for a soldier to come and rescue him

In the story, Nervous Conditions, Babamukuru is Tambu, the main character s, uncle. He is an
essential character because his reactions dictate how all the other character s act and behave. He is
the father of two of the characters and the husband to another character, but always asserts himself
in everyone s life, because of his duty to the immediate and extended family. He is the disciplinarian
and parental figure to many of the characters. He is tough and not loveable to his kids, he
especially makes known his disappointment in his daughter. He acts more as if he is running a

In this book, bias towards women is obvious. It is one of the main themes and is not hard to find.
Babmukuru at first suggests that Nhamo, Tambu s brother, be educated instead of Tambu
because he is a boy and she is a girl but after years at this school Nhamo has changed in a bad way
and rejects his family and learns a native language until eventually, he dies in a hospital away
from his family. Only then does Babmukuru offer Tambu to take the place of Nhamo and attend

by Jessie Pope convey two different views on World War I. Dulce et Decorum by Wilfred Owen, is
being told from a soldier s perspective during a poison gas attack and the gruesome events he sees
around him. The soldier realizes that war is a lie and the phrase Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori
is also a big lie, the poem s only purpose is to be aimed toward children or young men who

Musical Critique
One way I became more involved in university life by going to Oklahoma!. Not the state, but rather
the musical put on by the university. My suitemate Anna auditioned to be a part of it, and when she
got the part, she invited us all to watch opening night on November 13th.
I had been to a few musicals near my hometown, but they were rather lackluster and not very well
produced. This left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to amateur theatre performances, so I
hesitated in buying tickets for Oklahoma!. When I talked to my teaching assistant, she persuaded
me to give it a try because I might have a very different experience. I am glad that I went, because
the performance was a very vibrant show that meshed the excitement of college students with the
pioneer lifestyle of the great plains.
The musical was very lively, portraying life in the territory of Oklahoma, and focuses on several

I found Oklahoma! to be very entertaining and hilarious, but it also included some dark aspects,
such as date rape and suicide. The way the writers integrated these darker scenes kept the musical
from being too lighthearted, but still relevant and enjoyable to the audiences. Secondly, this
musical increased my appreciation for the arts. From my previous experiences in live theatres, I
was not expecting the actors to be so well rounded in singing, acting and dancing. Although I am

My mother occupies a special place in my heart that can never be replaced. She became pregnant
with me at the age of nineteen. Being a young, single mother, she had to overcome difficult

attempts in history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and
their sacrifices. However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group
being the people of the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several
generations of Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even
across the ocean to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the
Germans were experiencing many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of
the land had been destroyed. Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the
living conditions in Germany very difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in
a state of chaos. At that time, Germany was not together as a nation but was rather divided into
forty two different states. Unified Germany as we know it today did not come about until much
later, in about 1872. During this time minority religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical
Christians such as Baptists were not looked well upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists

Day 1: I have arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to help victims of the tragedies that have occurred
during the lethal fires spreading throughout the Great Smokey Mountains. The team and I have
brought water supplies to last until our last day, along with food and other snacks. So far, we have
not yet discovered what started these fires. Our team has decided to put non injured victims into a
hotel until finding them a new shelter. 14,000 residents were evacuated from Gatlinburg around

which is to say that our sexual instinct compels us toward reproduction and the preservation of life.
This parallels human sexualityto that of animals, an instinct that is genetically programmed into us
for the purpose of copulation. This is made to seem analogous to the instinct of hunger or thirst and
taking nourishment (15). In his book, Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality, Sigmund Freud
challenges these conventional views of the subject. While there are translational inconsistencies
with his use of the word instinct, the term drive actually substantiates his theory. He argues that
sexuality begins in childhood and can develop into a continuum of expressions that are shaped by
experiences at the level of the body, and to a lesser extent, experiences in society. These impulses

lemonade instead of water. The line wraps around the corner of the counter and outside and to
the right into the library hallway. Some folks look tired; possibly from a long weekend or maybe
a late night studying the previous day. Some are wide awake and upbeat as though they received a
good night s rest and has a fairly easy weekend.
The atmosphere is busy and rushed yet is oddly soothing. A smooth jazz song plays over the
speaker above. The smell of fresh brewed coffee and espresso beans fills the air. Baristas call out
names as orders are completed, Britany, Taylor, Drew, Melissa. The baristas are focused, not
wavering from their tasks as they fill orders; some complicated and some just a simple iced coffee.
The wait time is anywhere from fifteen to forty five minutes. Many people stand with inpatients;
tapping their feet and faces expressing discontent.
A table of girls sit in the back corner discussing the night before. One girl mentions not getting
enough sleep due to being up late studying for an exam she has at one o clock today. Another girl
talks about being really stressed out. She mentions an exam in the next couple days and two
papers due at the end of the week. The mention of something in her personal life, the main point
of stress, sweeps her lips but is said in a hushed tone so that only the people directly around her
