front. Looking at other albums, there is usually a
picture which takes up most, or all of the album with
the band name incorporated somewhere.
The typography on this album cover is limited as it is
simply a picture, but the name of the artist is
embroidered onto the nurse uniform, which relates
to the overall style of the album cover (an
unconventional nurse with tattoos, makeup and a
half undone top) because the whole album cover is
going against social norms.
As far as layout goes, this album cover is fairly simple.
There is nothing to it except the picture, even the
artist is enveloped into the picture itself. The album
cover speaks volumes, almost as if there is no need
for an album title because it should be assumed in a
sense.
The image itself is a high quality image with high
contrast. The makeup, lipstick and tattoos have been
picked out, so as to connote a certain look to the
viewer.

2. The name of the album is enema of the state. This is
obviously a play on words relating to the film enemy
of the state and the medial procedure – an enema.
This is why the nurse depicted is seductively pulling
on a glove, because the procedure itself is one that
requires a glove. The woman in the picture is a
pornography star, which also defies norms.

3. The back cover of the album features the band semi-naked
about to receive an injection from the star of the front cover.
The font featured on this album is minimal, the album is based
around the picture. The typography there is however is featured
at the top with all of the song titles. Pop-punk is thought of as
often coming with an almost DIY, anti-norms feel to it. The fact
that they deny conventions by making the artist and song tracks
small and in one corner is conventional to pop-punk. As for the
style of font, it is fairly plain with no capitalised letters. This is
linked to the fact that they prefer their band name without
capitals, all in lower case.
The colour of the image again looks like it has been edited. The
picture itself seems to have a higher contrast than usual with
colours looking more bright than they would normally. The
space where there are track names is the same colour as part of
their logo, with the other blue making up the other text at the
bottom of the album. This is very simplistic and conventional.

4. The back cover of this album is laid out so that the only text is
pictures at the top and at the bottom. This follows conventions
such as route of the eye. The focus however is the picture in the
centre.
The image itself features the nurse from the cover and the band
in a medical setting. The band are about to receive an injection.
The image is a low angle shot with the band higher up than the
nurse, but the nurse is depicted as being in control of the
situation. The uniform shows authority and the band have been,
at the will of the nurse, stripped down to semi-nakedness.
